Food was good, service was quick, and I was on the way back to the office within ten minutes of first entering. The food was tasty, I got a deluxe bento box with shrimp. I asked for the sauce to be on the side, but forgot about asking for the dressing to be on the side. Due to a sugar issue, I need to have all sauces on the side so I can decide how little or how much I want to put on my food. All in all the meal was good, I expected there to be more food as compared to other restaurants that have similar bento box items and a similar price. Decided to try Bento House a couple times in the last few weeks since it's close by, in the Home Depot shopping center. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. It's not a huge place inside, maybe twelve tables. Decor is pretty spartan. The food is decent. The chicken teriyaki could use a little more flavor, but the fried rice is spot on. The noodles were a little greasy for my personal taste. The sushi is mediocre, but it's honestly not a sushi restaurant at heart. I do recommend ordering the bento box over a la carte items- it's a much better deal. This little spot is quite good! My brother and I had a lot of spare time after a class let out early and we decided to do some exploring for food. After visiting another place and leaving we decided to stop here and I'm glad we did! The sushi tastes very fresh and it's quite good; the spicy mayo is very spicy, but it doesn't take away from the experience I'd say. My only complaint was I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken gyoza; they weren't terribly, but they were lightly pan fried and I prefer really crispy dumplings. The dumpling sauce, however, was quite good! Edit: When a sushi roll took a little too long to prepare we went up to ask and they corrected the problem immediately and we received our roll quite quickly! The lady even gave us free spring rolls! I ordered through door dash. Wanted to get the tofu teriyaki bento box however it didnt day online whether the whole box was vegetarian or not. I opted for 2 orders of Avacado roll and Miso soup. The Miso soup is good, slightly salty but good. The sushi however, is not even wrapped tightly enough to be called sushi, its large clunky pieces of unripe avacado inside of broken sushi pieces. I also paid $1 extra to get avacado on the outside I guess, didnt get that. These sushi rolls were $6/order....not worth it. read more

The chicken tasted like it was deep fried in butter and soy sauce. It tasted off, greasy, and gross. The noodles were equally greasy and tasted like greasy noodles and absolutely nothing else. The california roll tasted like something you would pick up at a grocery store that was rolled not at the grocery store. The salad... I can't fault the salad, the salad was not bad. too bad it was the smallest portion in the tray because it was the best part of the meal. The spring roll was a sad spring roll, it was room temperature and looked crispy on the outside -- like maybe at one point in the day it was crispy... but it was not when I got it, inside the roll was watery mush that made me wonder if Jello makes a vegetable flavor. I'm sorry Bento House for the poor review, but I can't believe what I just ate. This is the worst Japanese hibachi we have ever had. Both my husband and I found it to be absolutely disgusting. His steak hibachi had a hair in it and his spring rolls, which he has never once turned down in his life, were inedible. I ordered the chicken teriyaki Bento box with fried rice and egg and it was mainly cabbage. The fried rice was not fried and I found one teeny tiny little piece of fried egg in there. Overall this place was a rip off and did not taste anything close to what it should have. We eat from a lot of hibachi places and this one will never make it into that rotation again. When I went to Bento House I got the chicken teriyaki bento box with the noodles. The chicken was tasty and flavorful, but the noodles were bland, mushy, and very greasy. The bento box was supposed to come with mixed vegetables but I only got one broccoli floret, a piece of a carrot and a few pieces of cabbage in my meal. My sister came with me and got the shrimp tempura roll and she wasn't a big of fan of it, she only liked it because there was shrimp tempura in it. The avocado pieces were bigger than the shrimp tempura and the cucumber was so long. So overall it wasn't a horrible place but it wasn't great, so I wouldn't recommend it to anybody if they want good quality Japanese food. read more

