The Wedge On 83 &175 - Mac and cheese for my fish fry. Flavorless.

JJ's On The Bend posts frequently in a local restaurant social media group I'm in, so I've known of…read morethem since they opened a couple years ago in the location that used to belong to The Wedge. They're a little farther out than I usually go for a fish fry, but I had time on this particular day and wanted to give them a shot. I ordered the Baja breaded fish with homemade chips and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. The fish fry comes with a side of mac and cheese too. The mozzarella sticks are an incredibly good value. Not too many places sell the awesome wonton wrapped kind that's also battered and it was surprisingly six sticks for only $8. I hope for every customer's sake they don't realize the mozzarella sticks are undervalued and raise the price or change what kind of sticks they serve. When I called to place my order I asked what the Baja breading was and was told that it wasn't spicy, but it added some flavor. You could have fooled me cause both the breading and seasoning had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Additionally, the fish was DRY. It's not often that I choose to not eat the fish I order, but this was one of those rare instances. The homemade chips were good. A couple pieces stuck together when they were fried so not every piece was super crunchy, but close to it. The cheese sauce for the mac and cheese was flavorless, yellowish-orange paste that weirdly had more heat due to specks of pepper than the Baja seasoning on the fish had. I was excited that my meal came with mac and cheese, but ate only a couple bites before giving up like I did with the fish. JJ's is cash only. I don't know if they have an ATM on site as I had cash with me and didn't need to look for or ask about an ATM. Though the mozzarella sticks were great, the fish being so bad is why I'm leaving a 3 out of 5 for my review.

I had a coupon for Lucky Shotz and it was a Friday night in Wisconsin, so stopping in for a fish…read morefry just made sense. I got mozzarella logs for an appetizer and went with perch and potato pancakes for the entree. The menu says the mozzarella logs were Italian breaded, but my waitress informed me that they instead had wonton style. In addition to being wonton wrapped it was almost like they were battered, but very dryly so there was a dust or powder on the outside that was kind of unpleasant. If this is a permanent change in style I wouldn't get them again. I really enjoyed the potato pancakes. They were clearly homemade and had some nice crispy edges. I appreciate that they came with both syrup and applesauce by default because I will always ask for syrup for my potato pancakes and having applesauce too is a bonus. I'd venture that most places that serve perch do it with beer batter. Having it breaded with cornmeal was certainly different. I don't think the breading accentuated the flavor of the perch like beer batter does and maybe even covered it up more than I would have liked, but I enjoyed the crispiness it achieved. The menu didn't specify lake perch or yellow perch, so I was expecting something cheaper like pike perch when it said the meal came with five pieces. Instead, it was yellow perch, which is fantastic, but I find it odd they give you two and a half butterflies instead of a full three. Raise the price a little if you need to and give us the full third butterfly.

Great time here great drinks here and everyone was talking about Rebecca they even has a countdown…read moreto when she will be at the bar. I'm not quite sure but had an excellent time . See ya soon

First time here. We were just getting started on a short road trip and wanted to grab a hot…read morebeverage and a pastry. Food: They serve all the usual coffee shop beverages, along with a selection of seasonal specialties. During our visit, they were featuring Banana Cold Foam drinks. I ordered a London Fog and a Cookie Butter Braid. Both were excellent. They did a wonderful job with the London Fog. The tea was properly steeped, it had a nice layer of foam, the flavors were well balanced, and it was served at the perfect temperature. They also warmed the pastry, which made it even more delicious. My wife ordered the Hippie Hash Bake, a Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a specialty drink. She enjoyed everything she ordered as well. Service: As soon as we walked in, one of the managers greeted us and shared a little of the history of the business, including its recent move to this new location. They also took the time to explain some of the menu items. Everyone else we interacted with was genuinely friendly and helpful. Atmosphere: The entire space is beautifully designed. It has a genuine retro feel while still feeling fresh and inviting. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit and enjoy your coffee and food, along with a covered patio with lots of café tables outside. They also have a bar that serves alcoholic beverages in the evening, as well as a mercantile shop with merchandise and gift items. This is a terrific coffee shop with lots of personality. I'll definitely be back for another London Fog and pastry.
