Joe and his team have developed a great concept that allows you to have fresh, delicious Italian ingredients in a casual, take home meal. The same quality and flavor they serve at their sit down venues comes out in their bowl at Bellinis Counter. Having an Italian mother and large family cook, I am fussy about the quality of Italian food. The vodka sauce is amazing however their marinara creme sauce is full of flavor and one of the best sauces i have eaten! Came to leave this negative review for Bellini's in Latham after the awful food we received tonight and saw I had left a similar review 6 years ago. Why do we keep patronizing them despite the many negative reviews? In my case I was ordering with someone that wanted to give them a try. I should have told them how awful Bellini's is but I didn't want to deter them from getting what they wanted. They are now believers after we got our terrible order. I like really good Italian, and even bad Italian. Bellini's has increasingly gone down hill to now being inedible. Their meatballs used to be just ok. Tonight, the meatballs were far from ok. They seemed to be made strictly of bread and the texture was off putting. The weak vodka sauce and chewy pasta didn't help the meatball situation. One bite of a meatball and the pasta was enough to throw the entire large bowl in the trash. My family of 4 came on 4/20 for their "pack a bowl for $5" deal. I was afraid we'd be waiting in a line wrapped around the building but we went right in. We had the whole wheat pasta, rigatoni and orzo with Alfredo, pasta and vodka sauce. We tried lots of the toppings as well. I was VERY impressed with the size of the bowls and amount of protein for the $5 deal. (I anticipated a small portion.) it was clean and plenty of space to sit and eat. I had almost forgotten about this place. A friend told me they were having a Valentine's Day special and in we went. We hit it just before the after work rush so we didn't feel rushed at all. The special was for large bowls so we ordered them. I got greens and beans as my base, 1/2 meatballs and 1/2 chicken as my protein and finished it off with vodka sauce and some roasted vegetables. Oh yeah and some mozzarella on top too. Mine was delicious. With the greens and beans as a base it was somewhat soupy but that was ok with me. The flavors melded wonderfully. The vodka sauce adding a creamy garlicky tang to the chicken flavored greens and beans. I had some left for lunch the next day too. My son ordered an Italian rice base with meatballs, cheese and vodka sauce. The little bit of rice that I tried was salty but tasty and he finished the entire bowl. My husband chose one of the preset menu items , the 1/2 and 1/2. A pasta base with 1/2 meatballs and 1/2 sausage, Romano cheese and again vodka sauce. He thoroughly enjoyed and also had some for lunch. Part of the special was a drink included so we got 2 fountain drinks to go. Overall I found the food to be well flavored, satisfying and a good value especially when compared to some of the bowl chains that have popped up in the area lately. I will head back the next time we are too busy to cook. In addition to bowls they have wraps. They also have a lot of healthy bases like quinoa and salad and lots of sauces too. This place was absolutely disgusting, the counters were a mess, there was cross contamination everywhere and a pile of cooked pasta on the ground in front of boiling water (definitely a working hazard). Did not see a single employee over the age of 16, which wouldn't be an issue if this "restaurant" was kept to standards. On top of all that gave me about a square inch worth of chicken cutlet and refused to add more unless I paid double. Would not come back to this place again or recommend it. read more

Let me just say I was a huge fan of Bellini's and have been there often but have to update my review based on our most recent experience. My husband went to pick up a salad and pasta bowl. He chose the ingredients for our pasta bowl, which included meatballs. While he was in line choosing the ingredients for the salad he saw one of the employees near the cash register reach in the bowl, remove a meatball, and then proceed to eat it around the corner. When he confronted another cashier about what had happened, she tried to explain the incident by saying that the bowl had too many meatballs, and denied the fact that he had eaten it - saying that my husband must have been mistaken. She didn't charge my husband for the pasta bowl, trying to smooth the situation over. The fact that they refused to acknowledge what happened was strike #1. The next day my husband called and spoke with the store manager. She stated that she was present when the incident occurred, was aware of the situation, and didn't want to chastise the employee in public. She said this was the employee's second time getting in trouble. While I can understand not wanting to cause a scene, the manager was ok with lying to my husband at the time and refusing to acknowledge what had happened. This was strike #2. My husband patiently explained that he didn't want them to fire the employee or take any extreme measures, but that he was disappointed by how they handled the situation. Rather than apologize about how they had handled the situation, she said, "Well, we didn't charge you for the pasta bowl." The manager then took his contact info and said she would speak with the other store manager and get back to my husband with an update of how they had resolved the situation. Two weeks came and went...no phone call. Strike #3. Unfortunately we have removed Bellini's from our circuit of regular take-out spots based on this experience. I just can't support an establishment with such poor customer service. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! They serve quality food! I am super picky about my Italian food and they do not disappoint. The alfredo sauce is some of the best I ever had. You get to build your own meal be it pasta or salad bowl, amongst other things. You then pick your pasta, sauce, protein and toppings. My go to is the rigatoni alfredo with chicken cutlet. This comes in a huge bowl and it is super filling. This is all at a very affordable price for the college budget. It's across the street from UAlbany making this a staple in my diet. read more

