Nathan provided a reasonable bid and our move was good. As with any large project there were unanticipated barriers however we were able to work through them. They did damage some drywall however they sent a tech out who did AN AMAZING JOB!!! I couldn't even tell where the damage was. Nathan offered the refund after the multiple disasters that happened during and after the move. Although he's offered a refund plenty of times, when I accept the offer he told me he will only do it if I take down review, as I "don't deserve one" because the "Better Business Bureau is breathing down his neck". Awesome move with this company! They were very reliable. The setup process was easy. I told them what and when I needed movers for and they got it scheduled and ready. The movers came as scheduled and busted their asses getting the job done. I completely miscalculated how much stuff I had and they were completely fine with it. This was basically a hoarder situation, Needless to say they had a unique and tough situation that lasted over 15 hours and into the next day. Couldn't recommend Big Beard Moves more highly! I received a response to my request for a quote within a few hours and Nathan was so friendly and helpful. He really has a can-do attitude. Even when I had to move my appointment from 9am to 5pm, he was flexible and worked with me. He let me know ahead of time that the movers might arrive any time between 5 and 10 because of my last minute change and they got there around 8:30pm. Ryan and his crew were so great! Not only did they move quickly but they had us cracking up the whole time. It really felt like we were being moved by family. My furniture is super heavy and there was a lot of it, so by the time they finished moving us from downtown Austin to Killeen (more than an hour away), they were pretty exhausted but they still moved quickly and had great attitudes. Despite it being such a late, laborious job, there was not a single scratch on anything and even my humongous mirror made it home in one piece with no damage. Nathan was amazing from start to finish with helping us navigate a very stressful and highly inconvenient issue with the apartment we were trying to move into. I never felt like the actual, physical move was a part of my stress because Nathan and I were in constant contact via Yelp messaging, text messaging and phone. And yet they showed up on time, with all the materials (and more) that I requested, and the final charges were exactly as agreed upon over that original call. Great, no, scratch that, AMAZING attitude of their entire team helped make an unpleasant/stressful occasion like moving (and mine was particularly difficult for personal reasons) pass quickly and smoothly. They went way above and beyond the call of duty (for example helping re-arrange a very tricky area rug/adjustable bed situation I had and which was totally outside of the scope of work of original contract). Very disappointed with this moving company. Reached out for a quote and received immediate communication. All questions were answered and contract for 3 guys to help us move down the street (3miles) with an estimated 4-6 hours to complete the move. We had the entire house packed and boxes were labeled with the room they needed to be move into at the new house. We even moved the boxes into the garage to help make it quicker and easier to load them onto the truck. The movers arrived at 9 AM but there were only two of them as one guy had cut his hand and wasn't able to make it. That's when it started going down hill. The truck that arrived was partially filled with furniture, the company also delivers. This caused the movers to have to make 2 trips to complete the move. The guys took multiple breaks throughout the day which caused our move to take over 12 hours!!! We get needing a few breaks but to go from an estimated 4-6 hours to over 12 is ridiculous. Throughout the day the supervisor would call on the phone asking if the guys could to do a furniture delivery while our move was still ongoing. Our pristine bedroom furniture and entertainment center were damaged during the move as well as our refrigerator. We actually had to help the movers prevent our fridge from falling off the dolly and crashing to the ground. No pads or dolly strap were being used. Had to call friends with pickup trucks to come over and help get stuff moved. We also had to load up our cars and make multiple runs to the new house to help move things along. This includes making my 7 months pregnant wife load and unload her car multiple times. We hired movers so she wouldn't have to do anything beyond ensuring the house was fully packed before the move. Once at the new house the boxes were left in the garage instead of in their intended rooms. As it was now 11:30PM and we didn't want to be charged the time it would take to move them, we decided to do it ourselves. When the invoice was received we brought up the above and were given a slight discount on the move. Sadly, this discount doesn't help to fix the damaged furniture but we decided to pay the invoice anyway. About a week later we are finally getting things set up in our guest room when we discovered an issue with our guest bed. During the move we told the guys that they could take our extra king mattress and the box frame if they knew someone that could use it. We planned to get rid of it anyway. One guy said he knew someone who could use it and would happily take it off our hands. While setting up our guest room we found they took the king box frame and the queen mattress we were keeping. We told them the mattress they were leaving was the king but they said they were confident it was the queen. Now we have a queen box frame and a king mattress for a queen sized bed frame. This prevents us from setting up our guest room for family to visit when our child is born in the next couple months. Once the invoice was paid the communication from the company stopped. So now we have to pay someone to haul away the king mattress plus pay to replace the queen mattress they took by mistake. This in addition to getting our damaged furniture fixed. Hopefully we don't find any other damaged items during our unpacking since moving and preparing for a baby is already stressful enough. If your debating whether or not to use this company for you move, we highly recommend looking for someone else. It would honestly be better for you to get a uhaul and pay family/friends to help move you. read more

