Severe chemical damage to my daughter's hair--zero accountability. My daughter went to Mavida Salon 93 South Main St. Lodi New Jersey July 6,2026 at 11am for hair color and FULL head of highlights. She booked the appointment with THE OWNER of the salon Cheryl whom i personally spoke with on the phone the night before. She assured me that she would be the one taking my daughter as a client and she did! She also said it's CASH ONLY. My daughter has shoulder length hair, the COLOR price was $50.00, FULL HIGHLIGHTS $150.00 the total was $200.00 with a 20% tip of $40.00. Making the Total of this appointment $240.00 that my daughter paid cash to Cheryl at the end of this incomplete service. Cheryl did not blow dry her hair, she was to busy (obviously overbooked) so my daughter left the salon with wet hair. Cheryl obviously knowing the damage that was done when she had her at the sink as she was shampooing the chemicals and taking the foils out of her hair. Unfortunately, the service resulted in severe chemical breakage, uneven color tone, and very sloppy and unprofessional partial highlights (we booked FULL highlights) and severe irritation on her scalp. Her hair is now extremely brittle and breaking due to the over, processing time by being left UNDER THE DRYER with the bleach and color chemicals on her scalp and hair as she worked on other clients. My daughter continuously asking Cheryl to check her color and highlights and Cheryl kept telling her she's not done yet without even checking a foil. The other workers and clients were observing what was going on, they witnessed the intentional act but said nothing. However, they did make eye gestures to my daughter as if they couldn't understand why Cheryl was not checking her hair. My daughter had chemicals on her head from 11:45 AM until 2 PM. When I called the owner Cheryl to discuss what happened that evening she was dismissive and refused to acknowledge HER error. We trusted this business with my daughter's hair, and instead, it was completely destroyed. A professional salon should know how to safely manage HAIR health. The lack of skill and care shown by the owner herself is completely unacceptable. This was supposed to be a pleasant day for my daughter as a gift from me to her, and it turned out to be a disaster and a very bad experience. read more

Found this place via Groupon but from the first conversation, I was treated with the same welcome and priority as a full price paying customer. I spoke to and booked my appointment with Cheryl, the salon owner, who's been doing hair for... I forget how long exactly, but a couple decades though. I got a color touch up (single process), conditioning treatment and cut. I was not gypped of any product nor was my time with any service cut short-- I got the full treatment, and some fun conversations with other patrons and staff members while there. The salon is spacious, well-lit, and smells nice! I actually asked one of the workers if they use room scents and she said no. So that pleasant, clean, fresh scent was coming from the products! I thought that was a great sign / indicator of quality products. Oh, also? I have sensitive scalp and somehow always forget to tell my stylist. The color they use did NOT irritate my scalp! I had one of the worst salon experiences of my life here. I'm a Black and hispanic girl with curly hair, and it was clear this salon does not know how to work with textured hair. My hair came out puffy, uneven, and still curly in sections. Joe the stylist made racially offensive comments about my hair, including calling it "nappy." I picked up a Groupon because I was ready for some hair changing. This place has a few reserved parking spots and some street parking if needed. I got a cut and deep conditioner treatment. The interior was very nice looking, and I had Andrea as a stylist. She was very nice, the conditioning made me hair feel nice and soft, and she listened to my general idea for what I wanted. She and another stylist said how nice my hair cut looked, and I realize that's their jobs, but still, it's nice to get compliments and I was pleased how it turned out. I looked at their regular prices which were still reasonable. I think the customer attention was good and so was the final product. Making an appointment was easy and the whole process was efficient. I hadn't touched my hair since December 19, mostly thanks to COVID. So I was desperate for a color and cut. Called on a Friday and they squeezed me in for the next day with Andrea. They are following all necessary protocols for a safe visit, appt only, leaving name and number for contact tracing, hand sanitizer available, masks required, and limiting customers inside. Andrea was so sweet. She did a great job matching me to a color that looked natural and covered all my grays. Kept my length longer but with some layers for volume and face framing. The best part is the value here, I've paid three times as much at Ulta salons with less personal service. Will definitely be back in 2-3 months for a root touch up. read more

So thankful to have found this salon through Groupon! I got a deal for a haircut, deep conditioning treatment, and a single process color. I redeemed it just in time for the holidays. ***GROUPON FINE PRINT: They charge $20 extra in person if you have long hair.