Had to update again because we did come back, only because we were in a pickle and didn't realize I threw my kid's cleats away and this was the most convenient stop. Deven on register is a godsend for your store, super friendly, kind and the epitome of what customer service should be. Everyone on the floor, was not there on our last visit and it was a total 180 experience. Everyone was so genuine and helpful, I wish I got the name of the guy helping us because he definitely went above and beyond to assist us in finding the perfect cleats for my kiddo which I really appreciated. Ended up walking out with a new Lego set and also some new sports bras off the clearance rack, such a better vibe with this visit! P.S. And with the amazing customer we have received today, we were shown that they absolutely did have more cleats, an entire tower of them that we missed the last time because we received no assistance. read more

1/4/28 BASEBALL SEASON has arrived and this Grandma took her boys shopping for cleats and other baseball gear. BIG 5 to the rescue. There's so much on sale right now but nobody on the floor to help. We had to hunt down someone in the shoe dept., and he wasn't very helpful. It was 85° outside and the store was HOT inside. Prices were right for the cleats and baseball glove I purchased for our 7 year old. Just wish we could have found help. I needed someone to size both boys for a glove and a bat. Nobody around so we went to Dick's. The cashier was friendly enough so I will give this place 5 stars because of her. read more

The manager nick that was on duty 1-14 in the evening is very sexiest and dicrimitive against women. My girl friend was trying to ask for an item to buy, said the item 4 times and showed a coupon photo and when I tried to help and say the name because he for someone couldn't comprehend or listen then got mouthy with me asking who was purchasing the item and that if I was purchasing then I don't need to talk. It was very disrespectful and very rude and terrible customer service from a Manger not ot mention he took a long time to come out and help with the items. So we came in for a bag stand (boxing) and needed to wait for someone to bring us the "heavy item". Our cashier, Heather, (at least that is what the receipt read), was super sweet, and greeted us well. She asked for the person to come up front to help us, and after what took about ten minutes, a man comes prancing out and going a different direction. When Heather lets him know that he is needed on our side of things, he yells' "I'm coming I'm coming I'm coming" with a harsh tone at the cashier. He waves his hands at her, and is completely aggressive towards her, to the point that my party is getting upset. He finally leaves to retrieve the item, several more minutes later, he comes back, and is again aggressive with the cashier, being obnoxiously nice to us in contrast.. we ended up plucking the item off of the dolly, and walking it to our car to avoid any more interaction with the odd fellow.. I did end up calling on it, in hopes Heather doesn't have to work in such a condition... fingers crossed. read more

This place is a joke. They don't seem to be in touch with reality. Every other store near them is letting people come in as they show up with masks. This Big 5 lets a couple people in at a time so they have a line out the door about 50 feet long. Takes 30 min just to get in. Are you kidding me. You're not making the world a safer place. Women, you cannot try on clothes here still as of 12-1-21. So I bought nearly $400 worth. Only kept one item. Brought the rest back. Three of the items skus didn't match 3 of the items on my receipt. Even though I explained that I don't live in the area and have only been to the store once they would only give me store credit, which was less than what I was charged. Even though I was upset by this since I wasn't going to get more clothes to potentially do another hour drive round-trip I still looked throughout the store for something to buy. They don't have hiking socks which is really all I needed so I left with nothing, but the memory that I will never shop here again. The place has cool workout equipment too if you're into that. I've bought workout clothes too for zumba and it's very high quality. Nice thick material. I also bought an Everlast heavy bag stand for the honey, which is pretty sturdy. After standing in line for approximately 5-10 minutes, I asked to purchase my annual fishing/hunting license to which the cashier said she couldn't do it but the manager will in 5 minutes. I use to never come to Big 5, Dick's Sporting Goods was my store but after my bf introduced me to Big 5 and got me signed up for their email deals, I've been coming here to do all my sporting shopping. Every time I come, I get the best deals on items. They have one day deals where you literally score on what you're buying. Customer service has always been good too. If you don't get the emails, I'd recommend signing up, they have great bargains for quality stuff. As far as apparel I wouldn't recommend as the selection is limited but when it comes to shoes (soccer and hiking) as well as soccer and hiking supplies, I've been satisfied. read more

