We purchased our Regency gas insert from Berkeley Heat some time ago, maybe pre-Yelp... The experience was great, they had an installation referral that felt like he was in-house. We had service once, which was easy to coordinate. We still use the fireplace just about every day from Nov-Feb. I dropped by today fully intending to buy a new remote because ours was flakey. They took one look at it, the battery connector was bent-in a little from so many years. It was an easy fix. I wish I would have grabbed the guy's name. He was so gracious, bending the tabs back. The ease of which he handled my simple issue in such a pleasant way left me smiling and reminded me what a great experience working with them has been. Short version: they connected me to their preferred installer, sold me a Regency unit bigger than what another vendor was willing to install, and the final result is beautiful and effective. Longer version: I actually started out working with another store (Penguin in San Jose) who did a truly spectacular job replacing an old wood burning fireplace with a Mendota gas insert, in another house. The other store was willing to give me a bid for our house in SF. Due to the existing natural stone opening being small vertically, they would only propose installing a Regency Gi25LE which is a beautiful insert but also super tiny. To get an idea what it looked like, I visited Berkeley Heat in person, and to my surprise they told me they could install the significantly larger Gi29LE by having their installer cut open the existing natural stone surround and modifying the existing zero clearance firebox. There was some back and forth with their installer; I also wanted to do this with permit and decided to have my own electrician do the electrical, and my own plumber install the gas line with a permit. (Their installer was not familiar with permitting in SF.) It took a couple months all told - and I had to do the follow-ups by phone to ensure we stayed on schedule - but the final result is fantastic. See photos I am adding. read more

Just bought a Regency gas insert for my existing fireplace from Berkeley Heat. I browsed the showroom then went home with a catalogue. After visiting Kidd Fireplace I decided to order from here, was able to do it over the phone which was chill and straightforward. They referred me to Moises to schedule the installation. Moises came out to do measurements and provided an estimate. He and his team was a pleasure to work with. His usual plumber was unavailable but he worked directly with a plumber I brought out to move my gas line and they were able to sync up and do the work on the same day. Super convenient for me! Based on reading reviews of fireplace sellers, the pandemic was awful for wait times. Berkeley Heat had the model I wanted in stock so it was a really smooth process for me. We have spent close to $20,000 at this shop and the customer service here in addressing an air issue in our Caldera Makena tub since they installed the Ozone September 2019 has gone unanswered in the almost 5yrs since it was installed! In my attempts today to have this looked at, I was hung up on! Horrible Customer service! Their repair guy Jose is independent but they rely on him to address warranty issues and he so far has not gotten back to us with an inspection date in a 24hr period despite speaking with him in person and texting him my info. I will update this review with the name of the guy who hung up on me, this behavior is unconscionable! Avoid this place like the plague! read more

We had an excellent experience with Berkeley Heat. They helped us choose the right small tub for our location, and didn't try and upsell us on features we didn't want. The ordering, delivery and installation process was also quite seamless. We knew the tub we wanted was a little bit backlogged (not their fault) and they kept us up to date on the progress of the order. Once installed, they've also been good with addressing some small maintenance issues that have come up. In other words, they don't just sell you the tub and then cut you loose. Thanks to Darrian's perseverance and patience, our fireplace was installed this month. It replaced a corner built-in, outdated fireplace that was demo'd. I'm going to bump my 1-star to 3-stars b/c these folks reached out and genuinely tried to reconcile. I've already gotten service so it's water under the bridge. My suggestion to the gentleman who called me was that service should never be on the customer to coordinate. A 4 or 5 star place does 4 or 5 star follow up- be the point of contact for all of your customers' needs. Anyway, at least these folks take pride and want to do better. We purchased a fire place and never received a callback or email regarding its arrival, several weeks later when I called to check on my order I was told it would arrive on Monday. They said at the time they would contact Fernando the installer and he would make arrangements to install the unit.Two more weeks later on a Friday I call and tell them I will be there Saturday morning to pick it up and within 5 minutes my phone rings, it's Fernando telling me he can install it Monday, I said that sounds good. Saturday I show up, we load the unit up and the inform me 2 key components are missing from my order ‍ was told Fernando would pick them up and contact me , never happened. I call them back two weeks later to be informed the items are available , so I text Fernando to ask if he would like me to pick up the items and to please give me an install date.
