I have not been to a hair salon in years because I just don't feel comfortable sometimes, but having went to this salon was the best decision I have made. I love that it is a few blocks from my house and i absolutely love the staff, they are all so kind. I was offered coffee and cookies various times, this is a first for me. Cheryl was really nice and thoughtful,you can tell she really cares about your hair, because she did not want to damage my hair more by doing highlights. I went to Mavida for the first time in February after buying a Groupon for Keratin and haircut. Cheryl, the owner did my hair. She explained me right away and before doing anything that the Brazilian keratin treatment will not make my hair completely straight but brighten them, nourish them and facilitate the straightening process. I have very curly and dry hair so I did not expect much but the treatment really made them look beautiful. I was really satisfied and went back yesterday for the second treatment (after 4 months!). Cheryl accepted to take my appointment even though it was expected to last after her regular working hours, which I really appreciated due to my busy working schedule. It took me a while to write this review for two reason. the first was that my keratin treatment took about 40 minutes. Which worried me in the beginning because I had read that it takes any where from two to three hours. I had my keratin treatment done by Cheryl on Sept 8. So I figured I would wait a month to make sure the treatment lasted. It did and i was really happy with the results. Then I got super busy and forgot to write the review. i followed the instructions to the t and I am very happy with the results. Very nice salon, and sweet staff. I will definitely be going back. Salons are the epitome of treating groupon customers like second class citizens. I had such high hopes this one would be different after reading some yelp reviews. NOPE. So first off I was hoping to talk to the stylist about making my highlights look more natural. Maybe throw in some low lites to blend it? "That'll be $5 a foil" ummm ok well then never mind. What do you think about cutting some layers? "I can't cut SOME layers, I'd have to layer all of it" pffffft ok. Then get this- she started in on the foils WITH THE LEFTOVER BLEACH from the previous client! Not only does that obviously not match my color but is it sanitary?! Then she splattered bleach on my leggings. So they're ruined. And said nothing. Then for the cut I asked her to definitely not take off the length. And like most scissors-happy stylists she did. The icing was she informed me that the Groupon didn't include a blow out. "That's Groupon for you." Ok you're the owner, you can do whatever you want. There's no Groupon police telling you to shaft me. But it DID include a "cut and style" so how do you style my wet head? How much to dry it I woefully asked. "$25" So I sat under a dryer while she just sat there waiting for her late customer- it's not like she had someone on deck. But to that point the other reviews are right- a customer asked her how many clients she was working on at one point and she said 3. Way to wedge me in and make me feel like you're really trying to earn my business. A 65 dollar Groupon seems like a great idea until you tip 30 and leave with a crappy cut and bad highlights mixed for someone else's hair. read more

I tried Mavida on a whim using a Groupon. I was greeted with hellos and smiles as soon as I walked in. My stylist, Andrea, introduced herself and asked if I wanted coffee or water. We chatted about my cut and color, she asked me some questions and we settled on a color. The color was perfect and the hair cut was super flattering. All the time, we struck up an easy banter. Despite the probably 25 year age difference (me being on the higher end!). The salon was very busy, but kept very clean. Constant sweeping and wiping down of chairs. And they have cookie! Andrea just moved to NJ and is building up her client list. I encourage anyone to make an appointment with her. You won't be disappointed. I will be back, even without a Groupon ;) read more

