    Karaage
    Christie L.

Great space to sit and hang. You're able to see the chefs cook okonomiyaki through the window which is cool. I got the Karaage - very crispy with big pieces of Karaage. Was on the expensive side for being an appetizer. The service was great - explained everything and food came at a good time.

i guess i should have read the reviews before trying. i was just checking all the shops in this mall. right after i saw the prices and the menu, i wanted to walk... should have trust my intuition. i had thought this was a okonomiyaki and noodles place. instead it is a okonomiyaki with noodles... as in noodles instead for regular flour paste for the base... never try it this way... and after trying this... i prefer the original flour base version better. too bad they dont even have that as an option in the menu... should have try the one with ground beef, that one looks like a quesadilla... -1 no option for regular version and it was just ok, sorry knew i wouldnt be a fan. end up with $22 for the loaded kaisen + asashi draft $8 + 5.50 tip ~15% total was close to 40. -1 for hitting $40 dollar... expensive for texas... this seems to be a date spot where 2 person share one okomiyaki... i power thru and man up to finish this thing.. i would say, you are paying for the atmosphere and novelty...

This place can get pretty busy so I recommend yall join the help waitlist to avoid waiting. I was really excited to try this place out cause I wanted okonomiyaki ! Overall, I would say it wasn't bad and if I was really itching for this dish in particular I'd go back. Mostly cause I don't know many other places that make this dish. The takoyaki though?? It's a MUST get. Perfect light crispy and softness on the inside. Yum! Also if they have their mentako udon is another must order !! Unfortunately all other apps were not good in my opinion. Didn't like the mochi skewers, didn't like the fried oysters, the karaage was one of the worst ones I've ever had, dumplings were OK at best but very forgettable. Service was okay. They were busy, but it was really hard to get refills for water. Instead of bringing a pitcher our server would just bring one glass of water for our table of 7, which I found off but maybe their pitcher was being used or something ? Even when crowded the place wasn't too loud, so it's easy to hang out and catch up with friends while eating.

I just want to preface for my review is that I only came and tried a few appetizers and not the okonomiyaki just yet! I came with a few friends and we had the green onion chicken karaage, fries, and takoyaki. All of these were pretty good! I really liked the karaage because I loveee green onions and they definitely are not lacking in that area. We also got the fries with yuzu salt and they were pretty good too! I feel like you can't really mess up fries so they were good. I couldn't taste the yuzu salt or anything but they were crispy and a nice snack. Overall, the service was pretty fast, the shop had a really cute design, and I would like to try the okonomiyaki next time!! This was definitely a nice introduction to this place and hope to try soon!

Chinchikurin in Carrollton is clearly a popular spot. It was packed on a Saturday night, but after adding our names to the Yelp waitlist, we were seated in a pretty reasonable amount of time. The menu has a lot of variety, though there are extra charges for some simple add ons that usually feel more like garnishes, which was a little surprising. We ordered a few dishes to share so everyone could try different things. I had the tan tan ramen along with a rice dish. The ramen came out first- it wasn't piping hot that was disappointing. The food looked great when it came out and was nicely presented. Flavor wise, it was good but a bit mild overall. The tan tan ramen was creamy and comforting but could have used more depth, spice, and seasoning. Everything tasted fresh, just not as bold as we were hoping. Having sauces and seasonings on the table like soy sauce, chili oil, spicy sauces, salt, and pepper would make a big difference so guests can adjust flavors themselves. They were very busy, so it took a little while to be greeted and get water, which is understandable on a Saturday night rush. Overall, it was a good experience with solid food and nice presentation, but a little more flavor and easy access to sauces would really elevate it.

Came by around noon on a Wednesday and got seated right away since it was about half full. The space is pretty big with lots of tables. Background music was playing but felt a bit too loud. Service was great. Even though there was only one waiter, he took his time explaining how to build and order their Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. The menu has photos for every dish and clear descriptions, so between that and the waiter, ordering was pretty stress-free. We ordered the beef tongue, plus a B&C with chicken and a cream corn mayo okonomiyaki, both over soft noodles. The beef tongue came out fast and was lukewarm -- not sure if that was intentional, maybe it's meant to be more of a cold dish -- but it was still really good with the lemon and green onions. The okonomiyakis took a bit longer and came out piping hot. The B&C was really good, tasting like a chicken pesto pasta with cabbage and ramen in okonomiyaki form. The cream corn mayo was just okay and probably would've been better with shrimp. Both were pretty salty though.

