Went in here to get some polarized lenses for my gentle monster glasses which have rhinestones and one of the men said they could do it in 30 minutes. At first they looked great but I brought them into my optician and she noticed gaps between the frame and glasses and noticed also noticed a rhinestone was missing and told me they need to redo them. I went in to go try and see if I could get them redone with the right lenses that fit. The man said they don't want to work on my glasses anymore and then I asked if I could get a refund since the glasses weren't done correctly and he said to leave and look for someone else to do them. They were so rude about it when I went in and said they weren't responsible for breaking of a rhinestone on my glasses which they 100% are since all of them were there when before I left for them to work on my glasses. I don't care about the money but it's the fact they couldn't take responsibility for messing up my glasses. read more

Benchworks Optical - Gaps between the frames and lenses - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Mountain View, California

I had 2 great experiences with Benchworks Optical: (i) I purchased new lenses through them that they were able to fit into my old glasses (other optics I tried said they would not be able to do so), and (ii) They fixed my other glasses frame. The work in both cases was professional, fast, and affordable. read more

I broke my glasses and needed a new pair urgently since all of my old pairs were the wrong prescription. I called George at Benchworks and stopped by on a Thursday. I had a new pair of glasses with progressive bifocal lenses on Tuesday morning. I could not be happier with the service and how quickly the glasses came back. The location is right in the El Camino Hospital complex with easy access to parking. The price for the frames and lenses was much better than most places in the area. read more

George & Rick are the best opticians you'll find, full stop. Their location may strike you as unusual--in a medical office park in the shadow of El Camino Hospital--though it makes sense to me. They have all the properties you would look for in a surgeon: unmatched knowledge, mad skills, straight talk, and steady hands. If you need an optician, look no further (pun intended)! read more

My amazing doctor referred me to this establishment so I Decided to go there But Google wouldn't recognize how to get me there maybe because they're in a complex with all kinds of different buildings It took me to building 6 So I called but the grumpy guy on the phone Kind of turned me off but when I said thank you and he just hung up on my face I just kept on drivin. Life is too damn short to be dealing with grumpy unhelpful people read more

Great service and support with reasonable pricing. What more can I say... Both I and some friends I've referred, have had good experiences with Benchworks. Now if only they had a little better selection of styles. But I and my friends will continue to be customers. Keep up your good work Benchworks read more

Seriously, I love George. With over 35 years of experience he is very skillful and works quickly. Cheap! Cheaper than Costco or anybody else by wide margin. Buy any frame you want online and let them put the lens in. Save a bundle on frames and lens. Wrap around sunglasses you say? Most places have never even heard of inserts. They do it! (Inserts are adapters to add prescriptions to curved sunglasses.) Total cost less than 200 vs. over 400 WITH the sunglasses. (I chose Tifosi) Cheap, fast, lovable people, I don't know what else to say. The place can be a little difficult to find, and it reminds me of the storage room of my high school chemistry class. Don't think they do walk ins, so please call ahead. read more

I needed new lenses however my frames were in excellent condition. I might need cataract surgery in less than a year so my prescription would change so I did not want to pay $500 or more for just lenses as many opticians would charge. I found Benchworks on line and George asked me to read the numbers on my frame so my lenses could be preordered so I only had to drive 50 miles to Benchworks one time, waited 30 minutes after measurements were done and I had my appropriate prescription. The two guys were personable and professional. So worth dealing with Benchworks as I saved hundreds of dollars. I would highly recommend them. read more

I'm so happy to be able to wear my sunglasses again! Rick was able to repair them when several other larger establishments failed at the task. I highly recommend this establishment for all your optical need!!! read more

Boy am I glad I met George conviniently after I scratched my 3 month old glasses. I had VSP, but since I had already used it I had to pay out of pocket. I learned I could save money going directly with George instead of an eyeglass shop. All I had to do is send him my prescription and give him my old frames. He even fixed my emergency glasses free of charge. I saved money and he did a great job. I paid extra for the scratch free this time. 3 months later and I'm scratch free! read more