I spoke with Nathan regarding an upcoming move. He was extremely friendly on the phone but was driving and unable to speak. He called later that evening and assured me, they would take care of everything. He stated he would stop by in 2 days to look at everything but wanted pictures to get an estimated price. He called back and gave a verbal estimate of $3000 and stated it would cover everything so I agreed to amount. Sunday came and went and heard no word. Monday afternoon, I spoke with owner again and was assured me that I would be taken care of and the move date was set. Tuesday, I received the contact amount of $3500. I questioned increased amount and was told that since move was Valentine's Day, he needed to hire someone else to do the moving or else upset his spouse. I didn't feel I should have to pay an additional amount of $500 than the originally agreed upon amount but felt I had no option since moving date was close. I sadly resolved to pay the additional amount. I was told because movers would be leaving Friday evening, would drive towards destination, then would be spending the night in motel, and would meet at new home next day, and added cost was to pay for extra guy and additional fees they needed. I was told they would take care of everything and not to worry. Day before move, having had no additional communication from company since email regarding higher rates, texted owner to find out the time movers would arrive. Received a group text message stating someone else would reach out to me. Later that evening, I received a call from Orlando. He asked if he could come by to take a look at things to be moved so that he could secure a rental truck. We set a time, which passed and no one showed up. Later, I received another call from Orlando asking to send pictures of everything. I told him I had already sent pictures of everything several days earlier to Nathan. He stated again, he need to see amount of furniture and boxes because he was renting a U-Haul. Another time was set to stop by. Each time he assured me that I would be taken care of and that I didn't need to worry. Shortly after making 2nd appt, Orlando called back to say he would not be coming by but should be ok in guessing size of truck. Orlando showed up with U-Haul truck on Friday evening around 730. The people I was told who would be doing the moving was Orlando and Shawn. When Orlando arrived, he instructed me that he had a friend that would be helping instead. Orlando instructed his friend what to pack and how to pack it. Soon after, a young lady showed up who I was told was the girlfriend of friend and sister of Orlando.. They all started packing up the truck and worked hard at moving boxes in and out of the apartment. I saved boxing materials for new television for move to ensure would not be broken and was concerned when I saw tv was wrapped in a blanket. I stated that I saved the boxing materials and watched as they turned tv upside down and shoved into the box, not taking legs off tv. They assured it would be ok. Fast forward, as the last items were being packed, I watched my brand new tv wedged between furniture towards back of truck. Once done, truck was closed, I wanted to place my lock on door which did not fit. I was told that van would be placed in a secure area and not to worry. I noticed a broken large custom picture frame before move and Orlando stated he was sorry it was broken but they would replace it for me. Moving day. I gave est time of arrival and informed Orlando eve before. Day of move, no communication from anyone until the evening when Orlando stated arrival in about 4 1/2 hrs. He arrived and without his partner. He said his helper skipped out on him so he drove by himself. He told me he hired someone in area to help and this person would be helping instead. Once truck was unloaded, they were anxious to leave. I asked if bed at least, could be set up which they did. They quickly left, leaving furniture with protective wrapping still on and unassembled. I asked what to do if I find broken items and was told let Nathan know. The following day, received many emails and messages regarding immediate payment. I told Nathan that I was finding many broken items and furniture broken, was told to contact Orlando. When I did that, Orlando stated Nathan was responsible. Orlando told me he would be calling me to make arrangements to settle everything and have received NO further communication since paying for services. I have busted pieces of furniture, broken glassware, and missing parts with no accountability from Big Beard Movers. read more

I would have rated 3 stars but Nathan (the owner) is great and made up for some of the issues during the move. The crew arrived 2.5 hours late. They were suppose to arrive between 3-4 but didn't get there til 630pm. I understand the personal reason as to which why they were late, however at the same time I wish someone would have communicated with me up front about the expectations of their arrival. Another issue during the move was that they didn't have their own tool box and had to borrow mine, which ended up being more of an issue when they couldn't initially figure out how to take off my front door to get the fridge through it because I didn't have the specific tool I don't think. It took them probably 30+ minutes to figure out how to take it off, whereas with another moving company who brought their own tools, It took them maybe 4 minutes. The positives about this move was that everyone was very friendly and they got the job done efficiently (minus the front door which I'll give them grace for). Moving is not an easy job, and I'm thankful that they moved pretty much everything for us. But be informed, there are some negative reviews of late arrivals and I'm definitely one of those customers who experienced it. We selected Big Beard movers to do our move based on price and Yelp reviews. They agreed to move us and we thought we were all set. They then dropped off the face of the earth. Phone calls, texts and emails were not returned. We could not get them to confirm the move or send us a signed contract. We had to go with other movers. They interview well and produce a competitive quote, but you can't count on them to show up. Seeing the owners response to my review, I have to reply. He did not reach out to us at all. Not my phone, my email or my wife's. They just disappeared when they decided they didn't want to honor the agreement. read more

