Dr. Joo was very professional and knowledgeable. She took extra time to listen attentively to my concerns (floaters, etc.), thoroughly explained the causes for the conditions, and let me know what to do if my situation get worse. Really nice people, operating in a totally friendly and professional manner despite the COViD madness and all the restrictions. I called many optics places in the area, looking for someone to swap out the lenses in my sunglasses. Most didn't answer the phone, told me they can't do it, or just sounded freaked out on the phone. De Anza Visión Center let me drop off my sunglasses with no appointment, Called me later to discuss what needed to happen, finished on time, did a great job. This office takes all the necessary COVID precautions when seeing patients. Before heading in for my appointment, I waited outside. Once brought in, they had me wash my hands. I was one of the few people in the office besides the employees which made me feel like they were taking these measures seriously. They also leave the door open for air flow! When seeing Dr. Joo, who is super knowledgeable and explains things in easily understandable terms, I came out of this appointment having questions answered I didn't know I'd have but would probably have had at a later point. Truly appreciate the thorough explanation of what my prescription means. The optician was also extremely nice, helpful and patient with me. Being the picky person I am, she kindly let me try on 15+ glasses to find the right one--and I still ended up not finding any I liked. But she was so sweet about it! This place is super-dependable. It's a small place, but we've been coming here for years now to both get our eyes checked as well as to get our glasses. Not only do they have a lot of the latest equipment (they had the puff-eye-pressure tester before my original optometrist did), but they have a wide selection of frames. The staff is really friendly and unbelievably helpful. I chatted with them a lot, and they assisted me in finding a glasses that suited my style. If you have issues with insurance or paperwork, they're very good at sorting that out with you. Just, GREAT customer service. They even handled my mom's prescription sunglasses. Additionally, not only were they really quick with getting my glasses, they paid a lot of attention to how it sat on my face for my comfort. When one of the ladies saw that my glasses didn't sit quite right, she immediately took it back to quickly adjust the nose pads in the back. Eye examines and dealing with new glasses isn't a pleasant experience (I've worn glasses since I was little), but they're very prompt and pleasant about the whole affair. This is the best place for your vision care. I've worked with Dr. Choy and his team of healthcare professionals for many years now. All 3 of my children have been under his care and we are all very pleased with his expertise, bedside manner and professionalism. The staff is excellent, and one of the things we appreciate is their ability to pick out the right frames for your face shape. We always get compliments on our eyeglasses. Dr. Choy takes his time explaining your test results and any course of action you might need for your specific examination. We've had various issues including a posterior vitreous (the separation of the posterior hyaloid face from the neurosensory retina), styes, and other issues and he's always able provide the right treatment. First off, I haven't yelped in a year and this experience was so bad that I had to get back on yelp. Talk about an emotionally scarring experience. I'm hypersensitive to people dealing with customers and try to be uber-nice to compensate. For some reason, the secretary, Shileh/Sheila was SO rude. Her attitude was UNNECESSARY AND UNPROFESSIONAL. I'm assuming it stemmed from an episode where I got a prescription from them, I got it filled at Costco.. and then I was practically BLIND. I went through this routine 2X. And I don't blame them for it. It's Costco's fault and my retarded glasses I bought.. But, she was just so rude!!!!!!! The doctor, Stephen Choy is great. Liz is also a very nice secretary but the very COLD reception from Sheila just ruined my day. I'VE NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Choy for the last 15+ years and the service and quality of care have always been excelllent. Dr. Choy is very professional and thorough in his checkups. I've never had any major complications with my eyes. I do know he is very patient and detailed when I see him for my yearly checkups. I remember when I first got my contacts, he was very good about explaining to me how they work, what types are better for me, and his staff was patient working with me to try them on in the office. The office staff is a hit and miss sometimes depending on the receptionist. I've had some who are really friendly and helpful while others are quite cold. But regardless, my appointments are always set up correctly and when I show up, I can see the Dr. usually in less than 10 mins. If there is an opening and I am on the waitlist, for that earlier slot the receptionists are good about calling me to let me know. I have purchased contacts, eyeglasses, sunglasses countless times. They arrive very quicky(usually less than 2 weeks) and they are good about working with me to get the right fit. The selection is pretty good in my opinion and I've always found something I liked and fits me. The price is on the higher end compared to Costco or a Pearl Vision. You have to take into consideration this is primarily for eye care and not a retail store for glasses/frames. I have now moved to the East Bay but I still make the 1.5 drive down south to see Dr. Choy! read more

