The beignets were good and our brunch entrees were nicely prepared. Ambiance is nice with an open air concept. The only thing is parking is very difficult and the service times were slow.
There's a lot of hype around this place and I don't really know why after eating here. Our server was rude and the food tastes forever to come out. Another problem I have is that the menu literally says, "Substitutions or modifications are politely declined!" That is insane that they won't make accommodations for people. What if they have allergies? Let people enjoy the food how they want/like to. It's not your call. We started with the Beignets. These were very dry and tasted old. They serve the black sesame mascarpone and matcha cream in one dish, which stinks because the matcha cream is not good. I got the Duck & Waffle. The duck was easily the best thing here that we had and the passionfruit guava sauce (made in-house) was light and lovely. Unfortunately, my waffle came out cold and when I told my server, she said, with no emotion, "I'm sorry about that." Then, turned around and LEFT. They didn't fix my dish at all. It was insanely rude. My guy got the Latke Egg Benedict, which stunk of fish and tasted like old fish. We had to send it back for them to remake and it came out better the second time. Very concerning they would serve old salmon to their customers when you could smell it had gone bad. The latka wasn't too thick, which was nice, but the dish didn't have much flavor to it and wasn't anything special. The duck is the only good thing on the menu, but it is not worth dealing with the issues like rude staff and rotten fish.
Between Us is such a cute and trendy brunch spot in San Diego. We stopped by on a Saturday morning with our 2-year-old and didn't have reservations. Luckily, they were able to seat us at the large communal table near the entrance, which was totally fine. The place had a really fun, youthful vibe and was pretty busy with lots of younger groups. Since we had our toddler with us, we kept things pretty simple and shared the Two Eggs Your Way Breakfast and the Cornbread & Co, along with a Tiramisu Matcha Latte. I was really excited about the matcha since I saw quite a few people ordering it, but unfortunately it was probably my least favorite thing. The matcha flavor wasn't very strong and the drink tasted a little watery to me. The food was much better. Even though the breakfast was pretty basic, it was really good for sharing with a toddler. The toast with butter and jam and the crispy potatoes were definitely the stars. The fried chicken that came with the cornbread was also really tasty. Service was a little slow. It took about 15 minutes for our server to come by and take our drink and food order, and the food took a bit to come out after that. So I wouldn't necessarily come here if you're looking for a quick breakfast spot. It's definitely more of a sit-down, take-your-time kind of spot. This neighborhood is street parking, so plan accordingly. I'd also highly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends, since it seems like this place can get pretty busy.
I came here because my friend has been here a few times and really likes it, so I was excited to finally try it. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd come back. First off, parking is a pain. You're lucky if you can find street parking, and since this place gets pretty busy, I'd recommend making a reservation. I ordered the Mushroom Chazuke with Poached Egg ($24) because my friend recommended it. Honestly, this is so not something I would normally order, but I figured I'd give it a try. It's definitely Japanese comfort food, but to me it was basically rice, mushrooms, and broth/stock with a poached egg... for $24. I just couldn't justify the price for what you actually get, and honestly felt like it was a waste of money. I also tried the Brûléed French Toast with Poached Pears and Cream Cheese. Unfortunately, a lot of the top was pretty burnt and tasted bitter. I'm not sure if that's intentional with the brûléed style, but the brunt parts were too bitter for my taste. Overall, it wasn't the best French toast I've had, and for $20 for just one slice, it was overpriced. For drinks, I had the Butterscotch Matcha Latte, which was okay but nothing memorable. My friend got the Yuzu-Ade with sparkling water and said it tasted pretty flat and wasn't sparkling enough. Overall, Between Us is basically brunch with a Japanese twist, which sounds right up my alley because I love both Japanese food and brunch food. Unfortunately, the food just didn't do it for me. Between the high prices, portions, and flavors, I didn't find anything that made me want to come back. Honestly, I probably should've just ordered the Duck & Waffle instead haha. That's the one thing I'm kinda kicking myself for not trying. Maybe that would've changed my mind, but based on what I had, I wouldn't return.
