I had initially gone here to get my glasses fixed and they did it without any fuss and didn't charge me for it. So, when I needed new glasses, I went back here. From the moment we walked in, they were courteous, friendly and very engaged. I already had a prescription and two of the women who worked there actively engaged with me and gave me frank feedback on which frame suited my face etc. They provided helpful comments on why a frame did not suit me and what else might be a better fit. They also listened to how I would use the glasses (reading, computer etc.) and provided suggestions on they type of lenses. I was there for about 1/2 hour and the place was not very crowded but even so, there was plenty of staff to help. The place is located in a busy strip mall in Cupertino and parking can be hard to find, especially in the evening or weekends. My glasses are expected in one week! I have been to places where I had to call them after 2 months to find out why my glasses were not ready yet! I had a great experience and I highly recommend this place! read more

They've changed owners. I absolutely hate the stupid automated "AI assistant" you have to deal with anytime you call. Then you have to sit on hold after you get done swearing and dealing with the AI assistant. The guy, actual human, I got to talk to on the phone wasn't very friendly. They called me about changing my appt, saying no doctors were available. I called and they said they doctors were in now. I didn't recognize the dr's name, so I asked if I was scheduled to see Dr. Jennifer Lee like I have for several years. They said she was no longer there. I've finally tracked her down and will be going somewhere else. She is the best eye doctor I've ever been to. Worth driving to Fremont for, and guess what...when you call that office an actual human answers the phone. I never purchase frames here so I can't comment on that experience. I'm not sure if thing have changed this year (based on previous reviews), but the service my family and I received here was outstanding. From the time we walked in to the time we were done. This is the most thorough and organized place we have been to. They explain insurance very well. Other places we have been were never this detailed and would actually get information on our insurance wrong. Any questions we had were answered and everyone was very nice and friendly. This clinic is now under new management. The 2 stars are for Dr. Jesse Wang's patience, thorough checks and clear explanation. I had my eyes checked for glasses and contact lens prescriptions. Here comes the COMPLAINS: Disallowing exchange of unopened boxes of contact lens even if it is due to a change in prescription. Those were ordered from them, and expire in 2029 and 2030! A supposedly senior staff said unless I ordered them less than 3 months ago!? Who would normally change lens prescription within 3 months? Of course I didn't order new lens, besides now I have to finish boxes of lens of previous prescriptions. I ordered a pair of glasses instead. I went back to refit the glasses as it was too loose. At fitting, I was attended by the same "senior" staff. I was describing to her how I felt about how the new pair of glasses sits, she cut me off & said "1 thing at a time", and used an app to translate what I said? OMG! I spoke in English! Plus shouldn't she listen before making adjustments? If she can't understand English and won't listen in totality, why is she in customer service? She spoke and work so slowly. After wasted so much time waiting, she bent my glasses to the extend that when folded, one of the "arm" was so out of place, closing the case is a tight squeeze. Yet, she tried to bluff her way to call it normal! I paid $400+ out of pocket for a pair of glasses that won't fold nicely. I have owned countless pairs of glasses to know it is not normal. My family has been with this clinic for more than 10 years but our business will stop here. Don't treat your customers like they are stupid, I don't want to argue because I don't want to waste any more of my precious time to deal with unprofessional service like this. Fortunate to return to Vista Eye center and work with the new staff and remarkable capable Manager - Kim Ho. In addition to new glasses, needed a history review from past dealings ~ 2 years ago. Staff was unable to find records so asked Ms. Ho to help. She took on research into previous owner's confusing records, found and gave me a meaningful replacement. By the way, she used adaptive technology for us to communicate for as skilled, effective she is also deaf. Congratulations to management for allowing such a capable individual to advance. Placed an order for glasses in december. Was told theyd be done and ready by december 29th. Its January 8th, and still no glasses. Called them multiple times and the automated answer machine said it was still being shipped. Called them today and spoken with someone, she said the glasses arrived on December 20th and they didnt notify me at all. Admitted fault and said their computers didnt show they arrived...does no one check the shipments? Needles to say i won't be getting glasses from them again. Clearly their management and staff dont know how to do their jobs. Regardless of it not showing as arrived in a computer system, someone should have checked the shipments for incoming orders. I asked if they could do anything on their customer service end, as it was 3 weeks with no glasses. "We can ship it to you". I dont trust them to ship anything if they cant even receive shipments and check them. Do business with them at your own risk if you need glasses in a timely manner and in a promised time frame; stay away. read more

