Bought and had this company install carpet in my dining room 10 years ago. Furniture was clear except one cheap shelf from target that I could not remove because I just had hip surgery. I paid extra to have it moved and tipped in cash. Carpet needs to be professionally cleaned and guess what we found... They never moved the shelf. They just cut the carpet around it. Total garbage! 7 years ago I purchased carpet from Straus Carpets and I loved the carpet and was very happy with the overall experience. So, a few months ago when I needed new carpet due to a flood, I ordered carpet again from Straus. Unfortunately, when the installers arrived, there was a problem with the carpet. I want to emphasize that this was a manufacturing issue and not the fault of the store, the delivery or the installers, nor could they have known about the issue before delivery. Tom Straus went to great lengths and considerable expense to resolve the problem for me and to ensure that I was happy, which I am. I loved the retro kitchen linoleum that came with my house, but I had a water leak that said it was time to replace. I had very specific requirements - something in the same deep red color as the old flooring and that would cove up the walls to match the retro look. I tried a lot of places and no one had the right material or could do the work. Enter Tom Straus with a a lot of great options and ideas. I ended up with marmoleum in the exact color I wanted and that looks terrific in my kitchen. Installation was exceptional. Straus is a well-run, customer-friendly business with an utterly deluxe, good-old-fashioned approach to customer service. I needed a to replace a raggedy master bedroom carpet. Walked into Straus and was greeted by Liz, who pointed me to suitable samples. Ordered the carpet. After it was installed, we found that a long seam -- made necessary because the room is wider than normal carpet widths -- was highly visible, perhaps due in part to the way the sunlight hit it through a big window. Straus sent people, including Tom Straus himself, several times to smooth it out, but in the end the problem could not be solved. We then considered various carpet replacement options, but none was going to be wide enough. Tom's solution: No charge for the carpet or installation. Tom said, "If you're not happy, you owe us nothing." I protested, but he absolutely refused to accept even a partial payment. I am a Straus Carpets fan forever. read more

Straus installed the carpets in our gym about 3 years ago. I knew they were a high quality company but I don't think I knew just how high a caliber they are. We just opened up the back 2/3rds of our office to make space for our members to workout. It left a strip of raw floor about 7" wide and 7' long. I emailed Tom to see if they could patch it. In 2 days they were in and an hour later it was done. It's beautiful, you would never know it was added 3 years after the carpet was installed.
