Shared a great dinner with a colleague here tonight. Some of the best clam chowder I've ever had, a great combination of Brie and pears on flatbread. The lobster mac & cheese was light on the lobster but was otherwise delicious. I'll be back again whenever I return to the area. read more

I visited The Norbert for the first time this passed Saturday night. The location in downtown West Bend is perfect and seems to be a busy spot for the locals. Though we went for dinner at 7 on a Saturday, there was plenty of seating that we did not have to wait for a table. The menu is diverse with a variety of flavors - there is enough options to satisfy any eater. We decided to try 3 plates between two people. The Pear, Brie & Honey Flat Bread, the Coconut Shrimp and the Roasted Brussel Sprouts. My favorite item was the shrimp. I enjoyed that it came with a coconut curry rice and it was all cooked well. The flat bread was simple, but tasty. I did not love that the brussel sprouts were so soft and were a bit strong on the garlic//onion. The service was spot on. Very attentive waitstaff that was friendly and accommodating. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant itself was really cute. There are tables to accommodate groups of all sizes and a large bar if you are simply on a mission for craft cocktails. Overall - this was a wonderful tapas experience and I would return. read more

Excellent-- from the cocktails to the caramel creme brûlée. This restaurant is a hidden gem! We started with martinis, perfectly mixed. Moving on, we ordered almost every item on the menu and each was wonderful. The fish tacos are the best we've ever had (there were 7 of us at the table). The roasted corn salsa was so flavorful- we would have ordered that all by itself. I just wish it came with more than two scallops. You MUST order the Brussels sprouts and the tuna tartare- both were excellent. I hesitate to recommend this restaurant because I'm afraid I'll never be able to get a table once word gets out! Complaints? Only one: the wine list is a bit scant, especially with the endless possibilities for pairings. read more

Great food and drinks! The service was amazing!! The collection of different shareable finger foods....was satisfying! Recommended

Overall great experience, however service was rather slow for some reason. My wife and I stopped in without a reservation around 5:45 on Thursday. We were seated at the bar for about 5 minutes before a table opened up so we were pleased up til that point. From there on however it was slow going. It took about 10 minutes to have our waitress stop over once we were seated, so by then we just placed our order. The food came out rather quickly. We ordered a few different types of tacos (since it was taco night), lobster mac and cheese, miso mushrooms, and the salmon dish. The fish and avocado tacos were delicious, and we both really enjoyed the lobster mac. I think we'd order that every time we visit. The salmon was delicious as well and the sauce on the zucchini (came with the salmon) was amazing. I thought the mushroom dish was decent, but my wife loved it. After that it took awhile to get the bill and took awhile to get it back. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to our drinks, it just was a bit slow when it came to ordering our food and getting our bill. Overall a very good experience. The fact that it's in West Bend allows us to have a little taste of the Milwaukee small plate restaurant style without traveling downtown. We will for sure be back someday. read more

Went to The Norbert tonight, service was great. We ordered the beets and fried chicken small plates, I thought the beets could've added another dimension by having citrus in the dish, it felt like it was missing something. The chicken was very good. Presentation of all dishes was wonderful. For our large plates we ordered the fish fry and black cod dish. The black cod dish was wonderful, while the fish fry was lacking flavor and was oily. Previously, The Norbert had our favorite fish fry in the greater Milwaukee area, their new take on a fish fry is not something I will order again nor is it something I would recommend. Nothing stood out about it, and it felt like a step down from their previous fish fry. Their previous champagne battered fish fry, with potato pancakes was unique and and an elevated dish, this new one, while gluten free seemed under seasoned, breading was not thick enough so the oil got into the fish and it wasn't elevated in anyway. It did not seem like something that I would expect from The Norbert. We did give our server the feedback on the dish, and hopefully they will take that into consideration as we move into lent season. Also- we ordered one of their drink specials which was phenomenal, and an old fashioned, with all the great old fashions at other establishments, I would not recommend ordering one here, maraschino cherries....enough said! read more

My first experience at The Norbert was phenomenal. The interior of the restaurant felt nostalgic and well decorated to perfection. The staff was very nice and attentive with the menu selection. Every day the menu changes which is very creative and interesting. Tuesdays they have a special deal buy 2 meals and get one free. I bought the Korean Fried Chicken which I rated 4 stars for taste, texture and presentation, the Lobster Mac which I rated 5 stars for rich flavor and intriguing bowl design, and finally the Fish Tacos which I rated 4 stars for taste, design and presentation as well. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who likes trying new places with a variety of food selections. One thing I would change is to expand the building for fit enough people at the bar and tables. read more