Soo good!! Cute little brunch spot perfect for a weekend bite. We made reservations for our party of 4 so were seated immediately. Our waitress/server was super sweet and gave us her recommendations and they were awesome. We started with the sweet beignets. They were light and airy - we liked the sesame over the matcha although they were both good. The mushroom appetizer was amazing and fried to perfection! The yuzu sauce and garlic crisps paired so well with it. The star of the show for me was the chazuke with grilled fish. It reminded me of the simple meals in Japan. I would definitely order it again. The butterscotch matcha latte was sooo good too. I ordered that with regular milk. I will come back in the future with my family!
Food: 9.5/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 9/10 between us has always been somewhere ive been wa to go to, but I've been to in San Diego. Find you I'm a really big brunch person. For reference, my favorite place is sugar and scribe. there's a mushroom rice dish and it was my favorite. I love how all their dishes weren't salty and honestly everything we got fit my taste profile. All my friends got matchas and a black sesame latte. Those were really good as well as someone who loves Matcha, it really hit the spot so I will most definitely be coming back. We also got the eggs Benedict and the beignets. Everything was so yummy.
Super cute brunch spot in North Park, and we were glad we got a reservation because seems like this place can have quite a wait. Parking can also be challenging around here. The dishes seem to be inspired by other ethnic cuisines, but hey, they work! I like that they offer complementary sparkling water as an option, which was very refreshing with the recent heat wave. I also got a sparkling Yuzu-ade and was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the Yuzu flavor tasted without having an artificial aftertaste linger in my mouth. We got the beignets and cornbread for the table to share. The beignets were served with a matcha and sesame whipped dip, and I enjoyed the matcha dip better but both were flavorful. The cornbread was only one piece and came with a piece of fried chicken, which was less ideal to share between 8 girls. Maybe because I didn't get much of a bite with the cornbread , but I preferred the beignets more. For my main dish, I got the mushroom chazuke because I was craving something brothy. They serve the broth on the side so you can control how much broth you want to pour over the rice. This was very tasty and had a very earthy and umami flavor from the different types of mushrooms. I wasn't a fan of the garlic chips on top of the rice and picked them out. It did become rather overwhelming halfway into the meal, so I might recommend sharing this and another item to break up the flavors. I was also considering the hamburger curry, but after trying my friend's, it was nothing to write home about. Overall, the ambience and service were great, food was tasty, and I would return to try some of the other items on the menu in the future.
Searched up brunch spots and Between Us was the first place that came up, so we decided to give it a try. TLDR: terrible host We were told they needed to clean a table for our party of 2, so we waited a bit before being seated. As we walked to our table, I noticed there were plenty of open 2 tops, but the host with silver/purple hair sat us right next to a group of 5. It felt cramped, and the group was talking so loudly that I could barely hear myself think. We asked the host if we could move to one of the open tables for more space but it seemed like such a big deal, he had a terrible attitude. He said that a party was going to be sat at the one he was setting up... but the others remained open?? They ended up seating the incoming party at a completely different table. By the end of our meal, the tables we asked about were still unoccupied. What made it even more frustrating was watching another party of 2 come in and get the option of choosing any of the open tables, which was never offered to us. We ordered the beignets, duck & waffle, latke egg benedict, yuzuade, and matcha latte tiramisu. They were out of the latke, so they substituted it with a waffle. The yuzu hollandaise was extremely sour and tasted off, almost like it had gone bad, and the texture was really mushy. The matcha latte tiramisu was also such a letdown. It tasted like water even after I mixed in the foam, so I asked our server to take it off the bill. We ended up spending $76 for food that was just okay and service that was pretty disappointing. I wouldn't waste my time coming back, especially considering how rude and difficult the staff made a simple request to move tables feel. I had high hopes after seeing all the other reviews, but unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to them.
All of the food here was great! Would definitely add the steak to the curry hamburger. The matcha latte tiramisu was just okay, the matcha was watery. It's North Park, so parking can be tough. I went without reservations, which l'll never do again because the expected wait for 2 people was 1 hour. I got lucky when one of their reservations cancelled and I got seated in 10 mins.
