Walking into Lyle's feels like stepping into a time warp -- but in the best way. Old-school charm, classic counter service, and enough hoagie options to trigger a mild identity crisis. Seriously, there are so many choices I almost needed a life coach. Everything is fresh -- you can taste that the lettuce didn't come from a bag. The staff? Friendly, patient, and clearly used to people standing there in awe trying to decide between turkey or Italian for ten minutes straight. And can we talk about how clean this place is? You could eat off the floor -- though please don't, they worked too hard to keep it that spotless. It's trendy in that way that never stops being cool -- kind of like vinyl records, or good manners. Lyle's Hoagies proves that old-school still rules the lunch game. read more

Lyles Hoagies - Salad Near Me - Schenectady, New York

We have been going to Lyles (Mikes) for over 30 years, and I always looked forward to my subs there. They were always the best till yesterday. I'm not sure why but there were new people working the counter making subs. Our 2 subs were terrible. They were lacking the usual amount of meat and vegetables. I had mix sub and it had probably 3 pieces of meat and same for my husband's which was a super Italian and lacked the usual amount of ingredients. There was more roll than anything else. The price wasn't any cheaper just the quality of the subs. We will not be back, you lost 2 loyal customers. I don't know what happened??? . Is it under new management? Was it sold?. It's too bad. You are going to lose loyal customers this way. read more

On my return visit giant subs have climbed to $9 with regulars (a satisfying meal for most folks) $5, still a bargain. The regular Italian comes with cappy and salami, the hot italian with cappy and pepperoni and the super italian with all three so that's what I got. As on my previous visit, the bread was the best part and the sub itself was under seasoned and needed more vinegar, salt, hot pepper spread (though kudos to Lyles for including their own not-so-hot pepper spread at no extra charge) and oregano which I applied to the second half at home. Three stars for an A-OK sub, plus one more star for value. read more

Love lyle's ! There sub rolls and wraps are always fresh and tasty. Thwy never skimp on the meat. i won't go anywhere else. Check them out ! schenectady read more

I'm still disappointed that the Lyle's closer to me had to close, but I'll certainly visit here if I'm in the area. For my first hoagie here, I got a super Italian. The taste was still there, the lettuce not so much, clearly there was less than there used to be. I was also asked if I wanted extra oil on my roll, to which I said sure. But I think I was asked because the roll was extra dry, and I think my preparer knew that. Hopefully this was just a fluke, and I hope they aren't in need of tightening their belts more. There's so many great options here besides hoagies too. I still want Lyle's to be my go-to place for hoagies and subs; I'd hate to see this shop close. read more

I ordered delivery. It came quickly and was fresh and hot, awesome. My kid got an egg sandwich, which he said was really good. I got a turkey sandwich on a hard roll which was good. Not better than what I could have made for myself, but I didn't have to do it, haha. I liked that you could order chips on the side and there was a decent variety. The red pepper gouda soup was awesome and a highlight. I would definitely order again! read more

Finally had a hoagie and it was good. So much better than subway! I had a small Italian and recommend it. A pleasant little old lady was working the counter and was very helpful since it was my first time there. I'll go there whenever I'm in the area. read more

A great sub at a reasonable price!! Always busy which is great for them and they make the sub right in front of you!

It was suggested that if we came to Lyles for subs, we'd leave happy. I can now confirm that statement. We had considered going to DiBella's in Latham since it was along our route home and we've always been pleased with the subs there. But I realized that our route could just as easily pass by Lyles. So why not try something new. The staff inside were really friendly, treating us like regulars on our first visit. They even asked how our day was while they were making our subs. My wife ordered the Super Italian and I got the Mixed Italian ($6.25 large/$3.80 small). The difference is that the Super includes pepperoni and hot pepper relish while both Italians have sweet roasted peppers, cappicolla (sic.), Genoa salami, and provolone cheese. Both subs also included lettuce and tomatoes and I also asked for onions. The rolls, which are baked by Bella Napoli, are actually light, airy and relatively flat so you don't feel like you are filling up on bread or overpowering the amount of filling. The flavors were very nice and though my intention was to eat only half of my large sub, I ended up eating the whole sub because I was enjoying the flavors. As pointed out by others, the oil will likely soak through the waxed paper wrapping if you are taking the sub out to eat. Yes, there are a few tables inside the well lit and clean store should you decide to eat your sub there. read more

I love everything about this place. The Schenectady store is the best no matter what you got it's always right as the closest to Mike's giant submarines from the 70s. read more

Absolutely love their subs. For anyone who remembers, it's like a Mikes sub when we had Mike & Neba's. The prices have gone up a bit, but who's haven't. read more

Pretty basic subs. Ordered the super Italian mix based on pics and other reviews. They had 3 versions so I figured I couldn't go wrong. The roll was soft and nothing special. The meats weren't the quality I was looking for or the triple bologna special as I call it. Better option than subway but that's about it. read more

Food is ALWAYS beyond what is expected the rolls are fresh and the meat never seems as if it was cut and left out waiting to be used. The staff is very nice and helpful they never are pushy or try to make you feel as if you are wasting their time. This is my go to place when I am hungry and the food at work just isnt what I want despite it being free there!!! read more

