Cambridge Optometry is hands-down my go-to choice for eye care. They have multiple doctors of optometry, and my children and I have had the pleasure of being seen by three of them -- each one has been exceptionally pleasant and professional, and have ensured our visits were comfortable and easy. We've never felt rushed and have always been given plenty of time to ask questions. More than once, they were able to accomodate a last-minute scheduling request (college kid home with a very limited window of time) and Doctor Ben stayed late to see him. How incredibly kind and customer-service oriented! Their office is especially lovely, with a soothing atmosphere, and parking is plentiful. They have a great selection of frames and a knowledgeable staff ready to assist. They are also quite reasonably-priced! I wholeheartedly give them five stars and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new source for eye care and vision needs. read more

I'm not sure why this place has high reviews but I had a ridiculously bad experience with this store. I had them make lenses for a frame I provided. The first time around they got the edge polish wrong (after 2 weeks of processing!). They had promised me matte and it came back glossy. I wore the glasses and was like whoa! Why's there's light shimmering all around my eyes? I gave it back to them, and grumpily the person said "ok we'll send it back". Then she informed me oh they don't even offer the matte finish! Then how come I was offered that in the first place? She had no idea. So she sends it back to change the finish to "satin". Well, a few days later they call me and say hey, we have to change the lens altogether, which will be another 2 weeks. Ok so after more than a month, I get my glasses back. They still feel shiny. But anyway, I get back to my life, but I keep feeling there's still some issue. I keep seeing reflections of stuff. And if someone takes pictures of me they see the flash instead of my eyes. What's going on? I finally figure it out - this lens doesn't have anti-reflective coatings. So I take it back to Cambridge. This time they say oh you declined anti-reflective. But the fact is I had shown them my previous glasses - which *do* have anti-reflective - and told them to make it the same way. They had taken a good look at it, and told me it had anti-reflective. Then why do they say I declined? Well who knows!!! Then they call me back again in 2 days and say hey you are out of our 90 day limit, so they won't do anything. They will neither fix the glasses nor refund the money. Later that afternoon I asked to speak to a doctor because a nearby optical store told me that their doctors will fix this issue for me even if the staff won't. Well, they wouldn't have a doctor speak to me. "They're busy". I have worn glasses for about 35 years of my life'. Gone through many frames and lenses. Not once did I have so much trouble with an optometry store. Not one single time. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Lots of good optometry stores in this area. read more

Decent experience overall. Staff was nice and helped me fill out some forms I messed up. The doctor seemed pretty focused and thorough with the whole visit. They asked the right things and checked multiple areas just to make sure nothing got missed. Explained what could be going on and walked through some next steps I could try. I am thankful for the very thoughtful and careful treatment I received at Cambridge Optometry. I came to Cambridge Optometry because in the year 2024, my employer switched to a different insurance provider and Palo Alto Optometry where I had been seen since 2009 was no longer in network. I reviewed all the providers that were in network at our new insurance plan, read lots of Yelp reviews and ultimately settled on Cambridge Optometry as the best reviewed provider of all. During my initial exam, my new optometrist at Cambridge, Dr. Pareet Raju, OD, suspected glaucoma and recommended a second appointment for a field vision test. She explained that the likelihood was low but she wanted to make sure, coming from the place of being extra cautious. I greatly appreciated her thoughtfulness and, fortunately, passed the field vision test during the second appointment. The doctor explained that this type of test was needed only once, and confirmed that I did not have glaucoma. That was hugely reassuring. Doctor Raju emailed me the results of the field test at my request and I forwarded them to Palo Alto Optometry to be added to my record. Next year my employer is going back to the old insurance provider and I will go back to Palo Alto Optometry with which I have had a long and positive history of patient-provider relationship, but I will remain grateful to Dr Raju and should my insurance situation ever change again, will undoubtedly resume seeing Dr Raju. I also appreciated that when Dr Raju determined my prescription for reading glasses, she checked my records sent from Palo Alto Optometry to compare notes. It turned out that my prescription has not changed from 2023 to 2024 and all the observations at the two clinics were the same. I appreciated how carefully and patiently Dr Raju addressed the intake of a new patient. Dr Raju's personality is consistent with how she approaches caring for patients: she is clearly a very careful and thoughtful person who would always err on the side of worrying too much rather than too little. And this is just perfect in a medical professional we trust with caring for our eyes. After all, they are the window to our soul :). read more

Don't come by too late... Stopped by at 4:40pm on a Wednesday to shop for glasses. Was told they were closing soon (at 5pm). I asked if I could still take a look. Found a pair rather quickly that I was interested in, but was told they could write down the model/info so I could come back another day to order when there was more time. Found another nearby optometry store open until 6pm. Ended up buying two pairs there. Selection was decent, but a pretty frustrating customer experience. read more

