The owners of the Thai eatery across the street at this North Park intersection on 30th St have opened a farm-to-table gastropub that has replaced a longtime local brewing company. Between Us made its debut earlier this summer, and judging by the long wait during my recent weekend visit, the buzz and interest in this place remain strong. I don't know if this happens frequently, but there was a flower kiosk set up on the corner in front of the structure. It obscured the hostess stand and didn't do anything except create congestion. I was fortunate that a space opened up at the bar fairly quickly after my name was added to the waitlist. The tap system from the previous business was retained so that a nice variety of brews was available. I ordered a Yuzu-Ade for a beverage. It was yuzu juice mixed with still or sparkling water. I chose the former with light ice. The drink tasted like a light lemonade. The food menu had typical brunch offerings but also some Asian-influenced items like the US Fried Rice. My pick was the Curry Hamburg which seemed to be popular based on how many times I saw waitstaff bring it out from the kitchen. A house-made beef patty was served with Japanese brown curry, tornado eggs, mushroom rice, and a dollop of whipped ricotta with chives on top. The curry was mildly spicy, but the entire dish was very hearty and satisfying. I could have used more rice to sop up the curry, however that's nitpicking. The service was okay as the bartender came by periodically to check how I was doing. I am not sure I would wait an hour in line for a seat as there are plenty of brunch spots in this neighborhood. Came here for brunch and it wasn't too busy earlier in the morning for a weekend. Very aesthetically-pleasing. There's outdoor seating so you can bring your dog if you want. I really enjoyed the food. It can be really difficult to be innovate with brunch since there are so many classics but I really liked how creative the food was. I got the mushroom chazuke (delicious!!) and latke eggs benedict which was quite good as well. Portions were on the smaller side for the price; I will let it go this time since the dishes were so good. Service was fantastic. The only downside is parking. This place was great no wait when I came in on a Tuesday afternoon. Street parking was easy to find. Was seated right away. Place was clean and had windows that opened up onto the street which is perfect for a sunny day. Ordered the beignets, a hojicha, and the curry hamburg. The beignets were small, pillowy, soft and came with matcha and sesame sauces to dip in. Hamburg steak was delicious and filling not overwhelming or too salty. Came here on a date with my bf on our day off for veterans day n had a lovely time! The staff were friendly and ambience was nice. It was quite busy and popular! For food, we ordered the beignets, curry hamburg rice, and shakshuka. The beignets came out first and were nice, warm, and fluffy! For the curry hamburg, we were actually pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the curry! We were worried it would just taste like generic box curry but it was more flavorful than that. The hamburg patty could have been a lil less dry though but flavor wise it was tasty. Between Us is probably my new favorite brunch spot! I would assume it gets busy during the weekends, but it was quiet during the week. The space was open and welcoming. I had read that it's owned by the same folks that run Thai Time across the street -- and you can taste a little bit of Thai influence! We started with a hot hojicha latte and ice hojicha latte with house strawberry syrup. Loved the hojicha latte, but we had to ask for the hot one to be made because it was barely lukewarm. The food overall was delicious, and the portions were very generous. I really enjoyed the "U.S" fried rice, which is a nostalgic Thai dish (which may have been created during war times, influenced by American ingredients). I used to order this dish all the time growing up in Bangkok, so it was so fun seeing it on the menu. And the tornado eggs were the perfect topping. The highlight of the meal was the beignets. I don't know if they're considered traditional beignets because they are reminiscent of Thai-style Chinese donuts (aka patongko). They were light and lovely with the black sesame and matcha creams. My husband noticed some of the rice in the mushroom chazuke didn't seem fully cooked while the hamburg patty was a little overdone and tough. I also ordered the matcha latte tiramisu with oat milk which wasn't too sweet but the cream did start to overpower the matcha flavor a little as I mixed it in. Service was pretty slow - it took almost an hour for us to get our food and the server had also spilled some of a drink over our table and also dropped a knife into someone in our party's lap. Honest mistake and it happens! But maybe there could be a bit more training in the overall quality of service. The interior is really nice and they decorated it for Christmas which was a really nice touch! It's a nice environment to sit in especially with a group. Beignets - if you like beignets, get these. Light fried dough with very flavorful side sauces. I would order this again. Shakshuka - my favorite dish. I was so intrigued by their water filtration system, the water tasted so good and I am always weary about still water at restaurants. I ordered an iced matcha and potato latke Benedict. I loved the mushroom chazuke dish and the halibut was a bonus on top. Every spoonful was flavorful, lots of different texture, and it felt cozy. Fish was flaky and paired well with the rice. The toast, that came with the steak and eggs, had a side of berry jam and butter which was an incredible pairing. My husband enjoyed his steak and eggs. The cornbread and co were pretty good too. The