Visit July 2026 Bougie breakfast time lol! Invited by some family members who like this place a lot. Consider me sold. Food: Beignets-fluffy, come out hot, though not evenly sugared. I watched the table carefully pick around this one lone barely sugared piece. Ngl, I like the ones at Disneyland better. Both me and a daughter ordered the Chunky Avocado Toast with a poached egg, we both felt that the toast was a little tough. Good avocado spread and the egg oozed well. I tried their house hot sauce with it but wasn't too impressed with it. I also ordered a side of the House Potatoes. These were awesome. Crisp outside but not over done , well seasoned. Totally recommend. Wife ordered the Mushroom Chazuke. Mix of seasonal mushrooms. She liked it a lot. Tastes some of the mushrooms. Earthy but not overbearingly so. The wild rice and poached egg made for a pretty good mix. Other daughter got the Curry Hamburg. She likes her curry, especially Japanese curry. While she did not get transported to Tokyo she did give it a thumbs up. This place is pretty busy and I was fairly impressed with the attentiveness of our waitress. Waters kept full which was handy as it was a bit hot and my car was a good walk away. Would like to visit again and try other menu items.
Amazing! This is a very dog friendly restaurant! Dogs can sit inside. The food is really good. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and curry hamburg. The crispy chicken was moist and crispy! The curry Hamburg is so good! Portions are big too. Definitely returning try the mushroom dish!
Really cute brunch place in North Park. I got the Pomelo salad to share and curry hamburg. Salad was refreshing. I enjoyed the curry hamburg, and it was a big portion that filled me up quick. We also shared the beignets and it came with black sesame/matcha dip. They were light and fluffy and paired well with the dips. Best eaten fresh as they cool down pretty quick. For drinks, I got the Matcha Tiramisu Latte and Matcha Yuzu Mimosa. The latte was more matcha. I didn't really taste any tiramisu in my drink, but the matcha was good. It definitely is on the low sweet. The mimosa was good as well. At first, wasn't sure if the flavor would pair well as a mimosa, but it was good! The matcha and yuzu blend well. Someone else had a yuzu mimosa, but it too sour for my taste. The yuzu with the matcha definitely helps reduce the citrus sour taste. Service was friendly and fast. Since it was a busy Sunday, they already explained in advance that food might take longer to come out, but it didn't feel very long. When I went, we had a live musician playing. Personally for me, it was a bit loud, so it was hard to hear everyone at my table. But, Im sure other people appreciated and enjoyed the live music. I just prefer quieter environments, and that's my personal taste. I would be willing to come back for a special occasion again.
Cute spot! Came on a Fri for lunch at 11:30. We had made reservations but we probably could have gotten seated right away even though the place was decently busy. The space is also much larger than I thought it'd be. They have tables for larger groups and smaller two person tables. I got the simple toast and made it "extraordinary" (matcha cream and berries). Also added a side of chicken patties. My friend got the burger and beignets. The toast was delicious!! It's a housemade shokupan that was perfectly fluffy and had a nice buttery taste. The matcha cream was really light and the berries were good. The chicken patties you could tell we're homemade and had a light sweetness to them. Very good. I think the only downside was the beignets. If you've had them in new Orleans these were a sad comparison. The dough didn't have that much flavor and the inside texture was light but the outside was a dry, crusty texture. The matcha and black sesame dip it came with was nice though. Service was a little haphazard but friendly. I'd come back and try out some other items.

