Honestly I am very pleasantly surprised. Staff- SUPER efficient. There was a middle aged Latin gentleman who was so kind and quick! He had a speed that left me in shock. There was a girl picking up plates all around. They cleaned the tables up quickly. I was super impressed. Water was constantly refilled, food was quickly coming. This was a 5 star experience especially when you consider it's AYCE. Quick recap Spicy edamame- actually spicy, lol Steak nigiri- husband loved it Shrimp nigiri- husband loved it California roll- good! Can't go wrong here. Butterfly kiss- I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I think the crab meat didn't taste as soft and sweet as some of the other sushi restaurants have. Chicken Karagge- I think it's the frying oil I'm not crazy about Yummy yummy- they were so BIG! 4 rolls but so big. Half the size would be perfect. Taste was good. Fish quality was perfect and my personal favorite to accompany that was their miso soup; it tasted fresh and very aromatic, unlike the usual powdered soup I've had elsewhere. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Sushi Kushi is located in Carrollton in one of the many new strip malls with Asian shop. Inside, you wait to be seated. There appears to be a large dining room, but it was full (a sign the restaurant is good), but we were placed in a side room. Not an issue except for another table with loud children nearby. 1/2 Star. Service - Since the room sits outside the main area, Sushi Kushi uses a button on each table to request a server. Either the button on our table didn't work, or the staff were slow. As a result, it took longer than normal to put in our order. 1/2 Star. Food - Now, the good news is the sushi is very good for an AYCE place. Unlike buffets where rolls sit out, the sushi at Sushi Kushi is made to order. I preferred the nigiri and sashimi, especially the Hamachi (yellow tail), sake (salmon), and seared beef. So glad we came here!! The sushi was delicious! We ordered à la carte instead of AYCE, but we will definitely be back with a big appetite for AYCE. The salmon nigiri was the star of the show for me, sooo yummy! Everything tasted great though. We each got 3 rolls and shared the spicy edamame (which was, in fact, pretty spicy). The service is unique here, as each table has a button you press when you want to order or need something. It felt a little weird to be ringing the bell for service like that, but all of the servers were extremely attentive and friendly. The inside is nice as well, with the sushi bar in sight and plenty of tables. They also had a tv playing a movie which I thought was fun. The rice is nicely seasoned with vinegar and it just tastes delicious! I loved the eel nigiri because it was savory and sweet, as well as the spicy hotate (raw spicy scallop) because it was creamy and also fresh The calamari we had was the best calamari I've ever had! It had tempura batter, and you'd expect the squid to be chewy but it was actually very soft and delicious! Baked mussels were also a 10/10 although a bit cold. Very good though!! Spider roll was okay, it was crunchy and good but a little fishy since it's soft shelled crab. The dai dai roll was quite refreshing and good! The lemon adds some tart to it but there were quite a few pieces (8 pcs) so I don't recommend ordering if you are eating by yourself. Crazy nachos were good! Tuna was fresh but this was a bit too spicy for my liking (diablo sauce). Good with eel sauce though! The service was okay, the waitresses and servers were mostly nice but missed some of our orders. This place has gone downhill since their management changed. The wait time to get food is much longer. We had so many errors tonight. Food that I ordered never made it to our table. Food I didn't order was attempted to be placed on our table, multiple times. We were in the main hall. Water was constantly refilled which was great. But people would try to clear our plates clearly when we're still eating from them. We would push the button but would have to push it multiple times to get anyone's attention. The size of the nigiri's have gotten smaller. Which is unfortunate bc now it takes double the time to get your food out to you. I have a love-hate relationship with anything AYCE, but especially sushi. Let's all be real. AYCE Korean BBQ, hot pot, sushi or anything meat heavy always has me wondering about the quality. You can't have wild caught seafood or regenerative beef wagyu A5 for everything on the menu at the price of $40 a person. You just can't, I don't care what people say. So I think if you go into the meal knowing that and not expecting your meat/fish to have been an MTI graduate and pampered since birth, you'll be okay, but I suspect most people just want something that doesn't taste spoiled and a lot of it. That was a long way of saying, I was hesitant to pull the trigger on this place because I am someone who is usually more quality over quantity, but I heard enough about this place to try it. First the cons: I noticed all of the things I generally don't care for at any AYCE sushi place. The ginger/wasabi was the low-quality kind you find everywhere, the cocktails I ordered were terrible (just stick with beer) and some of the pieces we ordered were not consistent. But I was expecting that going in and so was prepared. Pros: the food was all pretty decent. The only times I really eat sushi rolls is when I'm at a place like this, so we ordered one to get our mayo intake for the month and the rest were sashimi or nigiri pieces. Pepper in some hot appetizers and we left feeling extremely full and satisfied. One thing that I really did love was the presentation. It makes it feel a lot fancier when the food comes out on a wooden boat serving platter than on little plates so brownie points for that. I will say that we ordered pretty