Probably more of a 3.5 For restaurant ambiance and service they definitely get an A. It was definitely a nice place to sit and enjoy the company of good friends in that it was well-appointed and reasonably refined while remaining quite accessible. The food is definitely good, though so of it fell into the category of trying to be creative and kind of missing the mark, and some of it fell into the category of seemingly pandering to foodie trends. I think they can get away with this because there really aren't many other places in the area doing a tapas menu, let alone exercising much culinary creativity. For the price tag though, it is a little bothersome to get a dish you feel like you've probably had and/or that is trying too hard. That in mind, the small plates format does open up a restaurant to criticism because you try so many things that you are bound to try some you don't like. Nonetheless it was good food, I will probably be back since they rotate the menu enough to make return trips worthwhile and because the food was good enough that I would be interested in trying more. read more

This is a Tapas style restaurant. Which is alot of fun and cool. It is nice to try a variety of dishes and share. I love love the atmosphere here. Casual yet elegant. Had the Lobster Mac and cheese, steaks sliders. A friend ordered fried avocado tacos, and Pear brie flat bread. All very yummy. One more dish was order extra by a friend the Korean Friend Chicken. Each dish had wonderful and unique flavors. If you are adventurous and love to try new dishes this the place for you. Service was great. Scott was are server. What a spot! The newly opened tapas bar is an delicious place to relax and enjoy the best part of life, food! With so many lovely dishes to share with your company, a friendly and jovial wait staff. The Norbert is a great place to be, even for an out-of-tower such as myself. The must have for this spot? Well the Cream of Mushroom and Brie soup! Hand made in house, delicious to the last drop, don't be embarrassed if you find yourself licking the bowl clean. The one thing I would change? Glad you asked! The wine list although you have some good choices, the selection is a bit limited, consisting of mostly mild mannered reds. We love eating here! We've yet to have bad food, everything is always made to order and brought out as it is ready (as is the style of the restaurant). Food tastes fresh and the variety on the menu is great! They always have a few things on there that never change, which is nice, but it's fun trying some of the new things as well! This is one of our go to restaurants in West Bend. The only downside is some nights they have a band play, and with it being such a small space, it can get very loud, to the point you almost can't hear each other across the table. read more

My wife and I stopped by for date night on Thursday. The Norbert is a nice change of pace. This night it had really solid live music that hit the vibes well. Menu is intriguing and good with a solid B+ to A- We both ended up with tacos. My wife split with the fried avocado tacos and fish tacos. She preferred the fish and felt the avocado tacos were a touch rich. I scarfed down the carnitas. Pretty simple taco but nice flavors and just the right amount of heat for me. I know these are small plates but I did find myself wishing there was a touch more pork in my tacos but in the end it all worked out. Good beer and drink selections and menus, both me and the mrs. enjoyed. My wife is more regular here than I am and she mentioned the prices may have increased slightly recently but with the difficultly with supplies and good help, that's the norm in our area right now. Overall a really nice evening and will stop again. Recommend to anyone looking for solid food, good drinks, a vibing atmosphere that is also a step away from the same ole same ole stuff. I love everything about The Norbert; I've been going since they opened. The tapas (small plate, possibly to share in a group) are wonderful. At times I actually crave their fish tacos. The atmosphere is upscale but small town friendly and beautiful. The chef is superb. The specials are always wonderful. The service has always been great and whether take out or dining in, everyone tries to make your visit a delight. I often moan that they're closed Mondays but it's a hard job and folks deserve their time off! read more

This place doesn't disappoint, With favorites like the fish tacos to rotating creations like the superb, crunchy and al dente succulent, savory (I could add many more affirming adjectives) "charred octopus - wholly fabulous! And the surprising watermelon appetizer, with chèvre , micro-greens seasonal cherr tomatoes - who knew watermelon and tomatoes could combine so well?! Love the idea of this restaurant, but we unfortunately didn't have a great experience. On a hot summer day, the AC wasn't on. All of our party were uncomfortable. Some of the items we ordered were fantastic - the carne asada and coconut shrimp, while others left a lot to be desired - the Brussels sprouts were hard and not cooked enough and the smash burger was extremely rare. Service was ok - definitely did not fill up our water enough - but we gave grace as at least they showed up for work. Ambience was very cool. We might try again as we heard such good things, but just didn't get that experience. read more

Not impressed at all with this place. Steak was just above Texas Road House and honestly service was just average. I wanted to like the place but it's just not that good. Plenty of places in WB that have better food and atmosphere. 2 on the same street within a quarter mile that have better steaks.