A hidden gem for amazing Asian fusion brunch in San Diego!! We went for a girls lunch and had a fantastic time! Everything was so delicious, we ordered the Curry Hamburg, Duck and Waffle, and Steak and Eggs. The curry was piping hot with a slight kick, excellent pairing with the tornado egg and rice. The steak and eggs came with some AMAZINGLY fried crispy potatoes and the steak was perfectly medium rare with a garlic dressing. We also ordered the Beignets and the Shokupan toast with Matcha cream to share. Such delightful, fluffy offerings! Service was great and the interior is spacious but busy. The owners of the Thai eatery across the street at this North Park intersection on 30th St have opened a farm-to-table gastropub that has replaced a longtime local brewing company. Between Us made its debut earlier this summer, and judging by the long wait during my recent weekend visit, the buzz and interest in this place remain strong. I don't know if this happens frequently, but there was a flower kiosk set up on the corner in front of the structure. It obscured the hostess stand and didn't do anything except create congestion. I was fortunate that a space opened up at the bar fairly quickly after my name was added to the waitlist. The tap system from the previous business was retained so that a nice variety of brews was available. I ordered a Yuzu-Ade for a beverage. It was yuzu juice mixed with still or sparkling water. I chose the former with light ice. The drink tasted like a light lemonade. The food menu had typical brunch offerings but also some Asian-influenced items like the US Fried Rice. My pick was the Curry Hamburg which seemed to be popular based on how many times I saw waitstaff bring it out from the kitchen. A house-made beef patty was served with Japanese brown curry, tornado eggs, mushroom rice, and a dollop of whipped ricotta with chives on top. The curry was mildly spicy, but the entire dish was very hearty and satisfying. I could have used more rice to sop up the curry, however that's nitpicking. The service was okay as the bartender came by periodically to check how I was doing. I am not sure I would wait an hour in line for a seat as there are plenty of brunch spots in this neighborhood. Really great service by the young man who gave great recommendations. They are dog friendly- but only for the best behaved. The savory Beignets were amazing - the mushroom/truffle dip was spot on! So glad I got to try this place finally! Came on a Saturday around 11am with a party of 3 and got seated fairly quickly. Ordered the salted maple matcha latte for a drink- I would not recommend the matcha here, it was $9 for a really small glass with mostly ice and milk. It didn't taste that great unfortunately :( BUT their saving grace is the food- the Latke Egg Benedict was amazing, loved that it had a lemon/sour flavor to it, all the flavors went together really nicely. I also loved that it was on a bed of really crispy potatoes instead of bread. Also had to get the beignets and those were amazing especially with the black sesame dip. Service was also really friendly here and I love the vibe inside. Parking sucks because it's in north park, but ambiance of the place is super cute. Would def come back but just not order a drink next time! read more
We had a group of four line up right before 9 AM on Mother's Day for Sunday breakfast/brunch. After doors opened we got sat fairly quickly. Our sever took our drink orders and appetizers a few minutes after we sat and had a chance to go over the menu. The food was delicious. Fresh, bold and unique. Every dish had it's own personality. The fried mushrooms with chili crisp was the standout dish. Our group all agreed it was fantastic! Even our friend who is not fond of mushrooms agreed! The matchas were delicious and especially matcha-y. The color was vibrant and I can tell they did not skimp on matcha powder. The only hiccup was that my entree (shared with my friend) took a very long time to arrive. Which was strange because it was a salad harvest bowl with fish protein. We were a little pressed for time since we were getting picked up for Mexico soon. We decided to cancel the order. The sever was well versed on service recovery. Not only did she remove the charge, she packed the bowl to go and offered us complimentary dessert. It was a berry panna cotta and it was superb. All and all it was a great start to Mother's Day. Came here for brunch and it wasn't too busy earlier in the morning for a weekend. Very aesthetically-pleasing. There's outdoor seating so you can bring your dog if you want. I really enjoyed the food. It can be really difficult to be innovate with brunch since there are so many classics but I really liked how creative the food was. I got the mushroom chazuke (delicious!!) and latke eggs benedict which was quite good as well. Portions were on the smaller side for the price; I will let it go this time since the dishes were so good. Service was fantastic. The only downside is parking. Similar to everywhere else in North Park, parking will be difficult. Be sure to account for it when making plans. read more

