First impression: It was a little loud (difficult to have a nice conversation...just saying). The building and decor are beautiful, nostalgic, and rustic. Visually, it has a very warm atmosphere. The Old Fashioned drink menu is extensive, and the ones we tried were out of this world! Almost all ingredients are local and made in-house (including the caramel drizzle on one of the best carrot cakes we have ever had)! The service we had was complimented by the matching quality of the food. Definitely a return trip!

Great Food, Great atmosphere & Great service! Just passing thru the area and decided to give it a try...so glad we did!!! The food was fresh & delicious! The atmosphere was comfortable & friendly. They were having a comedy show upstairs; I don't know the details. There's a full bar inside the dining room. Definitely want to dine here again sometime!

Went here for a happy hour after work - didn't realize they don't open until 4:30 so we chatted for a bit in the parking lot before heading in on the dot. They have an extensive line of bourbon/whiskey to choose from, and several creative options for old fashioneds. I tried the tequila and the cherry - both very tasty. The place filled up FAST for dinner, and it was a Tuesday! We (party of 5) were seated and our server was attentive right away. We started with cheese curds and wings in the traditional buffalo flavor. Both were fine, average. The special for the night was steak tacos, three people in our party opted for those and really liked them. I ordered the pork schnitzel and was very underwhelmed unfortunately. The meat itself was extremely dry and overcooked, as was the spaetzle. What should have leant a nice creamy juxtaposition was gluey and cold. The breading on the schnitzel was falling off and greasy. I ate it but wasn't a fan. Our server seemed to drop off as it got busier and she knew we had our food. We would have ordered more drinks but by the time the check came the line was out the door so we scooted out. Fun place for drinks and apps but I don't think I'd come for dinner again.

I could eat here every day! The service was absolutely fabulous- thanks to Danielle! The bartenders know how to make a perfect old fashioned (Crown Royal+sour) & I would highly recommend! They have a drink menu with so many unique ones too! The mushroom risotto with perfectly cooked (medium) salmon was DELISH!!! Hubby loved his chili & we shared brussel sprouts for an appetizer. Can't wait to go back!

The BEST salmon I've ever had! One of my favorite dishes here

Hands down the best restaurant -- always great food, great service, and great old fashions!

Mostly ice at three bucks. The second time it was empty, no one bothered to ask if we wanted water or a refill. Water also wasn't refilled. Besides a strong preference for local non-chain eateries, I'm not coming all the way to Wisconsin and not getting cheese curds. Found this place on Yelp. Aaaaand.....I'm in love. The dark atmosphere and heavy, dark all-wood decor gives a vibe you can't find at any chain eatery. Our server, Bailey, was great at just simply interacting on a human level and making us out-of-towners feel welcome in what is obviously a locals hang-out. And yes, I got my cheese curds. I got the Manhattan off their specialty menu and my husband got their autumn barrel Manhattan. After trying both--highly recommend the one off their specialty menu. It was definitely superior quality. It's served over a block of ice so if you want it up, you may want to mention that when ordering. It tasted more like a classic old fashioned than a Manhattan but I'm not complaining because I love classic bourbon old fashioned cocktails as well. For a starter we got their much raved about bang bang shrimp. It came on a bed of greens and was good! For my dinner I got their seasonal chicken and dumpling soup and a side salad. Both were solid. The salad was definitely more ample than I was expecting. My husband got some sort of salmon alfredo pasta dish that came with roasted asparagus mixed in. I had a bite and he ordered well--it was decadently buttery and delicious. The service was super kind throughout our stay. Our server checked in on us regularly without being overbearing. Get to it!

Plenty of parking in the lot attached to this spot! The interior is small, but very nicely done! It was VERY festive for the holiday season! I understand it was the night before a holiday, but they were definitely understaffed. The three staff members (2 servers and a bartender) were, at times, sprinting through the restaurant to keep everyone happy! They did it with a smile too! Kudos to them, but management should help them out with additional staff on busy days. (We had a reservation for 10 people, they knew it was going to be busy). The food and drinks were alright...the Brandy Old Fashioneds weren't very boozy and the fish fry, while cooked well, didn't have any special flavor. We also waited almost an hour for our appetizers: cheese curds, calamari fries, and zucchini blossoms. I will say that the broasted chicken looked very good, but I didn't have any! Since our entrées included access to the salad bar, we started there. The appearance of the salad bar was disappointing. I realize it was later in the evening, but there were literally salad bar fixings all over the place. Some items were mixed together, some had spilled onto the enclosure, and there was food on the floor as well. Much of what was offered looked like it had come straight out of a can. The walleye wasn't bad. However, the mixed vegetables were a pile of mush, and although I had requested the potato pancake be extra crispy, it was still undercooked in the middle. The perch fry was okay, but nothing special. For dessert, she ordered the Brandy Alexander, and I had the LemonBerry Cake. The Brandy Alexander was very good, while the LemonBerry Cake was mediocre. Service: Our server did a nice job getting us settled in. Water and drinks arrived promptly, and they were friendly and pleasant throughout the evening. However, they became involved in a lengthy conversation at another table, so getting our check took quite a while. Atmosphere: To be honest, the place looks a bit run-down and could probably benefit from some TLC. Since it was later in the evening, there weren't many other diners, and the restaurant was relatively quiet. The view of the lake through the windows is spectacular and makes it a great place to watch the sunset. I wish the food had been better. Unfortunately, this isn't a place we are likely to return to.