*** I'm always nervous about getting my hair done somewhere new, but my nervousness subsided immediately after walking into the salon. It was packed with clients and the entire staff was so friendly and personable - they seemed like one big family! I was also greeted by the owner, Cheryl. She was very kind and told me to check in at the counter and to help myself to complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies. Patti was my stylist, and she did a great job (pictures to come)! She helped me find the color I wanted, and she thankfully didn't get scissor-happy when I asked her to chop the dry/split ends off my layers but keep the length. She was also really pleasant to talk to. As for the deep conditioning treatment, it didn't make my hair feel any softer than it usually is, so either the treatment wasn't worth the money or my hair is actually softer and nicer than I thought LOL. I wouldn't pay for it separately, but it was still nice to experience it with the Groupon price. I really enjoyed my experience here, so I'll definitely be back even if it means paying full price next time around. Full price here isn't even that bad! I have been to this salon a few times for getting highlights. This time again I went there for the same. This time my experience was totally different. Cheryl was constantly checking her phone while she worked on my hair. I thought it was going to be for a few minutes, but she kept texting and leaving audio messages. This was unprofessional, but I chose to ignore it. Then, Cheryl asked one of the women to wash my hair and remove knots thereafter. As she did that, I was a bit uncomfortable, but it was necessary and I was okay! Now the shocking part - this lady turned around to Cheryl, imitated me and made weird faces. Really?!! All I wanted was a trim so I knew it would be an easy in and out process. The lady who cut my hair took ten minutes. Quick view in the mirror and I liked it. I mean you can't go wrong with a trim right? So I thought. It started pouring rain outside right when she was done so I had to run to my car. I get home and look closer at the cut. My right side is about a half inch shorter than my left side. Now I can't unsee it. Oh well. I'll have to wait for some growth before I get it cut again. I surely will not be going here again. I got the groupon before checking this place on yelp. Reviews were great so I knew I was in good hands. Plus I don't have a local haircut spot and I wanted to find some place I could continue to go to. The groupon covered deep conditioning, haircut, and dry. The deep conditioning took about 30 mins, and another 30 for the cut and dry. I loved the salon itself, very cute and tidy. I could tell they had a lot of loyal customers, and treated everyone like family. Overall i was impressed, I was very happy with my cut, and the owner- Cheryl is the one I went to and she took care of me! Called last minute hoping I could get a blowout which they fit me in which was nice . I don't like writing reviews that aren't 4 or 5 stars but this was needed . 1. Walk into the salon . Greeted asked who I'm with , told them what time my appointment was and with who . Okay . They have no "take home " area (stuff you can buy to upkeep your hair /style) Like shampoo , conditioner, product . Weird . The stylist then came up to me and said "get shampooed" and didn't introduce herself I didn't even know she was my stylist until I was done getting shampooed . Anyway after I was done getting shampooed I hung there for a few mins until the assistant(shampoo girl )asked the stylist if she wanted me in her chair . She said yes . 2. Went to sit in her chair , covered in the last clients hair from a haircut . A lot of hair . Noticeable . They let a new client sit in someone else's hair . Gross . 3. Stylist comes over . She still doesn't shake my hand or introduce herself . Didn't apologize for me sitting in hair . I Don't even think she knew my name . She asked me how I like my blowout, I think thank god in my head that's a good sign . 4. I want volume / body on the bottom as well but just with a round brush . She doesn't put any product in my hair what's so ever . I cringe . She pulls out a dirty round brush filled with hair and cleans it out in front of me with her comb , She uses so much heat on my hair trying to give the bottom body I cringe some more and tell her I don't like that much heat on my hair without being rude . I have fine/medium textured hair with a little wave . Me knowing my hair that I'm actually very good at doing myself I know I don't need a lot of heat on it to get the desired look . 5. She makes no conversation at all . You think me being a new client she'd want to win me over to come to her for more blowouts/haircuts/color. At the end of the blowout she asked me if I wanted hairspray , she only had a freezing hairspray on her station so I most definitely said no it would have ruined my blowout . I asked her to put a little oil on my ends since my ends are dry from previous color and you can see they r dry after you blow it out . She pulls this dirty old container out of her brush drawer that she had to open the cap to scrape the product out of it ‍. End of the story is I'm not a crazy client , all the things I stated , horrible customer service and a bad way to run a business . I'm just trying to find a salon to give me good blowouts where I can go all the time and i feel like this women didn't care that I was in her chair . P.s : my blowout was sooo flat . I left the salon with hair that wasn't completely dried or appealing to the eye by any means. Besides that, the stylist was rude and did not know how to handle long curly hair. I did not get the haircut I asked for and my hair is too short. I wanted a graduated cut, but not much length taken off. I got inches taken off and no graduation. I wanted my bangs trimmed, but only if I could tuck them behind my ear. I can't tuck them behind my ear. The girl who cut my hair gave me the fastest most half-assed shampoo I've ever had. Then when I was under the dryer for my deep-conditioning treatment, which was only put on part of my head, she stood in plain sight, in front of her station, doing her own hair and makeup. Edit: True-I didnt want the shampoo, but Andrea asked. Then when I sat and she started cutting I realized I should get a shampoo pre-deep condition. And she didnt know I was a GroupOn. So far, I've received two men's haircuts from Patti and am very happy with the works she's done. I get a razor cut for texture on the top (she actually uses some kind of straight razor--not just thinning shears) and a #2 on the sides. Looks solid. The price of the cuts were fair ($18) and far superior to anything I would've gotten at my local barber or any one of the chains. The salon has a parking lot next to it, which is a nice convenience, and the place has a real cozy, unpretentious vibe. Patty, the woman who cut my hair, is probably the most sincere, well-meaning hairdresser I've met. You won't get any perfunctory conversation from her. The rest of the staff seems equally pleasant. They gave me the groupon price for a cut