My family and I went to see Dr. Kosakura for eye exams and new prescriptions for both contacts and glasses. He was extremely friendly and caring with us. He provided a detail examination for with of us and explained each procedure with helpful recommendations on our eye care. For me, he did a diabetic eye exam and dilated my eyes to make sure I didn't have any issues from diabetes. He also photographed my eye vessels to make sure things were in order. Luckily, everything was fine. My family and I walked out of there with new contact lenses, glasses and an optometrist that we can trust and will be back to see on a yearly basis. I would give Dr Kosakura 5 stars. Consistently a great doctor, patient friendly and knowledgeable- with each member of our family. I'm giving the 3 stars for his staff, who somehow try to sell us on an up market pair of glasses every time we want to get new glasses through VSP. I mean we have eye care benefits for a reason and want to use the benefits up to the max but each time we are picking glasses they will tell us something like " oh those are too big for your face" and suggest the more expensive brand. Very frustrating! I know what I like, the size and shape of my face and so let me pick the frame I want please! Same with lenses- if I want the plain old glass or plastic ones... they add on reflective coating and then that's out of pocket...when I already said lenses only no add on's. As much as we love seeing Dr K for 10+ years now, this pushy front desk staff is really pushing us away. read more

I went to this office years ago and had great experience with them. Today when I went back I felt disappointed because their customer service becomes very unfriendly. Some of the ladies there was friendly but they do not have enough knowledge to help locating my insurance. My insurance was easily located in other optometry offices, but I do not have too much complain if this is simply because these ladies are new. The lady who eventually was able to help me was very unfriendly in various ways. I can tell some hate from her eyes. Maybe it is because she hates Asians? I will not come back again. read more

We've been going to Dr. Kosakura for years and each time we have managed to keep our spending under our insurance limit. There is a big push to buy expensive glasses from him, but we normally just opt for the eye exam and then buy our glasses/contacts elsewhere. Two years ago, I noticed that his accounting was getting more "creative" with charges he'd add to my bill without telling me ahead of time. I didn't mind since all was covered under my insurance. This year, however, he was even more greedy. His assistant insisted that contacts must be purchased from his office, or else part of the exam would not be covered by insurance, so we added a set of contacts to our bill. Afterwards when we got home we called the insurance company, and we were told that there was no requirement to buy contacts from the Optometrist. So we were lied to. In addition the insurance company let us know that a claim had already be filed, and was in the process of being paid. So we told insurance to pay for the exam but to hold off on the contacts since we were going to cancel that order. We then called the office and did just that. We thought the issues was resolved, but then to top it all of, Dr. Kosakura himself, called me and started arguing with me about his coercive practices. I was shocked. Tip for you Dr. K, a good business man would never call their patient to berate and argue with them. How about apologizing for your shady practices? You are a disgrace to the profession. read more

My 'prescription lens requirements' are especially difficult to fill, but Dr. Kosakura 'has always done an excellent job to meet my needs'. The best thing to come from a bad relationship was my ex's referral to Dr. Kosakura. Always the right prescription; Dr. Kosakura is the best. His lab has never returned my glasses with scratches, they are always, pristine and ready to wear. He and his assistants have even taken the time to locate a maker of hard contact lenses solution that doesn't test on animals. He also takes his time to answer all my questions thoroughly. Quick, professional, friendly. I would return if I had VSP again. I made an appointment on the phone, and the called with a reminder a few days prior to the appointment. There was no wait when I arrived. I found the optometrist, Dr. Kosakura, to be extremely professional and kind. He answered all of my questions and made some gentle suggestions without being pushy. I also liked the fact that he explained all of what he was doing. I really hate the eye puff test that they do for glaucoma, and he explained that the tool he uses now is much gentler. And it was! I went back for my annual eye exam recently and while I was there I asked to have my glasses adjusted because they started feeling a little loose. There are a few ladies who work in Dr. Kosakura's office and I'm afraid I don't know the name of the one who helped me adjust them. Anyway, when she put my frames in the heating machine (don't really know what it's called), the heat happened to melt off the anti-reflective coating on my right lens, which caused tiny hairline cracks and as a result impaired vision in my right eye. I didn't realize this until I went home because Dr. Kosakura gave me a trial pair of contacts to try on after my appointment and had my eyes closed when I was fitting my glasses after they were adjusted. I called Dr. Kosakura's office the next day. Although there was a slight miscommunication over what happened with my glasses, once they finally realized what the issue was I asked them if I could have the lenses replaced They told me I could bring my frames in to be examined. They confirmed the damage and agreed to replace my lenses free of charge. I got them within a week. Completely hassle free. I especially love Dr. Kosakura's gentle demeanor and friendly attitude towards patients and I am especially impressed with how his office handled the situation with my glasses. I have had a great experience from day one and cannot say enough great things about Dr. Kosakura and his staff. read more