I was looking forward to this but the okonomiyaki was a little underwhelming. I may come back to try something else on the menu. Food took a long time to come out and there was only one waiter handling all the tables. Thankfully we came right at opening hour so we didn't have to wait too long but we saw some families get frustrated with how long the wait time was and left the queue.

So so so good!!! Added the marinated beef, it is VERY good, super tender!! Second time being here and love it all!!! I do it without the fish powder or or the seaweed....the Okonomi sauce is legit!!!

We were extremely excited to visit for a lunch - our group had been to the same restaurant in Tokyo Japan and loved it; service was great - very friendly staff explaining the dishes - giving advice in a friendly nice manner along with keeping drinks full - table clean and boxes for to go items provided. We had 2 different dishes - we like spicy so be prepared it is. Appetizer of kimchi fries did not disappoint - very good and served hot. We plan to go back - not sure but you may need dinner reservations as it's not a large place. Plenty of parking in newer section of Asian area off Old Denton Road.

ChinChikurin is a Japanese chain specializing in authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, a savory layered pancake that's a staple in Japanese soul food. With roots in Hiroshima, this spot brings legit flavors and techniques to Texas, offering a rare and satisfying experience for fans of Japanese comfort cuisine. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Tucked into a cozy corner of Carrollton, ChinChikurin has a casual, izakaya-style vibe with warm lighting, wood accents, and a clean, modern layout. The open kitchen lets you catch glimpses of the okonomiyaki magic in action, and the sizzling sounds add to the anticipation. It's a great spot for a casual dinner or a foodie outing with friends. 1 Stars. Service - The staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food came out quickly, which worked well for the style of dining. Bonus points for the thoughtful plating and clean presentation. 1 Star. Food - I started with the Fried Japanese Oysters which were lightly battered and perfectly crisp. Be careful! These oysters are juicy and super hot. They come with a tangy Kewpie mayo and citrus ponzu dipping sauce, which adds a refreshing zing. Then I ordered both the ChinChikurin and B&C Okonomiyaki. This ChinChikurin was nice and hearty. The B&C was a bold twist featuring bacon and cheese. The kicker? The squeeze bottle that splits the mayo into five delicate streams, small but delightful detail that adds flair and even coverage. The flavors are rich, umami-packed, and deeply satisfying. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. For a chain, ChinChikurin delivers on authenticity and flavor, and it's a rare gem for okonomiyaki lovers in the DFW area. I'll be back to try more variations--and maybe sneak in a few more of those oysters. 1 Star.

I forget which okonomiyaki i ordered, but it was exceptionally flavorful and I loved the textures. I also did discover I am not a big fan of okonomiyaki generally but I still thought this was great. Their chicken karaage is beyond exceptional--so tender and juicy and flavorful. I am definitely not a fan of takoyaki bit I actually really liked theirs! Super legit place, big fan

A pretty unique offering of OKONOMIYAKI that is not common in Texas. It is Japanese comfort food that you really can't go wrong with. Good ambiance, decent service, I think the only gripe I have with Chinchikurin would be the price for what you are getting. While the food was solid, it was not stand out to me, nor was it worth the price. If you are set on trying okonomiyaki specifically, this would be a good choice, if you are just looking for good value food, there are better options. Would I Go Out of My Way to Try? No Would I Return? No Food Taste- 6/10 Ambiance - 8/10 Service - 9/10 Value- 6/10

It was such a welcoming place even though we are not japanese/Korean/Chinese but the servers were A+. I went with my husband and baby. From the moment we entered to stepped out, they greeted us so warmly took care of us and spend good time explaining the dishes and recommending too. Now when you look at their menu, you will only or mostly see noodles dishes in main course but don't be disappointed, their noodles dishes are like a proper well fed dish. We went with three server suggestee dishes. 1. spicy goam+++- oh my my, I instantly fell in love with it. Too good, even though we had the soft noodles, there was a crunchiness in the dish that beats any noodle dish I have tried so far. The cabbage and chicken base with fish sauce was perfect. Almost everything is a little pricey but worth it. 2. Garlic shrimp - Didn't like much garlic (too salty for me) 3. but enjoyed their cheesy fries with that spicy sauce- yummy! ++ 4. Goat curry (our pick) was ok! + On top of service and food, their place is cool and classy, too neat and smells good but not too goodish. Decent crowd and plenty space! We have already planned to visit again and try their other dishes...

