Kayla was an excellent server. It was my first time and I wasn't so sure of the menu. She made sure to help me find something i liked. I'm very picky by the way. So you can thank her for the 5 star rating! read more

I really don't go to these kind of places anymore but when visiting the area with friends we decided to go with them. The prices you pay for here are outrageous for the quality of food. When we arrived we had to wait 15 mins even though we had a reservation. I immediately noticed how dirty the lighting fixtures were at our table. One of the members of our party told the waiter he had a severe seafood allergy yet when the chef came out he started mixing the seafood and other food together. That is unacceptable. It was not the chef's fault but he has to take time to clean everything. The waiter we had was super slow and we had to ask twice for sake glasses. Overall would not recommend this chain at all. read more

I came to Benihana on my vacation with my husband to enjoy some sushi and a man with a hoodie walked up to my table who I thought was a complete stranger but turned out to be my server, at first I was uncomfortable and find it very unprofessional, not a good look for the establishment. read more

Okay let me start off by saying I am very disappointed. I love me some Benihana, but the one in this location fell short. Our waitress was rude, she sat us at a table with a group of three that happened to be allergic. We requested to move to another table so we wouldn't be affected by the way their food had to be cooked. She ignored our request and seemed to cater to the other group more and even lied saying they were not allergic so there food could be cooked outside. Simple stuff like bringing us water was an issue. Aside from the waitress, our Chef Fabian was amazing. He was very personable and cooked the food to our request. read more

From the moment we walked in you can tell this business is run down . I had a better experience in aruba then I did here in the USA . We had multiple waiters and the one we had couldn't get it right . My boyfriend asked for brown rice and she said he couldn't get it and he asked for white rice and it came out with fried rice and then we asked for the white rice and she responded no if is fried rice . Rude and lazy didn't seem to want to do her job . We asked for the manager and she didn't understand why . The manager did the right thing but the service before that was not acceptable. Will not be returning to this location read more

Food was great, service was EH at best and was schooled by my server about how I'm not entitled to a dessert, but said she'd give me my dessert if I wanted it, then why bother opening your mouth from the start! Lastly, and should have been addressed first, bathrooms had feces all over seats and after 4 times asking to clean them, they only cleaned one, since other was now out of service and needed a plumber to come and fix it. This is the only benihana that has older bathrooms. Time for an upgrade??? Benihana Corporate sent me this because they feel I complain too much, aka they don't want to hear anything I have to say, but just take my money. WOULD THAT BE ACCEPTABLE TO YOU AND YOUR HARD EARNED INCOME??? I gave Benihana's a perfect cake and when it was time to sing they presented us with our $40 cake that they forgot to put in the freezer as requested. My kid was hysterical!!! I called and asked if they will hold our ice cream cake when I made my reservation and was told that it was not a problem. Also there were 5 people at the front, they took my cake (that was in a cold stone bag) and stated that they understood it was ice cream. Manny the manager did nothing to resolve this issue except to say "I'm sorry" and "next time we will no longer accept ice cream cakes. The night was ruined the only positive was our waiter Peter. Great service. Time of my life for my kids. Not only great tricks but great food. The ambiance is amazing fells like home. HIBACHI!!!!

I went with my friend to the Benihana at Edison, NJ. I gave them my birthday coupon prior to ordering. I thought the coupon state I need to purchase one dinner entree which will not be included to the $30 coupon. I order the steak dinner entree, two drinks, two soups, two chicken fried rice, one sushi plate and the shrimp tempera. However, at the end of the meal I believe it was the manager came to me and said that I HAVE too order two dinner entree to receive the coupon. I think the manager did not understand the coupon since Benihana FAQ stated "I only eat sushi. How can I redeem the Birthday Certificate? As long as you are dining with a guest who purchases an adult teppan entrée, the discount will be applied to any sushi items you may order." "If I dine alone, does that mean I can't use the Birthday Certificate? You may still redeem your $30 Birthday Certificate. You may either order a second entrée or you may choose any of our delicious sushi rolls, side orders, dessert or non-alcoholic beverages and those items will be discounted up to $30." Well thank you Edison Benihana manager for giving me hard time and attitude for your lack of professionalism and knowledge. read more

The wait was long even though the restaurant was not crowded (weeknight). We got the hibachi chicken (teriyaki, hibachi and spicy chicken). They were all a bit dry if you don't use the sauce. I drenched mine in the sauce. My husband didn't like the sauces so he got stuck with dry chicken. I was appalled at the amount of butter they used. Don't know why they had to add butter to EVERYTHiNG. The dinner included shrimp, onions, corn, squash (or zucchini)- each item was cooked in a slab of butter. Also, fried rice, chicken and Lo mein. Again each item cooked in a separate slab of butter. The show was ok, nothing more than the typical hibachi show. Place was pricey. Fried rice, Lo mein are all up charges. read more