First time here, looking for bento box and sushi. Found it easily and stepped inside after a person that was warmly greeted as a regular, sounded like ears there weekly. I saw they have two size bento boxes on their menu, one that is mostly meat and rice, and the deluxe comes with a spring roll and 4 piece California roll. I got the salmon bento box deluxe and a spicy tuna roll, had a small salad in the box too. You got a choice of fried rice or white rice, I got the white rice. As people had said in the reviews the rice was fresh tasting and good texture. The salmon was excellent, slightly crispy on edges and flakey. The spring roll was vegetarian inside, something like cabbage. The sushi rolls were okay, fresh made with a dab of wasabi inside the roll. The bento was a generous size, and I probably didn't need a roll on the side, was just very hungry when I arrived and the price was reasonable- you may want to try just a box and then decide if you want to order more later. The business was steady but they were keeping up with all the orders when I was there, call ins and people eating there. The dinning area is casual, some seating on stools by the window, lots of tables, good for families, friends, or small groups. You get cups and fill your own drinks. I love this place. It's super quick and convenient, and I can order online and they will either deliver or I can pick up. I usually pick up. Rarely takes more than 10-15 minutes for my food to be ready. They once changed their recipe for a Boston roll and I had an allergic reaction. I don't eat that anymore, and stick to only the simplest rolls where it'd be obvious if there was any change to the ingredients. Pretty good food prepared quickly! Inside the restaurant was casual and clean, and service was very friendly. I tried the chicken teriyaki deluxe bento box and the Tontoksu ramen (aka pork belly). The chicken teriyaki was yummy, not quite unique but a classic. The deluxe came with 4 California sushi rolls, mixed vegetables, an eggroll, and rice. A great deal at $7.85 and quite filling! The eggroll was ok, a good exterior but lacking in its filling. The sushi was ok as well, similar to grocery store-bought sushi but with more fresh rice. Anyway I don't expect top-tier sushi at a place like this! The Tonkotsu ramen was decent, not special but could fulfill a craving. The noodles were soft, and there were plenty of spring onions. This is probably personal preference, but I am not a fan of pork belly in brothy dishes, as it tastes too fatty to me. It would been nice if they had other ramen noodle options (the other one is a spicy version of the Tonkotsu). If you're in the mood for a decent mall-like meal, but as quickly as you can get Chipotle or Five Guys, this is a great local option! I would go for the bento boxes over any of the other dishes (i.e. the ramen). They don't seem to have a website yet, so I've uploaded some photos of the menu. read more

Bento House fulfills what I see as a gap in the Reston area - fast-food Japanese with an emphasis on simple sushi and teriyaki dishes, all served in a "to-go" fashion and in a casual, affordable environment. Located on the south side of the Home Depot shopping center, north of the Reston Town Center area, Bento House is a newer addition to a plaza that has pizza, Thai, Peruvian Chicken, and some chain fast food options. Bento's hours are convenient, but it's not a late-night joint for a Japanese food craving. When I went on a weeknight, they were already cleaning the floors about an hour prior to closing, but the manager/owner on-site was extremely friendly and welcomed us heartily. The menu is very simple and definitely won't break the bank. You order at the counter, and the menu is displayed above the cash register. Take a seat after you order, and your food will be brought to your table in short order. Choose from basic teriyaki dishes, which range from about $5-$8, and include plenty of steamed or fried rice, your choice of protein, and a California roll (with krab, of course :) ). If you'd prefer sushi, there are various maki-style rolls ranging from very simple, such as an avocado roll, to a bit more "complex" for a fast-food joint, such as spicy tuna with avocado. There's a small selection of bottled drinks. The teriyaki dish (chicken) received high marks from my husband, but I found the sauce to be much too sweet. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a California roll, and they were perfectly A-OK. We'd probably go back for a quick sushi/teriyaki takeaway. All food is served in to-go containers, so it's simple to eat and run. If it's not too busy, an employee may come around to bus your table, or there are trash receptacles located conveniently by the doors. Disappointed about our meal. I ordered and paid for extra egg roll which wasn't received. The ones that we did get on the "delux" box were undercooked. Noodles were dry and tasteless. Teriyaki chicken wasn't teriyaki at all. Steak didn't have the Japanese taste we were looking for. No sesame seeds on anything and yum yum sauce was an extra $0.85 cents, doesn't come with the meal. Bento house is a fast food Japanese style restaurant. You can dine-in, there are tables but most people carry out. I usually get their teriyaki chicken (comes with steamed veggies) with steamed rice. It's what you can expect...fast food. It's good and decent amount of food for the price. Their appetizer takoyaki (fried balls with diced octopus pieces in the middle, with sauce drizzled on top) is decent too. I've had better but if you are craving it and don't know any other place that makes this...Bento house takoyaki isn't so bad to try. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they have an official person to handle take outs-but the cashier was very accommodating and I got my food fairly quickly! I got the chicken teriyaki deluxe bento box with fried rice, which I think is their most popular dish, for about $9. Not bad for NOVA prices! There was a lot of food; I had to save some of the chicken and rice for later. It was a hearty meal but it wasn't mind blowing. For the food, I was surprised that the salad dressing they used was closer to Thousand Island dressing than the typical Ginger dressing most Japanese restaurants use. In addition, their California roll doesn't have cucumbers in it, which in my opinion lacked the crunch that was needed for the sushi. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the spring roll the most! Quick and decent food. There are some eat in tables and it looks cleaner/less unpleasant than you would expect from the outside. We have only had takeout and the food is ready quickly. The shrimp teriyaki is pretty good, but feels a bit heavy and greasy. You do get a lot of food with the deluxe bento boxes and it's definitely less expensive than if at a nicer sit down Japanese place. Nice to get a spring roll and a little bit of sushi with the deluxe box to have some more variety. read more