much the same thing from round one and two, but the first round was definitely had more of the higher quality pieces (fattier pieces, smoked this and that, etc.) but I get it. Can't serve all of the premo stuff each time. We will definitely be back. And also, a shout out to the amazing staff. But for the carrollton area i think its the best option for ayce. I think our favorite pieces were the spicy scallop nigiri, seared salmon, and the garlic tuna. I took my family here for my birthday and all I can say is wow. This place absolutely lived up to the hype. First off, the ambiance was awesome. We got there right when they opened, grabbed seats at the bar, and immediately loved the vibe. One of the first things I noticed was there were at least six sushi chefs behind the counter. If you've ever been to an AYCE sushi restaurant, you know why that's a big deal. More sushi chefs usually means you're not sitting around forever waiting for your next round, and that was definitely the case here. From the moment we walked in, Andrew made us feel welcome. I think he may have been the floor manager, but whatever his role was, his hospitality was outstanding. Even with a graduation party going on and the restaurant being incredibly busy, he checked on us throughout the meal and made us feel like we were the only table there. Then he surprised us with something really special. He brought over four pieces of premium bluefin tuna with fresh real wasabi and took the time to explain where the tuna came from and what made it unique. That kind of personal touch takes an already great experience and makes it memorable. Now for the food. The fish to rice ratio was exactly what you want. The quality of the fish was outstanding and everything tasted incredibly fresh. One of my favorite bites of the night was the Hotate scallop nigiri. You almost never see that at an AYCE sushi place, and it was fantastic. The salmon was phenomenal too. Honestly, everything we ordered was excellent. Our favorite appetizer had to be the mussels. We ended up ordering them more than once because they were that good. Considering how packed the restaurant was, I was seriously impressed with how quickly everything came out. The service never skipped a beat. Andrew mentioned they recently changed owners earlier this year. I never had the chance to visit under the previous ownership, but if this is what the new ownership is doing, they are absolutely knocking it out of the park. If you're looking for great all you can eat sushi, put Sushi Kushi on your list. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top tier. Andrew, thank you for making our first visit so memorable. I went during lunch, and it was $30 a person. Their appetizers and hot food are really good. I recommend getting a lot of their seared salmon nigiri. They were definitely my favorite. I would skip the tuna nigiri, but the regular salmon nigiri was really good as well. The eel nigiri was good. They didn't put an overbearing amount of rice which was nice. Glad I decided to try them out again several years later because now my husband and I have been consistently going every few weeks. I'm usually whatever about AYCE sushi but Sushi Kushi does it right -- good quality food and pricing is really reasonable. I mean, AYCE sashimi? They have a really great selection of menu items. We typically go for the seared salmon nigiri and salmon nigiri. On one of our visits, we were given a plate of toro sashimi which just brought back all the memories of my previous trips to Japan...but the kicker was the tuna wasn't even from anywhere near there. The menu with some images provided is different than the actual order sheet. Many , and I mean MANY items were not INCLUDED. We asked about uni, ankimo, fatty tuna, yellowtail collar, and sweet shrimp. Well, we were told NONE of these were available OR requires additional fee... they didn't bother to mention that from the menu nor make correction. We were told they can offer tuna toro on the house, except 10 minutes later we were told it wouldn't come in until later that day(we arrived at 5pm). I have not heard of deliveries at night especially for fish but oh well... The fish here has very little taste, I have never tasted scallops without any sweetness to it, until now. They did sear the scallops a little bit which was a nice touch, but flavorless scallop is just flavorless. Tasted like rubber. The soft shell crab was not only very oily and super tiny, but taste is also bad. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. If you come earlier on in the evening, you don't really need to wait at all, we were able to be seated pretty immediately! The menu is pretty extensive, but the ayce is pretty worth it because you can just try everything! The servers are pretty attentive in coming when you need them and they bring out your new order pretty quickly. I love that they have a button for you to just call your server over because then they're only checking in on you when you actually need them. This is the best AYCE sushi place I've been to. I heard the ownership changed in the last few months, and the food and service were both amazing. Unlike other places that set insane limits or try to fill you up on rice, this place is the real deal: you can order plenty of sashimi per round (I think it was 5 per person for each type of fish), and the quality is great. That said, I do have an ick. The staff check on me and clear out plates too often and too fast. I order 8 items in total. Every time I chew the last piece on a plate, someone will come by and take the plate away immediately. Then, someone else also comes by and check if they can take the paper order. That happened at least 4 times when I was there. Until I say I don't need to order more, they immediately drop the check when I, again, am with food in my mouth.