I don't have vision insurance coverage, so cost is particularly important to me, in addition to quality. I continue to go to George at Benchworks when my prescription changes, not only because I know they will take care of putting new lenses in my frames in a timely and affordable fashion (with a friendly smile), but also because George and Benchworks support charity in their community. If that were not enough to warrant this business recommendation, they are on the front lines of technology when it comes to mitigating the impact of frequent exposure to blue light (computers, TVs, and cell phones, anyone?). They care about preserving their customers' vision and their community's vision for the long-term -- take a long lunch break and ask George to tell you (and show you!) what he knows and how you can save your precious eyesight with some of their lenses. read more

Run by a cranky old codger with a more than a touch of dementia/retardation. Has the business and social skills of a moss-backed sloth. Yes you can get glasses from him, but prepare for sloppy, casual indifference instead of anything approaching real-world competence. Their frames quality and selection are second-rate: mine from Benchworks had a failed weld within 6 months; replacements were too pricey. Final answer: go either to Costco, or go online to Zenni Optical: better service, selection, and technical performance. read more

I chipped a lens on my main glasses, shortly after having used my annual insurance for a pair of sunglasses. My optician wanted $298 to replace them. Benchworks charged $105, had them next-day and only needed my frames for 30 minutes. This is in stark contrast to our optician, who we like, but is both expensive and takes 1-2 weeks for the same operation, during which time I'd be without my latest prescription. The optician does have additional overheads, but the service (for replacing lenses) isn't a spot on Benchworks'. Rick and George are friendly and made the process of replacing my lenses hassle free. Whenever we need lenses outside of our insurance, we'll be back. read more

These guys are amazing! If you have your prescription and want to get an amazing deal on glasses, this is the place to go. I learned how much money is made by Optometrists on glasses. Get your prescription and take it to the team at Benchworks! They are fair, honest, and the quality of their work is A+++.. read more

I brought my eye-glass prescription to George and he helped me pick out fames that fit my face and complimented my coloring. I love my new glasses and got my designer frames (and lenses) for much less than if I had ordered them through my optomitrist (who knows and recommends George and Benchworks). I've since brought my contact lens presciption to George and he quickly got me what I needed at a price I couldn't get anywhere else. read more

George was very friendly and particularly accommodating to my schedule. The Jones New York glasses he made me with anti-reflective lenses (just $150!!) were ready in just a day or two. He even offered to drive to my work place to drop them off for me. No need since he opened his shop during a time I could come - a little earlier than usual - just to help me out. read more

I had my eye exam done at Target Optical Santa Clara and Dr. Christine Yang was great. However, after reading the reviews I did not feel comfortable about changing my lens with Target. I love my frame and didn't feel like they would care about them since they sell frames as well. Searching for lens replacement at Yelp, I found Benchworks and convinced by the other reviews I went there. It was a great experience: Rich and George are lovely people, my glasses were ready as fast as 2 days later (Target wanted me to wait 7-9 business days) and they charged me 40% of Target's price. And you can feel that they care about your glasses. I strongly recommend you to go there if you need a new lens or any repair! read more

These guys absolutely ROCK. I met George in a continuing ed short course on business, and he happened to have a card. I tossed it in my pile of such things until I needed new glasses. At the time I'd been going to another optical shop for years, where the people were helpful but the prices really hurt. So I decided to give Benchworks a try. The difference astounded me. At the other shop, they had a huge selection of frames that were never right. I always ended up having them order things from catalogs. Benchworks doesn't have a huge selection, but I took a quick look at the first box and the perfect frame jumped right out at me. And it was available in different colors, important since I have different prescriptions for driving and computer work. But my amazement continued, because I had a choice in lens manufacturers! A thinner, lighter lens was available for a little more money, but they gave me the choice. And then I was absolutely floored by the final cost, which was LESS THAN HALF of what I'd been paying at the other shop. A few months later my husband needed new glasses, and he had a very similar experience. A good friend also got her glasses there, and had a similar experience. They're also always happy to see me to adjust my glasses, since I tend to bend them over time. I couldn't imagine shopping anywhere else for glasses now. read more

I accidently bent my glasses while on call... I walked across the street and they fixed them on the spot! Great service!