Came here on a date with my bf on our day off for veterans day n had a lovely time! The staff were friendly and ambience was nice. It was quite busy and popular! For food, we ordered the beignets, curry hamburg rice, and shakshuka. The beignets came out first and were nice, warm, and fluffy! For the curry hamburg, we were actually pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the curry! We were worried it would just taste like generic box curry but it was more flavorful than that. The hamburg patty could have been a lil less dry though but flavor wise it was tasty. The shakshuka was tasty too and a big hit for my bf, but personally was a lil too fishy n creamy for my usual taste~ Also, I HIGHLY recommend the regular matcha latte. I felt like it was using good quality matcha, but beware it's not very sweetened! I would definitely come here again! So curious to try other dishes~ read more
Between Us is probably my new favorite brunch spot! I would assume it gets busy during the weekends, but it was quiet during the week. The space was open and welcoming. I had read that it's owned by the same folks that run Thai Time across the street -- and you can taste a little bit of Thai influence! We started with a hot hojicha latte and ice hojicha latte with house strawberry syrup. Loved the hojicha latte, but we had to ask for the hot one to be made because it was barely lukewarm. The food overall was delicious, and the portions were very generous. I really enjoyed the "U.S" fried rice, which is a nostalgic Thai dish (which may have been created during war times, influenced by American ingredients). I used to order this dish all the time growing up in Bangkok, so it was so fun seeing it on the menu. And the tornado eggs were the perfect topping. The highlight of the meal was the beignets. I don't know if they're considered traditional beignets because they are reminiscent of Thai-style Chinese donuts (aka patongko). They were light and lovely with the black sesame and matcha creams. Their menu is huge, so can't wait to go back and try their other items! read more
Checked out Between Us for brunch on a Sunday morning! Nestled in the heart of North Park, this brunch spot is within walking distance of so many other SD gems, making it a great location for breakfast/brunch. We were seated pretty quickly upon arrival and service was very fast and friendly. Servers were attentive and food came out pretty quickly. It is beautifully decorated and offers a unique menu! We enjoyed our meal, however, we did feel that some items lacked some flavor and didn't quite fit our taste. The prices are also on the pricier end for brunch, so also keep that in mind! We ordered the: - Mushroom Chazuke (4/5) loaded with mushrooms, full of umami flavor, and very comforting! i also added a poached egg but i dont think it was necessary as it didn't add much to the bite. however, i did wish there was a veggie in this dish! a stem of broccolini or some bok choy would've made this dish unforgettable. - Duck and Waffle (3.5/5) duck was tender and the chili topping was so so flavorful! however the guava sauce was not our favorite as it was quite tart. - Matcha Tiramisu Latte (2.5/5) matcha flavor was there but the tiramisu flavor was lacking. the cream did not have much flavor besides tasting like heavy cream and the drink itself was not very sweetened at all. i asked for some more sweetener; i was given some packets of sugar which helped but i didn't love the drink :/ - Black Sesame Latte w Hojicha (2/5) the shot of hojicha tea (which was an extra $2) did not add any hojicha flavor to this drink! if you like black sesame milk then i would suggest sticking to the regular black sesame latte. - Beignets (5/5) best bite of the bunch! they came out fresh, hot, and fluffy. the black sesame and matcha dips were also very delicious and paired well with the warm beignets read more

We've been here twice now. Cool spot for breakfast. Come early, this place can get busy pretty quickly. We've had great friendly service both times. What we ordered; Matcha Latte Tiramisu - this was good, I loved it Iced Black Sesame Latte - this was weird to me. Very sesame Beignets - this is a must try. So good. Love the black sesame and green tea dips for it Curry Hamburg - bf got this. He loved it. Had a good spice and pretty good portion Duck & Waffle - duck was a little over cooked for me. It was good to try Cookie Crunch French Toast - bf loved There are still more things we want to try here so we will be back. read more

