My coworkers were raving about this "all you can eat" sushi joint called - "Japan House" that was not too far from our hotel, so after work a bunch of da fellas jumped into my small Toyota Corolla rental & headed over to Japan House for sushi. As a former fan of "all you can eat" buffets, I noticed as I've gotten older, I'm no longer a fan of "all ya can eat", but hangin' out with da fellas is fun. What can I say about Japan House? 1. The restaurant had an extensive sushi menu for all you can eat. 2. Exceptional service! Our waitress was very attentive, she kept checking up on us and placed our food orders quickly. After placing the food order, the food came out quickly. 3. This restaurant was one of the first restaurants that used an electronic robot. The robot machine brought out the simple items, and I even saw the robot sing "Happy Birthday" to a restaurant patron. 4. The restaurant is casual, and pretty dark inside. 5. The sushi quality is about "middle of the road", not the best, but far from bad. What do you expect for all you can eat? Check out my pics..... So I came here for the first time because I was craving some Japanese food, sushi, and all that good stuff. I looked through the reviews and found Japan House. I'm glad I went; they are an all-you-can-eat restaurant. When you arrive, you're greeted by the host, then seated, and they explain the menu and prices, which are actually quite reasonable. They are open from 11:00 to 14:30 for lunch, then reopen at 16:30 to close. The place looks amazing, decorated in authentic Japanese style. Huy, my server, was just fantastic. He explained how everything works and had this great energy about him. He even helped with some recommendations: the Ocean, 911 roll, and the Hot Night roll--all of which are amazing, so I recommend trying those. Also, if you go, ask for Huy. I'll definitely be back to try more because, you know, you can only eat so much, LOL!!! read more

My favorite AYCE sushi place just got converted into a normal sushi place thus leaving me on the hunt for a new favorite. My partner and I decided to give this place a try as the reviews were pretty high. Upon entering, the host staff was a little short with us and didn't welcome us in. I also noticed that a lot of the wait staff was by the bar area talking amongst themselves which was a bit of a concern as the place seemed pretty packed. We waited a few minutes which wasn't a problem then were seated in one of the middle tables. I would say the best seating would have to be the booths as they offer more privacy and also are enclosed with neat wooden framing. A different host explained to us how the place worked and he was very kind and helpful. At first glance, the menu was very large with lots to choose from. We went during the dinner menu which included even more options, such as chef specials, better rolls, and sashimi (if you're going to go, definitely go during the dinner menu as it's worth it). We ordered some appetizers to start and they were simply okay. Not that big of a deal since the main stuff includes the sashimi and the rolls so we weren't too bothered by it. We next ordered two rolls for the table (which came with four pieces which is the perfect amount I would say) and they were not good. The texture of everything was a bit off and the rice was chewy as if it had been made a while ago. After the second round, our server just about disappeared and we didn't see him for another thirty minutes. Another thing to note is that the dishes came out super fast which made me question the quality and also the plates pile up quickly and people take too long to come by and clear the tables. We had to start multiple stacks and make room for each course. We got sashimi next. Some of the sashimi, such as the white tuna, the mackerel, and the salmon, was amazing while others, such as the tuna and the albacore, were awful in both color and taste. We went ahead and got some more rolls and noticed that they were all pretty bad: the texture was super off, the seaweed was hard, the fish didn't taste fresh, and there wasn't a whole lot in them other than rice. I fear that my expectations for an AYCE sushi place are very high as I've had phenomenal AYCE sushi at other restaurants. This place definitely was lacking in both service and quality and we won't be coming back. If you're looking for something cheap and don't mind too much about the quality or you order mostly sashimi then you will probably like it. It just wasn't for us. read more

Our server, Logan, did a a great job of keeping our table stocked up and to make sure we had what we needed. The fish was very thinly sliced...almost too thin. We had a wonderful experience dining at Japan House recently. Our waiter, Bao, was very attentive and was patient with our questions. You are allowed to order 5 items at a time. Their servings are small, so there is less waste. The food arrives quickly and Bao returned after about 10-15 minutes later to see what else we would like to order. Their food is super fresh and tasty. The standouts for me was the salmon belly, lightly grilled. I ended up ordering this three times, with two pieces per serving, stop judging! ;) The rice less roll was yummy, crispy rice yummy, yellowtail with jalapeño. I tried multiple items. The only items I didn't care for was the lobster onigiri and shrimp skewer. My hubby was all about the sashimi and he easily ate $100 worth it. He was a happy man! We ordered some mochi ice cream for dessert, which is brought to the table by their cute robot. The ice cream reminded me so much of Japan! Came here with my family as a party of 10 so I expected slower service but I just never got some of my orders. I asked the waitress a couple times when the dishes never showed but basically waited until my whole family was done eating before a couple of my dishes showed up. And I STILL was missing dishes. Not sure if the system was messing up and not putting in the orders or what but it's really frustrating to come to an AYCE and have to beg for my food. Still never got my spider rolls, mega shrimp roll or yuzu salmon. Meanwhile saw a couple people just standing around the sushi bar not doing anything. If you're going to charge dinner AYCE prices on the weekend and give this kind of service, maybe don't offer AYCE? Or just up the price. I'd rather pay a little more and eat my fill, not play this stingy back and forth waiting game and then still expect me to tip well after withholding my food. The good thing about their sushi roll orders is that the rolls are not big allowing you to finish a roll and thus taste a variety of type of rolls. The wait staff is attentive. There are a lot of options on their menu & chef specials. The sushi was alright & not as fresh. I normally love getting scallop, but it slimy & I was surprised that I didn't get food poisoning. I also tried the sweet shrimp from their chef special. It didn't have that sweet, briny ocean taste I normally taste. I did like the japanese short ribs were good, but it