I work really close to this teriyaki restaurant so I decided to try it for lunch today. I got the tofu teriyaki, and the tofu came in moist soft small strips instead the cubes of tofu I'm used to and I loved it. The rice and veggies with the coleslaw only added to a more satisfying and delicious lunch. The staff is super friendly and the customer service is impeccable. I didn't even wait 10 minutes for my order to be brought outside. Be warned this is NOT a fine plan teriyaki place, it's take out only. I highly recommend! read more

Awesome "hole-in-the-wall" sushi, teriyaki, noodles & Korean dishes. Great low prices, large portions, wonderful staff. They have a few tables for eating there or you can get fast carry-out. I've been eating here for years and highly recommend it! (My only wish is that I would like to see short or medium grain rice, instead of long grain rice. I grew up in Taiwan and Korea and, to me, long grain rice is tasteless and just plain weird.) You can't do better with their prices and quality in Belltown!!!! read more

This place is unbelievably good, in that I literally wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it for myself. Such a combination of low prices and quality food is not something you expect to find in such a location. Their basic chicken teriyaki is a generous plate of good, well-prepared chicken and rice. Where most teriyaki restaurants pair this with a side of chopped cabbage in vinegar, they offer a salad with a satisfying mix of vegetables in a flavorful dressing. After tax and tip, I was still out of there for less than nine dollars. This may not be a gourmet destination, but as far as a small, fast-food-style Japanese/Korean restaurant goes, you'd be hard-pressed to find anything better. read more

One of my absolute favorite places for lunch or a quick bite after work. I've seen the line out the door and I still managed to order and walk out the door in 20 minutes. A huge deciding factor is a restaurant's sushi quality when business is packed, and they didn't disappoint! The rice was portioned well and a tight roll with a decent amount of fish. The teriyaki pork or beef yakisoba have been my go to, or the special bento when I'm feeling fancy. The main boss lady I always see is incredibly kind but doesn't mess around! I'm not sure what the other reviewers were expecting when they went to a bento (fast food) restaurant. They have decent food at good prices. If you were wanting real, fresh sushi, you shouldn't have come to this place. It's way better than grocery store sushi!!-the rolls haven't been refrigerated (the rice would be hard). I usually get their Udon + California Roll Combo and LOVE it. I love that they have a brown rice option to all their meals for when I'm feeling "healthy". Not many places offer that. Overall, great prices and food that reflects those prices (DUH?)! If you call ahead, they'll have your order ready for pick-up. read more

My partner and I live a few blocks away from Bento World, and she's been wanting to try it for a while now. We had just got back from a trip and were hauling our suitcases through the rain and stopped in to grab some sushi to go. The sign on the door said they close at 7 PM, and it was 6:45 and there were customers in the restaurant just starting their dinners, so I thought it was okay to order. Wrong! We were rudely asked to leave because "We're going to be closing in a little while, sorry no more orders." Granted, I was pretty hangry at this point and all I did was walk out of the restaurant (and across the street to good old, reliable Subway), but I should have said something to the employee. Both my partner and I have worked in the restaurant industry and neither of us have even heard of turning customers away 15 minutes before close. I have the impression that laziness and poor customer service is acceptable at Bento World, so I can only speculate at the quality of their food or the cleanliness of their kitchen. We will not be patronizing this restaurant in the future. read more

They have enough seating for some small groups and accept orders over the phone. I've always been greeted warmly and with a smile. Came here for the Bento, as my previous spot crashed and burned after a renovation. I was satisfied with the bento here. The food tasted quite good and the portions were....ok. It was enough, but dont think the value of portion to price was accurate. The "salad" included with the bento box was a bit odd, it was raw cauliflower, carrots and cabbage with dressing. Seems like that is more of a summer bbq vegetable platter with dipping sauce than a salad. Not a horrible spot for bento, but not the best either. Food quality and customer service is good though, try it and make your opinion. I probably wont go back there again only because my desire for amazing bento takes me elsewhere. read more

Excellent little Teriyaki place tucked in to a quiet little corner. Walked by and only just saw it after many times walking right past it many times. Coincidence is a funny thing. Yesterday, on my way home, I stumbled across Bento World, right around the corner from my office building. And today, it just so happened that I forgot to bring a lunch, thus forcing me to go out and get something on my lunch break. And --- oh, look, there's Bento World right there! Amazing. It's almost too coincidental. I went at around 12:30, but it wasn't too busy --- two of the four tables were occupied, and a couple of people were standing there waiting to pick up their to-go orders. The place has a "Grand Opening" sign hanging outside, so I'm guessing it's still pretty new and not that well known, which is good news for those of us on a half-hour lunch. In fact, they're so new that they don't yet have take-out menus to give customers, although their sign says they take phone orders (I guess you just have to know what you want). The menu isn't huge, but it's big enough, featuring chicken and beef teriyaki, shrimp tempura, yakisoba, and about a dozen kinds of sushi rolls (ranging from the pedestrian California roll to the exotic fruit roll). They offer four lunch specials ranging from $5-9, as well as a few bento boxes that cost more and offer larger portions. I had the chicken teriyaki and California roll ($6), which includes a generous helping of chicken over rice, four pieces of California roll, and a gross salad with an icky light-green mayonnaise dressing. My food was ready in about five minutes, and I made it back to the office with plenty of time to actually eat my lunch. The rice was a bit on the crunchy side and there was definitely way too much teriyaki sauce involved (they actually provided an extra cup, just in case you wanted to drench every last grain of rice), but overall the food was fine, and the prices seem pretty reasonable. This is the kind of place where you go when it's 11:55 am and you're having murderous sushi cravings that WILL NOT WAIT until the end of the day. I wouldn't go out of my way for Bento World... but fortunately, I don't have to. read more