There are too many optometrists in the area to want to give your business to Cambridge Optometry. I've been a few times between eye exams and picking up orders and have yet to have a friendly interaction. No greeting, the bare minimum service, and overall unpleasant staff. Cambridge Optometry .. 5/25/2021 Very much impressed with Cambridge Optometry in Palo Alto. Naturally, it is situated on Cambridge Ave, which runs parallel to California Ave - Palo Alto's second downtown. Accompanied elderly for a new pair of prescription glasses. Researched nearby optometries, and this one topped off the list (thank you yelpers!) The plan was to just come by and check it out. Parking was easy, across the street. There's also covered parking structure available if you visit in peak times. We were greeted by Daniella, and right away, things began to look bright. She's such a good listener! Daniella took her time to explain all the technicalities in detail, in a simple way, and we felt pretty comfortable and confident in our choices. Tried on several frames, chatted about the process, weighed out various options. Signed up! Glasses were ready couple weeks later, and they fit perfectly well. I have challenges with adjusting to progressive lenses and they went above and beyond to listen to me and my unique issues. Dr. Ben gave me a master class on the different lense options. Jessica's spent a ton of time going over the various lens options resulting in Bifocals for night driving and Workspace for every day. I have fairly low key vision needs - but had not had a checkup for nearly 2 years because of covid. I wanted a thorough examination - to be sure things were not getting worse and to ask questions about single vision/bi-focal/tri-focal glasses - mostly for working. I had been working in scratched glasses for a couple of months so I had some short term questions/concerns - and Dr. Snider was kind enough to offer me advice over the phone on the spot after asking about my prescription. I ended up taking a fill in/cancellation appointment with Dr. Cindy Threlkeld - who was very patient and explanatory - showing me the images inside my eyes and explaining what we saw. Overall a very caring and thoughtful practice. I am not sure why it says it's expensive - because I paid much less than I had for my previous glasses for nice frames and more premium glass. I would highly recommend Cambridge Optometry as the doctor and other staff members are great. This is my third year going here for my yearly eye appointment and overall is the best optometrist office I have been to. More details as to why are below. I have found the staff in this optometrist office to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. For the past two years Daniela has helped me with choosing my glasses after the appointment. Last year she helped me pick out some Ray-Ban frames and choose the lens options to go with it. My family and friends liked the choice much better than what I would have picked on my own. :-) This year she was very helpful in explaining the options for the glasses and sunglasses as I perused them to decide on what I wanted to purchase. I think that Dr. Snider has been excellent at explaining why he is doing different test methods and answering any questions I have related to my vision. The glass prescriptions I received has fit what I have needed. I also have enjoyed learning more about my vision system and conversations with him during the visit. read more

My entire family have been patients here forever and ever. Dr. Ben Threlkeld is EXCELLENT and I could not recommend him and his practice more. I always look forward to my visits here and catching up with Dr. Threlkeld. Sometimes I have kind of off the wall comments and questions about my eyes or the equipment he uses and Dr. Threlkeld always takes his time to provide me with thorough answers. I never feel rushed during my appointments and feel that I am in great care. Dr. Threlkeld told me I was a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery and I'm so glad I followed through with his advice. Although he did not perform the surgery himself, he made a great referral and I could not be happier with the results. At the end of last year I came in on December 30 to buy a pair of progressives with my remaining FSA funds. I'd left it to the last possible day, and even though they were busy, Daniela took the time to help me select a frame that was a new style for me. I have been using Costco optometry for my eye exams and my new glasses for the past few years and overall I thought it was fine. Two years ago I was told that it's time for me to progressive lenses so I proceeded with it even though they were so hard to adjust to and they were never quite perfect. This year I decided to go to Cambridge Optometry and I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. Dr. Ben spent alot of time getting my prescription right. My first visit we spent 45 minutes doing all the tests and after much analysis he said I needed to come in for more analysis. I figured well since my eyes are complicated no problem. So I came in for another 45 minute visit, did more tests, and Dr. Ben said I don't think you should be using progressives right now. And he was right. I'm on day two of my new glasses and they're great. No problems whatsoever. The staff who took my original appointment were great. They were able to pull up my VSP insurance and give me ballpark figures of what things were going to cost when I came in. Overall, fantastic experience, no surprises, and I will totally be coming back to this place for next year's prescription udpate. read more