Overall, I was unimpressed with Bellini's Counter. We came here one night looking for a dinner that would suit all of us and found it to be a bit lackluster. I love the concept, the execution was just a bit lacking. I got Fredo bowl. The chicken seemed to be frozen and just heated up, like the stuff you can buy in the refrigerated section at the grocery store. The Alfredo sauce was extremely watery and "tomatoes" equaled about 3-4 cherry tomatoes plopped in the bowl. The dichotomy of the warm pasta and sauce with tepid chicken and ice cold tomatoes just really didn't go. My husband got a vegetarian salad and it was what I'd call just okay. Nothing remarkable and nothing terribly wrong. The portion size was pretty disappointing though. My kiddo opted for a kids caesar salad. It had the same disappointing chicken slapped on it. The dressing was overly fishy tasting and extremely thick. Some parts of the salad, even after lots of mixing, were covered and others were barely covered at all. She ended up eating some of my meal and I didn't even like her salad. I was disappointed to see how much of this was pre-cooked and just sitting out (including the pasta) which I think contributed to some of the disappointment. I tried Bellini's counter months ago and felt I overpaid for what I got, but today they were offering $5 bowls so I figured I'd give it another shot. The bowl comes with a choice of linguine, rigatoni, or whole wheat pasta, followed by your choice of sauce, protein, and a variety of extras consisting mostly of veggies and cheese. I went with linguine, vodka sauce, sweet sausage, artichokes, olives, peppadew peppers, and shaved parmesan. You get what you'd expect from a place offering Italian food in a chipotle "build your own" style. The pasta was fine, the sauce and sausage provided most of the flavor, and the veggies added a little bit of bite and acidity. Chances are you won't regret coming here (maybe if you pay full price), but you won't be blown away either. I'd come back the next time they offer $5 bowls, but Bellini's Counter won't be working itself into my rotation of regular lunch spots. read more

Let's put it this way, I would find it very hard to leave here hungry. A very good option for lunch. If you have never been there, picture an Italian version of Chipotle or Subway. On February 16, 2023, a friend and I ordered Bellini's Old School Joe and the Throwback. At the time that we put our order in we were warned that the Throwback would take a little longer to cook because they had to cook the salmon. As we watched the staff prepare the Old School Joe we notice that several of the sauces on the serving table were still frozen and slowly unthawing. The staff finished making my friend's Old School Joe, and I paid $39.24 for the two dishes. My dish was not cooked at the time, and the staff said they would bring it to me when it is done. As my friend began consuming his Old School Joe, he indicated that his meatballs were cold inside. When he informed the staff that his meatballs were not heated throughout and requested that they reheated it, the staff person walked away from him and did nothing to address the issue. I still had not received my meal after about 40 minutes waiting. Given this terrible service, I asked for a refund. The staff said that she could not give me a refund, even though I had not received my order. I asked to speak to the manager and she left the business as though she was going to get him next door, and then she returned to tell me that he did not answer his phone. I went next door to the Bellini's Restaurant and informed the maitre'd of the situation at Bellini's Counter. After a few minutes, the manager came out and offered to resolved the situation. He agreed that they service was bad and unreasonable, and proceeded pretend to reimburse me for the cost for my meal. He gave me a so-called credit receipt. I questioned whether the receipt was really a credit receipt, and he promised that is was legitimate. It was not. The amount on the credit receipt was different from the amount that I paid, and when I checked my credit card statement 5 days later, the credit was never added back to my account. As a retired state public health employee who has taught food safety and sanitation, and public and private managed food service facilities, I would never go to this establishment to eat again or encourage anyone else to do so. I can't imagine how they pass their Health Department inspections. read more