I had an amazing experience at Vista Eye Center Optometry, thanks to Melissa. My son has a rare eye condition that makes it really challenging to find the right sports glasses, especially for baseball. Melissa was incredibly helpful in reviewing different options and finding the best fit for his needs. She also gave us great advice on how to save on costs, which was much appreciated. Got my eye check up done and whoever i interacted with were so good! At the front desk, Melissa knows how to interact with customers and was so nice with my daughter even showing some frames as she was looking at pink ones. Shoutout to Louis who did my pre tests and was very courteous , also explained everything in detail. I've been a customer here for 6 years, and I think they are great. They are friendly, well-organized, efficient, and have a nice selection of frames. I recently got some prescription sunglasses from them, but the glasses didn't sit on my face the right way, and they weren't comfortable. I brought the glasses back in, and their staff spent about 30 minutes making careful adjustments to the glasses. Now the glasses fit perfectly on my face, and they are very comfortable. I'll keep coming back to this place year after year. I highly recommend them. read more

I had a negative experience with Dr. Jennifer Lee. First of all, her tone was very patronizing. She seemed impatient with me from the start, and anytime I brought up a clarifying question or concern, she made me feel stupid for even asking it. Secondly... I have high myopia. Rather than treating it like a serious medical condition, she kept making unnecessary comments about how terrible my eyes are. She even made jokes about having coke-bottle lenses and being an avid reader. Seriously? I just wanted treatment for my condition. I didn't come there to get roasted for having it. Overall I felt like she had a very unprofessional demeanor. She failed to create a compassionate environment for me as her patient, and that eroded my trust in her care. read more

Poor customer service, the person was rude. Yes, I did not have an appointment for filling up my prescription but one doesn't have to be rude just because I showed up. I have now taken appointment for Monday but I'm not sure if I will go there for prescription. My child's prescription was filled at this center and the nose pads were loose so wanted to get that fixed too. While those are adjustable but making an allegation that may be your child played with it or hung it over the head made it loose. My child is 15 years old and she doesn't play with her glasses. I was expecting those to be fixed without making any assumptions about how they loosened up, it's in warranty, period. read more

We've been visiting Vista Eye Center once a year for the past ten years. Dr. Koo is awesome! He's professional, patient and knowledgeable. The customer service from Tracie Le was also super. She is always prepared for our visit and confirmed our insurance benefits ahead of time for all our family members. They're very responsive to my e-mails and inquiries. I am an out-of-town visitor, and my eyeglasses broke: the pad fell off my nose piece. I called ahead and they said they couldn't be certain but they would trying to fix my glasses if I stopped in. I walked in and handed my glasses to a gentleman at the desk, and he took them and back to see if he could fix the part in spite of the fact that they didn't even sell this particular brand of glasses there. Just went in for an annual eye exam! Dr Jennifer Lee is professional and knowledgable as always. I am always impressed by the amount of care she put in with each patient care, doing everything single test from start to finish! Dr. Koo is great. Super friendly, knowledgable, and genuinely cares. It's almost like I'm not in for an appointment because the conversation is so friendly, and he actually remembers things I told him the year prior. He's able to get through my appointment fairly quickly, even though I needed extra tests for early evidence of glaucoma. His staff is friendly and they have a wide selection of glasses to choose from. Also, they take HSA to pay for glasses! I've been trying to find an optometrist for years now and I'm happy to say that I've found a practice that I'm completely satisfied with. I feel that Dr. Koo is someone who I can consistently go to and refer my family and friends to. He's very personable, has a wealth of knowledge about his profession, and takes good care of his patients. More importantly, he genuinely cares for his patients. Never have I felt rushed with my exam or selection of frames. Dr. Koo and his staff take their time to answer all of my questions and are always professional. I also like that they stay open late, 7pm on weekdays. It really helps with my work schedule. Their office is very clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Awful customer service. Be careful of their warranty, and DO NOT GET REFLECTIVE COATING on your glasses!! My husband bought a pair of prescription sunglasses from here which had special reflective coating on them. Exactly 3 weeks after the warranty expired, the coating began peeling off in chunks. We called them, and after much debate, they reluctantly sent them back to the manufacturer for new reflective coating. When they called us back to pick up the glasses, not only had they NOT put the new coating back on, the glasses were scratched when they scraped off the old coating. We asked to have them sent back to the manufacturer to at least have the coating applied this time. But were told they would not resend them back since they already sent them once - and there is nothing they can do. So now we have scratched glasses & no reflective coating that never got replaced. read more