Where do I begin? Mavida Salon was extremely welcoming and beyond attentive with clients. I couldn't ask for a better experience! The owner Cheryl fixed my highlights that another salon had botched. She did a great job without frying my hair! Not to mention, before booking the appointment and providing services, Mavida Salon requested that I come in to evaluate the condition of my hair. I took my baby boy with me and my stylist which I can't remember her name (she is blonde with glasses) took care of me and was extremely considerate the entire time. I went to the salon looking like a MESS, and she made my hair look OUTSTANDING! She even has the iron the sucks the steam to prevent you from smelling all the chemicals!! Have been to this salon a couple times and love Patti for my keratin and Melissa for my color. Both are so much fun, great laughs and do a great job with my hair. Mavida is sort of hard to find because it is on a Main Street, but they do have some parking, or you can park on the side streets. Anyway, this was my first time here and this salon is friendly, accommodating, and very affordable. I had long, and dark hair and wanted to color my hair for the very first time. I had came in for a hair consult and spoke to Sophie and Cheryl on what kind of magic they could pull on my damaged, long black hair. I then scheduled an appointment with them, and was very lucky that they could squeeze me in on New Year's Eve (new hair new me lol.) As I came in, Sophie took me in right away, and started working on my hair. She was VERY, VERY, gentle, patient, and knew the exact colors I wanted. After a few hours, my hair was finally finished, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the outcome, and it did not cost me an arm a leg to do it! I am definitely coming back here for a root touch up, and will most likely become my new go-to salon. This place knows what they are doing, and has great and happy stylists. read more

On the fence.. I got keratin by a Andrea. Was terrible. She didn't dry hair throughly before applying and ironed in huge chunks. I've had this brand keratin many, many times and it's been wonderful. Never applied like this tho. I did mention my hair was still damp, and usually smaller sections are flat ironed. But she insisted her technique was perfectly fine.My bad for not stopping her and making a scene but I'm not like that. Granted it was a groupon and 3 months ago but it sucked from day1.I didn't complain bc I didn't have time to redo anyway. Went for color last weekMentioned to Rico. Told me to call Cheryl. Ok. What the heck right? Very nice to offer free redo with Andrea. Day before my appointment Andrea is gone.. Now, free redo in Nov when Owner is back(maybe), or $100 Groupon price now. Stewing on it tho...It's not about paying the money. My biz is satisfaction oriented and I'm paid on production too. Redos at No charge is Cost of doing business. 11 stylists and no one but owner can redo? $9 a piece to keep a client that lives across the street and needs color at least once a month+ keratin+highlights +blowouts for special occasions . Not worth it?? Mixed feelings for sure. Priorities seem wrong. At least based on my experience. If someone did work for a patient and that patient isn't happy and that patient rolls in on my day..I'm obligated to fix at no charge. Tried expressing my feelings with Cheryl. She was in a rush but I kind of expected a call back like I'd have done at my profession. It's not even my office! Really would have loved for this to be "my spot". So convenient but Can't quite wrap my head around MAVIDA biz model. Sadly seems it's Finance first, client satisfaction next. Hated writing this review because it really didn't want to burn this bridge but this just doesn't seem right to me. The offer for free redo WAS very nice considering it was 3 months ago, but, expecting me to wait at least a month because another operator could not be reimbursed for his/her effort from profits is still mind-boggling. $100 bucks cost Mavida minimally at least 1/month color, keratin every 3-4 months, occasional blowouts, and regular waxing‍. Priorities I guess. I hope it was worth the $100. I had my keratin redone in a different salon, also very close by because I didn't want to wait and just couldn't pay again for a botched service. Price was close to MAVIDA Groupon price. In my professional world, all providers in the office represent the office not just themselves. Think how outraged you'd be if your front tooth broke, you paid to fix it, it broke again a week later and they charged you again because the operator that fixed it was no longer there. Patti has been cutting my hair for 33 years, and is so amazing I can't even explain. She's done everything from a late 80s spiral perm, to my signature short choppy cut. She is creative, efficient and knows exactly what look goes on what face. I never let anyone else cut my hair and I love how she uses the razor on me. The entire staff was so welcoming, as if I'd been a regular since they opened. I had the pleasure of my hair getting highlighted by Katie. We took time to discuss what I wanted, her suggestions, and said let's go for it! My hair came out absolutely GORGEOUS! I couldn't be more pleased! Since I moved back to jersey I had a very hard time finding someone I trusted to do my hair, that is until I went to Melissa. I can't review the services because the lady who answered the phone didn't allow me to get that far.... I wanted to book a keratin and hair cut appointment that I bought from Groupon, and when she explained that there will be $25 extra charge for long hair I said ok, what does long mean? She mentioned mid back. I said I will be cutting it also so after it's cut it will be above mid back, and she said I have to see it if it's past your shoulders or not, I said well no I don't want it that short but it will be above mid back. She said I'll have to see it. I didn't think it was such a hard thing to clarify so I said I don't know why this is difficult, and then she yelled at me about how she was being honest and upfront about the charges and how I'm being rude and then she hung up the phone. I called back because I thought well that was a miscommunication let's iron this out, and she continued to yell at me about how I'm being rude to her and hung up the phone again. (It was a long yell session that time) Now- call me crazy but aren't customers allowed clarification for extra charges? I forgot to mention that within the yelling about how rude I was being, she patted herself on the back for using "the same amount of keratin as a customer who paid the normal price". I said well I would hope so otherwise you wouldn't be servicing your customers. Was she proud of that? Seriously? I don't know who this lady was- as she wouldn't tell me her name or transfer me to a manager. Maybe she was the owner, I don't know. But no owner or employee should ever speak to, never mind yell at, a potential customer and then hang up on a customer twice. I don't need someone to tell me the customer is always right- I don't really even believe that, but the customer is surely allowed to ask questions especially if it's regarding clarification of extra charges. Anyway- they aren't getting a penny of my money and I will surely not recommend them to anyone I know. Salons are a dime-a-dozen, customer service and experience is what brings customers back. I came here through groupon. Melissa is very nice. She is not scissor crazy and gave me the trim I wanted. Only thing I didn't really love was that after the cut there is no blowout but sitting under the dryer. I'm so used to it coming alongside but I probably just missed that part of the groupon; always read! The people are very nice and I liked trying it out! I'd go back for a trim or a simple hair cut. I didn't get the wow factor (I'm really picky with my hair stylists) that comes when I'm so happy with my hair. It's not the best I ever had but it's good! One star is generous!!! This has got to be the WORST place I had ever been to. I liked a friend of mines hair style so she recommended this place & I should have Melissa cut my hair. Made my appointment & was very excited to get my hair done. My first impression upon walking in was that I walked into a circus freak show. From the owner to each "cutter" one freakier than the next. The owner stared me down not even saying hello. I told her I had an appointment with Melissa & she told me to go find her outside. So I went back outside to find 2 women talking & I asked if one of them was her. I was then told to go back inside to get my hair washed. After getting my hair washed I stood there not knowing which station to go to. After a few minutes, Melissa "hand motioned" me from across the room to her station. I explained the cut I wanted & she said no problem that she knew exactly what I was talking about. The next day I saw my friend to show her & to my dismay it was NOT the cut I wanted so she called Melissa & told her. I was told to come back & it would be fixed. I went but again NOT the style I had asked for. They are NOT a friendly place & seem to refuse to give the style one wants. NOT GOOD read more

