Need an annual exam for your vision prescription? Say no more! Dr. Owyang-Chapman is one of the most efficient and knowledgeable professionals in the area. My visions exams previously took an hour but her set-up is so efficient that we're done within 30 minutes including testing with my glasses and contact lenses AND all the nerdy questions I ask. I've seeing Dr. O-C for a few years and also noticed that she upgrades her technology, which is a VERY important sign when selecting your health care provider!! If your insurance is accepted or the out-of-pocket price is within your range, I highly recommend EOVO! Dr. O-C came highly recommended from colleagues and I'm passing the note onto others! I have not yet visited the office, but I want to share my experience with the pre-appointment process and my interactions as a new patient. I was searching for a new optometrist in the area and, based on positive reviews, scheduled an appointment with Dr. Owyang. I completed all requested patient and medical history forms in advance. About a week before my appointment, I was asked to call the office to discuss insurance and received multiple reminders to do so. I did not complete this step in time, and the day before my appointment, I received an unexpectedly harsh email from Dr. Owyang herself, in which she emphasized in all caps that my appointment would be CANCELED if I did not confirm. It appears that no time is allocated during appointments to discuss patient history or insurance, which made the process feel rushed. I would also like to note that three steps are required to be seen here: scheduling an appointment, completing the paperwork, and confirming by phone. Based on this experience, I decided to cancel my appointment, as I did not feel comfortable being treated by someone who seemed impatient and exhibited an overly aggressive demeanor. I encourage others to explore the many optometrists available in the area before choosing Dr. Owyang, as I found her approach to patient communication disappointing and potentially stressful for new patients. read more

I have had a good experience on past visits with the exception of my most recent visit. Please be aware of that there may be surprise upcharges for services that are not necessary. In my past visits, I did not have any copay as services were fully covered by my insurance. However, on my most recent visit, I had the unpleasant surprise at checkout of being presented with a bill. No advance notice for the additional out of pocket charge was given at any time. I am fine with paying extra for additional services, however a patient should be informed in advance and given the choice to opt into or out of additional services that are not strictly necessary. I will likely continue to see this establishment, but this last experience left me quite disappointed, and I am writing this review so that a similar situation does not happen to others in the future read more

She was very polite, respectful, and professional. Her and all her staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to eyes, glasses, and the care of both. I've asked them to switch my sunglasses lens to the prescribed sunglasses lens. However, after two weeks of wait, they put in the wrong color; from green to red. The receptionist insisted it was the correct color until I drove all the way back from home after the glasses hurting my eyes. THEY WERE GONNA MAKE ME PAY FOR ADDITIONAL LENS THEY MISORDERED! Both receptionists and optometrist kept saying "sorry for your inconvenience" but every time I pushed her apology towards her negligence, both gave me an anxious silence. I even flat out asked whose fault it was, and again, unprofessional blame-shifting and silence instead of a simple "Sorry, we messed up." After a few minutes of a confusing argument with the receptionist who refused to take the blame for neglecting inspection (she's not colorblind by the way), I had to wait another three weeks! And the updated lens IS NOT EVEN PUT INCORRECTLY TO THE FRAME! I'd go back and argue with them, but I'm done revisiting that place. Friendly reminder to ask for lens price (around additional $150-300, I believe) unwritten anywhere in the establishment! If they ask for their receipt, it won't list anything but the total price so you'd have to do math in your head to review your purchase. Sweet. read more

I had a very smooth experience from start to finish. The office is clean and pleasant. Dr. Keri was very thorough and professional in our exam. (She even showed me the pictures of my retina. I am so happy to have found such nice doctors within my insurance network (VSP) and within walking distance from my neighborhood. Both doctors and their staff were very professional and helpful throughout the exam process and glasses selection. They explain very clearly what your insurance covers and what it does not. They also go over all the additional options very thoroughly and professionally so that it is easy to make an informed decision based on your vision needs. They have a pretty large selection of glasses, more than I anticipated to be honest! I had a hard time making a decision. I liked that they had plenty of affordable options that were within my insurance limits. Also, I was told that they offer 20% off your remaining balance if your frames are not entirely covered by your insurance. Luckily my favorite pair was fully covered, but it's good information to have for future purchases. I look forward to coming back here for all my vision needs in the future! read more

I'm giving 3 stars because I'm feeling nice and this is an old/family establishment. But this is the last time I'm ever checking yelp to go to a doctor's office! Where do I begin. First of all, the receptionist seemed a bit airy. She first walked me to the back of the office to conduct the preliminary eye exam. In the middle of the exam, she walks out and leaves me to complete the exam on my own. I sat there for a good 10 minutes before I realized that she wasn't coming back. I had to call out for someone to come check up on me. Is it normal for a receptionist to conduct an exam? Just seems weird. Now onto Dr. Owyang. He seems like a nice guy, but he was very intense which rubbed me the wrong way. When I mean intense, I mean that he would not stop talking and imposing his opinions on me. I get it, you're not like a regular optometrist, you're a cool optometrist. I also didn't like that he would make assumptions before I even answered his questions. It all just felt too sales-y to me, even though he told me he wasn't trying to sell me. I think this place is fine, but I've definitely been to better ones. Luckily, I only have to get my eyes checked once a year! read more