These guys are great. If you are looking for lenses in a pair of glasses that you love, these guys are it! While they do have a selection of glasses to choose from, they are limited. I buy my frames elsewhere and have Benchworks do my lenses. They do transitions, high index, whatever you need. The quality is great and you won't find cheaper! They are not your usual one stop retail shop. They are a couple of guys that machine the lenses right there. They do great work and you can't beat the price! They also do safety glasses or yellow lenses for computer eye strain. I have used them many times and will continue to do so! Thanks!! read more

The gentleman in this shop helped me installed the lens to my new frame without any charge. He is very friendly and has done great work.

Ricki and Geogre provided my an outstanding customer service when I was there for getting my new pair of prescription eye glasses. Not only the customer service was excellent, so were the price. With their great eye glasses skills and well prepared right equipments, I only waited 20 mins to get my new pair of glasses. And the price they charge is amazingly low that the work they've done. Thank you Benchworks! read more

They did a great job putting prescription in my Raybans

I've been shopping around for new lenses. These guys had the best turnaround, and the best prices. I'm pleased with the quality of their work read more

I purchased two pairs of glasses from Benchworks. The glasses were produced quickly (they have an onsite lab for some types of glasses). The people were capable and interacted well. When I've needed an adjustment, they were always willing to accommodate me immediately. The "office/lab" isn't fancy, but they get the work done. read more

Consistent quality! I went back to Benchworks for a new pair of prescription sunglasses and was not disappointed. The lens quality seems good, and the price is even less than Costco. Plus the glasses were ready in a few days. I'm already planning to have Benchworks fill my newest computer glasses prescription! read more

After Peninsula Optical was unable to get my progressive lenses comfortable ("You'll get used to it"), I found George and Rick at Benchworks. My reading glasses were ready the next day and the progressives the following day. And both were perfect; I could see again. The cost was about 1/3 what Peninsula had been charging me. read more

Impressive! I needed two new sets of lenses and one new frame and was dreading the cost. I had a family tip about Benchworks and can't say enough about their great work! The final price was dramatically lower than what I was facing through my provider. The lenses are perfect. My new frames look elegant and sophisticated. I agree with the other glowing reviews and that their work is top notch. read more

Need a pair of glasses? Don't look any further, go to Benchworks in Mountain View. Especially if you are tired of being tossed around in optical industries mass marketing tactics , go to Benchworks. When I first visited their office, I thought I time slipped to good old American shop in 1960's. There you will find Richard and George listening to the baseball/ football games on the radio and working consistently with love and care. They take pride in making glasses for those who need perfect pair for their eyes. I love what they stand for. They are responsible, honest and hard working guys. They'll never try to sell you overpriced frames unless you really have cravings for it. They'll try to make a pair in less than 24 hrs if it's emergency like when I lost my reading glasses and just couldn't find a spare. Quote is still hand written and it feels so good to shake hands and leave that office knowing that what they said they'll do will be done. read more

I was looking for a pair of replacement lenses and started calling around for places that weren't too expensive and where I wouldn't have to be without my glasses for several days. There weren't a lot of places. Lenscrafters was way too much and didn't have the lenses I wanted. After a bit of searching I found Benchworks and called them up. They have a small shop that's tucked away, but they do their own lens cutting quickly while I waited. Very helpful in picking out the lens, they really knew their stuff and did a good fitting job, and much less expensive than other local shops. Would definitely go back again. read more

Benchworks really does fine work. I've had alot of glasses made for me over a lifetime and their quality is unsurpassed. I always get a perfect pair of lenses from them. I highly recommend Benchworks, not just because they are friendly and accommodating, and priced right, but I want a good, comfortable lens to look through all day long and they really turn out a nice product. read more

I've needed new prescription lenses for the past 4 years, but just couldn't bring myself to pay the $600+ (thin lens, transition, anti-glare, etc) quoted by the optician who works for my eye doctor, much less buy new frames at an additional $200+. I finally got to the point that I had to replace my lenses, and thanks to other Yelpers, learned about Benchworks. I am ridiculously happy. I wanted to keep my existing frames, which Rick checked out said were fine, but they had a great selection of stylish, quality frames that I liked, and I'll be back to choose one for new sunglasses. Rick and George are expert technicians, but also helpful in advising on frame selection. The shop is clearly a working lab, not set up with any retail comforts. I hope they keep it that way so that those of us who appreciate the value and rare opportunity to work with people who know and love their craft, can continue to benefit. read more
