The only significant fault is the staff asks at least 5 times during our meal "how is whatever we are eating?" It is annoying and they are consistently interrupting conversation. You can barely take the last bite before they are asking if you are done and can they clear? Definitely makes it difficult to "enjoy" the great food and atmosphere. We eat there almost every week because of the food BUT every time they ask us if we have been there before... we recognize all of them by name but few remember us. First time here. Came with another couple. We had 6:00 p.m. reservations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The building has been lovingly restored, with bar and dining areas on both the first and second floors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were seated right away on the second floor at a regular table. There are also some high-tops that were being used for parties of two. Our waitress did a great job getting us waters, menus, and our first drink order. She also let us know what the weekend specials were. We started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip, which was very good. It came with a bunch of pieces of grilled sourdough bread, which complemented the dip nicely. Our drinks were good, though I felt the Golden Hour Paloma was a little underwhelming. For entrées, we ordered the Grilled Salmon, the Orville Salad (with shrimp), the Filet Mignon, and I had the special, "Inferno" -- a grilled tenderloin filet on top of a deep-fried portabella mushroom, served on spinach with a touch of sriracha. While waiting, the server came over to update and apologize for the delay. I only mention this because I really didn't think the wait was unusually long (but I appreciated their attentiveness). After a few more minutes, our food arrived, and it was excellent -- served at good temperatures, with terrific flavors and generous portions. The special (filet on mushroom and spinach) was excellent. The filet was ordered medium rare but came out closer to medium; still, it was very good. The fried mushroom was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauces were an excellent complement and tied everything together. I would definitely order that again. We met on Saturday night prior to a show. At the bar when an Old Fashion was requested they charged for an Old Fashion and for the whiskey in the Old Fashion. They must be playing the money grab game! At our table, food was ordered. Gnocchi was one of the orders, the waitress asked if they wanted a protein. They said yes and were presented with a nice rib eye. They charged for both entrees which totaled over $60 without any extras! No mention was made of an addition cost for the protein. Again, the money grab game! I ordered salmon. It was a nice presentation which had brussel sprouts and a potato mash which were both very tasty. However the salmon was dry and looked more like a frozen fish stick than it did a piece of salmon. I won't be returning any time soon! read more

Stopped by to celebrate a birthday in the family. As my first time here, I was delighted with my overall experience. The building is historic, which always is a plus in my book and its quaint and charming inside, with just the right mix of modern + vintage. Service was great and food was delicious. We were a group of 5 and opted for 4 appetizers which was the right amount of pre-dinner treats. The cheese curds were delicious! They were little triangles and SO good. We also had the grilled shrimp, steak, tartare, and the burrata, which I definitely would order again. For dinner I opted for the filet mignon which was the perfect size and cooked to perfection. It was a Packers Friday night in Wisconsin so a fish fry was calling! My wife and I headed to The Orville to try something new. We went early (5:00pm) so we could be home to watch the game. We got seated right away in the homey dining room. They were gooey, salty and delicious with a dipping sauce that was delicious. We recommended them to the table next to us as it was their first visit as well and they agreed!. I ordered one of their craft cocktails, the Toasted Old Fashioned. I am used to a typical "Wisconsin Old Fashioned" and this drink seemed a little small. But what it lacked in volume it made up in taste! My wife had a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We both ordered the fish fry and I also got a cup of the clam chowder. The soup was hot and tasty and the fish fry was exactly what we wanted. We both had leftovers because we were feeling full from the appetizer. But the meal was fantastic! Not because the bourbon in it originally was bad just for a little change up. Bartender comes over to our table and asks very politely and genuinely concerned if there was something wrong with the old fashioned she had made. The waitresses we had were also stellar, attentive, joking with us throughout the night. The restaurant and the staff also give you cards for special occasion. Cool touch which led to one of the jokes of the night cause they accidentally gave us a card saying happy birthday so my wife was making fun of me cause I may be prone to not paying attention and maybe I marked the wrong box when making reservations. Long story short they accidentally gave us the wrong card, we laughed they laughed just added to the night. In all honesty we shoulda just kept the birthday card to add to a box of memories. Took my wife for her birthday and it was 93 outside temp. We arrived on time for our reservation and were taken to a table upstairs under a slanted wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We immediately asked for a different table, when we did, another person at another table even commented, "you don't want to sit with your head tilted for your entire meal," the hostess came back and told us she could move us to a different table but that specific table had a 6:30pm reservation so we would have to be out prior to their arrival. The restaurant knew it was our anniversary, we made our reservation in advance, and they couldn't move us to a different table and worry about the other reservation when they arrived, especially with almost all of the tables open?? Between the upstairs and downstairs there were maybe 5 or 6 tables being used. After this, we will no longer go to The Norbert or The Orville, horrible customer service. I should mention, on our way out, we were asked, if there was something wrong, when we told the person at the hostess stand, their only comment was "okay." ALL THREE filets were sent back to the kitchen = Medium is NOT "medium rare" - and the beef quality and portion were poor. Pork chop: thin, overcooked, chewy. Salmon: Way overcooked. The one person who ordered a salad lucked out. Bright spots? We went here for the first time this evening to celebrate our anniversary. I've heard nothing but good reviews and now I know why. I had the Violet Hour cocktail and it was unbelievably tasty - the perfect blend of sweetness and lemon. The cheese curds with dill ranch were delicious. My husband had the filet, which was tender and cooked to perfection. I had the roasted chicken which came with a mushroom and spinach pasta. The combination was heavenly. The staff offered us free dessert for our anniversary. We went with the chocolate tart with sea salt and carmel drizzle. It was one of the best desserts I've ever tasted. A very nice dinner set into a historic building overlooking the courthouse. I love the charm of the building-especially the 2nd floor. It was warm and cozy on a winter night. Our server, Brittany, was stellar. She was engaging and funny and provided some nice recommendations. We started with both the burrata and the steak tartare. The burrata was classically prepared with roasted tomatoes, homemade sourdough and olive oil and was solid. I wasn't as much of a fan of the steak tartare. The tartare solo was just fine but I didn't enjoy that it was placed on top of the sourdough slathered with horseradish aioli. The ratio of aioli to meat was off-making it too saucy and cloying. Again, not terrible but much rather have the components separated so I can mix/add to my liking. For our entrees, we all ordered pastas-gnocci, bolognese, and agnolotti. Appreciate that the pastas were all homemade and each dish was tasty with the favorite be the agnolotti with duck confit. While it was very rich, it didn't come off as heavy and paired well with the wine. The lamb/beef bolognese would benefit from a dollop of lemon ricotta to help balance against the "lambiness" of the dish. I will definitely put Orville on my list of my "go-tos" when I am in WB. Went to The Orville with my husband last night. We use to love the Poplar Inn, so this was our first visit to the new restaurant. I ordered the filet. It was cooked medium which I ordered, however I didn't like the Port Demi Glace sauce. Too sweet and salty and all over the plate and on my mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the Cacio E Pepe, which he thought was good. My drink had too much ice in it. Not much alcohol. We'll have to try it again. read more

Was visiting town for an event and found this place. The character of the building and the thoughtful decor made for beautiful and classy ambience. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with picking menu options. I'm gluten free so I ordered the chicken. It was comfort food and very a nicely done classic dish. The Orville salad was honestly the star of the show -- the flavors of the sesame dressing, the blue cheese, apricots, shallots and pecans were a light but complex flavor profile. Also worth noting, it was something different that I hadn't had before, exceeded my expectations, and a dish that I want to replicate at home! My friend has a pasta dish that she enjoyed, although she did make a comment about how it was smaller than she expected with the server's description of the dish.
