Dr. Xiao is excellent and I had a great experience with her. I like her vibe as she is sincere, transparent and reassuring. I usually don't like one of the procedures where they test the pressure in your eye but she made me feel comfortable and the procedure was quick and painless. It requires skill to make a patient feel comfortable and safe. She also upgraded my contacts and corrected my prescription from the last office I went to. I highly recommend Dr. XIAO and Uber Eyes. Her staff are friendly and patient as well. They sanitize all the frames that people try on and provide plenty of hand sanitizer. The office is clean, aesthetically pleasing and large enough to allow 6 feet distance. Uber Eyes is now my favored optician. ‍ read more

The optometrist is not friendly. The assistants was nice however the eye doc not so. Today was the one and only time that I will ever visit this place. My other optometrist in SF would take a picture of my retina which is covered by my VSP, however this place wanted me to pay a $35 copay. I was so confused and but embarrassed when I asked her and Xiao Xiao said" we don't take health insurance" and after that conversation the whole visit went downhill. Even my 9yr old said "daddy the way she said bye was rude". Any hoots just thought everyone should know if it helps. But what a waste of a visit. read more

tl;dr - Uber Eyes saved me a LOT of time and headache during this pandemic. I saw Dr. Xiao just over two years ago and got new glasses, which were working just great until I clumsily rolled on top them and snapped the arm off. Whoops! I was worried that having a two year old prescription would be a deal breaker in ordering a replacement, but the woman on the phone assured me that given the COVID-19 pandemic, she wouldn't require me to come in for a new appointment, and she placed the order immediately. She told me they'd take 2-3 weeks to come in. I figured that was fine since I had some backup contacts on me. Except whoops again! I only had 11 days worth of contacts left. I called Uber Eyes two days later to update her on my situation, and she kindly and promptly emailed me my Rx and said that even though it was expired, she would extend the prescription for 3 months once I placed an online order for contacts (I went with 1-800-Contacts since they're cheap, and I had a coupon). Well, I did, and she did, and I got a shipment notification from 1-800-Contacts later that same day. Not being able to see during a pandemic would have been awful. Uber Eyes Optometry gave me the confidence I needed to know that I would be able to continue seeing for weeks to come. I've used Uber to purchase Contact lenses annually in the past couple years. Their store is in network with my vision insurance and I've found that they sell contacts with competitive pricing. I used purchase contacts online through vision direct but purchasing through Uber proved to be cheaper. Both times, the purchases went very very easily. I just called them up and they checked my insurance information and provided me with the out-of-pocket cost that I had to pay. They then billed my insurance themselves and I got the contacts within a few days. I also just needed to email them my prescription, no fuss and everything went very smoothly, efficient and quick. I haven't been there for annual eye exam and contact lense fitting.. something that I will certainly consider doing next year!!!!! read more

First a disclaimer: 1) this review is about a visit in August 2017. 2) I went to Uber Eyes in part because Dr. Xiao is a friend of a friend's. Regardless, since I'm not close to her, I was quite delighted by my scheduling with her staff with a short notice. She was knowledgeable and thorough with my eye exam, and I had good and upgraded prescription after that. The staff was also super friendly, and patient in helping me find frames that I wanted -- I got 2 or 3 pairs if I remember right (at least a second one for reading / computer work). If I must criticize, the only slight drawback was that I found that, even though they had some good brands and fashionable frames in store, it was a little hard for me to pick out the kinds that I wanted -- but I could be stubborn/picky =P read more

In order to apologize for the long delay on my glasses order, the Owner and the lab offered me a pair of lenses for any prescription with any lens feature of my choice. Dr. Xiao Xiao（小蕭） was very easy on the eyes. I started out by asking about dilation, but that wasn't a good opener. I tried to Mac on her, but she didn't like my retinal display, and said I might have "Mac"-ular degeneration. Maybe I should have tried a cornea joke. (What can I say, the optics of the situation were bad).  She started checking out my pupils, and I got a bit defensive. It was difficult to focus as she kept correcting me, but things got better when she realized there was a lack of stigmatism. I also thought glock-coma was the result of a police shooting, but apparently weed helps one deal with the pressure. 小蕭 generally speaks English well, but when she said "Time dilation" I thought she was especially relativistic. I shed a tear when I saw the bill. She asked what was wrong and I said "eye watering some". It was quite a spectacle. I would have loved to have stuck around there, but I'm sure she didn't want to stare at me fovea. read more