Dr. Koo is great. Office is very neat and organized. It takes forever to get an appointment here though. Some things with pricing. Not disclosing that retinal scan is additional money. Insurance also does diddly squat for contacts because you are charged a "fitting exam". It's a little misleading when you check your benefits on both the insurance and optometry side. They are not upfront with prices here. Eyeglass prescriptions only last 1 year here. California allows up to 2 years. They will also try to close a sale and upsell you once your exam is done. Glasses are way overpriced. Almost 3-4x the normal sticker price. Contacts are almost 2-3x more expensive. I get that this comes with the territory especially at optometry practices but this is absurd and blatant. One reason they do this is just to milk your insurance money. Get ready to spend like 300-500 bucks on glasses and this is after insurance. Ridiculous and absurd. So if somebody doesn't have insurance they'll spend 600-1k on glasses? really? It's one thing to milk and overcharge a patient's insurance but it's a whole other thing to do that while in addition passing more costs to the patient's out of pocket expensive. Truly both hands in the cookie jar here for the sales team. You can look up prices for things like contacts (which are direct from source anyways no matter where you order it). Glasses frames can also be looked up. Terrible and like I said, milking your insurance. read more

So I've lived in the Bay Area for 32 years with my wife and really there aren't many good eye doctor places. He's pretty disorganized - forgot to dialate my eyes, said he would print out a list of eye drops for me, said he would add astigmatism to my prescription and forgot, I couldn't even read the board with my glasses and he didn't notice until I was about to walk out and told him I couldn't It was a 15 min wait from my appointment time. I feel like it's not very well organized. They didn't seem to know what I wanted from the visit, and Dr Koo felt really rushed. He's really smart but I just felt like i didn't know what he was doing. The lady who checked me in did some random tests and then he just redid them. That's fine, I get that we need to look at contacts etc. but it would be nice to have that explained to me. Be more organized and have a method to things. I don't even think they did the puff test. He kept laughing at every question I asked. But he did give me some good info. He said he's dialate my eyes next time in two weeks but forgot. He also said he'd print out a list of recommendations but yes he also forgot that! I felt taken advantage of because I told them I couldn't afford a contact lens prescription and wanted to check with my insurance and he smiled and said why don't we just do it anyways and you can call and check - low and behold I get him with a triple digit bill. I pay it and am nice but I leave feeling like they should've given me some options or been upfront. They weren't too transparent. Not a lot of communication about whether to come to the appointment with Another thing ... I asked the lady about getting a copy of the insurance statement that says how much money I can spend and she said Sorry that's for the doctor. It's my insurance why can't I see it??? I mean she could've offered to print it out or even said we aren't allowed to (even tho I am sure she is) Overall I find most optometrist are out to get your money. Based on the reviews I thought Dr Koo would be just amazing but he's just ok, he upselled me on a couple of things and I just said ok. I felt rushed during the appointment like he kept trying to land he laughed at me a couple of times when I asked questions. Is there something funny about my questions? The last thing that bugs me is the eyeglass prescription and contact lens. First of all they wouldn't give me a copy when I left. That is technically illegal but i'm not mad.. They only emailed it after I called 2x Secondly he made my prescription for glasses only one year. Even though the norm is two, even though I've had the same power for 30 years. Reason? He said specifically just cuz insurance will cover it again (even though I will still have a huge copay) the government law says contacts need to be a minimum of 1 year... he wrote mine for 364 days lol small detail but hmmmm I don't think he's accurate when he talks about FDA there are government laws for not screwing patients and some places write them for longer read more