What I ordered | steak & eggs. | beignets | matcha Tiramisu | latke egg Benny | shakshuka | duck & waffle Taste | all the dishes were good. favorites were steak, Benny, and the duck. Beignets black sesame cream was good. The shakshuka was surprisingly good and very flavorful with the fish. The duck was also good. The guava sauce is a bit too sweet for me as I'm not a big syrup person. This spot kept popping up on my IG and it started to look like instagram-able dishes. I was worried that it would be all looks with no taste. Thankfully, I was proved wrong. What I love most is that if it details a specific flavor, you're going to taste it. Like the yuzu hollandaise or the sesame mascarpone, you get a lot of yuzu or black sesame. The flavor is there. Drinks: Matcha Tiramisu Latte - not too sweet which you know is the compliment. The cream helps lighten the bitterness from the matcha and it's a well balanced drink. Black Sesame Latte - this is not sweet. If you're not a fan of black sesame, you won't like this. We also added a shot of matcha which made it a little bit bitter. However, the drink was still tasty. I would probably skip this the next time. Food: We ordered three dishes & one starter to share family style between the three of us. It was the perfect amount of food. Beignets - if you like beignets, get these. Light fried dough with very flavorful side sauces. I would order this again. Shakshuka - my favorite dish. The flavors are different from your typical shakshuka in the best way. The fish today was delicious and I wanted to lick the sauce off the plate. Would order this again. Curry Hamburg - big bold flavors. Felt like we were back in Hawaii eating breakfast. I personally could have used less salt. I would order this dish to share. I think this would be a lot to eat for one person. Latke Egg Benedict - a well done Benedict with a really good latke base. The yuzu hollandaise was really fresh and bright. If you want a lighter brunch dish, this is it. Happy I tried it, but I would forgo this next time so I could try something new. Service was great. Our waitress helped us pick out what to order with her recommendations and she checked on us throughout our meal without being overbearing. They take reservations over the phone. They will only sit you if your whole party is present. Parking is self explanatory as it is in north park so just prepare to circle during prime hours. this is an amazing spot to try in San Diego. I would suggest going early and making a reservation, as a there were some items that were already sold out. what we got: beignets (10000/10 yums): honestly even better than the ones from disneyland. they were super well fried and soft, and the matcha and sesame cream was a really nice touch to them. matcha latte (1000/10 yums): very good matcha latte. i could tell they use a good quality matcha. beef sando (100/10 yums): made on focaccia bread, this beef sandwich is not like your typical beef sandwiches. this was what my bf got and he liked it s lot! u.s. fried rice (10000/10 yums): this was AMAZING. portion was HUGE, but what a good take on the classic japanese tomato rice. the fried chicken on the side was not dry at all and the egg on top had a great texture to it. the rice itself was pretty wet but had a lot of flavor. would order again read more
Celebrated our dear friend's bday. First time here. Ambiance has this relax feeling about it . Great place for meeting friends. Place can accommodate large parties aswell. Service was excellent, Ask for Nott. Our orders came out pretty fast. We ordered the Beignets and we all ordered the mushroom chazuke. And yes, that extra mushroom ( sooo good). There was an issue with the beignets, sad that we did not get to try it. Brought up the concern with Nott. He was very apologetic and thankful. Something was wrong with where the beignets gets cooked. Nott even gave us credit to use for our next visit . The place got busy pretty quick. But even with that, Nott kept on checking on us. My daughter found Between Us on social media. It is located in North Park and parking is street or paid. It took a bit but we found free street parking. We were seated right away. The inside is much bigger than we expected and it also had open parts for fresh air. There is bar seating as well as tables. All the staff was very friendly. We ordered the Banana Bread, Granola Bowl & House Potaotes. Everything on the menu sounds so good! We saw that a lot of people ordered beignets too. Our food was brought out pretty quickly and it all looked so good, the granola bowl had a lot of fresh fruit. The potatoes were the best! Crispy on the outside, soft inside and perfectly seasoned. The presentation of the banana bread was so pretty! The texture of the bread was perfect and the edges had a light crisp. The cream cheese went well with the bread - not too sweet. The coffee syrup added that extra touch of flavor and it was topped with a thin slice of crispy banana. Staff checked on us often. Next time we come to SD we will come back and try some beignets and more food items! read more