Unfortunately, this second dinner was even worse than the first. The rice was undercooked, the short ribs were dry, and the scallops were gritty. I realize that, for some people, the Buy One, Get One promotion is a big draw. However, I suspect that the menu prices are inflated to offset the BOGO savings, so it doesn't end up being much of an actual benefit. My wish is that they would focus on improving the quality and consistency of the food and charge prices that appropriately cover their costs while still allowing them to make a profit. I don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon, which is sad because there is so much to like about the location and atmosphere.

Buckle up and keep your arms and hands inside this review…read more.. I was in town for a special occasion where my friends wanted to take me somewhere for a great steak dinner. One of my good friends was recommended F&H's, so that's where he choose to take me. First off the restaurant looks wonderful. Think country club, lodge, or your wealthy uncles house in the burbs...no complaints We arrived around 7pm on a Thursday night. I should have seen the red flags when we were first sat down. Red flag #1, the restaurant was somewhat empty for a dinner night. Red flag #2, the menu was a bit pricey, but understandable considering that this was supposed to be a premier steak house. Red flag #3, paper napkins and cheap silverware *think school cafeteria. When ordering, we should have picked up on the quality of what we were getting ourselves into was going to be low, when we learned that the $68 ribeye steak dinner, or any of the steak dinners were BOGO (Buy One Get One free). My friend ordered his steak well done (I know sacrilegious), and I had ordered mine medium...our steaks came out at the same time. The entrees were plentiful and picture worthy (I don't take pics of my food, I eat it!) I cut into my steak anticipating a soft, buttery bite and it was a little tough. I didn't give it much of a thought, I continued to slice through anticipating a more tender bite...nope. I tried another...nope. I tried a different side of the steak...nope. It actually got worse! I typically am not the kind of guest who complains, but in theory this was a $68 steak! This should have been tender to the knife, easy in the mouth, and full of flavor. The steak was one of the worse steaks I've had in a very long time! I couldn't hold back, so I mentioned something to the server. He was apologetic of my comments and immediately called one of the managers over to hopefully rectify the issue. The manager tried his best to defend the kitchen, and to justify that once in a while it happens, and guiltily offered to remake my meal, but stating, "well you know that it would take at least 15 minutes to remake"...I honestly was put off about the quality of the first one, and the look of my friends I was fine not eating. The manager then comes back and says, "well since these are BOGO, I won't be able to take it off the check...you'll still have to pay full price for the one"...so he then re-offered to have the kitchen remake the meal. I told him, "no thank you, I'm good", but then I thought to myself, NO! I had them make another meal to go for my friend to take home. In theory, the manager should have saved his offer, not wasted the time or food in remaking it. He should have discounted the one steak that my friend ended up eating, had just apologized, and have moved on. Now I've had a few days to ponder on it, and use the power of the internet to voice my experience. I have many friends and family who live in the area. I will spread my experience, and they will continue to spread what they had heard, and ultimately what could have been made right should have been done that night. Super easy fix...serve a delicious, well cooked piece of meat. Fix/Solve a guests/customers concern right away, no questions asked. Leave the guests/customers feeling satisfied, so that they leave happy, and the possibility to give you a second chance. My review won't prevent anyone from visiting your restaurant, but it will absolutely make them debate if it's worth the effort

As my wife and I walked in, we were amazed by the scale and beauty of the place. The hardwood bar needs to be experienced firsthand to understand how spectacular it is. Then you see the impressive fireplace and the charming dining area, and I was loving it before we even did anything there. We arrived early, so we went to the bar for drinks. My wife, the couple we were with, and I were each impressed with the size of the pours. We ordered a few glasses of wine, a fantastic classic Wisconsin Old Fashioned, and a bourbon on the rocks. The amount we were poured each was impressive, especially compared to other restaurants we've been to lately. The service was fantastic. We were constantly catered to, even though the place was packed. We were each shocked to learn our waitress was new and just starting to fly solo, because she was terrific. Finally, and most importantly, the food was excellent. We started with crab cakes and escargot. Both were absolutely stellar. The salad and bread service were delicious, too, and it was a nice touch that the butter came in slices (we didn't have to unwrap them from foil - a small thing but another plus). When our steaks arrived, each was cooked to the perfectly charred medium-rare we ordered (three NY Strips and one Filet Mignon). Paired with mushrooms, sauteed onions, and some of the largest baked potatoes we'd ever seen, we were in culinary paradise. We will definitely be back, and I imagine many times to come. I haven't had a night that perfect in a long time, if ever.