I'm very impressed with the entire experience. Starting with the appetizer: all the interactions with the staffs were professional and friendly. From the very first time I set foot inside, the staff would come and ask if I needed any help. Right away I felt welcomed. For the main course: when Dr. Koo comes in he greets me with "What can I do for you today?" And after that be prepared for lessons in eye health, detail Wikipedia like information on cornea becoming less flexible as you age, UV damages, and how one should adjust the monitor at work (I'm a UX Designer) to help eye strains. Honestly I don't think I have ever experienced anything like Dr. Koo before. He seems to genuinely cares about your eyes well being and recommends steps to take to improve them. Before leaving I showed the staff that one of my nose pieces broke and she immediately helped put in new ones. These were not even glasses that I had purchased here. Again just a surprised little gesture like that that made me feel this place is a bit different. read more

I realized I never wrote a review for this place, and it's been 3 years! Three years ago, I ventured here because of all the high reviews. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about the reviews at first, however, my worries were eased. I never thought I would ever be excited to write about an optometry place before, but Dr. Koo is pretty awesome. He takes the time to listen to your needs, and explain clearly in lay man's terms. The front desk is pretty awesome too. Anyway, that was just a quick blurb, here's what you need to know: 1. Parking - There is plenty of parking, as it's in a plaza. No issue here! 2. By Appointment Only - I believe that they are by appointment only, so, well, make an appointment before coming here. You can come and make an appointment or do it by phone. 3. Ambiance - When you enter, everything is very clean and modern. It's got that rich, almost pretentious feel too it. Walking in, there are displays of glasses against every wall (mostly brand name stuff). I don't remember any music playing, but there could have been. Overall, this place is spotless clean, and it makes me want to take off my shoes. 4. Staff - I mentioned this up top, but there are usually 2 people at the front who help with billing and post test stuff. The guy has been there all 3 years and I'm not familiar with the girl, but I think she's been there for at least 2 years. Both the guy and Dr. Koo remember me, even though I only visit once a year. 5. Pricing - I'm not 100% how much things cost since insurance covers a good amount of my costs. I would imagine this place to be a bit more expensive than somewhere like costco. I firmly believe that the service I receive here justifies the premium. I ended up referring a coworker here while trying to explain why my experience was soooo good here, and he ended up with the same experience. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place. Dr. Koo is an excellent optometrist. As a patient, I expect my optometrist (as well as any medical professional) to be professional, informative, smart, patient, thorough, and caring. Dr. Koo certainly has these qualities. When I had a chemical burn in one of my eyes, Dr. Koo saw me immediately (even on a holiday), treated the burn, gave me medications, and explained to me the likely cause of the burn and the steps to prevent another one. Dr. Koo even made a follow-up call the next day to make sure I was okay. When he noticed that my vision unexpectedly deteriorated from the prior examination, he elicited key information from me to find the likely cause and he worked with me to develop a plan to mitigate the deterioration or stabilize my vision. Also, his facility and equipment are top-notch and modern. His support staff is very friendly. In sum, my long search for an optometrist ended when I found Dr. Koo. I have been a satisfied customer ever since. read more

