    Cross section of Super Italian.
    Otis M.

On my return visit giant subs have climbed to $9 with regulars (a satisfying meal for most folks) $5, still a bargain. The regular Italian comes with cappy and salami, the hot italian with cappy and pepperoni and the super italian with all three so that's what I got. As on my previous visit, the bread was the best part and the sub itself was under seasoned and needed more vinegar, salt, hot pepper spread (though kudos to Lyles for including their own not-so-hot pepper spread at no extra charge) and oregano which I applied to the second half at home. Three stars for an A-OK sub, plus one more star for value.

It was suggested that if we came to Lyles for subs, we'd leave happy. I can now confirm that statement. We had considered going to DiBella's in Latham since it was along our route home and we've always been pleased with the subs there. But I realized that our route could just as easily pass by Lyles. So why not try something new. The staff inside were really friendly, treating us like regulars on our first visit. They even asked how our day was while they were making our subs. My wife ordered the Super Italian and I got the Mixed Italian ($6.25 large/$3.80 small). The difference is that the Super includes pepperoni and hot pepper relish while both Italians have sweet roasted peppers, cappicolla (sic.), Genoa salami, and provolone cheese. Both subs also included lettuce and tomatoes and I also asked for onions. The rolls, which are baked by Bella Napoli, are actually light, airy and relatively flat so you don't feel like you are filling up on bread or overpowering the amount of filling. The flavors were very nice and though my intention was to eat only half of my large sub, I ended up eating the whole sub because I was enjoying the flavors. As pointed out by others, the oil will likely soak through the waxed paper wrapping if you are taking the sub out to eat. Yes, there are a few tables inside the well lit and clean store should you decide to eat your sub there.

R Gershon's Deli (Facebook) Dear Friends of Gershon's, It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with our loyal customers, friends, staff, and extended family. I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Geshon's Deli & Caterers. Friday, January 30th, 2026, was our final day. This decision was not made lightly as Gershon's has been an integral part of my life since I was a little girl. After my father's untimely passing, I took over with one clear mission, to honor his legacy, keep his dream alive, and continue providing quality service and "good food for good people." For more than 60 years, Gershon's has been shaped by the people who walked through our doors. Every employee, customer, client, and friend has played a role in our story and our success. Unfortunately, rising food costs, ongoing economic challenges, the lasting effects of COVID, and the loss of my final opportunity this week have left me with no other choice. To everyone who has supported me over the past nine years, thank you. Thank you for the memories, for trusting us with your celebrations, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives, in both the joyful times and the hard ones. I will miss seeing you all more than I can put into words. I am deeply grateful for the love and support you've shown me and my family over the years. I wish vou all nothina but the best. Please take care

On good days, they can serve one of the best sandwiches. Otherwise, I've had several occasions where I was left wondering why my pastrami sandwich was literally two pieces of bread with a small bit of pastrami - no dressing or anything else, and no questions asked. I like the attentiveness of the staff whenever we come here in person whether for diner in or takeaway, and their fresh pickles are wonderfully crunchy and worth looking forward to. They have some delicious pies, too, and the chocolate cream pie is our fave. I would go back, but the inconsistency over time certainly has dampened my enthusiasm that I may have once had.

It was good to know the turkey is roasted "in house." I took half home. In my opinion, the prices are not only fair but on the low side for the quality of food served. My sandwich was only $9.99 with chips and a pickle spear. Side salads are inexpensive and delicious I hear. The two sided laminated menu was easy to navigate. Specials of the day are posted at the entrance. Service was prompt and friendly. The charming cafe is located at the end of a strip of businesses off Rt. 7 near the Galleria 7 Food Court. There are many tables and a full bar in a well lit inside seating area. In addition, there is a great patio with nice planters on one side. Lots of parking. Easy access for wheelchairs and walkers. Looking forward to returning for a Panini, or soup, or salad, or breakfast sandwich. I will check out the catering menu to use in future. I'd never heard of it before so I asked. Forgive my memory if I don't have it exact but it is a roast beef sandwich on marble rye, a little coleslaw, Swiss cheese, some horseradish mayo served with either chips or a side salad. It also comes with a spear of those good deli pickles. The sandwich is served hot/warm from the flat top, the temp hot enough to get the cheese melty gooey. I now consider it my go to "meat sammich". You know when you're nearly finished with a meal but are already thinking about when to get it again? Is that just me? Go try it.

In one sentence: The food for my grandson's graduation party prepared by LaGioia Deli was outstanding! All the guests raved by the quality of the food, the preparation, and the quantity! A change in the order was made with no problem. Friendly service throughout the process. The food was packaged very well and stayed warm. Portions were generous and the cost less than other places. The items ordered: Cheese Tortellini with Broccoli and Shrimp (excellent) Chicken Parm (outstanding!) Meatballs (like Grandma makes, so GOOD) Ziti with red sauce (freshly made and seasoned perfectly) Cavatelli with red sauce Eggplant Rollitini (popular and delicious) Chicken tenders Three large loaves of house made bread (outstanding, guests returned for seconds) (The owner gave us rolls also.) A large container of grated cheese and extra sauce was included. Our family from Rhode Island took some bread for the car trip home. Check out my photos to view the food! There were lots of leftovers to enjoy another day or two or three. We highly recommend LaGioia for catering. We usually order from Homestyle, but the food here was better. (Not to mention the better attitude plus getting the order correct and ready when requested. Owner at Homestyle sometimes "forgets" to tell kitchen about phone orders. You arrive for pickup, and there is no record of order!!!) Pizzas from Pizza Works in Burnt Hills rounded out the menu along with a tossed salad and fresh fruit. We went the first time because it was one of those days, and our non-vegetarian kid was desperate to eat and we were in the neighborhood.