My husband and I purchased new living room furniture from Texas Leather Interiors for $5,500. Due to the furniture coming from overseas, the lead time was 4 months. We were thrilled to finally have our furniture delivered but we're frustrated to find that 4 legs of our furniture needed to be switched to face the proper direction. Nathan was happy to send out his team to do the switch for us but as my husband and I started to do this on our own, we realized multiple bolts were either missing or stripped, screws were screwed in crooked and not straight. We didn't have any washers to place beneath the bolts that came from the manufacturer (likely thrown away by Nathan and his team), making it impossible to actually use our furniture given all of the legs were wobbly and unstable. We have now spent the entire weekend trying to purchase the manufacture's parts that should have come assembled properly when the furniture was delivered a few days ago. This company is either incompetent or lazy and we strongly encourage you to use another service who will properly take care and assemble your furniture. read more

Very poor communication, undisclosed fees, very late responses to confirmation requests. Booked about week in advance for 9AM move. Nathan called the day prior requesting to change move to now as he was overbooked. I suggested they move items into garage today and then move into house the next day as carpets were being cleaned and he said he would call his movers and sent them out. Nathan never called back and movers never showed and left me in limbo on when/if move was going to happen and did not answer phone. He responded that night confirming tomorrow morning 9AM and he will personally be there. Nathan called morning of move that mover quit and rescheduled me to 1PM and will send 5 movers instead of 3. Yet movers called on their way at 8:45AM, with no communication that my move time was moved back up, after I already rescheduled everything. Due to the poor communication, worried for no show or late, we spent the whole afternoon/evening of the day before pre-moving all the small/medium items and boxes/tubs that would fit in our SUV over 10 trips into the garage. We had to be moved out and fully cleaned by end of the move day with severe penalties for failure to vacate. This greatly reduced how much they had to move leaving washer/dryer set, two shelving units, couch/end tables, kitchen table, 3 small desks, 1 heavy king bedroom set, 1 flatscreen tv, 1 queen bedroom set, about 10 larger boxes, few misc items. Three movers showed up - one head mover, one skilled mover, and one trainee without Nathan. The head mover was very slow, spent the majority of the time in the job "organizing" which amounted to hiding in the truck and only working when he noticed we were watching. Every so often he would move one large item to show he was working. A unknown passing neighbor noticed this and even commented about it. The second mover was by far the hardest worker and worked fast. The third mover was very inexperienced and spent a lot of time standing around watching, putting in the least amount of effort possible. We were quoted 6-7 hours and we were charged 8.5 hours ($1,137.50). They did not disclose but charged a half hour trip charge for a 7 mile drive from their office and at the end of the day they rounded up to the hour. We were moving from a two bedroom - 1,390 sqft - 4th floor apartment with elevator and straight hallway, about 100ft walk. During the middle of the weekday so elevator contention was low with 28 units. We provided an industrial large flatbed and a tall laundry cart used for commercial space below. We moved 3.5 miles north (8 minutes drive time) into a two story home. They took about 45 minutes to drive due to long lunch break which they charge you for. We moved the opposite direction with another company last year from a two story home with similar layout to the 4th floor apartment and it took 5 hours (2 hours to load and 3 hours to unload) with two movers and my help in last June with all our items. It is outrageous it took 8.5 hours to complete the move. Even with me helping them with disassembling the furniture, unwrapping, returning blankets, moving all the small items I could, and helping with some of the larger items it still took them 8.5 hours. At one point my 205 lbs king mattress fell over on the two other movers and was about to throw them off the ramp and the head mover did nothing to help and I had to run and jump in to help them. We blasted the AC in both the apartment and house, picked up lunch for them, got drinks for them, tipped them generously and helped where they let us. We tried to take care of them because it got hot ranging from 75 to 90 degrees and heavy furniture. Yet we still got ripped off, as it should not have taken any more than 5 hours with our help. I think if the owner Nathan was there, it would have gone much better and why other reviews are so positive. I think without him, his movers get lazy and run out the clock intentionally to get paid more or this is not his normal crew. I contacted Big Bear Moves to move a sectional Sofa from my sister's house in Leander to my house in North Austin. I worked with Nathan and he quoted me $95 an hour for two men plus a $35 fuel surcharge. I agreed and we scheduled the move for two days later at 9AM. However, the day of the move, 9AM came and passed with no word from Nathan or the movers. At 9:50 I decided to contact Nathan and he let me know that the movers had hit some traffic and were on their way. Now this was fine as it was right after rush hour on what is usually a 45-minute drive. I just thought that they were running a little late. Unfortunately, it wasn't until 10:45 that I got a call from the guys with the truck who let me know that they had to