had a lot of fat tho. I hate being hyped up by stellar reviews and try out a place to be so disappointed throughout a meal and then have to write sitting on the toilet in their restroom not even done with our meal. Surf clam and octopus was edible. All other fish is chewy n fishy. The fried stuff is ok. We ordered calamari twice. The rolls were horrid I am sorry. I've never had rolls this bad. It fell apart, nothing rolled inside and was all wrong. Idk if you can tell from the pics but it's wrong. A child must have rolled it. I went to the restroom to look at who rolled it too. I feel so bad but I am in shock what a bad experience this place was. I wanted to like it so bad because we were hungry, the reviews were good and even a friend said it was ok and her parents came a lot so I did not expect this. The ice cream was good and I ate more calamari but even the udon and ramen tasted like it came from a package. Not authentic at all. The taoyaki was raw. The karate was from a box. The katsu was ok. Edamame was ok. The cat robot was cute and the place was pretty but again what happened to the food? It's probably the worse sushi I've had. Even worse than this place I had in Austin which I wouldn't go back. It wasn't fresh and the quality was so bad :( I hope they read this review and make some changes because $21 for lunch should be better than this. Sushi Masa in Plano is better than this. Finally made it to dinner service! Had all the sashimi I could eat ! We all so got to try the Japanese short ribs. They were fatty and delicious, hard to eat with chopsticks though so use your hands. However, my most recent dinner with our server Jason blew me away! We usually go on weekends for dinner, and wait is usually up to 10 minutes. For this most recent visit, we got Jason as our server! Hands down one of the best servers I've ever had EVER! He made our dinner experience so delightful. Jason made great recommendations based on our preferences, and he also made suggestions from what we ordered before! He made sure we always had everything we need and that everything was good! How they're all you can eat works: it's $22 per person weekday lunch, $33 per person for dinners or lunch on weekends, drinks not included. The menu has dynamite apps, classic Japanese soups/salads, basic sushi, signature hot & cold sushi rolls, hibachi grill, ramen, poke, and icecream for dessert are all included options in the all you can eat. Each person can order up to 5 items at a time and as you finish stuff you can order more. If you waste a bunch they can charge you for the plates but our experience it was easy to order 2-3 items at a time for each of us and keep the flow going. And it's all yummy quality stuff. This place is so good and such a hit in Jim that I had no idea about! I came here one day with a group of people and oh my goodness I did not know that this was served like a buffet style! We came for lunch in less than 25 bucks. It's pretty much all that you can eat and I must say the customer service was super good and they have a robot in there that delivers ice cream. You can get anything from the miso soup all the way up to many different rolls whether they are fried or not, or you can order many different dishes, ranging from noodles and rice bowls that have a variation of meats. I will be coming back here absolutely because I had no idea that it was all you can eat. There are so many things on the menu that I would like to try and they bring out the portions that are small enough but big enough that you're not overdoing it and feel stuff. My favorite thing to eat was the fried salmon. It was so good and I must say I'm a huge fan of miso soup so this was perfect. Was craving sushi, but visiting DFW. Yelp! did me good by showing me Japan House. The place was nice inside with a good atmosphere. (And a cool little robot that delivers food) SERVICE: I was greeted right away and able to sit within minutes. I chose the bar so I could get a drinky-drinky. Jesus was tending bar and did a fabulous job with conversation and service!!! FOOD: The food was great!! I had the avocado salad (super fresh, avocado was tender and flavorful, and the dressing was YUM!) I've been to both locations and I like this location. For an AYCE place it's good. You can def get full and surprisingly get good pieces of sashimi but after a couple of orders, the sashimi quality isn't as great. Service was great and the cost for dining in is appropriate for everything that's available to order. You can place all your orders at once especially if it's busy, don't be shy, because if not you'll be sitting and waiting for your next dish. I'm glad we did! The place is not hard to find and it was in a nice area. The inside has a clean, minimalist design and the servers are accommodating. We got there a little early before the big crowds, so our food were coming out expeditiously. They will slow down a little once the crowd gets bigger but they can still keep up with the pace. You can order all you can eat for $34 (dinner/weekends) $22 (M-F lunch) or order a la carte and the menu prices are unbelievably reasonable for this crazy time. Most of our party doesn't eat much so we ordered Al a carte and 2 ordered all you can eat. The restaurant was very nice and very clean. They take reservations but we didn't have one and got seated very quickly with a party of 8. When you order all you can eat you can order 5 dishes at a time, unlimited number of times, and they're a bit smaller than normal servings but PERFECT for trying multiple items. The service was probably the best we have ever had at a sushi restaurant. Our server (Long, C) was incredible. He was polite, attentive, helpful, made amazing suggestions, treated my girls (who we were celebrating their birthday) so amazing. The robot, Emma, was adorable and even sang Happy Birthday to my girls. Everyone was friendly and service was quick and the food was prepared amazingly well. Food was SPOT ON! Being all you can eat I was worried it would not all be fresh, maybe even like buffet almost but I was totally wrong. Everything we ordered was from the kitchen was hot and definitely fresh. So having passed this restaurant many times and seeing all the good reviews, I decided to take the plunge and check this place out for lunch today. Upon entering this establishment, I was promptly greeted and brought to my table. Jason, my assigned server, promptly greeted me and took my drink order, when I also ordered a few appetizers. The food comes out of the kitchen in short period of time. The appetizers were very tasty, but the portion sizes are on the smaller side. The fried shrimp shumai and the fried gyoza were yummy!! The pork buns were heavenly!! I tried a few cooked rolls and they were spectacular! I especially recommend the Cowboy Roll #88, the King J Roll #90, and the Spider Roll #91. Make sure to leave room for dessert - their green tea ice cream is incredible!! This restaurant has a peaceful ambiance and is kept very clean, and has plenty of parking.