I haven't been to an optometrist as thorough as my childhood one, but now that I don't have insurance, I have to shop around based on price (I found other similarly priced offices to be dishonest with their prices). Vista Eye gave me a discount for paying out of pocket, but I didn't have to sacrifice quality or service for it. Dr. Koo gave me a thorough eye health exam and brought to my attention UV damage (which may not have existed at my prior eye exam, or no one saw it previously). He also made a minor adjustment to my contact lens prescription which has improved my vision (my prescription had stayed the same for the last 2-3 years) so I appreciate the extra effort he made to make my corrected vision even better. Overall I felt comfortable that my eyes were examined and all efforts were made to give me the best vision possible - what more could you want from an optometrist? When my mom brought me to Vista Eye Center on Stevens Creek Boulevard for the first time, I was a bit skeptical upon entrance. The outside look of the building was simple and collected, if not a bit ordinary. However, as soon as I stepped inside the building and got a good sense of things, my first thought was "hmm... not as bad as expected." Everything is very modern, and gives off a very comfortable feeling. The shiny shelves hold myriad high-quality, brand-name eye glasses (and sunglasses) that I, personally, wouldn't mind wearing if I weren't preparing for an appointment to purchase contact lenses. The two receptionists welcomed my mom and me warmly, and dressed professionally. One of them led us to the back, behind the reception desk. We waited for, at most, a few minutes on the couch and cushioned seats. There was a shelf with many magazines, articles, and books. Since I am currently a nerdy (but not necessarily smart) high school student, I naturally picked up some "How to Pick the Perfect College or whatever" magazine. But that's beside the point. Dr. Derrick T. Koo (interesting name, I know) greeted us in a professional black suit and showed me into one of the check-up rooms. I looked into this machine with a picture of a hot air balloon that, as Dr. Koo described, is supposed to relax my eyes. Makes sense, I suppose. And so Dr. Koo brought me to another room, where I relaxed in a reclined sofa chair. Well... I'm not going to go into the specifics, but the process was comfortable, and all the technology was innovative and modern. I went through several visual check-ups (and that thing where I look at smaller and smaller letters..... all I can say is that my eyes suck:P). I tried on only one pair of contacts that I felt were perfect. Apparently, the "contacts trainer" (?? ikr?) wasn't available that day, so Dr. Koo himself taught me how to wear the contact lenses. It went well, and I don't have to wear glasses anymore [so I can now wear sunglasses while being able to actually SEE (clearly) at the same time]! Afterwards, I (aka my mom) made an appointment to see Dr. Koo again for a follow-up check-up session (to make sure the contacts were okay after a week of wear... and to answer any questions, etc. etc.). I received a contact lenses case and a 2 fl. oz. container of Bio true (Bausch + Lomb) multi-purpose solution. One week later, I made I went back to the building and did my previously mentioned check-up (they even called me the day before to remind me). As expected, everything went well, and so I can proudly say: I am currently wearing my contact lenses while typing this XD To those who wonder what Dr. Koo is like, here's the update: - very young.... I think he probably graduated med school not too long ago (but I'm pretty bad at judging for age). Just fyi - smart, clear, and informative; I asked about a billion questions during the follow-up, and he could answer every one with details and background information. - easy to talk to and not always boring and serious. - Oh, and to those Bay Area ABC's with parents who don't speak English well, he speaks (in my opinion) perfect Chinese (but maybe that's because my Chinese-speaking skills are not exactly what one would call "good"). He talked to me in English and explained/conversed with my mom in Chinese. Since I am only a high school Junior, Dr. Koo was only my second optometrist. And all I can remember about my first one was that: he was old, the receptionists and other patients were old, the building was old-ish, the doc was alright, but not memorable. Not bad, I believe, but I'd recommend Dr. Koo (and his wonderful receptionists/employees) any day. Only suggestion: get Juicy Couture brand glasses and sunglasses! Thank you. PS.
