Very similar to a review from someone last October. We used to love coming here. Something changed. We'll start with the iced tea. Didn't finish half nor did my wife. Not sure what powder they used, but no. We both had the Friday Fish Fry. What was the thing that always brought us back is gone. Cafeteria cups of apple sauce, grey potato pancakes paper thin...just bad, runny Cole Slaw. The fish was good but came in mini bites. The fries must have been at the bottom of the bag...all small. Server, bus-girl and person who seated us were great. Poor performance from the kitchen. We were asked if we had a rewards card. I do. But I won't need it anymore. Again, sorry things changed. Was in the area and thought we would pop in with no reservation and we were happy to find out that they could get us in on a busy Saturday night. Drinks were tasty, and the pickled mushrooms are handmade! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the ambiance was perfection. We sat upstairs and it felt very private. We both got the prime rib and it was one of the best I've ever had. Got the fried mushrooms as the app, and while I didn't favor the sauce they came with, we asked for ranch and that was great! Really hate to do this review, but I want to give others an honest review. Visiting from out of state and picked this place for dinner based on YELP reviews and photos. We had such high hopes after the high quality drinks at the bar. The atmosphere is impressive until the take you back to the dining area where the tables/chairs are too tightly spaced and the lights are so dim it's impossible to read the menu without using the light on your cell phone. All of my food pics required flash. The wife ordered the walleye fish and I ordered a medium ribeye. The inside of the steak was corrected, but the excessive black char and gristle made it impossible to enjoy/finish. Second worst steak I can remember ever having in a restaurant. So if you want a great place for drinks come here but don't stay for dinner. read more

The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but once you get inside, there is a quaint hometown atmosphere that is super nice. The restaurant was busy but we got in and served quickly. The is lots of support staff to help and all are very friendly. Dinner was excellent all the way around for all 6 of us. Dinners included soup and salad. The schnitzel was exceptional, chicken parmigiana, veal siciliano and filet. From all accounts all the entrees were delicious and Old Fashions were tasty. We'll be back! read more

First of all, I have to say that the staff here is lovely. The hostess, bussing staff and wait staff are very friendly and helpful. Sadly, the quality of food and drinks don't match the level of service. I ordered a cosmopolitan, but it was so thick and syrupy sweet, I could only take a couple sips. We had a haystack for appetizer, which was ok, but rather greasy and a bit undercooked. For dinner I ordered the Friday fish fry with potato pancakes. My husband ordered chicken Siciliano with hashbrowns. The chicken flavor was ok, but very dry. The hashbrowns did not have any kind of crispness. The fish came in like heavily breaded "balls" and had no flavor, not even the breading. The potato pancakes were paper thin and soggy with grease, tasted somewhat burnt. A plastic cup of commercial applesauce came with the pancakes....it didn't help them. The french fries were dry and unseasoned, the cole slaw was bitter. It was the first time, and probably will be the last, that we've been to this place. Which is too bad because it's a cute little restaurant. But when you have to come home and make yourself something else for dinner because you're hungry, it's just not worth it. read more

This is our absolute favorite Friday night fish fry place. My husband gets the fry and loves it (I steal a small piece because it's sooo good), but I get the baked which is better for me. I order it blackened or Cajun. They offer a vegetable too which I usually get, plus you can get a salad. Most fish fry places are carb intense which I don't like. Service here is excellent too. And...they have my favorite white wine. We don't get a desert but I've seen them and they look fabulous!! read more

Last Thursday I had dinner at the Little Red Inn. As usual it was delicious. You do need reservations. It was an array of German dishes. Hog Wild was the special. One in our group had the special and love it. Everyone else said their meals were excellent. We will be back . Give it a try. read more

We stopped by the little red inn for a random Saturday night. It's a local favorite and is recommended often. The restaurant was lively, but not too loud. I would say that it is a family-friendly restaurant. It gets busy so we were told to make a reservation. Our waitress came over right and told us about the specials on the menu. I started with the pomegranate martini ... these were so good. After drinks, we started on the escargot served in a butter sauce with breadsticks. My husband enjoyed these and the portion was generous. Our meals came with soup and salad, I did not get a chance to take a picture but they make their blue cheese in-house and it was the best I've ever had. The French onion soup was on the salty side for me but this could be a fluke. I will give it another try on the next visit. We stuck with what we knew ... I got the boneless ribeye medium well and my husband got the king tut ribeye ... he had plenty to take home! Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend it. read more