My family has seen Dr. Kenneth Owyang (father) and Dr. Keri Owyang (daughter) since we moved here in 2009. They're located next to Garden Fresh Restaurant on Ramona Street in downtown Palo Alto. Both doctors and their staff are awesome and friendly. They have convenient hours - open late on Thursdays and open on Saturdays too. Dr. Ken actually corrected a mistake another optometrist made. The other person gave me a glasses prescription that was too strong and gave me headaches. He lowered the strength of the prescription which eliminated the headaches and helped me feel back to normal. He coached me about talking to my VSP insurance about replacing the lenses at a lower cost. He wasn't making money off this purchase, he was just concerned about my eye health. My teenage son is rough on his glasses, and they've readjusted his glasses with no problem, from missing nose pads to bent frames. The only caveat is that since they're so popular on Yelp, you need to make your appointment as soon as you can. read more

My family has been seeing (both) Doctors Owyang for about 15 years now. We love them! I live all the way across the country, but I still go in for an appointment when I'm in town visiting my parents. Both doctors (dad & daughter team) are exceptionally nice, great "bedside" manner and really know their stuff. Great doctors all around. Most recently, my dad came down with an eye infection the Friday before Christmas. It was pretty bad over the weekend, so we went over to see if Dr Owyang could take a quick look between appointments and write a script for anti-biotic eye drops. We dropped in, waited a bit and Dr Ken Owyang quickly check him out, wrote the script and chit-chatted with us for a bit. I also had my glasses frame adjusted because they've gotten loose over the last year. The other cool thing is that Dr. Ken Owyang is a HUGE Giants fan, so it's always fun to talk baseball with him :-) read more

I have an awful experience at another eye doctor who basically lied to me that my insurance would cover nothing and charged me for her exam in Sunnyvale. Luckily I took another chance and made an appointment with Keri Owyang. Don't look anywhere else for your eye needs come here. This is the first eye office where I finally felt that the doctors cared about me and helped me us my VSP insurance the best way. They are HONEST which is a rare thing when it comes to eye doctors. Dr. Keri Owyang did an excellent exam and patiently went through my options and my exam results. She took the time to really talk to me about my eye health and options. I was so impressed by her care & service that I brought my husband here too. He is very hard to please with customer service and even he raved about the professionalism of this place. I won't go anywhere else for my eyeglass/contact needs. Been coming here for more than 10 years, and they know how to take care of their customers! Great service, great advice, with a decent selection of frames. And I like that they're an independent father-daughter business. Dr. Keri works Saturdays, so she has been taking care of my eyesight for over a decade. All the while, she has been great at explaining how my eyesight changes and the options that I have at every step (e.g., the pros and cons of going with bifocals, etc.). I've been a patient of Dr. Ken Owyang since 1993. Optometry is a medical science, but Dr. Owyang adds the art of narrative. First there's all the testing and measuring and my saying which lense, 1 or 2, 2 or 3 etc. gives the most clarity. Then the story is told. Dr. O explains what is happening with my vision in as much detail as I want, and understandably. He lays out the options of what is covered in my particular insurance plan, and his recommendations. I think it says a great deal that his daughter, Keri, has chosen to follow him into this profession. I didn't have to wait for the dr to finish up with another patient; Dr. Owyang even checked me in himself. He was incredible friendly during the eye exam and was also extremely informative, especially considering that I've been visiting the optometrist once a year for the last 17-something years. And his staff? Awesome! My phone was dead so I couldn't text my trusty sister to ask her opinion on what frames I should buy but no worries, Dr. Owyang's staff to the rescue. I chose this place because of all the five star reviews, and based on my experience, I wonder whether I ought to ever trust Yelp again. When I was taking my contacts out for my exam, I noticed that the container holding all the solutions next to the sink was filthy. Worse, the doctor handed me a contact lens case to hold my contacts, and it clearly had been used previously. There were yellow stains on the edge of the case and inside. (I threw those contacts away after the appointment and got out a new pair, since I use daily disposables). I am not an optometrist and have no idea what the notations mean on the prescription, but I asked, just out of curiosity, whether the doctor had indicated that the glasses were to be progressives. Nope! The doctor forgot that detail. Um, that's kind of a huge mistake. I don't have any confidence in this place. read more

Being Asian, I have a flat nose, Dr. Keri Owyang told me I can have plastic frame with nose bridge build in and VSP pays for it too. Now I can have any nice plastic frame. I used to look all over the places for plastic frame but none fit. Now I go around and tell my Asian friend about this shop. Dr. Kenneth Owyang fixed my eye glasses screw, it was broken by a kid at Costco optometry dept. (I didn't get mad at him, he is a kid) I used to get my glasses at Costco, but the bi-focal I got from Dr. Kenneth it is much better(don't feel dizzy using it). For glasses, I will go to Dr. Owyangs. I was afraid at first that because I paid a one-time flat fee at the beginning, they would be tempted to have me come as few times as possible and to push me through as quickly as possible, but this wasn't the case at all. Both Dr. Kenneth and Dr. Keri were amazingly patient and helpful and when I expressed concern about going past the time frame, Dr Kenneth specifically said his goal was to get me the right prescription. How on earth can this place have a decent rating? I have to say that Keri was personable. This is where it ends. It has taken me 6 months to write this review because now I am absolutely livid. I feel cheated, disrespected, and the worse part is that I had to pay for their sheer and utter incompetence. To keep things short, this place made 4 attempts to make a pair of single focus eyeglasses correctly (without defects). 4 attempts!!! This back-and-forth continued over a 3-4 month period. 6 months later, it turns out that they are still defective!! I know this as I decided to get my eyes re-checked as they felt strained all the time. This is why I had my prescription lenses reviewed by another optometrist. Voila, the lenses are different from the prescription that Keri gave me. So, my eyes and my wallet suffered as a result of this incompetence. Lastly, each time I call, there is confusion as who has what, what the next steps need to be...like a circus there at that office! A letter to the BBB from my legal counsel is in order for their ineptitude. read more
