This is long overdue (1 year?) but I just want to acknowledge how incredibly knowledgeable and helpful the "older" man working in the shoe section was as I was trying to choose shoes for a long upcoming trek. Because of him and the cashiers working at the time (who helped me with a return and a discount coupon and were very patient) I am giving this location 5 stars. This was a second visit. I only came back to the store as I had a return. My first experience was miserable. The "younger" male at the shoe area was very unhelpful, part of why I ended up with the wrong type of shoes. What was more distressful for me, though, was how he treated a very elderly gentleman who had trouble walking and putting shoes on and off. It was obviously an effort for this veteran to get into the store from his car, much less to the back of the store. (BTW, he did not appear homeless/disheveled/dirty. The clerk was quite dismissive of this man who was obviously in very very poor physical shape. I ended up helping him try shoes on (the clerk disappeared), and made suggestions the clerk should've been making for shoes that were easier to put on and walk in. Anyway, the clerk didn't seem to care about his job or the customers. I don't recall any other noticeable interactions with other staff. I had planned a 1 star rating but never got around to it. Then, my next visit I met the older clerk/manager? who was attentive, helpful, patient and everything the first clerk wasn't. So that made up for it for me. HE would've been kind to the elderly gentleman. And the rest of the staff was lovely. So I decided on 4 stars. I just hope the district managers talk to staff about kindness to all, especially for those who need it most. read more

I picked up a couple of pairs of shoes from this Big 5 Sporting Goods store. One pair for walking and another for easy to moderate hiking trails. They had both in stock, so located them was quick and easy, not to mention having my size. Both pairs were very affordable. The young lady at the register was very cool and helpful. The store was very well stocked and organized. They offer a good amount of parking at this location and a very good selection of shoes. read more

Staff was fantastic! They helped us quickly and easily find everything we needed. Mom and I now have Pickleball shoes, she has wrap around sunglasses that she wears all the time now, dad got a great sun shirt and had to protect his head and neck from sun cancer. When we first walked in, it seems small and a bit overwhelming and I almost didn't want to bother asking for help. I had my reservations as to whether or not they would have anything for us. I went into the store to buy a backpack and they did not take off the safety lock before giving me the item as well as being handed no receipt. I only noticed it had the lock when I arrived home. When I went back into the store to have it removed, the lady at the front refused to remove it because I didn't have the receipt that they didn't give me, I only had the charge that was made to my card the previous day but that wasn't enough for her so now I have to remove it in my own. I went to the store at 666 Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon California on May 20, 2025. I just want to say that the cashier Katie and manager Josh D at the front greeted me as I walked in which was very nice and the gentleman in the back Alex L helped me for over 25 minutes Trying different shoes on, but when it came down to it, we didn't find one that wasn't wide. As I wear regular with so he brought me to the front and searched other stores nearby to see if they had any and Online but we were unable to find any. They just don't make them. His customer service was exceptional. He was polite, friendly with a big smile. I was exhausted while coming in, and he was helping me in every way he could The team that is working tonight, which is Alex, Katie and Josh D all have great customer service and is a good team to work together. I had got a BB gun and I was looking to exchange it and I called the company big 5 and they told me I could and even helped me get the receipt I will be calling them again because at this location did not let me exchange and the manager she was very rude hang up on me when we were on call and when I went in like I was told to she told me that they can't do nothing with it. Chelsea in shoes was amazing. Very crowded and very busy. Lots of people asking for different sizes and different shoes. Chelsea handled it like a pro got me the size that I needed in my new under armor boots they are super comfortable and look awesome. I got the khaki color Valsetz under armor hiking boots/running shoes. They seem like they breathe very well and they are super comfortable. I went 2 different places in town to try to find the ammo I wanted. Big5 had it in stock behind the gun counter, but there was nobody working at the gun counter. While standing there waiting for assistance, my husband and I both heard someone working in the office behind the gun counter, who did not feel the need to come out and check on us or offer to help. After waiting a few minutes I went and asked the cashier if she could call someone to help us at the gun counter. The cashier informed me that there was nobody working who would be able to sell ammo. Good customer service WOULD have been to poke your head out from the office, apologize that there is nobody there who can help, and ask me to return tomorrow. I stead you watched me stand there wasting my time waiting for help that would have never arrived - thanks. If you plan on going here for guns/ammo I strongly suggest that you call before you go down there, because they will just let you stand around waiting, unable to help you. 1 star is generous. Been going here for decades, but no more. Me, my husband, and 5 children between the ages of 6 months to 9 years old were in the store for 45 minutes with at least $500 worth of product in our hands when my 2 year old daughter needed to use the restroom. We asked an employee if we could use the restroom and after asking his store manager, Josh, we were told that unfortunately we were unable to do so. I understand not allowing anyone who walks off the street, but when you've been there for almost an hour and have a basket full to purchase, i would think an exception could be made for a two year old. Not so. We needed to leave all our stuff there and head out trying to find a toilet for a little girl crying about her need to pee. Smart move Josh. read more

I walked into the store, stood at the register when I guess a manager named Travis pointed at me and said what's wrong with them. I looked behind me wondering who he was talking to like that. Again he said what's wrong with them, referring to my return. He didn't even greet me as I walked in the store. I love that all the staff hear where there masks, but to get to the real review to me. There shoes? I love coming here and getting shoes, my one stop shop for them. I love there prices and the selection they have, plus they have like all the time I go in there they have moldable size just in case if one is a little to big or small I can ask for another pair. I have used this big 5 for many years. I loved when you guys used to have the 10 and 20% off coupons available easily online without having to sign up for emails. Unfortunately I have used you guys a lot less since switching over. I will say that your daily email deals are always great deals but I tended to shop more with the % deals. Up until yesterday I would have rated a lot higher stars. But unfortunately my experience yesterday was a 0 star. I called ahead to find out if you guys were selling bikes at this time and what their price ranges were. The girl that answered the phone seemed very annoyed with my question. Well I then drove to your store and you had 4 bikes out front all locked up. I asked the girl at the front of I could get some help looking at them and once again she was very annoyed that I was bothering her. I waited awhile for her to get someone while multiple employees saw me standing and never once asked if I needed help. Finally a guy comes to the front and I told him I would like to see a few of the bikes to sit on them and feel them out. Well he let me know he wasn't allowed to unlock them. Confused I asked how people see them if you can't unlock them. And his reply was well you can obviously see them and touch them you just can't ride them. Well obviously I wasn't going to ride the bike. But I do like to sit on a bike and feel it out before buying it. I told him that's fine I'll just go buy a bike at dicks sporting goods and that is exactly what I did. He didn't try to stop me or say no here let me get them unlocked. Nothing. He just said ok. Pretty sad. I went across the street and got better then imagined service. Unfortunately I don't know if I will use big 5 again because of this experience. I just wanted to write this review based on an experience my boyfriend and I had tonight. 1/5/21 around 6pm, we went to look at a wagon. The employees were friendly and engaging. We witnessed an aggressive customer who started cussing at the employees aggressively. One of the employees, who was behind the gun counters, handled it so professionally and stood up for the other employee. I was very impressed but it sucks that they had to deal with a crazy person like that. These people were doing their job 110% from what we overheard. No mis-information on any part.
