While visiting and looking for a quick lunch in the area, I stumbled upon Counter. i ordered a salad. The vegetables and proteins were so fresh, bountiful and delicious. I was remiss in not getting the young man's name who served me but he was wonderful. I requested walnuts and he went next door to their adjacent parent restaurant and brought me a container of walnuts! Delicious food and great customer service - what more can you ask for? The build-your-own concept that Bellini's offers is intriguing, but on this day I just wanted a nice salad with grilled chicken without much of a wait. The Lean and Green salad listed on the menu fit the bill. There was an impressive amount of vegetable variety and it seemed quite fresh. The chicken wasn't bad though some of it was a bit dry. After all, the lunchtime rush was already over, so it was overcooking a bit. I asked for dressing on the side and I was given some sort of yogurt dressing which I liked. The portions were generous. I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. I also ordered the Beans and Greens. Making it well is a tall order because I've always believed the deliciously garlicky Greens and Beans that my husband makes is the best. I was puzzled by Bellini's version. I think there's an extra ingredient--perhaps it's balsamic vinegar--that makes it an acquired taste. Steak is on the menu, but the staff says it is cooked to order and takes an extra 10 minute wait. Important to know. The staff was young, welcoming and remarkably polite. They "yes, ma' am," a lot. Since the restaurant is so close to SUNY Albany, it would not be surprising if they were students. My wife picked to come here on date night, telling me it was a "choose as you go" pasta or salad bowl place. It sounded intriguing so I agreed. Their in-dining area is pretty small, but I guess if most people do take-out it isn't an issue. Their menu is slightly confusing. You start off by picking a "base" (which can be rice, pasta, or other things... but I don't know what they are as I didn't see them actually listed on the menu). I picked Rigatoni. The size of the bowl (large/small) and number of proteins (meatballs, chicken cutlets, sausage, etc.) influence the price. I picked a "large bowl" which came with a full cutlet and unlimited "toppings". Honestly, I wanted a small bowl but also wanted a full cutlet and the meat upcharge is $3. Pasta sauce options were marinara, vodka, and Alfredo. We were told that Vodka was just a combination of the other two, and when pressed they admitted there was no vodka in it. I would prefer they called it "creamy tomato" than lie to me and claim it was vodka, but I chose it anyway. It was actually pretty good. I tried my wife's marinara sauce and it tasted like canned minestrone soup (full disclosure: I love canned minestrone soup), but as a pasta sauce taste I thought it off putting. For toppings I chose roasted broccoli, red peppers, and parm cheese. Honestly, for a pasta bowl I can't see why you would want a lot of cold toppings on your hot pasta anyway. My chicken cutlet was crispy on the outside and tender on the outside. The meatballs and sausage my wife let me try were also crispy on the outside and flavorful. The pasta wasn't overcooked and with the "vodka" sauce was a nice combination. We had a 1/2 off coupon, so the prices were decent. I could see people ordering the same food at a restaurant and paying more than the prices charged, so I think it is a good deal. But, you have to like their sauce. As an aside, their Alfredo sauce was at a rolling boil on the back stove which would make a traditional cream sauce break. They must know magic. I wouldn't mind coming back, but a small bowl which only comes with three toppings is more than enough food (protein excepted) and the limitation of 3 toppings really isn't a big deal to me. There was enough to bring home or share, so portion size wasn't a problem. In all, a fun date night. read more

I see from the other reviews that the quality at the Stuyvesant Plaza location is inconsistent. We must have been there on a good night. We had a wrap and a bowl. The chicken was grilled just right, the veggies had just a touch of crispness, and our two sauces were tasty. The Alfredo sauce was a bit oily, next time I would order half as much. The only real issue was that the two bottles of water we purchased had twist off caps whose lower halves did *not* split from the upper caps. They were not tamper proof. See photo. Maybe that's the way that Aquafina is sold now, but while I was traveling in India I was cautioned not to drink the water from bottles with one piece caps because they could be re-filled and re-used by unscrupulous vendors. Not sure this is the case with Bellini's Counter. Either way, I poked tiny holes in our bottles. That way, if you're eating at Bellini's Counter and notice water leaking out of your Aquafina bottles, you'll know where they've been. read more