Got the Hojicha latte and it seemed a bit too diluted in flavor. The mushroom chazuke had very good mushrooms but seemed like some of the rice wasn't fully cooked. The curry Hamburg would have been perfect if the beef patty wasn't overcooked and so tough. The beignets were tasty. Service was nice but honestly not attentive. 4 of us waited an hour for our food. That's too slow especially for the quality of food we got waiting that long. read more
We ordered the beignets, curry hamburg, and mushroom chazuke. They tasted good but there were some aspects that could be improved. My husband noticed some of the rice in the mushroom chazuke didn't seem fully cooked while the hamburg patty was a little overdone and tough. I also ordered the matcha latte tiramisu with oat milk which wasn't too sweet but the cream did start to overpower the matcha flavor a little as I mixed it in. Service was pretty slow - it took almost an hour for us to get our food and the server had also spilled some of a drink over our table and also dropped a knife into someone in our party's lap. Honest mistake and it happens! But maybe there could be a bit more training in the overall quality of service. The interior is really nice and they decorated it for Christmas which was a really nice touch! It's a nice environment to sit in especially with a group. Mainly street parking around the north park neighborhood. We were able to make a reservation for 4 on the phone a few days in advance so I would recommend doing so to minimize the wait. Overall I think this place is nice and has a lot of potential and I enjoyed it but I think there are some aspects that could be refined to enhance the quality. read more

Came here on a whim with my sister-in-law on a Saturday morning (10a). We expected a line, but to my surprise, there wasn't one. We opted for the bar to avoid waiting, and it was a great choice. The food was served quick. I ordered the mushroom toast and matcha tiramisu, and would 100% order it again! I appreciated the airy ambiance. The aesthetic gave a mid century modern x industrial vibe. I felt relaxed enough to take a breather mid-meal and chat with my SIL before finishing my food. The staff were friendly, and even nearing noon, the service was quick and attentive. Between Us is a unique Asian-inspired brunch spot right in the heart of North Park. To get here, street parking will be your best bet and there is a ton of it all around the area. Wifey and I stopped around 11am and there was about a 10 minute wait. Inside, they have a spacious and modern interior with a good amount of seating. For their menu, they have a unique selection of appetizers, entrees, and drinks to choose from. Wifey got the U.S. Fried Rice, I got the Duck & Waffle, and we got the Simple Toast (Extraordinary Style) to share. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and the unique flavor profiles they offer. All of the staff are very friendly and attentive. Came here for brunch. Located on the corner of the block. Got lucky and parked right in front of it. There is side street parking too. Loved the menu items. There was a dj playing music for some entertainment. It's a pretty spacious restaurant. Servers were nice and greeted us warmly. I order the duck and waffle, it was the perfect portion for me. The passionfruit syrup was a nice touch. Paired it with a tiramisu matcha drink which is topped off with a cookie for dipping if you prefer. Loved using their house chili sauce with the meat, very flavorful and they sell the sauce in jars. Would love to try the rest of the menu items. It's nice, family owned and the decor is nice. Server was kind, a touch busy but she was cool. Food here is unique and slightly off. Portions are in charge but it's missing quality and authenticity. Our food was also a touch cold, barely room temperature. I got the latke Benedict. Again large but the latke had that specific flavor profile but was covered in maybe Costco quality salmon and a giant pile of lettuce which I removed. Loved the hollandaise though. Wife got avocado toast. Again smothered in lettuce. They really like to cover everything in produce to doll it up. Overall it's fine but it's not a destination spot. There are a lot of turn and burn restaurants in north park. Even Lucha Libra left. This spot maybe has 2-3 years then it may go missing. read more

Came here for lunch on a weekend. It's a busy place during brunch/lunch so I recommend making a reservation or calling ahead to get on the waitlist. The parking is awful since it's street parking but this place was well worth the hassle lol. We ordered the matcha tiramisu and pumpkin spice hojicha for our drinks and both were really good! I could taste all the flavors and it wasn't too sweet. For food: Curry Hamburg: flavor was pretty good! It's a bit bold with the pepper flavor but it's great. I really enjoyed the tornado egg on it. Shakshuka:10/10 I would come back just for this dish. The serving size was decent and we ran out of focaccia and they were nice enough to give us some extra focaccia with no extra charge! Beignet: the beignets were really tasty as well. Very airy and soft on the inside. It