I have been going to De Anza Vision for about 3 or 4 years now. I have seen both Dr. Lee and Dr. Choy. They are both some of the best optometrists I have seen. I have always had positive experiences there. My 11-year old step-son also goes there and he likes them a lot. I usually have a routine annual visit with no surprises. This year was a bit different. I was having trouble with headaches. My primary care physician wasn't much help. I eventually saw spots in my eyes so went to see Dr. Choy. He fit me in quickly and was very thorough in his examination. It turned out he was the first to help diagnose something that was happening in my brain, but having an impact on my optic nerves which was affecting my vision. If I hadn't gone to see him, I don't know how long it would have taken my PCP to act. I can't recommend Dr. Choy enough. He made me feel well taken care of, that I was not alone, and that I had an advocate for my health. He took time to answer questions, plus he has a great sense of humor. I will continue to see him, even if I move out of the area, as long as I can drive there in a day. In short, Dr. Choy rocks! read more

DON'T COME HERE! I've called several Dr before I made an appointment here because I know that Dr charges differently according to how much they want to charge the insurance and from my own pocket. I need to have an exam for contact lens and want to keep my 2 weeks lens but at the same time wanted to try the daily lens. My previous Dr would do that by giving me two sets of lens and of course make sure they fitted my eyes. BUT this place, they charged me 2 fitting fees ($69 each) because they are giving me 2 kinds of lens!! I wish they have told me before I made the appointment (I did mention this when I called), I would simply go somewhere else. They didn't do any additional exam, just simple gave me two sets of lens! Did I mention my Dr left the clinic because I was late to my appointment? I know I know, I shouldn't be late but I was stuck in traffic abit, plus first time I went there, I waited 20 min (which I think was normal since we always need to wait when seeing Dr), but I wouldn't imagine he would just left without calling me to alert me. I was only 5 minutes late (not kidding, only 5 minutes)! Since I started my insurance with them this year, I will continue to do so until I am eligible for another exam, will definitely go somewhere else. read more

Dr Choy is very thorough in doing my eye exam. He took patience as I sometimes have difficulty deciding which image is clearer in my view and had to go over the few options over again. I am very happy with the result. The Vision Center has a variety of frames to choose from. I have a Big Face and need a extremely WIDE frame. I did not think I can find a frame that suits me, but I found 3 frames that I like in the clinic. I highly recommend Dr Choy for your eye exam. For people that require a wide glass frame, they have your size! read more

Dr. Choi is very professional. My husband and I know it by going there for 6 or 7 years. We start to bring our little girls there too. I think we saw Dr. Lee once. He is fine as well. The receptionists are a hit or miss. Sometimes nice. Sometimes they don't care who you are. The only real complaint (and that's why I can only give 4 stars) is: they have a high turn over on staff. 2 years in a row I like the super thin lenses and ordered them. 2 set of employees would order the wrong one (regular thickness one) and had the gut to deny me ; this is IT ! So unprofessional and inexperienced. I had to use their own sample to prove them otherwise. I could understand may be the first year someone made a mistake. So I specifically remark on the second year. Still disappointed. So I will only go there for Dr. Choi. read more

Having lost my only pair of glasses last year, i was also looking for a new optometrist as I was a tad overdue for an eye exam. It's a good thing a friend of mine referred me to Dr. Macson Lee at this place. He was totally professional, courteous, and amiable, putting me at ease as I was put through the requisite battery of eye tests. It's a testament to his meticulous nature that he took the time to walk me through every procedure and the results, which is always a reassuring thing. The eye-glass technician who also helped me that day--I'm a little sad I can't remember her name at the moment--was also very helpful. All in all, a great experience. Thought I'd update my review to include my experience with their Covid safety procedures and also my contact lens fitting. They have done a really great job ensuring the safety of their patients with screenings at the door, having patients wash their hands right after entering, sanitizing all the glasses that have been touched in the optical area, etc. Staff is amazing as always, and I had Dr. Joo and Judie help me through the whole contact lens fitting and trial period. Now, I've been wanting contacts for a long time but have always been paranoid of scratching my retina or damaging my eyeballs so I've been putting it off for a while. Knowing and being extremely understanding of my worries, they were extremely patient (it took me almost 45 minutes to get the contact lenses in and out during the training since I was a little worried about scratching my eye but Judie was really patient with me and talked me through some different ways I could get the lenses inserted or removed, and watched me repeat this process 3 times) and accommodating of my needs (I ended up having to get fitted for a different type of contact lens after the first trial week and Dr. Joo was great about recommending me some different options to suit my needs). I also had to reschedule my second contact lens follow-up appointment, and they made that process so quick and easy. When my prescription was finalized, Dr. Joo answered all the questions I had about wearing contacts, and the optometric staff were really upfront about what option would be the best to get the most savings with my insurance, which I really appreciated. What keeps me coming back every time is how the staff here truly cares and want the best for their patients, and they're extremely patient and go the extra mile to make sure your questions are answered and you leave feeling confident! read more

