Roast Beef Sandwich on French Roll Macaroni Salad lemonade
    Emily S.

Arrived at 12:15pm, and there were only 2 people seated, but quickly filled up for the lunch rush. The server was friendly and the food prepared in a timely manner. The food was good, and the sandwiches were large. I was thrilled to discover they had cheesecake from the Carnegie Deli! That alone is reason to go back ;)

    Pastrami on rye

Stopped into Gershon's for a quick pastrami on rye to go recently. You will not be disappointed by their huge selection of sandwiches such as corned beef, pastrami and the list goes on. And did I mention their freshly made soups and salads? Of course not to be outdone by their delicious looking desserts such as cheesecake and rugelach just to name a few. A deli lover's paradise indeed! They are in fact well known for their catering and have been serving the local area for more than 60 years. My pastrami on rye with half sour pickle tasted good and was fresh. My only wish was that it could have been a bit more substantial. The sandwich shown on their website was definitely more stacked, and it was what drew me over there. Still, it was a tasty lunch and I definitely could've eaten more!

A plate of pastrami sandwich with a pickle.

On Saturday afternoon, I was hungry for a sandwich and I stopped by Gershon's Deli. I went inside, and the place has a small store, a restaurant, and a kitchen behind the counter. The menu has a list of variety of deli meat, fresh made soup, and dishes. The people working there were friendly and ready to take your order. I ordered a large pastrami sandwich. There are two sizes: regular and large. The sizes were based on the amount of meat in a sandwich. There were choices of bread and cheese. I ordered rye bread and Swiss cheese with it. I asked about mustard and they make their own mustard. I accepted it and in less than 10 minutes the sandwich was ready. It comes with a pickle. The pastrami was tender and the mustard was perfect. The size of the sandwich was big and worth the price. I'm going back again and will bring my family and friends.

Beef brisket platter with choice of bread. I picked pumpernickel.
    Franklin H.

I ordered the beef brisket platter. The platter contains beef brisket, sliced, and it was braised. Not sure why I expected something a bit different. The pumpernickel bread tasted store bought. Gave the pickle to my significant other and she said it was fine. The potato pancake/hash thing was still cold on the inside, and a bit too burnt on the outside by taste. Meal was ok. Nothing special. Perhaps I ordered wrong. Should have gone for one of the sandwiches. Seating was prompt. Server was polite and efficient. Crowded during lunchtime. Parking a bit tough as it is street parking only as far as I can tell. When I am in the area again I might give them another try.

I'd never heard of it before so I asked. Forgive my memory if I don't have it exact but it is a roast beef sandwich on marble rye, a little coleslaw, Swiss cheese, some horseradish mayo served with either chips or a side salad. It also comes with a spear of those good deli pickles. The sandwich is served hot/warm from the flat top, the temp hot enough to get the cheese melty gooey. I now consider it my go to "meat sammich". You know when you're nearly finished with a meal but are already thinking about when to get it again? Is that just me? Go try it.

But also... facts are facts and the facts are DELICIOUS. It was a full-on snowstorm, the weird dead zone after Christmas where everyone else is like "nah, we're closing early," and Perrecca's was like: "We ride." Just me and the wife, snow coming down sideways, and this place is warm, welcoming, and absolutely cranking out hot food. And I mean HOT hot -- not "restaurant hot," but "careful-that-plate-is-trying-to-burn-your fingerprints-off" hot. Love to see it. Food? Super tasty. No notes. Service? Solid across the board. Bathrooms? Clean enough to eat off of (I didn't, but I could've). Parking? Plenty of off-street, no parallel parking Olympics required. Now let's talk about the hostess -- because WOW. She works the room like she personally built the place brick by brick. Touches every table, warm, friendly, checking in -- you'd swear her name was on the sign out front. Absolute pro. Hospitality Hall of Fame behavior. Between the legendary bakery, the attached restaurant, and the fact that they stayed open when the weather said "stay home," this place is a must-see Schenectady institution. Come hungry. In one sentence: The food for my grandson's graduation party prepared by LaGioia Deli was outstanding! All the guests raved by the quality of the food, the preparation, and the quantity! A change in the order was made with no problem. Friendly service throughout the process. The food was packaged very well and stayed warm. Portions were generous and the cost less than other places. The items ordered: Cheese Tortellini with Broccoli and Shrimp (excellent) Chicken Parm (outstanding!) Meatballs (like Grandma makes, so GOOD) Ziti with red sauce (freshly made and seasoned perfectly) Cavatelli with red sauce Eggplant Rollitini (popular and delicious) Chicken tenders Three large loaves of house made bread (outstanding, guests returned for seconds) (The owner gave us rolls also.) A large container of grated cheese and extra sauce was included. Our family from Rhode Island took some bread for the car trip home. Check out my photos to view the food! There were lots of leftovers to enjoy another day or two or three. We highly recommend LaGioia for catering. We usually order from Homestyle, but the food here was better. (Not to mention the better attitude plus getting the order correct and ready when requested. Owner at Homestyle sometimes "forgets" to tell kitchen about phone orders. First off I'm not sure what food people in these reviews are eating, because in my experience the Italian mix sub was very bland, the bread was dry, and the meat looked pale and weird. The woman helping me was friendly enough but made it a point to tell me how gas prices were fine at $4.10 per gallon as long as Trump was the president, which annoyed me because it gives an indication that details don't matter here. Given the taste of the $15 small sub I paid for it definitely tracks. Be your own critic, but for me it's the history of this place and not the food has people coming back. I won't be one of them.

Either way, they are the real deal! I love that you can order deli meats and have them delivered too! I love that you can custom order your sub with extras and in the notes remove or alter the standard ingredients. The bread (roll) they use is AMAZING! And consistent every time! I'd like to know if they bake their own bread and if not would love to know the bakery who does. The only things I can offer for recommendations are add bologna to your deli meat offerings and increase the thickness of cheese. Although I loved the paper thin (actually transparent) provolone, my husband ordered extra cheese (paid addition) and he could barely detect (notice, see, taste) the extra Swiss cheese. We are looking forward to trying the Jamaican patties (not sure of the actual name but the item on their menu look like the authentic rendition once tried before elsewhere and were a fan). Knowing their consistency and use of top quality ingredients, we're anticipating another success story. I wish I had a photo but when I get their food I don't even stop to think about taking a picture because I just want to enjoy! But I'll try to restrain myself the next time to pause and snap a photo or two because they deserve the recognition! We also really appreciated the delivery service.
