I absolutely loved my visit to The Norbert. Incredible food and drinks! Our server, Sydney, was super friendly and attentive. They had a bourbon and rhubarb syrup cocktail (The Weather Made Me Do It) that was one of the best I've ever had and I typically don't like bourbon. The burger and brumbola pasta was absolutely delicious. Also great fries. For dessert I couldn't resist the churro sundae and it is one of the best desserts I have every had. The churros were soft and pillowy and almost melted in your mouth. The pictures can't do it justice. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area or even if you're not. I enjoyed the vibe at the Norbert. Casual with a chic overlay, it's a great place to grab a couple small bites and a glass of wine. Besides wine, they do have a full bar and beers on tap I stopped in at Wednesday night and lucky for me they had a special ($5 off cheeseburger and steak sandwich). Always a man of value, I opted for the cheeseburger. Imagine an upscale version of a Big Mac minus the bun plus bacon. It was absolutely delicious and substantial. Complete with excellent fries, it is definitely worth the regular price of $19 and a steal at $14. My bartender was friendly and very attentive. Feel bummed to leave a less than satisfactory review for one of my favorite places in West Bend. Service was good. Arrived at 7pm on a Friday night, so, as expected, it was quite full. I happily located a seat at the bar and ordered their cod fish fry. The food arrived timely. Unfortunately, found the fish to be overcooked and rather tough. Stopped in solo and sat at the bar--what a lovely experience! I ordered the ruby red trout, and it was absolutely over-the-top delicious. The pistachio gravlax and sweet corn were a total chef's kiss--perfectly balanced, fresh, and truly delicious. My husband and I went to the Orville last year for our anniversary and had a wonderful evening. We went to the Norbert this year and it was phenomenal. Ann Marie took excellent care of us. The espresso martini was perfect. We had a variety of small plates, including cheese curds, Brussels sprouts, shrimp, fried chicken, and our favorite, the focaccia. Best dining experience in downtown West Bend. We saw this place on John McGivern's Main Street Show a while ago and decided to come to West Bend from Chicago for a few nights. It was certainly worth the trip. The ambiance is charming and comfortable. We went for dinner on a Saturday with a reservation. When we walked past on Friday and it was totally packed. Saturday also had a good crowd but it was the day before Easter so less people were out. The wine selection was great and we picked the Broadside Cab from Paso Robles. Delicious. Wine prices are also very reasonable in my opinion. Our server was busy so the hostess was kind enough to come over to get us started as we wanted to taste a few wines before picking our bottle. The service at this place is top notch. Our server Ashleigh was delightful, informative and charming. She had great suggestions and we had a wonderful conversation and dining experience. You can't go wrong with any selection from the menu. We started with the fried chicken which was crisp and divine. Then for entrees we ordered the short rib pasta and trout. Both were amazing. No room for desert so we finished our vino and my friend opted for an after dinner old fashioned which was amazing. Great food and atmosphere at the Norbert We got immediately sat for a table of 2 Friday night. Restaurant was busy but not too loud. Food came out very quick and service was great Our favorites were the candied bacon and deviled eggs. The Thai peanut sauce with the bacon was the perfect compliment. Deviled eggs were creamy with a strong marinated flavor. Korean fried chicken was delicious and crispy. Boneless thighs with a creamy buttermilk ranch. Fish tacos were solid but I prefer a thicker crispier breading for fried fish. Brussel sprouts had good char and flavor but I wanted them to be more crispy. The hubby & I decided to head out of the city & try our luck in the suburbs. We ventured to West Bend to see what The Norbert was all about. The only sucky thing was, we made a reservation(totally recommend)that they couldn't find. Not a problem they seated us right away. Which was wonderful, because it filled up fast. Who would've thought it being Tuesday!! They are a small plate place that serves huge taste! We each opted for meals instead & they were delicious! My husband had the scallops & wanted to lick the plate clean. My short ribs were fantastic, if I'd had let him, the hubby would have finished my 2nd bruschetta. In a word...Wow! We chose The Norbert because it had many options that were gluten free, this is a struggle at many restaurants . But it is clear at The Norbert the chefs understand that you should let a foods natural flavors come through and not cover them by dredging the food in flour. They offer up WI classics like cheescurds and fried chicken in a delicate coating of flour alternatives to still give you the classic food but keep it fresh and light. The flavor profiles of everything was of the charts. We had the cheese curds, brussel sprouts, fried chicken and steak tacos and EVERYTHING was amazing. The waitstaff is friendly and responsive to your needs. The owner is clear and present and working his tail off to make your experience the best! As we were preparing to leave, it was pouring rain, the owner thought he had some umbrellas stashed and stopped us to go looking for them. While he couldn't find them, the offer and time he spent to do this was very much appreciated. Then his staff suggested we come back in for some dessert. We said there was nothing gluten free in desserts and we were told, well, we may have something for you. The amazing chef, I think his name was Jay, made us an Australian Pavlova. Again, it had the most amazing flavor profile and texture variation, of any dessert we have ever had. West Bend has a hidden gem among it, The Norbert is a must stop for everyone, but make sure you leave us a table, because we will be back! read more

My Father in Law suggested this place and felt so strongly about it that he even bought us a gift card to try it out. I am glad we did. Who knew this awesome place is in West Bend and has been for some time now. We invited some friends to join and we simply had a blast. The food was awesome, we ordered 8 items off the menu and several drinks. For me the drink left a little to be desired. The Maple Manhattan didn't seem to have much maple flavor. Maybe that's to be expected but I was hoping for a touch more. The service was great, we were well taken care of and our water glasses remained full. It's weird but I do gauge my reviews on the details like water glasses. I gave it four stars and not five because of the live music. I am not a live music in a restaurant fan because it tends to be too loud and you can't really converse. This was the case the night we went. Good music but we were yelling at each other. When the band took a break you can notice the crowd was loud but then everything went to a more normal conversation level until the band started back up. Also, keep in mind that the concept here is shared small plates. Even though we ordered everything at once, things came out sporadically. It worked for us since we were not in a rush and enjoying ourselves, but I can see where people will have a real issue with this if you don't understand the concept. If you haven't, you must go check this out. We are exploring West Bend more but if there are more restaurants like this out there, we are pretty excited to see what we can find. read more

We just so happened to come when there was live music playing, jazz, that we really enjoyed! My favorite thing to get here would be the Brussel Sprouts, absolutely delicious!
