Fur strawberries
MiMi K.

I purchased a strawberry shortcake for my friends. ALL the strawberries had fur on them. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. The box was taped and well secured. I did not notice until the next day. Let me say i have been a patron of Bergers since the 90's. I did not take the cake back the next day because we had already cut it and I KNOW the owner would not have been receptive. I have seen other people with issues. Needless to say 28.99 in the trash, I will NEVER patronize them again because the blatant disrespect, They HAD to have seen them strawberries when packaging it, I have receipts, literally.

Bergers

Bergers makes delicious cookies. So good they can also be used for display and ornaments. If you leave Santa a Bergers cookie than he will gift extra! I grew up being given one at a time. Now at 40 I order tins from them directly and attempt to NOT impale myself with their freshness. They ship nationwide. Each cookie is hand frosted!!!! No phony ingredients, all love!!!! Order a tin in a week you'll be like, what's an Oreo?

The Nutritional Facts is screaming "no, don't do it."

I've lived in Baltimore for 10 years and have never had a Berger Cookie. When a coworker mentioned how good they were I embarked on a mission to give them a try. Needless to say I wasn't a fan. For starters I want to say that Royal Farms sells Berger Cookies by the pack, so if you cant find the bakery just try Royal Farms. I ended up finding a pack of two in the candy aisle for $2.79. In my opinion two was more than enough. The cookie itself consist of a wafer topped with thick fudge icing. Personally I found the wafer tasteless and dry, like a sugar free shortbread cookie I would find in the diabetic aisle. On top of the cookie is a thick layer of fudge icing. While some people have spoken highly of the topping I personally hate it. In fact the icing resembles a bottle of Duncan Hines frosting. This is obviously not a good thing, since the fudge icing is supposed to be a special German recipe. It may have started that way in the beginning, but it is certainly not that way now. Despite the cookie being tasteless and the icing being gross it is not these things that lead me to leave a bad review. I understand that taste is subjective, so to each his own. Some may enjoy the taste. My issue is that these things are filled with sugar. I mean, in a very unhealthy way. Eating two cookies (just TWO cookies) will add 40g of sugar to your diet. In my opinion Berger Cookies are so not worth the hype. I can't believe I wasted a cheat day. {sigh}

The greatest cookie ever created. Take a big, soft cookie, then double its weight by adding a slathering of chocolate fudge. The slathering is done by hand as well, giving each berger cookie a unique look and cookie/fudge ratio. Anyone living in and around Baltimore is lucky enough to be able to swing into any Royal Farms or Giant and pick up a package. For those unfortunate souls in the DC area, I've included the list of places that carry the cookie. Rocklands Barbecue 2418 Wisconsin Ave., NW (202) 333-2558 Wagshal's Delicatessen 4855 Massachusetts Ave., NW (202) 363-5698 The Italian Store 3123 Lee Highway Arlington, VA (703) 528-6266 Rocklands Barbecue 25 S. Quaker Lane Alexandria, Va (703) 778-9663 Bradley Food and Beverage 6904 Arlington Rd. Bethesda, MD (301) 654-6966 Chevy Chase Supermarket 8531 Connecticut Ave. Chevy Chase, MD (301) 656-5133 Snider's Supermarket 1936 Seminary Rd. Silver Spring, MD (301) 589-3240 Better pick up some milk too. . .

Fudge-y goodness

Oh my. The chocolate icing on these cookies has the consistency of play doh, but only delicious, with its thick texture that is completely moldable between your fingertips as you attempt to scrape off the excess calories from these chocolate asphyxiated shortbread cookies to make you feel better about eating three in a row, even though you claim you are a "healthy eater". Even after one bite, these cookies will change your life. I swear.

After hearing rave reviews, I bought a box. They are awful. The cookie part is NOT shortbread and the chocolate tastes like wax.

Matcha crookie was so gluttonous, I'm glad they only do it on weekends otherwise I'd be getting this all the time. Their pineapple coconut croissant is so fresh (summertime pastry). It's within the Johns Hopkins college campus & a neighborhood, so parking is really horrible. I ended up parking in a non spot and putting my hazards on. It's a cute little, but spacious place located next to an airport building. It's on the corner and has a nice little outside seating area with about 5 tables. Inside is bigger than it looks and has a nice amount of seating as well. Since my time was limited, I didn't really get to explore the menu like I wanted, so I ordered a hazelnut latte and a ham & cheese croissant. Their croissants looked so good, I wanted one of each. They also had several toasts on their menu. I'll have to go back for sure! Th service was regular, you order, they tell you how much you owe and you pay. I got in my car and couldn't wait. My first bite was like a bite into heaven. Every bite was the same way, so delicious & delicate. I wish I had two. The latte was perfect, just the right amount of hazelnut. Kanom Cafe is a must try!

Arrived in the afternoon during a busy weekend and decided to take out for desserts. My first visit and was underwhelmed by the service received. Rushed and transactional. Packaging was very sloppy and my napoleons were shoved to the side, making the clear clamshells very messy when I arrived home. If only the desserts were saving grace, but was left disappointed as well. As others have mentioned, the pastries do not taste fresh. The ricotta cream in the original cannoli tasted warm and gritty, the shell was stale. I noticed these were sitting out. The puff pastry in the Napoleons were soggy. The cream puffs shell was stale and chocolate topping was super sweet, unfortunately these were far from heavenly. Maybe another day, Vaccaro.

The vibe inside was relaxing. We were here for a few hours enjoying our coffee, tea and desserts and it was a nice place to pass the time on a cold, freezing day. The thing that dropped the review was basically the coffee and desserts. The coffee was fine, but just your standard coffee that you'd find at any gas station. The cannoli was overly sweet and the cookies we ordered felt stale. Interestingly, they charge more for sit down desserts vs. takeout. The servers were very sweet to share that we could order takeout and not have to pay the extra fee. Finally, not sure why, but there was not a lot of heating inside the restaurant. We ate with our jackets on, which was fine. But found that to be a little odd. Nobody seemed to know why they couldn't get the heat on. When it's below freezing, it would be nice to escape the chill. Overall, it was a nice stop. My kids loved it. But it was not without some quirks.

I realized that their online ordering was actually quite easy and their pick up hours were a bit more accessible than I remember them being. I ordered my sourdough loaf online a few days in advance for a Thursday pick up. I stopped in around 3pm and the loaf was quickly wrapped up for me. I asked if it could be sliced like the white bread loaf can but I was informed that the classic sourdough loaf is too large to fit in the slicer. I also love the fact that they offer a pay what you can program and a pay it forward option. And judging by their fundraising for important causes, this is a business I will continue to support. For $7, I thought it was a great deal for such a large and beautiful loaf. It froze and reheated very well too so none of it went bad. I wish I could try more of the menu but I should probably play it safe. If you're gluten intolerant and tend to be able to tolerate sourdough, I definitely recommend giving their classic loaf a try.
