One knows an expert when they encounter one, and Ali struck me as exactly that before I even knew he has been doing this for 20 years! My hair is dark brown, thick, and long, so we knew the process would be long and laborious. I asked him for blonde highlights and ombre look, so we did a strand test before to make sure my hair would lift well, which it did. He proceeded to spend more than two hours patiently applying foils on very fine strands of hair, which was to ensure the result would be well blended and natural-looking. I greatly appreciated the fact that he not once rushed through it. You could tell he's a perfectionist, which is exactly what one wants from a colorist. Between bleaching, washes, toner, cut and styling he spent a total of 6 hours on my hair, and the result was perfection. In addition to his sensational work, his personality and temperament were things that stood out to me. He was very patient, attentive, and fun to talk to. Severe chemical damage to my daughter's hair--zero accountability…read more My daughter went to Mavida Salon 93 South Main St. Lodi New Jersey July 6,2026 at 11am for hair color and FULL head of highlights. She booked the appointment with THE OWNER of the salon Cheryl whom i personally spoke with on the phone the night before. She assured me that she would be the one taking my daughter as a client and she did! She also said it's CASH ONLY. My daughter has shoulder length hair, the COLOR price was $50.00, FULL HIGHLIGHTS $150.00 the total was $200.00 with a 20% tip of $40.00. Making the Total of this appointment $240.00 that my daughter paid cash to Cheryl at the end of this incomplete service. Cheryl did not blow dry her hair, she was to busy (obviously overbooked) so my daughter left the salon with wet hair. Cheryl obviously knowing the damage that was done when she had her at the sink as she was shampooing the chemicals and taking the foils out of her hair. Unfortunately, the service resulted in severe chemical breakage, uneven color tone, and very sloppy and unprofessional partial highlights (we booked FULL highlights) and severe irritation on her scalp. Her hair is now extremely brittle and breaking due to the over, processing time by being left UNDER THE DRYER with the bleach and color chemicals on her scalp and hair as she worked on other clients. My daughter continuously asking Cheryl to check her color and highlights and Cheryl kept telling her she's not done yet without even checking a foil. The other workers and clients were observing what was going on, they witnessed the intentional act but said nothing. However, they did make eye gestures to my daughter as if they couldn't understand why Cheryl was not checking her hair. My daughter had chemicals on her head from 11:45 AM until 2 PM. When I called the owner Cheryl to discuss what happened that evening she was dismissive and refused to acknowledge HER error. We trusted this business with my daughter's hair, and instead, it was completely destroyed. A professional salon should know how to safely manage HAIR health. The lack of skill and care shown by the owner herself is completely unacceptable. This was supposed to be a pleasant day for my daughter as a gift from me to her, and it turned out to be a disaster and a very bad experience.

She recommended a color the first time that dyed my roots ORANGE. should've never come back after that. My mistake. Anyway, I was coming here weekly for three and a half months for blowouts, due to a shoulder injury and difficult to straighten hair on my own. Wanted to save money and this place is cheaper than my previous salon. I also had my hair colored three times. I saw Jenn H mostly, but also CeCi Jones a few times when Jenn was out. Well, one day, CeCi was blow-drying my hair, and suddenly I smelled hair burning. So did the manager Lysa, the other stylist Katherine, and the blonde receptionist. They all mentioned it and started walking around looking to find the source of the smell. I was literally the ONLY client in that room. I told them several times that it was coming from me, but CeCi kept denying it. So instead of coming to check my hair, they let it go. Very nice. I couldn't deal with the confrontation, and went home. It seemed fine. I came back the following Saturday for a blowout with Jenn. She didn't mention anything was wrong with my hair, yet when I went home, the hair at my temple was completely burned off. So CeCi started the job, weakend my hair, and Jenn finished it off, as Michelle the manager explained and as did a stylist I spoke to from another salon. I came back another time and spoke with Michelle. She was super nice and apologetic, and went to speak to both stylists, who of course lied to her face and denied everything. Absolutely shocking. Well Michelle offered to do a free color and blowout with a bonding treatment, as well as another free blowout. I agreed. It was with Jenn. Jenn continued to burn more of my hair off at my temples and all around my face on both occasions. I am so upset, I cannot believe I gave her two chances and each time, she completely ruined all my hair. Also, I had someone inspect my hair and found greys already grown out. I had my hair dyed three times at this salon, first time with Jenn, second time with one of the other girls, and last time with Jenn. So either the first or second time, someone didn't cover all the roots. The girl that colored my hair the second time, someone didn't cover all the roots. The girl that colored my hair the second time also somehow got the dye all over my face and didn't even say or do anything. I had to use my own tissues to scrub it off and luckily it came off as I was wearing makeup. And, none of these people ever washed my hair well. I would come home and find thick amounts of hair dye inside and behind my ears. Seriously? And not only that, but the products used at this salon are no name cheap garbage. My hair used to be so healthy and shiny before I came to this salon. Now my hair is dull and looks and feels terrible. As soon as I went to another salon and had treatment done, my hair is already looking healthier. Same with my mom who I mistakenly sent there. She complained about the cheap products ruining her hair as well and switched salons. These are horrible people and liars. You messed up someone's hair, be an adult, take responsibility, and apologize. Instead, they attack and spread lies. Absolutely disgusting. Stay away. Just four days after my appointment, my gray roots were already showing, and I had to return to the salon to have the color addressed. The keratin treatment was equally disappointing. My hair was frizzy from the very first time I washed it, and now, two weeks later, it is still just as frizzy as it was before the treatment. I specifically paid for the keratin treatment to help control the frizz, so seeing essentially no improvement was incredibly frustrating. I believe customers deserve to receive results that justify this level of expense. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend this salon.

They also have a lot of BOGO deals, sales, freebies, and events to give you chances to multiply your points. At Sephora, you can only use your points towards whatever samples they are offering at that time. They don't have as many incentives. *They offer brow services *They have a fully operating hair salon *Stores are generally much more spacious and bigger I would say two of the biggest cons are that Ulta does not carry many "hot" or "unique brands"... Sephora definitely does. I've also had better customer service at Sephora. This Ulta location can be a hit or miss with the employees. Some are very knowledgeable about products and some are not.