crispy layer on the fried chicken was perfect, not greasy at all and so much flavor between the fried skin and the juicy meat. I enjoyed the combo of the cornbread and the chicken. I didn't care for the matcha tiramisu latte or the beignets. The sauce for the beignets were good but the beignets, itself, is not comparable to a couple of other places. They fell flat for me. Prices are a little on the steep side so this would be a special occasion for me since I'm not typically big on breakfast. Mushroom Chazuke ($19): seasonal mushrooms (maitake, shiitake, king trumpet) with koshihikari (Japanese short-grained) rice, served with mushroom dashi, perilla seed, garlic chips, and chives. This dish blew me away--the textures and flavors blend together perfectly, and the crispiness of the garnishes still come through with the dashi. Tons of umami! Shakshuka ($24): Catch of the day fish (we had salmon) in tomato-chili sauce with Boursin cheese, fennel, egg, and broccolini, served with house-baked foccacia. This was probably the best shakshuka I've ever had. The tomato flavors balance well with the fish, nothing's too acidic or salty. And even though there's a lot going on, everything comes together harmoniously. I personally hardly reach for shakshuka but this dish kept me wanting more. The big windows may be bright, but the staff were so considerate to move the big umbrellas for us to give us some shade near the windows. What an amazing spot! My family had a reservation for 7 people and were immediately seated when we arrived. The atmosphere and services were fantastic. I ordered a strawberry matcha. The strawberry syrup was very fresh and bright. The drink was not sweet enough for my liking but still yummy. The beignets were fluffy and light. The sesame and matcha dipping sides complimented them perfectly. I ordered the pancakes with blueberries. The pancakes were fluffy and the toppings were fresh and tasty. Let me just say wow. This restaurant is asian owned I believe and it definitely gives that energy. I've always thought that restaurants are so much better, beautiful, and curated when I visit Asian countries and it felt like I walked into another world when I visited Between Us for the first time. I've gone twice in one month because I had to show more of my friends how delightful it is, which says a lot because I don't often try the same restaurant twice. We listened to the server's recommendation and tried the shakshuka and the curry hamburg. This was the first time in a while that the food was so good that my friend and I made eye contact after the first bites and had to stop talking entirely. Our eyes got so big and we just started laughing! The flavors are so rich and you can tell that care was placed into every piece of the dish. In the curry hamburg, there was ricotta cheese (I think) that paired so nicely with the umami flavor of the curry. The shakshuka came with fish (which I normally stray away from) but it was incredibly soft and crumbled in the rich, salty broth! The two sourdough (?) sticks that came dipped in the broth were somehow crisp and soft even after soaking in the broth for 30 minutes! In the second visit, we ordered the shakshuka (again), mushroom chazuke and the beignets. The chazuke was my friend's favorite because it had a delightfully rich but also thin broth. It had a strong, umami flavor, and came with roasted garlic slices, which my friend and I both loved. The shakshuka had absolutely no notes, it was delicious again! The beignets were incredibly airy and bouncy. I see why everyone raves about them! Definitely order it as a dessert or a side if only ordering drinks. The iced matcha latte was good but not exceptional. I would say it needs a little more matcha, but it was absolutely smooth and not grainy, which I appreciate. It was a good color-- not the fake, light green cafe matcha. If you are a matcha connoisseur, I would recommend getting the strawberry or mango fruit jelly to pair with the drink. My friend got the strawberry iced hojicha latte, which she absolutely loved. The flavor was strong and roasted to perfection. It can be pricey for breakfast but all the brunch spots are getting expensive nowadays so might as well get amazing amazing quality! Try it out, you won't be disappointed read more

This gem of a restaurant is located in North park at the corner of Polk and 30th. My wife found this place and wanted to try the Beignets. Parking is extremely difficult as there mainly street parking. We had to order take out because of the lack of parking. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. There is plenty of seating inside without any outside dining. My wife got the French toast and Mushroom chazuke since they ran out of beignets by noon. We absolutely loved the broth and the mushroom rice for the chazuke. It was an Umami flavor bomb in your mouth. The toast was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The butter syrup was savory and sweet and the fruit was fresh. The lemon sauce was tangy and sweet. While everything was on the pricier side, the flavors were a slam dunk and definitely worth the price. I totally recommend this place! read more

I came in for brunch and was seated quickly even on a Sunday. It has a nice atmosphere and the decor definitely gives off more modern day vibes. We ordered beignets and fried maitake. The only time I've had beignets were at Disneyland and comparing this restaurants to that, I prefer these ones over Disney's. The black sesame and matcha cream that came on the side was pretty good too. I was a huge fan of the fried maitake and thought it was seasoned well. The texture had a nice crispness to it and there was just enough kick to not overwhelm you with spice. I would definitely come back to try other things on their menu. read more