He was easy to talk to and we communicated through email what best options were for my contacts/glasses and he gives helpful advice and recommendations! I decided to give this place a try because I moved to the area and didn't want to drive out to the south bay where I had my prior optometrist. Overall, the optometrists here are really detail oriented, friendly and seem to be good at their job--hence the many 5 star reviews. My only issue and the reason why I took off 2 stars is because of the following. 1. I don't love that they don't offer shipping for contact lenses since this was what I was used to at literally all of my prior experiences with other optometrists. 2. One of my contact boxes was on back order but I was not told that this was the case until I called because I hadn't heard back for over 3 weeks (was initially told it would be 7-10 days). I'm not taking off stars because of a supply issue, because that's not in their hands. My issue is with how it was handled. The fact that they did not care to reach out to let me know that it would be such a long delay (took a little over a month for me to finally get my contacts) and the way they handled it was unprofessional in my opinion. I had to speak to Danielle a few times and each time we spoke, she seemed more annoyed than the next (sorry, I was also annoyed having to wear the same contacts for over a month). Usually when this kind of situation occurs, one would normally expect some sort of consolation such as an offer for a spare set of contact lens (I've been offered this many times) or pretending to care but I received neither. I will give credit where credit is due and mention that when I asked if I could have a spare set Danielle did sigh but said she'd try to find me a pair that would fit. So after asking, I was offered a spare pair of contacts, but no I was not offered this even when I explained to her that I had been wearing the same pair of contacts for over a month and it was irritating to my eyes. Overall, would not return due to poor customer service. Kind of a shame given how I really liked the optometrist and especially since they have early morning hours as well. read more

The DOC: 10/10 service! Dr. Threlkeld was the best (I've only seen like four optometrists in my lifetime.. but still!) optometrist I've ever had. He took his time to explain every step of the exam process to me (What the images meant, what the purpose of his tools were, etc.)- something my old optometrists never bothered to do and though it took a little longer to finish the eye exam, I really appreciated the gesture and the feeling that I was never rushed. He also made me feel comfortable with conversation that didn't feel forced or awkward like when new waiters try to make conversation for additional tips. He was just overall a good guy and a good optometrist. INTERIOR: Clean and open, with courteous and informed female administrators that want to help you every step of the way. With their final inputs, I managed to find my perfect pair of glasses. Maybe I should take them jean shopping in the futureLOL EXTERIOR: Pretty and Palo Alto -ey lol. I decided to give these guys a call to schedule an eye exam since I recently switched vision plans. I needed to find a new "home" for my vision needs and so glad I came here. I have been wearing contacts for 10+ years and also suffer from Kerataconus. I decided to get an eye exam and see if there was a way to improve my vision. My left eye with contacts was seeing 20/40. Matt Snider was able to recommend Scaleral contacts. YOU HAVE NO IDEA how life changing these contacts are. They took my vision to 20/20 in both eyes. They're hard contacts and a little more complicated then your soft lenses but WELL WORTH IT!! It was like going from SD to HD, I can see detail in everything & colors are so much more sharpened. Matt snider was beyond helpful & im truly blessed I found these guys! Only wish I had come here 10 years ago and had this vision from the beginning. Thank you Matt! Wow, I have been seen by a few different optometrists in the Bay Area, but this is by far the best one I have ever went to! The whole staff is so sincere and they are all so good at what they do, real team players. Dr. Snider does a great job with his exams, and will walk you through everything so you're on board every step of the way. This place was recommended to me by Tiffany T. - aka my partner in Yelp. We both work at the same place so I asked her for a good place that took our insurance. I'd been wanting to get some contacts for a while. Making an appointment was very easy. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful. They do everything for you - insurance-wise. Even though I was "late" to my appointment - a slight communication error on my part - the Dr. was nice enough to squeeze me in. My eye exam was done in less than 1hr. I like how they combine the glasses and contacts prescription test in one. I even got my contacts right on the spot. I even got an extra pair to try on and wear out. It was great doing everything all in one. No hassle at all! I think I will come back in January to get a new pair of glasses. This place is great if you have insurance with Stanford. read more

I've been going to Ben Threlkeld at Cambridge Optometry for several years. He is an outstanding optometrist. What makes a great optometrist? 1. Exceptional knowledge of the inner workings of the eye. 2. Can identify potential trouble brewing at the earliest point in time. 3. Clear, understandable explanations of what's going on in your eyes. 4. Thorough. So thorough. I went for my annual eye exam and the cornea on my left eye was a tiny bit irregular. This might impact my Rx. Ben made an appointment for me to come back a week later, at no additional charge, to make sure the Rx was not gong to change if the waviness straightened out. When I came back, the Rx was the same as it had been the prior week. Ben took the time - after his standard closing time - to ensure he was providing a thorough second exam. 5. True desire to serve the patient. My Rx had changed~5% in the past year. There was absolutely no pressure to buy new lenses, and in fact, Ben advised me NOT to go to the expense for my "computer glasses", as I wouldn't see much difference, and said it was a toss-up for my distance glasses. Honesty and integrity. 6. Ben has a wide network of excellent specialists he can refer you to, if necessary. 7. Ben is very pleasant to work with. 8. The entire staff is professional, proactive, highly competent, and can pick frames you might not have picked, that are perfect for your face and personality. (Ashley - you're the best!)