For a $11 wrap, I expected much better. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad wrap, chicken tasted gross and overcooked, not enough lettuce or dressing and not even wrapped well, the wrap fell apart. You could make a much better wrap at home for half the price. Would not recommend. read more

The best. All of their dressings are off the charts. There are few places where you can get a solid quick and filling meal for a good price anymore. I'll be the first to admit that it kind of feels wrong to give a quick service, assembly line, pasta shop a four-star rating in a region full of great old-school red sauce Italian-American joints. But not only does the concept work, but my kids really enjoy it. We should back up a bit so that you have a little bit of context. I love pasta. And I'm fairly good at whipping up a quick marinara or Alfredo sauce. Scratch that. I'm quite good at putting a sauce together, and I can make it quickly too. Ask me for the recipe sometime, and I'll happily share it. Here's the problem though. The kids can never agree. One enjoys tomato sauce. The other doesn't. And it's not as if we have a fight. Maybe there's a little bit of moping. But at dinner time, I like to try and pleas everyone. At Bellini's Counter, the kids can customize their own bowls however they like. There's a value to that. My big concern about seeing the assembly line process was that the pasta wouldn't be hot by the time we got it home. But amazingly, that wasn't the case. I have no idea how hot they hold their sauces, or what kind of magic insulation those bowls contain, but I was stupefied by the heat retention. The only downside at the moment are the portion sizes. They are huge. Shockingly huge. I regret not taking the weight of the two bowls of pasta we ordered. But nobody needs that much white flour in one sitting. Nobody. I'll be back. I'm very curious to try the whole wheat pasta. But I'm going to have to find someone who is willing to share, because there's no way in heck I can take down one of those bowls myself. Maybe if I were a marathon runner. But God didn't make this body to run any further than it must. And that distance is measured in feet, not miles. Oh yeah. And those cannoli chips? Food is usually pretty good, but the staff is absolutely miserable. There was one employee that was pleasant and welcoming - never see him anymore. The rest is annoyed that you're even there in their presence. I normally wouldn't even make a review, but if i were a business owner- I would be pissed that I'm losing business, because the staff is the exact opposite of friendly. They would probably actually get a tip if they were even a little approachable. We all have bad days, but this is every single visit. The workers are friendly in the atmosphere is clean. If you're feeling something quick and don't want fast food this is definitely a good option. The order process is a bit wonky, as the menu board can be overwhelming, and once you place your order it's a bit awkward waiting around in an entrance for your order to come up. So we went here thinking it was a healthy food option place. My husband was looking for a spinach wrap or something that was that wasn't flour. We looked at the menu and honestly was a little disappointed. I ended up getting a pasta bowl which was fine but... so very expensive for something I could have easily done at home. And my husband got a burrito? Wrap? But it was so small compared to chipotle ( which is right in the same plaza) for the same or more amount of money. Decided to try this place out while meeting a friend for lunch during a workday. This place has so many healthy options and different variations to keep the choices interesting. Although it was prime lunch hour, I was able to order and get my food very quickly. Be careful- the spicy garlic sauce has a kick. But the peppercinis are a great addition to these healthy dishes. There is one in Stuyvesant plaza as well as in Latham. I can't wait to try the other menu options! read more

All of the grilled fish and meat is cooked to order and I love their salad ingredients - artichokes, chickpeas, papdews - not your run if the mill stuff. I also love the greens and beans over pasta. This was our first time to bellini's counter the food was fine choices where ok but the dining area was in need of some cleaning. Table tops had left over what ever from previous dinning, floors near soda machine where sticky need to be mopped. If I were to go again it would have to be a To Go meal. read more