I have been going to this salon for about 2 yrs. This year I am growing my hair out and the past 3 trims turned out to be 2-3 inch cuts. I don't understand when you say 1/2 an inch trim why it turns into a shoulder length cut. Come on. Over and over again while sitting in the chair I say don't cut my bangs and 1/2 an inch. What does he do...cuts at least 2 inches off. I can not go back to this salon because of the anxiety it causes me. He doesn't listen to the customer. 3 times this happened! read more

On Thursday August 9, I went to Mavida Salon for my Keratin Treatment that I purchased on Groupon. I have had many Keratin Treatments and I am very familiar with the process. With that said, When I arrived Cheryl, the owner, was completely ready for me. She was very charming and gracious, offering to get me coffee,snacks,etc. The staff was equally as friendly and sweet. After the treatment, Cheryl noticed my ends were in desperate need of a cut and she cut them for me for free;how sweet! Everyone was pleasant, and knowledgeable. The only reason I did not give this place five stars is because I am curious to see how long the treatment will last. As of now, my hair feels silky and smooth, and being a repeated keratin user (about every 2-4 months depending) the process did what it was supposed to. I have very long, curly hair, that some stylists are intimidated to work on, but Melissa can create any look I want. I have the perfect ombre highlight, and she cuts my hair perfectly.
