My fiancé & I came here while visiting West Bend. I would say that thing that got us in was the exterior looked very nice& quaint. The menu is a little sparse & the entrees are pretty expensive compared to the rest of the menu. Great drink menu. Bloody Mary was inexpensive to reasonable at $7. Very good draft beer menu too. I got the Broasted Chicken for just $15. It was delicious & very hot off the fryer. Well worth it. Alone this would have been a 5* visit. Great potato wedge fries. Reason for docking it a star is that their sandwich & paninis were extremely dinky & not worth it at all. My fiancé got the Half Panini & Soup combo. The Panini literally had less meat than what you'd get at Subway. Saw other people order a sandwich & again they looked dinky. I'd go here for the chicken again but the challenge is that half of their menu are salads & sandwiches that are not worth it from portion size & the vast majority of remaining are $25+ entrees. read more

Went here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and had a great experience! I love what they did with the restaurant space, we were quickly seated on their gorgeous patio, plenty of shade and nice ambience. Could definitely picture myself sitting by the giant stone fireplace with a glass of wine during chillier days! Our waitress was very attentive, always checking in to make sure we were enjoying the meal and had what we needed. The food was good, it didn't blow me away but was a solid standard buffalo chicken wrap and salad - portions were very generous for the price which I think was around $13. I thought the sun dried tomato was a bit of an odd addition to the strawberry salad, I'd swap it out with pickled onions instead. read more

Gary's Place was one of the suggestions I received on social media for a Wednesday fish fry during Lent. The menu had something for everyone, so my family and I hopped in the car and made our way over. I ordered a three piece beer battered cod with fries, my wife got a BYO cheeseburger and fries, and the kids got a grilled cheese and a kid's cheeseburger with fries. We also ordered cheese curds to share and I got a bowl of the soup of the day, which was cheesy broccoli cauliflower. I asked the waitress if she knew what kind of batter or breading the cheese curds had before we ordered them, specifically hoping to avoid cheese curds that have a cornmeal-like breading as I pointed out to her. She said they were battered, so we took a chance. Unfortunately, she was wrong and the cheese curds did have a cornmeal-like breading instead of being battered, so they weren't as crispy as I like and the plate had a fair amount of grease on it. I would rather get mozzarella sticks next time if we get an appetizer at all. I was excited for the soup because it's been a while since I've had cheesy broccoli. The flavor was fine, but it was way more salty than cheesy broccoli soup from anywhere else. I don't know how often they have the cheesy broccoli cauliflower, but I wouldn't get it again if they happened to have it while I'm there. All of us loved our entrees. The beer batter on the fish was great, the burgers had a good amount of cheese and flavor, and the grilled cheese was huge. The fries have nice seasoning on them too. We all agreed that this made up for the subpar cheese curds and disappointment with the soup. read more

Excellent food, service and location!!! We had a large group dinner (25 people) in the upstairs room for a wedding rehearsal dinner on 9/5/25 and the food and service was outstanding! Want to particularly give a shout out to our waitress Carly (or Karly) who was exceptional taking care of our large group. Every one of our guests food/drinks order was perfect and prompt. Went to Gary's twice in one day, once for drinks and then back for dinner, our mistake. The first visit - mid afternoon for drinks - was less than optimal. Two servers for the whole restaurant, one of whom also had the task of also being the bartender. Service was horrible and the servers were miserable. Because we were staying at a nearby hotel, which we do when we visit West Bend, we went back for dinner with the hopes that the earlier experience was an anomoly...it was not. Bad service seems to be the hallmark of Gary's. If there is a Gary, please get directly involved in running your business well, or get out of the hospitality business, or - if neither of these are palatable - take your name off the business to stop embarrassing yourself. We will never, never go back until ownership has changed. read more