My family and I frequently order from Bellini's Counter in Latham. Tonight I ordered an Omega bowl which usually has at least a 4 ounce piece of salmon with rice and cucumbers. However, I noticed tonight's piece looked a bit skimpy. I have to weigh my food for dinner as I am supposed to have 8 ounces of protein. After setting it on the scale, it weighed in at 2.75 ounces!! This meal is not cheap, it costs $12.95 so I expect to have more than 2.75 ounces of salmon as the rest is just rice. I called and asked to speak to a manager. The assistant manager was the only one available to speak with. All she could do is say sorry. She said that they don't weigh the salmon that the restaurant does. Really?? That's all you can do for a frequent customer of your establishment is say sorry?? Not enthused for the money that I spend at your establishment regularly. So done with this place. read more

I enjoy Bellini's Counter based on what they're trying to do. It's basically an Italian food version of Chipotle, which it does a good job at achieving. I found portioning to be a little inconsistent - if you get a pasta bowl you get a lot of food but if you get a burrito then you could be a little hungry after depending on your appetite. Since I married an amazing Italian cook, who came from a line of great Italian cooks, I have long avoided eating Italian out. It was actually one of my pet peeves to pay for Italian out (with the exception of pizza - the best food ever). Given that pasta is such an affordable and easy meal to make at home, I hate spending money on Italian food out. I joined a friend for lunch at this place, at their suggestion. I was pleasantly surprised. It's better than I anticipated. The staff is quick and friendly (and there's plenty of them). The ability to personalize your salad, wrap or pasta is great. They offer great toppings and the quality is quite good. Some may say the prices are high. I think for the serving size of the meal it's a fair price. I would compare the pricing to that of Panera or Boston Market. The only real con is the parking lot. The spaces seem very tight and usually full. Additionally turning left onto Route 9 is such a challenge. Hopefully the town will put in a traffic light at some point. All of that is not Bellini's issue however. I would recommend this place for a quick meal or for take out. It's a place I have since taken my teenagers, who can be quite picky about their choices. There was something for everyone. I would absolutely go back. I had the vodka sauce twice - it was so yummy! Update: important thing I left out - they serve Pepsi products, that's a huge plus for me. I've been here a number of times now and I cannot rave enough about this place. 5 stars all day long. Originally I was told this place was a kind of "take-out" version of the main Bellinis restaurant. But oh no... This is it's own food destination totally worth visiting. This reminds me of the same feel as a chipotle or moes experience where the food is right out in front of you, and they prepare it while you queue down the line. It's very quick and super easy to get in and out if you want. They also have plenty of seating if you want to hang out inside too. Now for the food. Excellent. They all fresh ingredients from the same foods served at their Bellinis restaurant but what I love most were their portions for the price. They make these "bowls" which you can make up on your own or choose from some great prenamed combos. they are massive. I typically eat half a bowl for lunch then the rest before I leave work. It is seriously a lot of food. This coming from a guy who regularly eats a five guys double bacon cheeseburger with fries for lunch... And half a bowl fills me right up! The bowls are like $8-11 but man are they every bit worth it. The food itself is very tasty and well prepared. I like this place, but I am concerned. I have been here often enough to know that Bellini's Counter is not pulling in the number of customers it needs to succeed. Why? At least twice I have seen someone come in, stare at the menu, then walk out. The food is good. It always seems fresh and you get your meal quickly. I feel that the prices are slightly high, but I feel that way about everything these days. Whenever I eat here I leave feeling full and happy that I ate something delicious and (reasonably) healthy. All as quickly as if I ate in a greasy fast food joint. I think the problem may be their "pick-your-own combo" approach. With the sauces, flatbreads, rice, pasta, meats, all the extras - both hot and cold - my sense is that people don't quite know what to pick. Some of the combos can seem unusual. My advice to Bellini's is to retain the pick-your-own approach, but offer a few "signature" combos that would work as suggestions. Then give the sandwich, or pasta bowl, or salad, a mildly cute name. The previous negative review seems crazy now that I have been here and gotten a wrap as big as my head - I'm talking Chipotle burrito sized big. The concept is actually a lot like Chipotle, just with Italian flavors. You can get any meat, sauce, base, and toppings you want in a wrap, a bowl, or on a salad. I used to go to a place in GA that had 8-10 options for pasta and 6-7 options for sauces, in addition to the specialty dishes. I *really* wanted something like that after moving to the area. After hearing the descriptions before opening, I hoped Bellini's Counter would be the same type of place. Sadly, I was disappointed. Do you really like filled pastas? Or maybe rotini or the more obscure fancy pastas - like strozzapretti - are your thing? Too bad. At Bellini's Counter, you get rigatoni or linguine. That's OK, I guess, but the pasta is all pre-made and - if I'm being really honest - overcooked. Do you really like oil-based or lemon sauces? How about a meaty bolognese? Too bad. At Bellini's Counter, you get marinara, vodka sauce, or alfredo. At least the vodka sauce tastes pretty good, because I can't stand alfredo sauce and get bored with marinara. I've had the pasta tossed with their pesto and that was pretty solid, but the chicken was fairly dry. The meatballs aren't bad and the breaded chicken cutlets were decent, though. Feeling disappointed with pastas, I turned to the salad. I got a solid salad with the spinach base, some artichoke hearts, olives (only green??? no kalamata or even black olives???), tomato, shaved parm, and a citrus vinaigrette. I topped it with some grilled-to-order salmon. The salad was solid, but the options are limited. I got sick not long after eating the salad, but I can't point to the salad as the culprit. Regardless, it was the last thing I ate before feeling sick - anyone who's been through a similar experience realizes that I probably don't want to order a salmon salad again. I then tried the wraps. The 1959 is essentially a chicken parmesan wrap, with something called Italian rice added in. It's like Mexican rice, but with a marinara base. The wrap itself was an odd bread that was slightly brittle. The marinara is just OK, the cutlet was solid, and the rice was completely unnecessary. If I got it again, I'd avoid the rice. I also tried the "Wise Guy," which is like a Philly cheesesteak with alfredo sauce. I don't really like alfredo sauce in pasta, but figured it'd be OK in this context. I was wrong, but I can see others liking it. Either way, the peppers and onions were undercooked. Raw peppers and onions overpowered everything else. Oh, and the bread was still brittle. On our first trip, we also ordered bread. They stuck it in the oven and said they'd bring it out when it was ready. Ten minutes later, no bread. Turns out they forgot. We had gone not long after opening, so I just figured it was growing pains. They fired up another batch and brought it out to us. It was dense and not particularly good. The folks working the counter have always been incredibly nice and efficient. I can't blame any of my experiences (except for the delayed bread) on the servers. The lack of options and subpar execution of the limited options they have earn Bellini's Counter two stars in my book. There's still time for them to improve - I'm hoping they'll start by focusing on improving the options they have, then expanding and offering new sauces and pastas. I think there's potential, but none of my experiences thus far have really impressed me. read more

