There has been a known rodent problem since September that management has failed to properly address or communicate to tenants. Several of my belongings were damaged, and others exposed to mice excrement as pictured. The only response from management has been to place glue traps, which do nothing to resolve the larger issue. When I requested to move units because of the infestation, I was initially offered a new one at a higher rate, which I found shocking and poor customer service, and then moved to another unit on the same floor--only to find that one quickly infested as well. Despite acknowledging the rodent issue, management offered no meaningful assistance or compensation beyond insurance that didn't cover the extent of the damage. This experience was extremely disappointing. Avoid storing your items here, and if you are currently stored on the 3rd floor, I would strongly suggest checking your items for signs of rodents.

I hope they don't hatch. I wish they had checked the unit better before assigning it to me. I think it's really odd there was no sign of break other than them removing my lock nothing was broken on the door. But I was late with my payment so they broke my lock off and placed their own lock, then when I paid up they left an extra lock in the unit. It appeared they threw the replacement lock on the floor on top of all my things that had been thrown and scattered all over the floor from the break in. Honestly it feels like they were the ones that went in and took all my tools that I use to make a living. I think they were trying to recoup money since they thought I wasn't going to pay before they auctioned it off. It's really some bs and my instincts are strong about this one. I believe it was broken into last week. If yall had your unit on Victor street broken into on the third floor last week, I would definitely call to complain to the owner or the corporate office for public storage on Victor street in Austin tx. Especially if you were about to go into auction or were late on your payment. I think it's wrong that there are no cameras in the halls of this place and what's the point of have onsite property managers or anything if they aren't reporting the storages being broken into or calling the owners. Why do we have to go to our storage a month later to find everything missing. I really feel they either go in or have someone go in for them to steal. There was a suspicious dude outside when I went he was literally sitting in his truck just watching people drive in and out. He wasn't security or maintenance. I have half a mind to sit and watch for suspicious behavior because I paid to have peace of mind and my peace is gone along with 5,000.00 worth of my tools!!!!! I covered my tools in blankets that's why it feels it was an inside job. The main items missing were my tools mechanic tools and a back pack containing all my medical records and birth certificates of my children's. I have OCD and my storage was neatly organized so I know exactly what was taken. I read some where that public storage takes your legal docs or medical paperwork out of the storage before it goes to auction. I'm pretty sure it was an employee went took my valuable things along with the back pack so they could pass it off as normal procedure. They didn't count on me paying my bill before the cutt off date.

I responded with explaining that I am moving into an apartment, have no idea when I can come back to it and will most likely just send my belongings out of state. Public Storage Let Rats Destroy My Furniture - And Profited Off It…read more The short story is: If you love it enough to store it, go elsewhere - because when it gets destroyed by rats at this location, Public Storage DOES NOT CARE, and you won't get compensated for the damage beyond the $250 "vermin" cap on the insurance. Public Storage's absolute lack of concern for my property or health means I will never be doing business with them again - they got my money, and that's clearly all they care about. In Fall 2024 I rented unit 4022, a 10x30 that is in the very far back right corner of the property. I moved a lot of furniture in while dealing with a divorce. I came back to check on my things at the end of May 2025 and was horrified by the serious rat infestation I found in my unit. No pictures I can leave with this review will demonstrate the horrible overwhelming smell of rat excrement, and likely also dead rat. ALL of my upholstered furniture and a bed were covered in rat feces and urine. My couch had been ripped into and nested in. By the smell, there was likely also at least one dead rat in my couch. A particle board bookshelf had soaked up SO MUCH RAT URINE, the bottom fell apart. I let the young lady in the office (who was new) know the situation in my unit, but Public Storage did not offer to do anything about it AT ALL - so we rented a Uhaul and disposed of the furniture that was, at that point, a serious biohazard. I was given the email for Mr. Muder, the general manager of the property. I sent him an email and gave Public Storage a chance to make this damage right. It included a detailed spreadsheet with the replacement value of everything that was a biohazard, which came to nearly $4k. Mr. Muder called to follow up about this and let me know that he had spoken to upper management, and they "decline to follow through on this" and directed me to the insurance - which I paid for - and which only has a $250 cap for "vermin damage". Mr. Muder tried to explain that they have no control over what other tenants store, and that someone else likely had food in their unit that attracted the rats. NO SIR! This issue is not a little food in another unit - the volume of rat infestation is too severe for that. The two grocery stores on adjacent property, as well as dumpsters for fast food on the same block that I have witnessed rats climbing into are likely the cause. These are known factors that Public Storage should be used to dealing with. Clearly they're not. Public Storage had ONE JOB they were paid to do - keep my property safe. They failed. And they still got to keep my money, so it seems they absolutely do not care what their negligence has cost me. I would have been better off giving everything I had to Goodwill than storing it here, because at least I would have gotten to keep my rent money - but I lost that to them too.

I went to the Public Storage website (very user friendly, in my opinion) and reserved a unit for a start date of that same day. The contract process was user friendly and Sean walked me through every detail so I knew what I was signing. You need to have storage insurance, which they offer thru a 3rd party company. Not bad - $3,000 coverage for $11/month, and I didn't have to take the time to get other quotes, etc. This experience was the quickest, most painless process I've seen in a long time. Great booking systems and awesome customer service. Thank you Sean! Super impressed with being able to sign contract and start moving things into the unit on the same day.

The positives: -Unlimited Mileage and you just pay for one small fee (unless you don't want any additional add-ons. -The truck had a full tank of gas and I returned it with a full tank as a courtesy for the next person. -They had the option to keep the truck for three days and not just two which Uhaul had a big issue with. It's just not possible to return the truck within two days if I am moving from city to city since the city I moved to was 3 hours away from Austin. On the other hand, Penske provided the option to return the truck in the new city and not Austin. However, Uhaul had a problem with this and wanted me to return the truck in Austin by the second day. That sounds very stressful!! -The truck was very clean and spacious. I ended up getting the 12'Truck which allowed me to move out of a 698 sqft apartment. Negative: -There was only one worker at this location and he appeared to be burned out with his work. He was tired and did not speak much. He was a shell of a human. I say that Home Depot needs to make sure that there are more than one worker in the area so that he has someone else helping him out. However, when I returned it to the location in the newer city, the workers were much more lively and provided conversation. However, the truck was ready and he even drove the truck closer to the store so that it would be easy to access. I highly recommend Penske with your moving needs!
