We were told to pay for the other group at our table who had double the amount as our check. This experience went from bad to good. We visit this location several times a year for birthdays and have done so for the past decade. Even though the service has declined I had attributed it to the general decline in the entire business but this visit revealed that this restaurant was worse than any other experience. I had a 7:30 reservation for myself, my wife and child, but did not get seated until 8:00. Then it was almost an hour wait until the chef arrived. During the entire night we never even got our waters refilled. I understand that with staffing issues it can be a challenge to meet the demand of customers, so I was not concerned. The chef and the meal were great. It was a birthday meal for us and we had the certificate for $30 off the we get each year. The other couple left and we stayed for the birthday song and desert. Eventually the waitress came up to us and she said something was wrong with the check and the other group that left paid $80 and we could pay $85, or just the $80. That amount surprised us, since the 2 of us split an adult meal Habichi Chicken Rice of about $32 and my child had a kids meal of $22. We also ordered fried rice with was $8. No drinks just water. So total $62 plus tax would be around $70. Once the $30 birthday certifiable is subtracted it would be around $40. So being asked to pay $80 and an extra $5 so we can be the same as the other group made no sense. The waitress said she would talk to the manager, which then I thought would fix it. The manager produced a receipt with the other people's charges on it and wanted us to pay for it. We said that was not our check and we were not going to pay for it. She responded by saying it was already ticketed and can not be changed. We said just make a ticket of our food. She said she could not. We repeated that we are not paying for other people food. We also asked what about the $30 birthday certificate, she said it was already on the other people's charge, and we said that was ours and we are not going to pay for it. During this time the manager keep telling us she was going discount it to be $80. Which made no sense at first, but I realized that the total table was about was $195 so they were trying to get us to pay for half. Apparently they gave the other couple our check and they wanted us to pay amount which was $120, but then they were discounting it. Eventually they gave us the check and discounted it to $40. The picture receipt is the other couple charge, and we never saw a check with our food. No apologies were ever given. Needless to say this ruined our birthday and we are never going to back. So if you choose to go to this location , keep track of your bill. read more

Let me preface this by saying Benihana serves its purpose for birthday dinners. I have been doing birthday dinners at Benihana since I was a little boy, 50 years ago. That was back when the only option was near Coit and 635. The food is just OK. The chefs have lost their flare over the course of 50 plus years. But it's a tradition I have passed on to my two boys and they love it. Reservation was at 6:00. Arrived a couple minutes before with our full party ready to eat. We were told maybe 10 minutes. The lobby was pretty full, so the short wait was expected. At roughly 6:45, I went up to the host stand and asked about things and where we were on the list. They couldn't find my name and after a bit of scrolling. I was told my reservation had been cancelled. I was told they would get us seated with the next available table. About her 15-20 passed with other tables being seated and another person in my party found a manager to talk to. Another 10 minutes or so and we were headed back a table. It took a bit, but a waitress with acrylic daggers on her finger tips took our drink order. These fake nails were right out of Friday the 13th movies. Not only were they way too long, they had accessories glued in/on them. Like nuts and bolts or something. We ordered tea, soda, and a couple bar drinks. The soft drinks arrived with very little ice and no sweetener for the tea. The bar drinks arrived seemed to be decent enough. We asked for a couple glasses of ice, which never arrived, so we had to go to the bar and get it ourself. Food was ordered and off she went to sharpen her nails and turn our order. The chef arrived and did a fine job. Certainly not the most energetic guy....he actually yawned while he started his spatula flipping routine. Maybe the language barrier had him cautious, since only a couple people at our table spoke Spanish. At some point the waitress returned from her manicure appointment and brought no ice drink refills. As she was fumbling with a glass on the table. Her entire tray leaned forward and ended up all down my back and I got soaked. What a fitting way to end the worst meal experience we've ever had at Benihana. One of our party member had enough and found a manager. He came over and gave us a few free appetizer cards and discounted our meal a bit. We won't stop coming to Benihana, but we will stop coming to this one in Irving. What a shame!!! read more