This is so cool. It's like your favorite burrito bowl counter, only Italian! You make your dinner, the way you like it, and it's ready by the time you pay. They can accommodate gluten and dairy avoiding people easily. I had Italian rice with marinara, grilled chicken, grilled vegetables and fresh sliced Parmesan cheese. It was so good, and I have lots of left overs! Not to mention, it's likely the same ingredients as their fine dining restaurant next door, for a fraction of the price. My husband loved his, too. As others have noted, BC uses the same formula as Chipotle, Moe's, etc. where you participate in an assembly line process to custom define your food. The same set of base ingredients are used to form wraps and bowls as the form factor, but BC is based on Italian-style items rather than Mex-Amer. We both tried the wraps - one custom with salmon and the other(mine) was the "Wise Guy" which is an Italian version of a beef fajita wrap. Both required the meat/fish to be grilled so the final item is delivered to your table. This is certainly a step up in freshness from what you would get at Chipotle which is all pre-cooked. Overall the food was very fresh and pretty tasty. We were there with a large group on a Friday night and the service was very good. Very friendly. Pricing is on the high side for a 'quick bite' kind of place. The location is a bit difficult to navigate depending on the time of day, and parking appears limited. read more

The line service was a little complicated by multiple people talking to us at one time, kinda got themselves confused. Other than that, pleasant service and relatively quick.
