The ingredients are fresh AF, like they picked the basil and grated the mozz five seconds before my slice hit the tray. We're talkin' the good stuff--no sad sauce or floppy crust here. And the variety? Insane. They've got a lineup of specialty pies by the slice that reads like a greatest hits album. Buffalo chicken? Yup. Vodka sauce with fresh mozz? You bet. Here's to everyday heroes. Prima Pizzeria is on my route to and from work. The convenience of the situation speaks volumes. I'm not going to say Prima offers the best pizza, sandwiches, or dinners. They don't, but they do serve good food; everyday food, inexpensive, nourishing, and reliable. In my experience, the service has always been pretty efficient and cordial. No complaints. The wait time for a call-in dinner (pick up) runs around 30 minutes which seems par for the course. They do bake house-made bread for their sandwiches, which, in my opinion, adds a lot to the experience. The same house-made bread (sliced portions) is included with their dinners. The dinners I've ordered have been served piping hot, which is another plus, especially during the winter months. They always ask if customers want their slices of pizza reheated. Nice touch. Prima seems to be busy during lunch. Why wouldn't it be? Prima serves generous portions of good food at fair prices. It's convenient. A whole lot of working people, myself included, appreciate that. read more

After hearing much talk about Prima Pizzeria including the famous Dave Portnoy's review we finally made it here for lunch. We wanted to keep it simple and only stick to pizza during our first visit. Cheese for me and pepperoni for hubby. The restaurant is busy so no pie seems to be sitting for and extended periods. We ordered the last two cheese and a pepperoni and took a seat. There is plenty of space to accommodate a couple of large groups and counter seating for eat and run patrons. The counter service is welcoming and friendly. Now the main event, our slices were served nice and hot and we got right to it. The crust was a little too soft for me but the sauce and cheese were perfect. We both really enjoyed the pizza and agree that it's definitely one of the better options up here. As we were finishing up they brought out a pie right out of the oven and I had to get another slice. This won me over 100%. Super hot and cheesy with the right amount of sauce with just the right amount of tanginess. Highly recommend Prima Pizzeria. Will be returning to try a hero served on the in house made bread. read more

For as much of an attitude as the person at the counter has when I go there, you'd think they were the best pizza place in town.... and they pretty much seem to be but their pizza seems to point out what I dislike about Upstate NY pizza.... no one in this area seems to get that pizza sauce should be different than spaghetti sauce. And once you eat their pizza, you'll get this. I bet this sauce is used on their spaghetti... now this isn't a horrible thing... but it does align with how people here like their pizza. The bread on the pizza is very good... definite plus there. Had the 6-slice and the 12-slice Sicilian. Both are very good.... the sauce basically tastes like spaghetti sauce... and it's really good spaghetti sauce... but go into the city, Philly, NJ, etc and you'll see that it's different... and maybe if more places did that, I'd order out in more pizza places up here. You get used to it but when you go back to the city, no one has pizza sauce that tastes watery like spaghetti sauce... it's usually thicker sauce, darker too.... I guess if you compare, get a Dominos pan pizza... and it's kind of like that thickness that is what really hits the spot. This one is good for pizza that's not just out of the oven but has been out for about 10 min. I just had my first taste of prima pizza today for lunch! I had the pleasure of eating a few slices of their pepperoni pizza and some kind of ham, and white cheese pizza. The ham & white cheese was a garlic lover's delight with just a hint of garlic in their white sauce; not too over powering like I've had in other pizzerias near Schenectady (as I shamefully chew 5 sticks of Trident spearmint gum). The Pepperoni pizza was on point with crispy pepperoni slices instead of a typical greasy and soggy mix at some of the other places. The red sauce however tasted like a bland tomato sauce from the supermarket, what a shame. Better luck next time Prima Pizzeria! I must say though, my standard of perfection for pepperoni pizza is my favorite Pizza Hut original pan pizza! Long live Pizza Hut! read more