Been coming to Dr. Kosakura since before this place was even on yelp, and I must say that I am always impressed with the compassionate and helpful staff, as well as Dr. Kosakura's professional attitude and people skills. Whenever I go in, I enjoy talking to the staff about life in general, and they are always so friendly. Everything is also very efficient. My brother and I both had appointments back to back, and while he was being examined, I had my eyes tested in the other room. We were out of there in what seemed like half an hour... I highly recommend Dr Keith!!! My entire family recently got eye exams. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Dr Keith uses the latest technology for eye exam and is very attentive and thorough. In fact, we drive all the way from Fremont to see him. I also went there to get some prescriptions sunglasses. Can't believe what I have been missing all these years. The Maui Jim's are literally like an HD TV. Unbelievably clear!!! I can now pick up detail and actually see street signs from a long distance. Dr. Kosakura, by my opinion, nice and knowledgeable person, so his staff. I've came to doctor's office to get contact lenses(exam, contact lens fit and follow up). Day before visit, I've called and asked how much will it cost to me. I've got answer, price range $140 - $200, depends of type contact lens, in my case, simplest daily disposable lenses, it will be $140. Next day at the end of my visit I was told that I should pay $200. When next my visit I've questioned this charge, the front desk person just didn't know what to say to justify it. That's all left quite a bad taste in my mouth. read more

It's good to know that even in a shaky economy we have prosperous businesses in Cupertino who can turn away new paying customers. I never got to meet the Doctor. Due to the poor customer service, I ended up going out of my way to Lenscrafters. More expensive? Maybe. But less time wasted during the transaction, and the Lenscrafters receptionists treated me like a valued customer. Recently, I lost my glasses on a business trip. I live nearby, and hadn't gotten a new prescription in years (I usually order glasses online), so thought I'd give this local business a try. I walked in one morning to a reception area with one person checking in for an appointment, and 3 receptionists at the desk. I waited while the guy checked in, and told them I was a new customer who needed an eye exam and glasses. I was told to wait and someone would get to me. I sat by the reception desk checking email. After a while, I realized the 3 ladies at the desk were not on the phone, just doing paperwork with no particular urgency. I think one other person had come in to pick up glasses during my wait. But not even a peep in my direction to get my information or let me know how much longer I would wait. So, I waited 10 more minutes and walked out the door. Not in a huff; I was more surprised and disappointed than pissed that these ladies chose to ignore me. edit: 3/22/14 - I see another customer (Herzk H.) wants to attack me for posting my honest experience. No, I was not arrogant nor rude. I took a shower and brushed my teeth that morning, so that wasn't it either. I also wore shoes and a shirt, if you'd like to know. I was a very polite and patient guy looking to give a local business a chance. And I don't appreciate my precious time being wasted. If there were 3 people sitting behind a counter, and the lobby is empty, I expect someone to check in on me promptly. I shouldn't have to wait 20-30 minutes without a peep. We have been going there for decades and will continue to do so. My mom went to Dr. Kosakura's dad before he retired. Reason? Dr. Kosakura is honest and his staffs are wonderful. There was some comment about his staffs. I don't think this customer realized that each person has different responsible job. There is one main receptionist and others are accountant and assistant. I don't think it is fair to assume everyone is receptionist just because they are sitting at the counter. WELL. Receptionists are human beings, too. IF the customer is arrogant and has BAD aura, why bother. Lenscrafter is a better option for some people. read more