We were looking for a sandwich spot, found good ratings, and they deliver so it was worth trying. We ordered a hot cheeseburger sub, a mixed Italian sub, cream of broccoli and creamy chicken and wild rice soup and a tossed salad. Both soups were excellent, still hot upon arrival! Both sandwiches were very tasty! Will definitely try others although both were a great success! The salad was disappointing. First, it was shredded lettuce. Iceberg. Yuck. That with delicious additional vegetables and olives and hard boiled egg does nothing but leave the lettuce sitting on the shredded lettuce... the bottom layer was sitting in moisture. Nobody likes soggy salad. Seeing that we ordered soup and sandwich for lunch, the salad was for dinner. Needless to say, we threw it out as it didn't make it to us well through delivery, 4-hours layer wasn't good. read more

One of the best places to get subs. The roll, the roll, the roll ! Light, not too heavy & just right! Three locations in Sch'dy! 7.50 apiece for the large size. Ordered an Italian mixed and it was great! They had two ready in 4 minute! They will ask you what you want in it. Ordered the hot peppers on the side! The best hot pepper type relish I've had since my teenage years. This place doesn't disappoint! First time trying and will def go back for more! One word- Yummmmm! Vast menu to view online! I'm from here but I live in Chicago and have lived in Chicago for ten years and when you live in Chicago for ten years and you come back to Schenectady and you're hungry and looking for good food and good company...let's just say your hometown can disappoint you on multiple levels. But thank goodness for Lyle's. I'm really hoping the owners aren't some fascist, racist, trump-loving assholes, as it turns out a lot of people around here are, but if their food is any indication of the quality of their hearts and minds... Egg salad, tuna salad, subs, sandwiches, Mac and cheese, service, prices, vibe...it's all top notch. So tasty. So fresh. So satisfying. I love this place and always have and I'm happy I have at least ONE place I'm proud to show people when I'm back here. Thank you Lyle's. read more

Went here on a whim. We were hosting a meeting across the street. Very good food and the staff was friendly and kept thanking us for the business. The red pepper relish is as good as Jersey Mike's subs. Prices are very reasonable here too. read more

Lyles is a small local chain, this location is right downtown. In all frankness, for the money, you get more sandwich from Subway (and there's one across the street), and you can get your choice of more than one kind of bread, which you can't at Lyle's. They have hot soups, although they're the usual industrial canned soups. But they get karmic credit for being super-fast and friendly, and you can sit at the tables on the corner of the Jay walk and watch downtown Schenectady at your feet. The one thing I was a little surprised at: with a Philly style "hoagies" name, they don't really do Philly-style hoagies so much as the usual subs. Somebody somewhere around here has to introduce the mini-hoagie to the Capital Region. read more

I ordered a tuna sub and had it delivered. It was excellent. I don't buy my subs anywhere else. Tuna was fresh and so delicious. I also ordered creamy chicken with wild rice soup and it was load with good stuff and so good. Thank you read more

I stopped in there for lunch today as I have a few times for a sub. The shop is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Schenectady on the corner of Jay and State street. The price for the subs are very reasonably priced ($6.25 for a ft long Italian sub) the bread they use is what makes this a excellent sub, it's always soft and fresh. The staff is friendly and makes your sub fast and on point every time. Like an idiot today, I accidentally forgot my debit card at work. Embarrassed, the counter guy said it was on him. Of course I will make it a point to repay him, but it was refreshing to know there are still good people out there! Thanks again Lyles Hoagies! read more

Been a tradition in my family for years. Wednesday Night dad always came through the door with a Mixed Italian Sub .After I grown I relocated to Saratoga Springs. When ever I come down this way it's a mandatory stop in. Now I always enjoyed their soup, cheddar broccoli as wel, l sure it's commerical but taste good to me always served pipping hot ! The staff greets you as you walk through the doir with a cherry Hello Wish he'd open one closer to toga . read more

Lyles Hoagies - Homemade desserts = cupcakes. Eating one was the best decision I made today. - Salad Near Me - Schenectady, New York

Lyle's is simple & tasty submarine sandwiches - consistently good every time. It's a local deli chain and their food matches the overall vibe of Lyle's: casual and quick 'n' easy to consume. Great prices for the amount of hoagie you're getting, and they've nailed the balance between the sandwich meat-to-veggie/etc proportion. Solid as a brisk lunch choice but works if you want an effortless dinner too. I'm a fan. read more

Always loved Lyle's hoagies, but last 2 subs...terrible!!! How about more than than 2 slices of meat, lose the wilted lettuce and STALE BREAD!!! Uggghh .. you lost a long time customer. read more

I think this place is great. It's a tradition in my family to stop in and it reminds me of home. I think the bread to meat ratio is great - Subway has spoiled people by serving them too much low-quality meats. Lyle's has good quality products, great and simple bread, and it's really affordable. I feel good supporting a local business and the guys working here are really nice. read more

So I went into the shop this evening, my husband and I go in at least once a week. Normally our hoagies are great! Tonight I got home and the presentation of the hoagies were horrible. Unfortunately I dont live close enough to the shop or I would have brought them back! A complete waste of money this evening!! read more

Nice people but boy do they put out a meh product. When they say this place is one step above a franchise they are saying a lot. Id give this place a half star above a Subway or Mr Subbs. I hope they begin to figure out how to give there costumers more bag for the buck. A subshop should never serve you a sub that is 3/4 bread and 1/4 everything else. Will only visit if its between them and Subway. read more

Pretty good subs at a good price. Great seafood sub, only thing missing is a steak sub.