UGH!!!! I do not think it was worth the money at all. The dishes are pricey and the entertainment was not up to par....I feel like when paying for Hibachi I want more interaction with the chef. Additionally, the waiter my table had was VERY condescending and I hated it. When you tell him how you want your food he either questions you or he tells you how its good or make a weird face. I PAY FOR YOU TIP AND MY FOOD! Furthermore, he was telling our table about the horrible tip that they left and how they were a hard time....why would you do that? So our table leaves a better tip? HMM....ok. However my party of three tipped well because the Chef was good and the others who were around. FOOD Not as good as it could be for the price. Scallion onion and mushroom soup is the "appetizer" but I did not like it. To each their own. Their sauces are good. DRINKS Pretty good! The bartender had his own specialty which was amazing it had a peach ciroc base. Prices were decent I had a drink and a shot and it was 21. They did not have mango or passion fruit puree for the two drinks I wanted so I seemed to have struck out. I would recommend if you are in the mood to pay a lot of money for a mediocre night. read more

Oh Benihana. I'd like to think better of you, but something always misses the mark. Too high prices for mediocre food, waits for already empty tables, and never friendly (though fairly prompt) service all work against you. I've been to this Benihana many times both at the hibachi tables and at the regular restaurant side. More often than not, you will need to wait 30-60 mins to be seated. The hibachi area is a popular destination for large groups of birthday celebrators especially on weekends. The hibachi dinner meals are the best bang for your buck (including a brothy onion soup, small salad, hibachi shrimp, veggies, fried rice, and then entree of meat, chicken, fish or additional veggies). A la carte orders are all steep mostly $28-32 for entrees that are just ok. Last night I had a spicy salmon sushi roll for about $8. It was fine, but basically the same roll I could have at a sushi house for $4. We did eat here because my girlfriends wanted the Volcano roll. Basically a Philly roll (smoked salmon and cream cheese) deep fried with a slice of jalapeño on top. No doubt they were good, but for $13 they should be. Most rolls do feature some sort of cooked or fried element now that I think of it. Service has never had smiles here. Whether at the hibachi or general seating, servers are clipped, short, and at times obviously unimpressed with requests (lady we just wanted plain fried rice for a side when we couldn't eat meat!). Still rather efficient though. Hibachi chefs are something of a performance which is fun, but I feel like they are all secretly miserable. I'd recommend going elsewhere, but somehow this place has consistent business. You're better served finding a local restaurant with more authentic, better tasting foods at better prices. Plus, you smell like fried stuff when you leave - not cute for going out after. read more

First time going to this restaurant after my cousin highly recommended it and truthfully I am disappointed. The hostess changed our expected table ETA from 15 mins to 30 mins to close to an hour when I had to call THEM to receive an update on my table. Then they seated us at the hibachi table when all we wanted was to sit at a regular table. Apparently they were understaffed and wouldn't be able to take care of us. This restaurant is an unfortunate facade. I won't be returning or recommending. read more

This was my first and last time going to any Benihhana. We waited over an hour to sit down. We waited by the bar. The bartender was probably 18 and she clearly had never tended a bar before. She had a hard time making drinks and taking orders. Once we sat down our server was clearly overwhelmed. I don't blame him but he was slow with our order and our drinks. We had to ask him for water 3 times. Finally the food was not worth the wait. The chef was boring. He said he wasn't allowed to do any tricks. He didn't use any garlic or seasoning. He cooked with salt, pepper, and soy sauce. That's not very "authentic". The chicken was bland. They said the shrimp appetizer was 5 shrimp. It was 3. The worst part is they upcharge for fried rice and noodles. The hibachi meals only include soup, salad, and white rice. I've never been to a hibachi restaurant that charges extra for noodles and fried rice. Their hibachi meals are also more expensive. I can not and will not recommend Benihhana to anyone ever for any reason. Edison has so many better options for hibachi or japensese food. read more

Benihana - Edison - Unseasoned chicken, Bland noodles & Burnt zucchini. - Japanese Near Me - Edison, New Jersey

They do Hibachi seating and table seating if you don't want to deal with that Hibachi setting. The prices are exactly the same and so is the food. Obviously you don't get the show at a regular table but the food comes out a bit faster. Their sushi is very lackluster. It's not gross...but it is boring. They have mostly super Americanized items (all avocado/cucumber/crab stick). Everything else looked very boring, and the selection is very small overall. I had Yellowtail and Scallion roll. It was ok. Nothing special. Definitely not worth the price. Most of the rolls seem to be on the expensive side. Average quality + average serving size + high price = don't get sushi. The food is pretty good. Chicken isn't dry, but not the tenderest/moistest either. Same for the steak. Serving size is more than enough to get you full. The veggies and noodles are yummy. I don't think hibachi is worth the price (more than 20$ per person + drinks). It is fun the first time but after that...it is hard to talk to the people you are with and if your group isn't big enough you sit with strangers. I'm not big on that. They do however offer very cheap lunch specials! 7-10$ person (+drinks) and you can sit at a table or at the hibachi! That's unbeatable. If you must go, go at lunch time and you'll save more than 50%. It's the EXACT same food. read more