I went here a while back, but am never going to go again. I figured i would just find the closest optometrist to my house. I had always considered going to optometrists to be a pleasant experience compared to dentists and doctors, boy was I wrong. I was about 10 minutes late for my appointment, and was told that i had to reschedule and come back (10 freakin minutes!!!). Anyways, after coming back, the doctor did not give me the contacts i wanted after the 48 hour trial. I wanted the acuvue2, not oasis (he gave me oasis trial pair). So after i came back, i wanted to simply buy the acuvue2 (which i had been wearing for years). I was told i had to do ANOTHER trial pair of acuvue2 and come back in 48 hours. So after going there for the 4th time within a week, i expected to be able to buy some contacts...wrong. They didn't have any in stock. What kind of optometrist doesn't stock contacts? I had to wait ANOTHER few days to buy actual boxes of my contact lenses.... So overall within about a week, i had to visit the damn place 5 freaking times to get my contacts. NEVER EVER going to this place again. I suggest you don't either. There are plenty of other optometrists out there. I tried to talk to the receptionists and doctor to let me buy the stuff without all the hassle, but they refused every time saying the same thing "these are our policies". They didn't seem to care i had to waste my time and gas going back over and over. read more

Was told that clip-ons to my silhouette glasses was covered by FSA; I knew I should have checked myself, but I thought they of all places would know best. Anyways, clip-ons are NOT covered. They told the same thing to my wife. Here's the kicker, I can't return them. All I was told was "Sorry". Update: I was surprised to received a phone call from the vision center. They again apologized and sincerely told me that they were not in any way trying to trick me and had many experiences that FSA covered clip-ons. The follow up from the vision center has me update my rating: they care about their long standing customers and try to make them happy. read more

I was overdue for my appointment and needed to find a new dr. that was closer to me. I also happened to loose my glasses on a vacation over the long Labor Day weekend. I called and was able to get in the same morning. The office staff were very helpful and nice. Went over my insurance information with me in full detail and helped me through the process of choosing new frames. The Dr. was very nice and explained everything. I am glad I found this dr. I've been coming here for a few years, and this is my second review. The doctors here are very friendly and nice. They were efficient and informative with addressing my questions/concerns. Also, one of the assistants, Junko, is just awesome! She was incredibly patient and helpful with picking out my glasses. I felt bad because I was so indecisive with frames... I ended up coming back 3 times before I finally decided, but Junko was always taking her time helping me and giving me suggestions, and I finally found a pair that I love. I have been going here for about 2 years now and every time I go in the staff is completely different. Each person does a different task. I sit and wait, then go in to have the eye puff test, then I have to sit and wait and someone else comes in to do another test. Then I am showed to a room where I wait, and wait, and wait. When the exam is done, I am told to go to another room to be fitted for contacts. Now I have been wearing the same kind of brand of contacts for 10 years, nothing has changed and they act as if I've never worn contacts. I've been wearing contacts since I was in 7th grade, and I am now 32 years old. Finally, I am asked to pay. I've never had to pay for any eye exam, it's always covered. With some haggling, I explain my insurance and then they say, "Oh, I get it. OK, yes, then you don't have to pay. But if you want your contacts you have to order them through us". I told her no, I just want my prescription. Then she says that she has to charge me for that. I go back to haggling and explain my insurance and then she finally says, "Yes, that's correct". I went to 1800 contacts to purchase my contacts and they denied my prescription because the doctor failed to write out the exact name of the contacts. He only wrote "Dailies". Now I have to call the eye doctor to contact 1800 contacts so they will send me my contacts. It's such a long tedious process and you can get such better customer service elsewhere. Plus, I find Dr. Choi a little bit cocky. read more

I've been to De Anza Vision Center a few times and every time they're wonderful. Everyone that works there is friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They do run a few minutes late sometimes but, from what I've seen, it's because patients don't arrive on time making the optometrist late. I was even thanked for getting there on time! They also go above and beyond. On my last visit, the woman who was helping me (whose name I forget, unfortunately), spent time choosing glasses for me and sat patiently as I tried them on. My optometrist, upon finding out that I was moving down South, spent extra time finding convenient opthamologists for me without me requesting it. All in all, a wonderful experience. read more

I've been going to De Anza Vision Center for well over 20 years (the whole family, actually). Always great service, professional & friendly. Sure I've had to wait a couple of times, but that's the exception, and can't be helped sometimes. Dr. Choy is excellent. Over the years he has caught a couple of issues with my eyes during routine exams that needed referral to specialists. Saved my vision in one case for sure! Always has taken the time to see me asap for things concerning me. Just had my first appt with Dr Joo - excellent as well: thorough, friendly & professional. The staff is great (& patient!) at helping to pick frames, too. The couple of times I've had issues (broken frame, scratched lenses), they have been very helpful with repair/replacement. read more

Great service! After my cataract surgery, I was able to see distance real well, but my ability to read was diminished. Dr. Choy checked my eyes and changed my prescription to include a slight adjustment to my distance vision and included a change that allowed me to read. The staff discussed various options for my new glasses, I ended up getting the progressive lens that gave me a smooth transition to near, middle, and distance vision. I am really pleased with my glasses and the service I received. De Anza Vision Center is the best! read more