and deep conditioning... I had scheduled for a keratin and cut, but decided to go for the deep conditioning instead as I had JUST bleached my hair and was worried about damage. I called that morning and talked to Joe about changing my appointment and the time. When I came in the afternoon, they didn't seem to know that I'd made changes to my appointment, but were nice and accommodating. I explained I'd just heavily bleached my hair and was worried about damaging it further. They said the keratin would've been fine but that I could do the deep condition if I wanted. The pros: Patti who cut my hair was extremely pleasant. As were all the other women at the salon. The cons: My hair afterward was in exceptionally worse shape than when I came in. The cut itself was sort of, strange- with huge chunks cut off in the face framing, instead of the gradual slope that hairdressers usually do. SOMEHOW, I don't understand how, but whatever deep conditioner they used seems to have made my hair even more dry and damaged. I don't get it. Anyway, based on other reviews, maybe my experience was a one-off... but I've never had my hair act so strangely after a cut and condition at any other place ever. Called and asked if I can get my son a hair cut before I can even get all my words out a man answered the phone cut me off as I was asking if I can get a hair cut for my son and said No we have nothing available and hung up then he called back a few min later asking if it's a cut or cut and blow dry and I said no you were rude and hung up . Found this salon on GroupOn for a Keratin treatment and they were able to give me an appointment the next day. They let me know on the phone & when I arrived for my appointment that there was a charge for longer hair (which was fine with my and I'm used to due to my long and thick hair). I prefer this rather than being hit with an extra charge at the end. Patty did my hair trim and Keratin treatment. I asked her just to cut the dead ends and she showed me how much she would be cutting. I was very happy that she cut my hair how I asked and didn't cut too much off. She did a great job with my Keratin treatment and I left with super smooth and straight hair. After 24 hours I was able to wash my hair and loved how my hair looked & felt after. This place is so terrible! This place is zoo. Staff are eating, smoking, hanging out with zero regard for customers. I purchased a groupon for a $99 keratin treatment. I booked my appt well ahead of time (about 3 weeks in advance). I arrived to my appointment on time and waited OVER AN HOUR for any acknowledgement or service. The owner, Cheryl, triple booked herself and had no regard for her customers' time. She gave me a half hearted apology and had the nerve to suggest the wait wasn't all that bad. After waiting an hour, Cheryl applies her make up, chats with her employees and pretty much didn't feel any sense of urgency to get to me. She was EATING while performing my keratin. Her staff was feeding her. She even took breaks to get bites of food. I would NEVER, EVER go back here again. The staff was equally as disrespectful. I will attach a photo of the staff doing NOTHING while I waited an hour just to get shampooed. Oh and be warned, this place double and triple books regularly. I witnessed this myself when the hippie-looking gentlemen behind the counter was scheduling appointments. I honestly believe this place is only busy because of groupon. I used Groupon for cut deep conditioning and full highlight. Cheryl gave me a good haircut and color came out nice. She suggested to color my roots too which is extra 25 and to tone it down is extra 20 . I didn't get the blowout and style coz I know its extra so she said I can just go under the dryer which is fine. The lady in the front desk even offer me a drink.I got lots of compliments including my husband. Cheryl gave me a price how much if I dont use Groupon coz she told me I cannot use it anymore its only 1 time promo per costumer and it's still reasonable. I bought a groupon for a keratin treatment. I did my very first keratin treatment last year and loved it! I chose this salon for two reasons: they use the same keratin treatment that I used last year (la brasiliana) and it got fairly good reviews. I gave this review 2 stars because the owner, who happened to apply the keratin, is very nice. The staff at the salon seemed overall nice but that didn't mean that I got what I wanted. The whole treatment lasted less than an hour and a half which I thought was very unusual. I had told Sheryl, the owner, that my keratin last year took almost 4 hours. She told me that it didn't take that long. She applied the keratin (from a bowl, I never saw the actual product bottle) in large chunks of hair as opposed to smaller sections. She straightened my hair just as I normally would, again, not it smaller sections. I went home and waited the required 24 hours. I showered and washed my hair accordingly- using sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. My hair began to dry and I started to notice that the frizz was setting in and that my hair felt and looked just like it normally is without any products. I was so upset and frustrated!! Nothing had changed after the keratin treatment. I'm posting a pic of the moment my hair fully dried after the keratin this time around vs last year's. They look absolutely nothing alike. I'm posting a pic of the day after (just sleeping on top of my hair) and again you can tell that something isn't right. I didn't use ANY products on my hair last year after my keratin, not even a straightener. Not sure what Mavida salon used on my hair but it was not la brasiliana keratin that's supposed to last 3 months. On the bright side I got a full refund from groupon. Side note- I called la brasiliana office/headquarters to ask whether or not it was safe for me to redo my keratin after a failed attempt. I bought a Groupon for the salon and it was totally delightful. I was greeted from everybody as soon as I walked in and it was not treated differently because I bought a Groupon. They gave me a complementary blow dry Which I appreciate it highly. That level of hospitality is what will make me go back and make them my regular.