Gary's Place was recommended to me by some locals when I was in town last week. The great news was it was right across the street from my hotel so I was able to walk over. Located in what looks like a house with a large patio, Gary's Place offers a range of familiar foods in an inviting atmosphere. We were seated promptly for our reservation, and I was actually surprised how packed this place was on a Thursday night. Service was spotty given there was only one server for the entire first floor of the restaurant. The chef and owner were walking around talking with the people they knew so I hope they saw the need for more staff (it may just not be possible these days) We ordered our drinks and they took a very long time to come out. And when they did, some came and some didn't. The soda and the waters seem to have gotten lost but once we reminded our server, someone else brought them out but the other drinks were already consumed at this point so another entire round was purchased. These came up in a more timely manner. We started with the cheese curds and the bruschetta. Here again, there was a delay in these coming out. We almost got to the point of saying not to bring them as we knew the entrees had to be almost done. But we did enjoy them- the cheese curds come with a dipping sauce and the bruschetta was tasty. For our entrees, given there were six of us we tried a range of the menu- broasted chicken, paninis, salads and burgers. All were good although the chicken was my favorite, hot and crunchy served with fries and coleslaw. The second favorite was the Italian panini. Clearly I was too busy catching up and talking with people as I didn't grab any pics during my visit. All in all it was a good visit. I went back again and sat on the patio this time a little earlier in the day and had none of the service issues from the first visit so it's a little hit or miss. While visiting West Bend we decided to try this place for fish fry because it seemed cool and had decent ratings. We arrived at 6pm and were seated right away, however when downhill from there. We waited 15 mins for waitress to come. She took our fish fry order then came back after 40 mins to say they were out of cod which is what we ordered. We almost left but decided to order something else. Waited another 40 mins for that food which was ok. By this time we were ready to go and get had to wait another 20 mins just to get our check. In the end they only comped our two sodas. Wont be going back. read more

What a great find. Terrific atmosphere with a very efficient and friendly staff. Our service this evening was super nice and very accommodating. We had the broasted chicken, cowboy burger, and French dip. I know my chicken and this was some of the best roasted chicken we've ever had. The prices are very reasonable and the food was very good by all accounts. We definitely recommend and will be coming back in the future. read more

We needed a place to eat that had a patio that was dog friendly. Gary's is certainly that place. The food, Friday Fish Fry and the BYO Burger, was very good. A word of warning, the BYO Burger is $14.95. When I asked what I can add the waitress said whatever I want. It doesn't list on the menu that there is a charge for it. I added bacon, cheese and pickles, onions, tomato and lettuce. When I got the bill my burger was $20.95. It was a good burger for $14.95, definitely not a good burger for $20.95. read more

I was present when Laura G was at Gary's. interesting that she posts she's from San Francisco, she told everyone at the bar she was from Missouri, training with a local Assisted Living Facility. Laura G had issues with her food, but the restaurant made every attempt to satisfy her, with the Chef asking her what it would take to satisfy her. The food is ok, not great and has room for improvement. Kids mac and cheese bad dark specks/chunks like cheese may have been leftover and burnt as it was reheated. The hot as hell burger was to have fresh peppers and they were pickled. The other in our party had a burger burnt on one side. Service was alright we told them about the max and cheese and they walked away. Water/drinks were empty most of the visit waiting on refills. Atmosphere at this location is always great even before the current business took over. I would say the dinning area is kid friendly and offer many choices for kids to eat. read more

This is a nice bar restaurant with a great outdoor patio. Unfortunately our experience there for dinner was very mixed. The food was hit and miss. The fried mushroom appetizer was very good. Lightly breaded with a great dipping sauce. My wife had a roasted vegetable salad that she really enjoyed. The miss was the Italian panini I had because it was more like a grilled sandwich than my idea of a panini and not particularly flavorful. The other up and down part of our experience was the service. Our waitress got lost for extended periods of time so we couldn't order additional drinks or dinner in a very timely manner. Then it took a very long time for our dinner to arrive and we had to ask about it's status. Overall it was worth going one time but we aren't feeling the real need to go back again. read more

reason for a one star is Levi was awesome and tried his best to rectify the situation. and also the servers were great too in trying to help. I did not want to be a bother or a nuisance. chef came at me like I was wrong. as I know not everything is or can be perfect but after they made my food twice it was still terrible. I accepted it and didn't want anything. then I went outside to have a smoke and the chef was shit talking about me to a couple of regs and didn't notice I was there until I said something and called them out. read more

It's so hit or miss. My first time there was just fine. I only got the French onion soup which was warm and flavorful. Second time I went I got the bbq wings. They were crispy and had a lot of meat. I got a burger for my meal and it was okay. Third time was a mess. The owner was at the bar so I'm surprised he didn't apologize or acknowledge what was going on. We got the wrong wing sauce twice which wouldn't be the worst thing if the sauces were good. One I couldn't even make out what it was and the second was teriyaki but it tasted like only soy sauce. My partner got raw chicken in his chicken wrap and my burger was overcooked. Won't be returning after we had to pay for everything even the undercooked chicken. read more