Elena is a vey rude manager or supervisor whoever she is. Two weeks ago I bought over $1000 of clothing here and today I came to return couple of things that didn't fit me. She treated me so badly and made me so uncomfortable returning unused and not worn jacket and pants. She does not know how to treat a customer and because of this experience I will never come back here again. We have the right to return merchandise and she should treat a return customer same as a buying customer politely and worth respect and a smile! Plus I had all the receipts and tags attached. I appreciate when a store is willing to go above and beyond to satisfy a customer. In this instance I purchased my 10th consecutive annual adventure pass and forgot to pick up the second car pass. (supposed to purchased at the same time as the primary car pass). I came back a couple weeks later (in the same month) and they were happy to accommodate my purchase of the second car pass without hesitation. (I did have my pass and receipt with me from the first pass purchase). I appreciate that common sense sometimes trumps a rule and is in the best interest of the customer. Terrible customer service! We went in yesterday to purchase ammo from the ad in the newspaper. Nobody acknowledged us standing over at the ammo counter so my Husband had to stand in the regular check out line just to ask for assistance. Once at the ammo counter, the employee had no knowledge of the advertised mail in rebate. She tried to give us the incorrect one and then said they didn't receive any mail in rebates for that particular ammo that was in the ad. She didn't want to bother with corporate and told us we needed to contact corporate for the mail on rebate coupon. To instruct a customer to do the store's job in incredible. We are quickly reminded why we don't shop at Big 5. Needless to say we spent 30 minutes in the store (mostly being ignored) only to leave empty handed. read more

I like this store a lot. Every time I've been there, the employees have been very helpful and attentive. Their selection of shoes, clothes and various other sporting goods is very broad, and the prices are very affordable. My only hang-up is that every other store on earth can figure out the new chip feature in debit/credit cards. Somehow, Big 5 can only process your check cards as debit. read more

Horrible experience at this Big 5 due to Elyse or Elcee (Not sure the spelling of her name,was just told by Rebecca that this was the young ladies name). I came in looking for Winter items for myself, husband and 2 kids and had found everything I needed except for a pair of boots for my Husband. I looked online and the website showed the item I was looking for was available and in stock at this location in the size I needed. I walked up to the register and her and Rebecca were talking amongst themselves. When I asked for assistance Elyse because immediately annoyed and rude because I had interrupted their conversation. I asked for assistance in locating the item and she refused to help me stating that whatever was on the store shelves is all they had and that I would have to look through things myself. All of this while I have my 8 week old screaming in the stroller and my 7 year old with me as well. You would think any decent person in customer service would see this and immediately help, but NO. I then also noticed a water spill (see photo) on the floor and notified the same girl and again I received an attitude. It's not gonna be my ass on the line when someone Sues your store for a slip and fall. If I was the manager I would not want this girl representing my store what so ever. She was extremely rude it was disgusting. As a manager she should have acted a lot more professional. They wouldn't return a box of CO2 because they were the wrong brand for my gun and leaked constantly. He called the manager over who then tried telling me im wrong and that's what's supposed to happen! I told him no it's not and he refused to return the cartridges I bought 2 weeks prior and had the receipt. I ended up going to Carlsbad and they returned my cartridges no problem and ended up buying another gun from them. The Carlsbad manager is awesome! I've always thought it's nice that we have a Big 5 in the area for affordable sporting goods. If you walk into the store aware that you are going to get necessarily the highest quality stuff, you can still get very effective sporting goods at a good price. I am all for abiding by rules and such but limiting a plastic pool to one per customer is ridiculous. How is a plastic kiddy pool an essential item where as there is a limit. Manager was rude and stated it was one per household however your sales associate was the one who grabbed them for me with the ladder. Couldn't find one on sale even though website said they had some in stock. They offered to call another store and put one on hold.
