We ventured to Crescent Pizza late one night to pick up and order via a new app I'm trying. The deal I believe was for 3 slices of pizza but the super sweet owner/manager allowed us to select 5 slices and we were on our merry way. So we picked 5 different slices and each one was delicious and fulfilling. The restaurant itself is open late so a great option for late night pizza cravings or just a yummy snack. There are about 3-4 tables available for seating in a comfy space but generally a takeout vibe. Very sweet stuff and good pizza, a great combination.

Went and got all of the single slices they had left

We also are fans of the Detroit style pizza we were first introduced to at Whitman Brewing in Saratoga. Korner Bar & Grill is closer to our home, and it would be more convenient if their pizza was equally as good. Arriving on a Saturday around 6 PM it was apparent that they are already popular after being open for only about one week. None of the tables were available and only 4 seats at the very long bar were vacant. We chose two bar seats that were the furthest from the dining room where a fellow was entertaining with his guitar and singing. These seats were close to the entrance with an occasional cold draft as people arrived and left. We chose these seats because the noise level was unbearable everywhere else. I actually turned my hearing aids off to tolerate the noise level. Our server at the bar was friendly and welcoming. She quickly served us water and provided us with a "cheat sheet" of the available beverages. There is no written food menu. Numerous QR code cards are posted asking you to use your phone to read the food menu. A soda ($3.50) for my wife and a 20 oz. draft Modelo ($7.50) for me were quickly served. Most impressive was how quickly the kitchen served our apps. 5 minutes! Yes, FIVE MINUTES! Crinkle Cut Fries ($6) and Uber Cheese Stixs ($13). I've never had fries from Nathans so I can't attest whether these compare fairly as implied by the menu. But I grew up on crinkle cut fries that my Mom made, and hers were better. My wife thought that many of these fries seemed like they were dehydrated. The menu says that the Uber Cheese Stixs are house made with 5 types of cheeses and a corn flake breading. The breading was nice and crispy and the cheese inside was soft to almost runny. The best part IMO was the melba sauce. Our two 8-inch square (6 pieces each) pizzas were delivered in a very reasonable 15 minutes. My wife went with the weekly special Shrimp Scampi ($17). I choose the basic cheese pizza with San Marzano tomatoes ($12) and added three toppings (sausage, mushrooms, & peppers) for $7 more. Both of our pizzas were flavorful and were actually more flavorful the second day - although less crispy, of course. Just like I've never been to Nathans for fries, I've never had pizza in Detroit. If I'm comparing Detroit Style pizza in Colonie with Detroit Style pizza in Saratoga Springs, I would prefer Saratoga. While KB&G has an airy dough, I think Whitman's is slightly lighter and airier. Both have nice crispy cheese edges, but KB&G edge is oilier. Somebody let me know what days/times are the slowest. I'd like to return.

It is certainly still an upstate thing and I promise you won't find anything remotely like it deep down in the southern states! The same ordering counter and staff remains, and so has the flavor! I am glad that I can still find my absolute favorite fried mozzarella with melba sauce in Colonie. The cheese log is fried to perfection and it will give you the perfect cheese pull every time. EVERY TIME. There's something about its slightly crispy exterior and savory and melty texture inside that goes so well with the sweet raspberry sauce. I never order marinara with it because to me, their melba is also one of the best in taste and consistency. Besides the fried cheese, their pizza is also pretty good with a very cheesy top and flavorful sauce to coat. The pizza crust is also made not too thin or thick, no doughy toughness but just a slight chew that makes it totally worth it. Their prices are very reasonable still after all these years and I hope that this no frills spot continues to thrive. I will be back every single time I am in the area. However, their lot is shared with another quick serve establishment next door and there are limited parking spots. There are only a few small tables inside if you plan to dine in, and while taking it to go is an option... I wouldn't recommend it because the food would be best served fresh and piping hot.

But because they also serve burgers, I think a comparison to Roy Rogers is more appropriate (minus the fixin's bar I really liked). (Side note: There are no more Roy Rogers in New York State, they're only in Mid-Atlantic states at this point). The restaurant is tiny, with about 5 booths and a few small tables, but when I came in for lunch, it was immaculate. My first meal here was a chicken combo, spicy, with cole slaw. I really like their chicken; their spicy chicken has exactly the right amount of heat and flavor that I want. It's also extra, extra, crispy. I feel sorry for those who have to clean up after anyone who eats in, because there will be lots of batter flakes all over the place. And there's no sporks, it's all plastic forks, knives, and spoons. And now, for the picky stuff: You get a slightly larger amount of cole slaw than at similar restaurants. But the chop is finer, and there's more mayonnaise, so for me, it was too mushy. I probably won't order it again, instead I'll check out other sides. The biscuit was fluffy and less salty than at other places, but it was slightly dry, probably having been under a heat lamp for a while. The combo includes a fountain drink, from a smaller, older-style Coke dispenser for which there are only 6 options, one of them being sweetened iced tea. Unsweetened ice tea was not available as far as I could tell, so if that's true, your only unsweetened option is water, out of the dispenser or bottled. I found it amusing to see, in big letters under the counter, "We cook fresh all day," with about 3 dozen pieces of chicken under heat lamps in the back. Just how often during the day do you cook fresh? The bathroom was clean, but the dispensers were out of soap and paper towels. This is not a good thing for a place serving fried chicken. And it was only about 75 minutes into the day when I was there, I would find it hard to believe it was all used up in 75 minutes. More likely, it was never restocked at the start of the business day. C'mon, you can do better. This is easy to fix. I'll definitely be back if only for the chicken, but I do intend to try the burgers and also the other sides. If those are as good as the chicken, and the beverage and bathroom stuff gets better, I'll add more stars to a revised review for sure.