I have mixed reviews about this business because their pizza is amazing. It's really good and for the price it's actually quite nice but then you go to their calzones which we got the other day and we spent a pretty significant amount of money on the calzones and the pictures are posted below, but they are tiny compared to other pizza restaurants that we go to and then they give you a little sauce and a tiny cup, and then they didn't even give us the sauce for My Wife had it then go back to the restaurant and ask for the sauce and they gave her a hard time about it like they had already given it to her like she was lying and wanting extra sauce I don't get that you put so little sauce in there to begin with. It's absolutely amazing that you would even doubt Customer that little bit of sauce is not going to change the outcome of your business. It made it so that we are debating whether we will return to that restaurant again. The ambience it's quaint. It's a little pizza joint it's not anything great and wondrous. It's got a few seating soda, fountain or bottled sodas. The people are nice. I can say that we had a nice conversation with the girls behind the counter they were very nice they were very sociable. They were great, but the food was what was questionable when we ordered those calzones again the pizza was delicious but the calzones I would never buy them again. We order from them usually once very week. We usually get the party size pizza. Every time lately if it's close to 5pm they lie and say they don't have the dough for it but can make multiple pizzas. As someone that has worked in a pizza place for many years that is a bull faced lie. Workers being lazy just lost my business for good. I've been remiss about writing reviews since Covid Pandemic began. DH and I have been stuck in the house since last March only going to restaurants that have outside seating or purchasing take-out! This place offers mostly take-out but does have a few small tables and chairs for the lunch crowd and during covid restrictions they were located out on the sidewalk during warmer weather. This is our go to place for pizza close to where we live. We order and in approximately 30 minutes we pick-up and its still tasty warm and delicious! Plenty of cheese, sauce and lightly browned on the bottom. We order 8 cut round and the lady on the phone is getting to know us! When the weather was warmer we ordered and sat outside at our make shift fire pit in the back yard. A couple of pieces of slate old tire ring and we're ready to go... Saturday Night Pizza Night! Friday night, I found myself craving one thing and one thing only, PIZZA! I checked basically every pizzeria in Schenectady and most were closed by 10pm. On a Friday night? Seriously? Anyway, I came upon Prima and saw there weren't many reviews, but took a chance anyway. I'm glad I did! Their personal pizzas are GREAT for one. Good flavor and frankly I was surprised that it tasted so fresh even though they were getting ready to close. Surprisingly, the boneless wings actually LOOKED and tasted like .... chicken! I should have known when I walked in this wasn't going to end well. I had called in for 2 subs and told 30 minutes that was fine. I got there 30 minutes later and they were starting to make the subs. Another customer had waited so long he was demanding a refund. The girl working on my subs got on the phone for 10 minutes while no one stepped in. Then finally someone comes from the kitchen to help out but he doesn't know the proper ingredients. 50 minutes after ordering my subs I get them. I knew I should've opened them up but I just went home and sure enough they were missing ingredients. They really need a new staff and a good manager for oversight. I don't eat pizza often. I remember not caring for Prima's when I tried it a few years ago. Recently on a late Friday night, I gave them another chance. This time it was very good. Not the best I've had but pretty close. I ordered a 6 cut with 2 toppings, a soda and desert. Including the delivery charge it was over 20 bucks which I thought was a little steep. Hit the spot though. They always tell me 45 minutes to an hour for the delivery, but usually food is at my door in 15 or twenty minutes. I live nearby, but that's as good as one can expect. I like their dinners, ordering about every 4-6 weeks or so. The lazagna is excellent, reasonable and a large portion. Same with the spagetti. Get the meatballs, they're delicious and large. That's a 100 year old recipe. There's a lot of background noise when I call in. It's a little hard to communicate but we manage. I've had no problems ever with customer service as others have noted. Folks answering the phones are quick and pleasant, and the delivery drivers are terrific. Support a local small business and give them a shot. My landlord orders from Prima on a regular basis as well. I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

Wow. we had been going here for years and not sure what happened. Advised them that the eggplant parm was not eggplant parm. It was quasi cooked eggplant with a drop of sauce throw on a roll. Eggplant was not breaded, no cheese, no flavor. They asked for me to bring it in (doubting your customers over $8??), then changed when they determined that it would not be good since it was purchased last night. First time I went out was one of the best pizza's around. Very very delicious. Within the past month or so I ordered twice and each time I was left with the though or Domino's or frozen is better than this. I don't know what happened but the quality left the pizza. The toppings I understand are not fresh and are out of the can which a lot of places do. The cheese doesn't really melt but just sits there and the sauce is more of a paste not even sauce. Their Pizza used to pretty good. But lately the quality of their Pizza has gone down hill dramatically. Their wings were never really good either (too fat and never cooked thoroughly). Plus I think their prices are way too high. I think the phone girls are padding their prices or can't add. I ordered delivery of: 2 orders of chicken strips, fries, a lasagna dinner and a chicken parm dinner at they charged me $45 before tipping. I added this up at home and it should have been only $38. So let me start by stating that we have used this pizza place for the last few years. The pizza is always excellent and the wings are second to none. So why the poor review you ask? Well Prima Pizza has just ruined themselves with us. Tonight I called like I do every week for pizza and wings to be delivered. It was someone new on the phone and she was very abrupt with me, but I didn't pay much attention as we all have bad days right? An hour later we had not received our order. I called and she told me that they did not have a delivery slip for us. I replied with "you took our credit card"...she answered with "yes, but you didn't say delivery". I told her "of course I did"...I do this order every Monday. She got snippy and said it was there for us. So my husband went in and got it. When he asked her if it was still hot she practically threw the pizza at him and told him to touch it. He brought everything home and although it wasn't hot, we were hungry. He honestly thinks that this woman could be an owner, because she was sooooo nasty. No employee would do that right? But I can't be sure. We are done. Worst customer service anywhere. There pizza is good. But don't get delivery unless your prepared to pay a extra $2 and if you pay with a credit card they slap another fee of $1. Like I said they have a good pizza and good menu but they over charge for items. Not to mention a extra $2 for onions on my pizza. Their pizza is a traditional NY style pie, and the wood firing makes the crust perfect. Based on the slices I ate tonight, I'll definitely be ordering a whole pie soon. This place is so hidden from view it can easily be missed. This would be a shame, since it's a terrific business. I work across the street and stopped in for lunch. In my neverending quest for the perfect chicken parm sub, Prima is as close as it gets. I like it a certain way and don't always get my instructions followed at other pizza places around the area. Not so here. Perfect, as ordered, and a good price. Now, when I go in there they know what I want before I ask, and do it right every time. Plus they have the Sanpellegrino sodas in the cooler FTW.