I have a Benihana's in my own town, but often go to this place. As a kid growing up I like to think of Benihanas as a treat that I did once every 9 months, with my coworkers, we go once every 5 weeks and you can't say no to the group outing. The food is always good, and you always get plenty. How people order extra noodles or an extra soup is beyond me, but it adds up quickly. Hibachi lunch will be around $12-14 as well as a lunch boat. There is no sushi lunch special and watching your coworkers eat the hibachi while you get a mesly roll and salad does not stack up. Don't try coming with more than 8-10 people, you won't fit at one table. I'd like to think this place is average, but I'll be nice and give it a 4. read more

It's Hibachi. You go for a show but the food is just ok. I feel like after a while the chefs have a hard time being excited about running the same script. Food and service not good. Will not go there again. Very expensive and not worth it.

Had a great time at the Edison location. The food was excellent and the waiter Ollie was very attentive. I will be returning soon!!

If I could give negative stars I would. There isn't an Asian person working here forget about Japanese. 20 minute wait on Sunday at 2PM followed by 25 minutes wait for a wait. Don't have the sushi roll I ordered. Here's a soup. Served drinks with dirty cups on the same plate. Served bottled Pelegríno with said dirty cups. The epitome of why corporations fail so hard versus small businesses who work with pride. read more

I've been to hibachi restaurants before, however, this was my first time to Benihana. When I walked in they said it would be a 15 min wait, but we were seated within 5 minutes which was a bonus! The atmosphere inside is good, and the servers are great! They have several different chefs who come to make the food for you. I took notice that a lot of them were much more communicative and funnier than ours. But it's ok. He did a good job! Here is my only gripe. While it's probably not practical to use different spatulas when handling certain foods, they use the same spatula while cooking ALL meats, including the shrimp and scallops. As a person allergic to seafood I was freaking out in my head. He was cooking everything (chicken, shrimp, scallops, green onions) and cutting everything with the same knife. I did express my concerns, but it didn't seem to register to him. Unfortunately, a lot of my food went wasted except for my fried rice and onions -- which tasted great! read more

Food was over cooked! Took a chance going there I figure they would separate people at the hibachi table that didn't happen! I was so lucky to have seated at my table 3 disgusting people!! You know blowing his nose right at the table and putting his empty plates all over..I should of left at that point rather than tell him how disgusting he was...so I won't visit or order from here again. I mean really you can't cook on the hibachi grill why are you even working there..Oh and you can't get a knife any more there either! Place needs to be updated and cushions in the waiting room replaced or clean them! All in all it was awful!!!!! read more

Setting - Restaurant was very open with good lighting and appropriate ambiance for a hibachi restaurant. Food - Food was typical nothing that jumped out at you on the menu. I'd like to preface by saying that the staff was doing their best with the circumstances at hand, however the manger on duty ran the establishment abysmally. Parties were waiting an hour PAST their reservation time, and parties with odd numbers of patrons were passed over for even number parties. We arrived nearly ten minutes early for our reservation at 8:00 pm, However by 8:40 pm the staff informed us that they had no idea if we would be able to be seated anytime soon. There were six parties with 8:00 pm reservations still waiting by 8:45 pm, and one party that had been waiting since 7:30 pm. We left, with no plans of returning. There is too much competition in the area to waste our time at an establishment that clearly has no regard for their patrons or the concept of reservations. read more

Ordered food from Benihana in Edison. They forgot to put my chicken fried rice in the order. that I paid for I called the manager to complain. Had to sit on the phone for 10 minutes till I got him and the only thing he was gonna do was give me chicken fried rice after I have to drive all the way back there a half hour to pick it up and then a half hour all the way home not willing to do anything else, I asked him who the general manager is would not give me the information I told him I'll give him a call back when I'm on my way so he can make it cause I was gonna eat the rest of my food first try calling there to talk to him Sat on the phone for over 10 minutes never came on the phone got disconnected. Try calling back, so picked up the phone and hung up three times on me then when someone answered the phone, they told me to call back in 10 minutes to talk to him I said I'll be there already to pick up my food just put in the order so I can pick up my chicken fried rice, they told me hold on again. I ended up arriving before I even got to talk to him when I got there I had to wait 10 minutes for the rice then he told me he had them pack the container as much that would fit in there when I got home and opened it it was only half full.
