Bf and I really enjoyed our date night here. I got the GOAM and bf got the Hiroshima. We've both visited Japan and found these very enjoyable. They also ask you how you want the texture of your noodle, soft or crispy, which is a nice touch. My one gripe is that once it got busy we got a little ignored and I didn't once get a refill. As of us visiting, they're doing a raffle for Pokémon cards that are relatively expensive just by buying a drink and an okonomiyaki. Our server, Jason, was so welcoming and gave us great direction on how to eat the okonomiyaki and which items to order. Our party had never had this type of delicacy before, and we were all wowed by how delicious it was! This place can get pretty busy so I recommend yall join the help waitlist to avoid waiting. I was really excited to try this place out cause I wanted okonomiyaki ! Overall, I would say it wasn't bad and if I was really itching for this dish in particular I'd go back. Mostly cause I don't know many other places that make this dish. The takoyaki though?? It's a MUST get. Perfect light crispy and softness on the inside. Yum! Also if they have their mentako udon is another must order !! Unfortunately all other apps were not good in my opinion. Didn't like the mochi skewers, didn't like the fried oysters, the karaage was one of the worst ones I've ever had, dumplings were OK at best but very forgettable. Service was okay. Chinchikurin in Carrollton is clearly a popular spot. It was packed on a Saturday night, but after adding our names to the Yelp waitlist, we were seated in a pretty reasonable amount of time. The menu has a lot of variety, though there are extra charges for some simple add ons that usually feel more like garnishes, which was a little surprising. We ordered a few dishes to share so everyone could try different things. I had the tan tan ramen along with a rice dish. The ramen came out first- it wasn't piping hot that was disappointing. The food looked great when it came out and was nicely presented. Flavor wise, it was good but a bit mild overall. The tan tan ramen was creamy and comforting but could have used more depth, spice, and seasoning. Everything tasted fresh, just not as bold as we were hoping. Having sauces and seasonings on the table like soy sauce, chili oil, spicy sauces, salt, and pepper would make a big difference so guests can adjust flavors themselves. Came by around noon on a Wednesday and got seated right away since it was about half full. The space is pretty big with lots of tables. Background music was playing but felt a bit too loud. Service was great. Even though there was only one waiter, he took his time explaining how to build and order their Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. The menu has photos for every dish and clear descriptions, so between that and the waiter, ordering was pretty stress-free. We ordered the beef tongue, plus a B&C with chicken and a cream corn mayo okonomiyaki, both over soft noodles. The beef tongue came out fast and was lukewarm -- not sure if that was intentional, maybe it's meant to be more of a cold dish -- but it was still really good with the lemon and green onions. The okonomiyakis took a bit longer and came out piping hot. The B&C was really good, tasting like a chicken pesto pasta with cabbage and ramen in okonomiyaki form. I just want to preface for my review is that I only came and tried a few appetizers and not the okonomiyaki just yet! I came with a few friends and we had the green onion chicken karaage, fries, and takoyaki. All of these were pretty good! I really liked the karaage because I loveee green onions and they definitely are not lacking in that area. We also got the fries with yuzu salt and they were pretty good too! I feel like you can't really mess up fries so they were good. I couldn't taste the yuzu salt or anything but they were crispy and a nice snack. Overall, the service was pretty fast, the shop had a really cute design, and I would like to try the okonomiyaki next time!! Finally got to try this restaurant in the new plaza in Carrollton! It was busy for a Wednesday evening. We were welcomed in and quickly seated. One of the servers greeted us and gave us a whole run down from the history, facts, and the menu itself. The team was very attentive as well which was good. However, I noticed one minor thing that isn't a big deal, but I had wished they would have pre-bussed. Our two-top table was on a smaller side and we ordered two okonomiyaki's and a miso soup. Thus, the table was crowded. The miso soup was personally good for me, but different. It consisted a lot of green onions and no tofu, which I liked, but it's not what you would usually expect at a Japanese restaurant. For the entree's, we ordered the Chinchikurinyaki (crispy) and Spicy GOAM (normal). To be honest, the food wasn't my favorite. I think it's a fun concept and it's solid, but I feel like next time, I would build my own. Both of the okonomiyaki's had pros and cons in which I wished I could've combined the two. The beef was good in the chinchikurinyaki and the spicy sauce was good in the spicy GOAM. I personally liked the soft option, but my brother enjoyed the crispy option. However, it tasted much better with the help of the kewpie mayo and okonomiyaki sauce that was preset on the table. Overall, food was more of a 3 for me, but service carried-making it a 3.5. There was one server who really seemed to go above and beyond--from the way he explained the menu to the attentive service he provided. He even made sure to throughly wipe down the high chair for us before moving it over which is greatly appreciated cause most restaurants never wipe down high chairs which is gross. Since it was our first time there, he provided recommendations on how to eat the food. He made sure to check up on us, didn't rush us, and kept an eye out for us when we were ready for the check. We did find it a little odd when another server came over to us with our Dan Dan noodles and called it soup less noodles. We were recommended a number of dishes by our server. We ended getting grilled squid, spicy goam, and the Hiroshima. I substituted the pork in the Spicy goam for beef. All of the dishes were super good. I can taste the authenticity in the dishes. The spicy goam wasn't too spicy. I thought it was 2/5 on the spicy scale. It was definitely my favorite. Tip 2: At the current moment, try to place all your orders immediately because it's so crowded. This place has only been open a few days and each time, it's been packed here. The food here is phenomenal and the staff here are so sweet and cheerful. The Okonomiyaki (savory grilled Japanese pancake) is made very traditional to Japan and I LOVE it! It had wonderful layers of meat, tempura, cabbage, noodles, and all these other magical goodness. Feel free to use their Mayo and Okonomi sauces to add to your dish. I didn't feel bloated at all and although the food was hearty, it was also really refreshing. A forewarning, the portions are huge! We tried two appetizers and while I'm not familiar with Hiroshima style Takoyaki, these were delicious. The spicy Kurobata sausages were a great prelude to our epic meal.