went really well with the black sesame and matcha dip. The service was really great! Worth the try: beignets, mushroom chazuke Beignets ($11): deep fried pastry with with powdered sugar, black sesame mascarpone and matcha cream. Light, fluffy, and crisp perfection. Dare I say, better than Disneyland? These were an absolute treat and not too sweet. Definitely order them if they're available! Comes in 4 pieces. Mushroom Chazuke ($19): seasonal mushrooms (maitake, shiitake, king trumpet) with koshihikari (Japanese short-grained) rice, served with mushroom dashi, perilla seed, garlic chips, and chives. This dish blew me away--the textures and flavors blend together perfectly, and the crispiness of the garnishes still come through with the dashi. Tons of umami! Shakshuka ($24): Catch of the day fish (we had salmon) in tomato-chili sauce with Boursin cheese, fennel, egg, and broccolini, served with house-baked foccacia. This was probably the best shakshuka I've ever had. The tomato flavors balance well with the fish, nothing's too acidic or salty. And even though there's a lot going on, everything comes together harmoniously. I personally hardly reach for shakshuka but this dish kept me wanting more. SERVICE: Came for a weekday lunch, so there were only a few groups, but the servers were kind and attentive. ATMOSPHERE: Cute shop in the heart of North Park. Great spot during a sunny day. PARKING: Limited street parking available nearby. My friend and I were looking for a nearby lunch spot and decided to check out Between Us. I'm glad we did because everything we had was DELICIOUS. They are doing fusion right because every dish we had blended their flavors perfectly. Would definitely recommend trying this place out. Right from the start, the staff were all so friendly and accommodating for my friend, her baby and I! The big windows may be bright, but the staff were so considerate to move the big umbrellas for us to give us some shade near the windows. Even when the food came, the staff offered us fly propellers to shoo away the flies that come through the window, which was so thoughtful. They really care about the customer experience which was wonderful. The menu has endless delicious brunch options and it was so hard to choose! I ended up with the French Omelette that has LUMP CRAB and it was delicious!! It has a little kick so no additional sauces were needed, it was perfect! My friend got the US fried rice, which had bacon, sausages, and what seemed like a katsu chicken slab which was so good!! Went here for a girls' brunch and absolutely loved the experience! The ambience is casual but super cute and cozy inside -- perfect for a relaxed weekend catch-up. I got the tiramisu latte, which was really nice and not overly sweet. Three of us ordered the breakfast tartine, and it was delicious -- the bacon was amazing and the bread was perfectly fluffy. One of my friends got the curry Hamburg and said it was very tasty and flavorful. Very cool fusion blend of japanese meets brunch! The flavor profiles are very well done with quality ingredients and all the dishes we tried were spectacular! Between us is located in north park so, north park parking. Otherwise the location does get kind of busy, we were lucky to get seats. We came around 11ish on a Saturday. Food wise I got a hot matcha. Matcha was pretty good and had that earthy tone to it. My friend got a yuzu-ade(be sure to stir) I got a two egg classic breakfast. Loved that they piled tones of greens. A cookie cruch French toast to share. Couldn't really taste the cookie crunch but the lemon curd on it was the show. And my pal got a latke egg Benedict that was sooo goood. Came in on a Friday morning and got seated right away. If you come after 11:30 am, there can be a wait. Here's what we ordered: Food - * Beignets * Cornbread & Co (this includes fried chicken) * Breakfast Tartine * Mushroom Chazuke * Shakshuka Drinks - * Iced Matcha Latte Tiramisu * Iced Matcha with strawberry Get those beignets. Heck, get two orders if you can. Everything came out quick and was delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes. The matcha drinks were good. They weren't overly sweet and you can taste the matcha. Minus a star, for the server. Not sure if she was feeling overwhelmed but also it's not professional to be rolling your eyes when taking orders. Same experience with the table next to ours. went on a friday morning and it wasnt too busy. interior is cute, the place is bigger than you think it is! street parking only outside -mushroom toast (3/5): flavor wasnt bad, i think i wouldve preferred the mushrooms to be in smaller pieces to make it easier to eat -tried some of my friends curry hamburg which was really good, it had great flavor! also tried some of my friends shakshuka but i feel like it wasnt tomato-y enough, likely due to the fish flavor overall a cute brunch spot. food was decent and would be open to coming back to try some of their other items read more