This is my 2nd time there; Worst ever, Dr. Xiao doesn't know what she is doing. I got in, trying to get contact lens exam. She gave me something (defined contact lens) which burns my eyes, no idea why; and then clear one works well. I decided not get the lens there, since my eyes feel burning; she became very upset. This shouldn't have happened!! I had to go to Costco times, with 3 different prescriptions. I was mortified the second time, much less the third time. The more I think about it the more it bothers me. The woman that examined my eyes can't be a doctor, she checked my eyes twice and miss diagnosed me. And also checked the prescription on my old glasses. She ended up using my old prescription on record. I don't recommend this place. The worst experience ever! read more

The Doctor on the weekend was wonderful. Knows her stuff, very polite, she is great, The gal who works the computer on the weekend really sucks. She does not help, she says she will mail or email things but she does not, when reminded she still will not, and if that was not enough she is also just plain rude. Their location is great and plenty of parking and like I said the Doctor on the weekend makes it worth it but if you have another option maybe consider the other option. read more

This is optometrist office in the narrowest definition - they only know how to test vision and prescribe glasses and contact lenses, but can't address even a minor problem (e.g. a contact lens piece stuck in your eye). They will tell you to go to a medical ophthalmologist. The office is staffed with technicians (so called opticians) who are not permitted to diagnose or treat eye diseases. Their optometrist works only 2-3 days a week. You wouldn't know that until you have a problem. read more

I've got eye checks every year since I got short sight when I was 10 year old. The check I got from Dr. Hsiao is definitely the most complete one in the 30 years! I have had several years of excellent, professional service from Dr. Xiao and staff at Uber Eyes. I recommend her without reservation.

I have to use a scleral lens for one of my eyes because I have keratoconus. It basically means I use a hard contact lens and not a soft one. Dr. Xiao was great in helping me fit my eye for one, even when I had to update my contact from a different provider. She also walked me through how to fit it, cleaning, and insertion techniques. I totally recommend her especially if you're unsure of what's going on with your eyes! read more

Dr. Xiao is so rude and unprofessional. I was treated very poorly when my eyeglasses did not work out for me. Dr. Xiao was pressuring me to keep eyeglasses that I was not happy with and she was very upset when I told her I was not going to settle with the eyeglasses. Luckily Dr. Lee helped me correct the problem, Dr. Lee was very kind and sweet. It's a shame Dr. Xiao was so rude and angry towards me for no reason, she made me pay extra, out of my own pocket, to correct the problem. I will never return here because of Dr. Xiao and I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Pulling my initial 5 star rating back down to a 2. I had two expensive frames I got from here break after about two years of daily use. The cheap "readers" I bought from Costco (3 for $18) are still going strong 12 years later. "No longer under warranty" just isn't a good enough answer. Never let a customer walk out unhappy. As a midtown resident, I went in on a whim to check out their selection of frames. I asked the lady working at the counter what she would recommend, and she spent maybe a minute analyzing my face (i.e. staring at me), and then went on to find me a pair of glasses that perfectly fit my face both in terms of style and comfort! I browsed the entire store, and ended up buying the ones that she chose. This is a miracle for me, as I've been to a number of different eyeglass stores, and have never found anything that remotely flatters my big round face or sits well on my pancake of a nose. It was a bit expensive (I don't have insurance), but totally worth it. There was no hard sell. They have very stylish frames. read more