I had to switch optometrists when my vision insurance changed, and thanks to Yelp I decided to go see Dr. Kosakura--I'm so glad I did! Not only is Dr. Kosakura very nice and very professional, he also figured out that I have astigmatism, something my other optometrist never diagnosed me with. I can now see better thanks to my new contacts. Dr. Kosakura also diagnosed an eye problem that my dad has that had been ignored for many years by our old doctor. Don't be put off by the location of his office (it looks like a store rather than a doctor's office)--Dr. Kosakura knows what he's doing. if you see high reviews for this office, it is only because these are very old. It used to be one of the best eye care centers, and I have been a long time customer. But, alas no more! Check out the dates when they actually got good reviews. Now, Dr Kosakura is rarely present and available for appointments, and staff customer service is extremely poor!! My son had multiple issues with contact lenses, and any concerns I raised got little attention. You are better off going to a different eye care center, if you really care for your eyes. read more

This review is for Dr David Nguyen .....I needed a quick appointment as I was having some issues with my vision. I called the clinic on Friday and there happened to be a cancellation for that day. I was delighted to be seen by Dr Nguyen with a very short notice. I had my annual vision exam done earlier this year in January. And, hence this exam was not covered by my vision plan, what a bummer! I still opted to pay out of pocket. Dr Nguyen came up with some plan to solve my increased prescription with minimum losses and agreed to provide new contact lens for a trial. There is a human side of him which I would like to highlight that's so important for this profession that makes the patient feel important. He and his staff did a great job with my exam, provided explanations and answered all my questions. I returned when my lenses were ready and they had me fitted and out the door in about 20 mins. With a child in glasses, I always pay attention to the optometrist locations wherever I go. Adjustments are usually needed every so often. I've been into this office a handful of times, and each time, the staff was helpful in fixing my daughter's glasses. Usually, it's a minor adjustment of bent frames or a missing nosepiece that just got broken, and she cannot wear her glasses until fixed. (And, so I always seem like I'm in a hurry!) I have offered to pay a fee for the work or service, but there's been no charge. I am very appreciative of that. If our insurance ever goes back to VSP, I may consider switching my eye care to this office since the service is so good. Thanks again to this office! read more

In addition, he helped me switch to a new contact brand which has helped a ton and a new cleaning solution. It's been months and my eyes are problem-free. I went to Dr. Kosakura for my annual eye exam, and was very pleased. I thought he did a very thorough exam, working carefully to figure out my right prescription for reading and distance on my relatively new bifocals. My new prescription was very crisp, and I'm seeing better than I have in the last 2 years. Unfortunately my computer screen is not in focus unless I look thru the little reading window on my bifocals...so work is buying my computer glasses. I went back to Dr. Kosakura's office to pick up a copy of my prescription and was very impressed: Dr. Kosakura heard me explaining to the front desk what I want to do, and he came out and asked me to come back into the examining room. He spent about 10 min with me figuring out the right lense for the distance to my computer, and sent me out with the correct single vision prescription for my new computer glasses. No charge. Just sheer professionalism and customer service. (and, the entire office is just plain NICE) Very impressed; highly recommended. read more

Super professional, friendly and so helpful! This includes Dr. Kosakura and his staff. I was referred here for an exam (I hadn't had an eye exam in 7 yrs or so!) and I'm so glad I went. It's far for me to drive, but absolutely worth it. Their equipment is state of the art (love that they can take a digital picture of your eye and actually check out the blood vessels in your eye ball!)