It was our first time going to Little Red Inn and we sure are happy we stopped in. Your food is amazing. We all had the family style fish fry. The cod was great, the coleslaw (the best ever) and potato pancakes were yummy too. The meal also came with large slice of rye bread. I had the best experience here. Food was outrageously good. The menu was incredible. Fancy for sure. I had raspberry walnut encrusted chicken, the chicken was moist and tender. Toppings were so tasty. Loved the raspberry walnut combo. My husband had steak and crab and it was so beautiful!! We also had after dinner drinks and desserts, which were also delish. I had cream of spinach soup (great), tossed salad (very good), raspberry walnut chicken (fantastic!) and baked potato (fine). My guy had baked French onion soup (quite good), spinach salad (super) prime rib (done perfectly) and horseradish mashed potatoes (excellent accompaniment to the beef). Our waitress was the perfect combination of friendly, knowledgable and unobtrusive. We didn't really NEED the brandy Alexanders for dessert but we don't regret them either. My only small complaint with our visit was our table. It was directly behind the hostess stand. My bf (who is exceptionally tall) looked like he was kind of jutting out into the main entryway. He didn't complain and insisted he was fine, but he's cool like that. My view (over the shoulder of my fabulous man) was of the window into the kitchen. I concede that they were doing excellent work back there, but I was a bit envious of the couples seated in the cozy little nooks. That small complaint will not keep us from visiting this restaurant again. The food, service and overall atmosphere of the place will bring us back. read more

It started off so well but went south quickly. Ordered a drink at start of dinner....ate appetizer....ate dinner.....no drink. But the water was coldish at least! Dinner was fine, nothing spectacular. Child ordered BBQ sauce for chicken and it arrived 20 minutes after food, and only when asked. No apologies, meanwhile I have to handle a hungry child who refused to eat dinner without the sauce. Finished dinner...and we wait for the bill...no offer of more fish for all you can eat fish fry....we wait long enough for me to write this review .....guy next to me keeps using the 'f'....i have a child....we wait....this is not fun....no drink....no refill on empty waters...we wait....bill finally comes....ask waitress if drink we ordered that never came is on there, she says no. So she knew it never came and chose to ignore it. This is the worst service I have ever had. read more

We did have reservations, and were promptly seated upstairs once we all arrived. Our waitress seemed to be learning the trade, and there were a few hiccups along the ordering process. We received our drinks and salads a little later than we would have liked (it was around holiday time and there were a lot of people, so I guess that was to be expected). The food was 'run of the mill, Wisconsin supper club.' That's ok in my book : it wasn't extraordinary, and it wasn't crappy. The Little Red Inn seems to be the spot for locals to meet up for a good family dinner. Such a cool building that I'm sure has been around for a very long time. The place is a lot bigger than it looks like from the outside. I have been here a hand full of times and now crave their Friday Fish Fry ( I don't think that even exists where I'm from) Its all you can eat fried and battered cod which go down very easy. This also comes with the awesome Potato Pancakes, which I tend to spread apple sauce and a bit of syrup. (again, I don't think potato pancakes even exist in CA) They recently hosted an awesome rehearsal dinner for my cousin Brian and his new wife Jess. They packed over 30 of us in the upstairs area, and kept the food coming while putting up with our loud asses. The bartenders were constantly working and no drink was ever left unfilled. read more

Disclaimer: Hartford, Wisconsin is a small town about a 45 minutes west of Milwaukee. As such, it does not boast a terribly varied dining scene. Almost everything in this restaurant is served fried. Some things that are not fried are: Shrimp cocktail, "Las Vegas style": rubbery Coleslaw Apple sauce (for spreading on fried potato pancakes). That said, the mains are all just okay, and, perhaps more disconcerting, all the same color of brown. Sigh. Gimme back my Thanksgiving turkey. It might be the same color, but at least it's not coated in breading and bathed in oil. Beer selection is good, but don't get the signature lite beer. It's terrible. read more

The Friday night fish fry we had was family style. We had cod, potato pancakes, french fries, cole slaw and rye bread. Family stlye is like all you can eat buffet but brought out to your table hot and fresh. The fries were crisp and the potato pancakes were wonderful with the homemade apple sauce with maple syrup. The cod was tender with a crunchy batter. The hostess was prompt and friendly. Our waitress was patient and chatty. The owner wished us a warm night on our way out. This is an authentic country supper club. So please don't expect Cracker Barrel food and service. It's a cultural thing here. Open your mind and be happy :-) read more