Wonderful neighborhood store where all the employees are friendly and helpful, especially when my family and I tried on so many many pairs to see what fit us best. Dr. Hu is thorough, explains everything and is very patient. They have a great selection of frames but (and this is why I took off a star) it seems that for some reason all the cheaper frames in a particular line are always "out of stock." I realize that up-selling is the key to being profitable but, especially for kids' frames, it would be nice to be able to choose. BTW: they work with VSP so that you are billed only for your part. Uber Eyes is an excellent top quality optical shop. I just got new lenses in my glasses and did not have my eye exam there from Dr Xiao. But, Dr Xiao is very thoughtful and fair in her business. I had very expensive designer frames from before and wanted new lenses with my new prescription. Uber Eyes replaced the lenses last year and the service was great. This year, there was a lab problem and an extended delay getting my glasses. Dr. Xiao apologized repeatedly and handled it well. This was greatly appreciated. All my family and friends will use Uber Eyes in the future because of the outstanding service and fairness. read more

I can concur with one of the other reviewer's (Heather) comments. My wife and I walked in today looking to see what frames they had in stock and possibly set up exams for both of us. The problem is neither sales associate so much as acknowledged our presence upon walking in; no acknowledgment ("Hi...hello...what can I help you with?); I don't even believe they picked up their heads from the laptops they were looking at behind the counter top. Keep in mind we were the only customers in the building. Finally, after 5-6 minutes of walking around someone finally came out from behind the desk. Funny enough, we ended our visit looking at some frames near the front desk. I took a glance at what the sales rep was looking at on his laptop. Sure enough, as suspected he was surfing the web. I'm not sure if this is a private practice or a franchise, but it's hard for me believe those with any ownership stake in the business would want this poor level of customer service representing their practice. read more

I made an appointment but actually canceled just a few minuted before my appointment. Before booking an appointment, I asked "Do you carry Ray-Ban?" The receptionist over the phone confirmed yes, and proceeded to pencil me in. I was seeking an optometrist that had Ray-Ban because I use insurance and like to have a one-stop shop. I got there a half hour early and walked around looking at the frames. Within a few seconds, it was clear that this store was not a fit for me. I did not recognize a single brand, and the brands I did recognize have absolutely no reason to be in optics like Adidas. When I asked where the Ray-Ban selection was, I was told "You can bring in frames and we can make lenses for them." Needless to say, I was not happy with this. I'm sure this place is lovely, but I clearly do not fit their clientele. Ended up going to Lux Eyewear which was a way better fit for me. read more

I had been to this optometry twice, and I regret that I gave it a second chance to expand my horizon of bad customer services! Two years ago, The first time I came in, I was given me a few legal lease to sign on. It looks like normal safety notices so I signed quickly without examine the content. After that, I was being surrounded by the doctor and the old counter lady, solicited passionately to "try on" many contact lenses. Finally I was charged $100 for the "trying" service! I argued with them and the $100 was partially transferred into the fund for contact lenses purchase. I totally felt being ripped off not because of the $200 something I paid but the attitude of the people inside the shop. The second time I went in was because other optometry nearby were all booked for the month, but this one is like available anytime. So I went in again. After eye examination, I asked for the frames that VSP covers, and the counter lady showed me some frames. The way she offer me frames was unpleasant as usual, when I was picking up frames by myself, she suddenly hand me another frame firmly, silently, without any explanation, she has merely no smile and seems to be angry and sad for her life. After I picked up a frame, and went through all the suffer she was trying to put me through (all the unpleasant eye contacts and conversation), she very quickly gave me a total of $275. I was hesitated and asked her to explain the details on the bill. She slapped her pen on the table and started to read out the sentences on the bill. "The coating is $75, the strength... lenses is $75. The frame is $80 after $130 coverage, the glassses making fee is $ 25.... ", I said, uhmm, I think I don't necessarily need the coating. Without a word of reply, she quickly took of the coating and say angrily"YOUR TOTAL IS $200 dollars." And hand me the bill as if I owe her another million dollars. I said:"what about the strength...lenses?" And the doctor comes and they both look at me in a blaming fashion, as if I shouldn't step inside the store without paying $300 or more. I explained to the doctor that I thought VSP provide free lenses? The doctor says "There's never free lenses. Only plastic, but your prescription is -4 and it has to be special lenses, that's the law." I said I had glasses with -4 but not using the special lenses, the doctor insists that would be the law. Finally I insisted to get my free plastic lenses and walk out of the store without paying extra fees. I felt so bad because I was treated so rudely from the beginning and no one explain to me why the fee is so high. What happened to those people? Maybe this shop has an underlying profit-making standard which is to make at least $300 from each customer walks in. The worst thing is the counter lady, how can she be so rude? I need to go to a course to learn to be that rude as a human being, seriously. It's hard to be all rude and unpleasant consistently. read more