The order arrived on time and was well packed! Everything tasted wonderful, was well prepared and of obvious high quality ! The meat was perfectly grill and the soup tickled my taste buds. For fun, I ordered a bottle of Ramune. Did you know there is a marble inside a bottle of Ramune? The design of Ramune bottles is so cool!. The glass bottle has a codd neck and the purpose of the marble is to hold in the carbonation. In the olden days this was a method to keep the carbonation in the bottle! It is kind of fun opening the bottle. It can be challenging for the first timer! Absolutely a great lunch! Well worth the cost!! read more

This one is a favorite of my mom's. We celebrated her 50th birthday there. She can dine on the Las Vegas sushi rolls & fried rice alone, as long as she has her lychee martinis - she's since gotten me addicted to! We went on a Weds. night, and while it was slightly busy, & our waitress was new and trying, it took a while on our drinks throughout the night and our appetizers. No fault of the waitress, she apologized for the delay a few times. Once our hibachi chef showed, everything got on track but there was a longer than usual. There were a lot of birthdays celebrated that night especially since Benihana offers a free entree to those celebrating if you're signed up to their email list. The food was definitely in the "good" category not the "great". But often times when you have great service (which I did as provided by Sam) all I need is "good" in order to return. I will probably come back someday but won't be in a hurry. I am a returning guest I love Benihanas lunch hour filet mignon and the sushi bar happy hour. If you don't already know they have an awesome birthday coupon as well if you sign up in advance. Today I was brought in by an email from Benihanas advertising their Election Day happy hour. I have definitely been to better locations where the food was tastier. I'm really surprised by these reviews. I'm taking away 2 stars just for the cleanliness and aging of the restaurant. Has this place been inspected lately? Upon entering there were several flies in the waiting area. There were also flies around our eating area. I can only imagine how many insects they may have where the food is stored. This restaurant is old and could use a major remodel. The decor is very dated and makes it look dirty. Given the price for the food they should be making enough profit to get some newer furnishings. The service was very good. The food was on the expensive side but you get a whole lot, yet I still can't believe a kids meal of chicken tenders was $18!!! It came with a drink and scoop of ice cream for dessert but for $18! It also came with veggies and shrimp but if they took these 2 items off, which most picky kids probably wouldn't eat anyway, the meal could have been justified at $12. My toddler enjoyed the chicken tenders though so I was happy. It's fun to see the food prepared in front of you. The vegetables and sides were nicely seasoned. However my yakisoba left much to be desired in the taste department. Overall this was about the experience, but the insects ruined that immediately. read more

Worst service experience I've had at a restaurant! We had to ask to get multiple parts of our courses - including the soup, the shrimp, and the green tea. We didn't get one person's white rice. We waited 25 minutes for a BEER. And once we got it, the waitress asked which spirit someone wanted for their cocktail, again, 25 minutes after they ordered it. One person never got an ordered glass of wine as well. We had to convince the manager to waive the meal of the person that didn't get their rice (and again had to remind the waitress of half their meal). We asked for cream on the side and never got it, and never got any water refills even though someone got the spiciest meal on the menu. The food was great and even the chef acknowledged this was on the waitress. The management should have been much more accommodating and made things right. The waitress never acknowledged that she did anything wrong or expressed remorse. And it was still VERY EXPENSIVE. Overall, we want to say thank you for this incredibly entertaining experience. We'll never forget this birthday for sure. And we'll make sure never to come back to Benihana's either! read more

I was willing to give this place another try. The last time I was here I had to experience our chefs very first day and it made our meal terrible. I commend the kid for trying to do his best. But it was just an awful experience. Coming to this Benihana's in TX just made me wonder how they do it our here since Im from CA. It was perfect!! Got seated quickly being that we had reservations. The food was super delicious, and the service was great!! It was my daughter 's birthday and they made her feel good. Big thank you to Lena who took care of our table also our chef Victor and the Manager on duty that night (7/18 @7:30pm) I forgot his name but, as we were about to leave he stopped us and asked if we wanted a picture with the birthday girl to be taken. He kept area clean and clear and was kind and attentive he definitely made the experience better.we also had an amazing chef and I sadly don't recall his name. Wish I could though because I would request him again. But one of my kids took a drink from another. Kid stuff lol. And I told him just to share it would be ok. I have had better sushi from the Kroger supermarket. Got served the tea on a chipped pot and without a lid, hence got cold very quickly. The gyoza were greasy, pan fried grease.