stop, get gas, and that they would be there shortly. It wasn't until 11:35 when they said they had arrived at my sister's gate, and since I had given Nathan the gate code I figured they would be at my sister's house shortly. But when noon rolled around and my sister said they weren't there yet I got concerned and had her call them in case they got lost. Turns out they did NOT have the code to my sister's gate and had been waiting there for her to come get them. It was about 12:15 by the time they got to my sister's driveway when they discovered they would not be able to get up her driveway despite many other delivery trucks being able to in the past. This lead to them taking another 15 minutes sitting in the truck before actually walking up to my sister's door and getting to work. The movers were nice guys apparently but my sister let me know that they seemed to be working EXTREMELY slowly taking their time, resting against the furniture, etc. Despite this they were able to get the couch loaded within an hour. From there on the experience went smoothly and from arriving at my sister's door to finishing unloading at mine took about 1hr 50min. This is when I was told that they would be charging me for 4 hours at a total of $468 when I was expecting to be charged for two maybe three hours max. In addition, $468 was more than the 4 hours at $95 + fuel fee that I was quoted anyway. The drivers told me that they begin charging from when they leave their place of business which was NOT discussed with me by Nathan. This is despite them being over 3 hours late. They explained that they had to drive to three different gas stations to find diesel which I argued I should not have to pay for. Furthermore, when I brought up that they sat at my sister's gate for 45min they proceeded to argue with me that it was not true. I asked to speak to Nathan but they only had Chris available. Chris was extremely ill-informed and obviously did not know when I had scheduled the move because when I told him they were supposed to arrive at 9AM he checked the GPS of the truck and saw there was a discrepancy from what the drivers were saying. He did not go into detail regarding this discrepancy. Despite all this Chris would only drop the charge to $350. I proceeded to write a check for $350 as the drivers would not leave until they got it, but said that I would be speaking to Nathan. Eventually, after talking with my sister who explained the situation from her perspective, Nathan contacted me and was very sorry for what had happened. He also agreed to tear up the check I had written and settle at a total of $225 dollars. I am very thankful for this and it goes a long way to making this right, but overall I wish the drama would not have happened in the first place. I feel bad for giving such a low score here as I usually give higher ratings even for bad experiences, but I feel like Chris could have done more to take ownership of the issue rather than not believing me initially and not doing everything he can to make the situation right immediately. In the future I am going to be sure to ask for a flat rate ahead of time and make sure we define exactly when the timer starts. I would encourage Nathan to try to communicate that better with his customers, to communicate expectations to his drivers, as well as making sure access is not a concern for the size of truck that is being used. Which could be as simple as checking Google maps ahead of time. Overall, my furniture got to it's destination at a reasonable price so I can only complain about the time lost to dealing with this. But I appreciate Nathan making it right. read more

I have contacted BBM through yelp multiple times and they are always quick to respond. They moved my mom from Austin to San Antonio and took care of getting all her things moved safely. Even though we had to deal with traffic they made the price very fair when they could have charged a higher total. I had a great experience with Big Beard Movers. I needed to schedule a move in a rather short period of time. I emailed Big Beard Movers and Nathan responded very quickly. When it was move day, Rick called 30-45 minutes before their arrival, as I was told they would do. They were right on time, actually a few minutes early. Both Rick and John came up to my unit and accessed all the items I needed moved. My sofa was too large for the elevator so Rick used a hand truck/dolly to move the sofa from the third level to the ground level through the parking garage, which I thought was amazing. They loaded up all the furniture very quickly and we went to the storage facility. The storage facility is where their experience really showed. They had a great method of moving the furniture from the truck, to the elevator then to the storage unit. The unit I selected might have been too small for people who did not know how to place the furniture in there. But they did an excellent job at fitting everything in and there was additional space for extra items if I needed it. There weren't any hidden cost. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism, speed and hard work. When I need to move my furniture out of storage I'm definitely going to call Big Bead Movers. Hands down five stars if I could give them more stars I would. I would totally recommend Big Beard Mover!!! read more

Chris was a stand out mover, he told me which parts I would need to make my washer hook up in my new apartment and offered to install them for me. UPDATE: The owner, Nathan, called me and explained that the difference in fees was a result of miscommunication between the movers and himself. He refunded me the additional fees. I scheduled my move for 11 AM and the movers actually arrived at 9:30 AM. They gave me a 10 minute notice - the owner said they would give me a 30 minute notice I was charged $100 more than I expected. I was quoted $95 / hour, the move in total took about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The mover suprised me by telling me there was a 2 hour minimum, as well as a "Transportation Fee" or similar. I was not aware of these extra fees and if I had known about the extra fees I would have gone with another company. The move itself was fine - Everything arrived in good condition. read more