The spicy chicken teriyaki is nice and spicy, not a lot of teriyaki sauce on it. I like that they give me salad instead of rice for dietary concerns. They are quick, nice and always a good fall-back on a rainy day when you dont want to walk too far for your lunch. read more

Their Chicken Udon is simply wonderful. I especially love it in the winter or if I'm fighting a cold. The udon noodles are thick and tasty. The broth is super flavorful. It comes with veggies and lots of chicken. It is usually fairly spicy, but you can also ask for light spice. read more

Every Monday for work I must have beef Yakisoba and it never disappoints. Huge portion and it is delicious. This is definitely a mom & pop restaurant, with mom & pop actually in the kitchen. A lot of what they do is on a standard stove top but I don't care how you make it if it's good!! read more

Bento World (aka Opera-yaki) is simple teriyaki done well. It's a cafe that serves basic Japanese and Korean dishes. There are no waiters. The girl behind the counter is friendly and will bring you your food. There are just a few tables, a lot of people order to-go. The chicken teriyaki never has any 'weird bits'. It's got a bit of char, but maybe not enough. The veggies are decent. I've probably gone to Operayaki at least 10 times for lunch, and will likely go another 10. read more

Solid 4.5 stars. Tasty! Salmon and masago nigiris were both fresh and a generous size. I got the Rainier roll (which has seared salmon on top), and it was delicious and filling! They honored my request for less rice in it, too, and replaced the rice in my BBQ pork with salad as requested. Most places ignore these requests. I saved the spicy scallop hand roll for the next day, but it's a good size and looks yummy (I'll update if it's not). I only took a bite of the BBQ pork (saving for next day), but it was good, albeit a little dry; the hot mustard sauce it comes with really helps. My only real gripe is that it's a bit overpriced compared to, say, Mejari...but Mejari either ignores or charges a fortune for special requests without telling you it'll cost extra, and so, Bento World is the better pick in my view. And it's a MUCH better experience than I had with another restaurant, Koibito, which I don't recommend. NOTE that I ordered via Grubhub, which has high fees for restaurants, and so the prices were almost definitely higher than if I'd ordered directly from the restaurant for takeout (not ideal because I don't live near the restaurant). Still, my price comparison is against delivery prices of other sushi places as well. And it's not marked up quite as much as some otherwise-good places, like Sushi Tokyo. I'd definitely order again from Bento World! read more

I walked into Bento World at 2:30 and there are 4+me inside. I take that as a good sign (considering how tiny the place is) because it was almost crowded. The whole place is the size of a master bedroom and the kitchen is the size of a walk in closet. A lady and her dog walk in a couple minutes later and I hardly have a place to stand anymore. I order the chicken teriyaki, figuring it's probably the most popular Item on the menu. As I see the cook start the order I glance(through the kitchen pass thru window) at what looks like the top half of a George Foreman grill. This almost makes me lol. I take a closer look and they don't even have a commercial hood. So I wait, and wait and 15 minutes later I get my food. It's edible, but only in a "I'm eating this because it's free and I'm hungry" sort of way. Bottom line is that these guys don't have gas/commerical cooking equipment. Its like they are trying to sell teriyaki out of a college dorm room so you can imagine the lack of quality control and speed of service. I am amazed at the lengths some people go thru to try and make a buck. These folks should just start selling hot dogs and brats instead because honestly, who wants to pay for stir fry from an electric range? read more

This is more of a Teriyaki/Korean lunch type place than a sushi place in my opinion. I've never had the sushi here, and probably won't since I'm kind of a sushi snob. What I really like is the bibimbap. Add a sunny side up egg for $1 more. Lots of veggies, kimchi, rice and meat (or tofu). It used to be one of the cheapest thing on the menu, but I think people are discovering it, so it's a bit more now. Still worth it. read more

It's hard to find good gyouza at a reasonable price, but here you get 6 for about $4, and they're delicious. The combination bento lunch is excellent. I always get it to go, and I either split it with a friend or save half for dinner. The portions are huge, making it a great value. As far as teriyaki goes, it's one of the better establishments, and the atmosphere is busy but cheerful. The only downside is that the shop is small, so it can get a bit cramped during busy hours. Tasty chicken teriyaki, the udon is delicious and the sushi isn't half bad for what it's worth. I found out today that they get their fish delivered fresh every morning. BEST tofu and veggie Udon in all of the land (or at least in all of Seattle). I've never tried anything else here because the Udon is too good not to get. Based on other reviews, it sounds like I really need to try the bibimbap though. Bento World is fast, friendly, and convenient. The restaurant is tiny so getting a table at lunch can be challenging (my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5), but they happily send you on your way with a huge container of hot tasty Udon goodness to eat at work or home. read more