I'm Los Angeles based and travel frequently between L.A. and the Bay Area. Between the dozens of full-service optometrist practices I could - and have gone to between these two large, affluent metropolitan areas, I feel very comfortable in stating that Uber Eyes is the best bet in California. They're excellent. I came to them after a disastrous experience at another Bay Area optometrist practice (Eye Luv Lucy - stay away from them - they're horrible) and the staff immediately swung into action to get me what I needed. I have since purchased four pairs of eyeglasses from them including one very complex pair of rx sunglasses. I've continue to patronize them for my eye exams and intend on purchasing new frames and lenses from them in the near future. Notes on the staff - Sharon is excellent! She's a sweetheart and she knows her craft inside and out. She's worked at a leading optometrist practice in Los Angeles and brings her great talent and sensitive touch to Mountain View. She knows what's she doing. Dr. Xiao is young - but I find this only a credit to her. She's full of energy and enthusiasm and is exceptionally thorough and disciplined. She's actually caught important observations in my eye exam that physicians twice her age have missed. I trust her and her staff. I highly recommend Uber Eyes. read more

This review is long overdue as I visited this past January 2012. Uber Eyes Optometry should be called Uber experience - I highly recommend them. It's hard to find an optometrist because there are so many out there and you feel like you're taking a big chance with the doctor, service, selection etc. so I'll try to paint a picture why Uber Eyes is the place to go. Location: Uber Eyes is located in downtown Palo Alto; close to the highway, very easy to find and ample parking space. The building use to be a bank so the office is spacious, modern and comfortable. Service: This is extremely important to me. Dr. Hu is incredibly knowledgable but down to earth and easy to talk to. Most of all, I felt I was in good hands from the very start. Up to this point, I felt that my vision on one side was blurry at times and visited two different optometrists who didn't find anything wrong with my glasses not to mention it had been prescribed this way for a few years now. Dr. Hu immediately discovered what was wrong and corrected my prescription. The entire staff is extremely friendly and helpful especially Sharon who I had the pleasure of working with. Not only does she provide incredible service, she is also the "eyeglass whisperer" when it comes to adjustments; she knows just how to tweak them for your face. For my day to day sunglasses, I had a hard time deciding between two very different styles of glasses and helped my come to the right decision. When I came to pick up my prescription sunglasses, the frames/lens no longer looked and felt the way I remembered. They had no problem having me take some other options home to think about. Finally, when I selected right pair of sunglasses, they helped me easily make the switch. They handled the entire process with endless patience. Selection: Uber Eyes offers a fantastic selection of up to date, fashionable glasses. In particular, they offer T.C. Charton frames, that are especially made for Asian faces allowing me to find a style that previously did not sit well on my face. 100% Awesome! Dr. Hu has a wonderful bedside manner and she is very thorough. She explained everything to me and was never condescending as I have had happen in other optometry offices. I wanted something besides the usual same old same frames and was able to find just the right pair to suit my style - a little arty, but still need to fit in to a somewhat corporate environment. The staff was very patient with me and even excited to help me try on just about every pair of frames in the store. If you are looking for run-of-the-mill boring frames, look elsewhere. NOT your typical eyewear store. Very unique frame selections from Europe and Asia that you cannot find elsewhere including TC Charton which are designed for those with Asian facial features. I came here because I needed an update on my eyeglass and contact prescription. I did not feel the doctor had good bedside manners at all. She was impatient and pushy and seemed to be trying to buy the most expensive contact lens she has available. She was also talking about how terrible my frames from Warby Parker were, and suggesting I buy one of the many $300+ frames from their store.