Refreshing Surprise - Passion & Care…read more I was down the street getting a haircut and had a craving for sushi, so I opened Yelp, spotted Kanzi, and decided to swing by. I'm so glad I did. Kanzi is one of those refreshing surprises: an approachable neighborhood sushi spot that clearly cares about the details. They may not be trying to be an ultra high-end omakase destination with otoro and uni, but what they do offer, they execute with care, precision, and pride. The fish was clearly well stored and well cared for, and the cuts were clean and thoughtful. I tried the red snapper, eel, mackerel, yellowtail, masago, super white tuna with fresh wasabi, and one roll: the no-rice Cool Hawaiian. I'll post a few pictures as well because the presentation really deserves it. I sat at the bar and had the chance to talk with Hong, the chef preparing my food. I learned that he took over the restaurant from his brother and still visits sushi restaurants around DFW at least twice a week to keep learning, tasting, and improving his own craft. That told me everything I needed to know. There is real passion here. Hong believes the details matter, from a clean bathroom to the right Japanese knife, specially purchased for left-handed use. That kind of care shows up in the food and in the overall experience. Go visit Kanzi, sit at the bar if you can, and tell Hong that Tait says hello -- and thank you. Pro Tip: Kanzi is currently BYOB. There is a liquor store right across the parking lot, literally within about 50 feet. Walk in, head to the cooler on the far right, grab a cold bottle of sake, and bring it back with you. Kanzi has sake cups ready to go, which makes the whole experience even better.

We came to a hibachi grill to order normal hibachi/Japanese food. Fried rice should not cost extra, especially $5.00 extra per person!! Anyway, I ordered fried rice with shrimp and ribeye. The menu is surprisingly big, offering a variety of dishes that cover all the bases, but what caught my eye was the Hibachi. I had just been to Benihana last week, so I figured this would be a fun comparison and ordered the Hibachi Chicken. A few minutes later, my meal was brought out by the young lady working the counter--who also happened to be pregnant and absolutely glowing. She had the kind of upbeat, welcoming personality that instantly makes you feel like you made the right choice coming in. Friendly service goes a long way for me, and she turned what could've been just another quick meal into something memorable. The food itself was delicious. If you enjoy Benihana-style flavors, this hits the mark--minus the chef flipping shrimp tails into his hat. The chicken was tender, the veggies were cooked just right, and with two sauces on the side, it had that perfect balance of savory and satisfying. This place is a great local option when you want something tasty without the long wait or fanfare. I'll definitely be back, and next time I might explore more of that menu that tempted me from the start. A solid little hidden gem in Allen worth pulling over for. I give this place my famous "Arnold Schwarzenegger" quote, "I'LL BE BACK"

Unfortunately, everything went downhill when it was time to pay. When we asked for the check, our server Luis brought a handheld device showing a total of $852, with no itemized breakdown and no option to review or add a tip. This immediately felt off. I went to the front to ask about splitting the bill between four people, which is a very normal request in the restaurant industry. The host gave us a hard time and insisted they couldn't split it, which made no sense. When Luis came over, I explained again that we wanted to split the check four ways. He suddenly said, "of course," which contradicted what we were just told. Then he asked me how much the total was which was confusing because he had the bill right there on his device. I had already seen the actual total was $719.33 before. He then took the device to the back, came back, and showed us $213.07 per person. That raised a red flag. I went back and asked for receipts and sure enough, he had added a 20% tip to all four cards without our knowledge or consent. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, Terry, who claimed that Luis told him we had agreed to tip 20%, which is completely false. Terry was unprofessional, kept stuttering, and instead of resolving the issue, asked, "well how much would you like to tip Luis?" completely missing the point. We were never given the option to tip in the first place. When I pushed for a resolution, he hung up. We even asked to speak with the general manager, Carmen, or at least get a reference number for the complaint, but that was not provided. As someone who comes from the restaurant industry, I find this behavior completely unacceptable. Adding gratuity without consent and then lying about it is dishonest and unethical. The lack of accountability from management made it even worse. Great food and chef, but extremely poor service from our server Luis and terrible management by Terry. I would not recommend this location based on this experience.
