Oooooooooh... Ulta Beauty has REALLY stepped up its game over the past few years. I used to vouch for Sephora alllllll the time, but as of recently... I might be making a switch. This location is in the Bergen Town Center, so you might find parking to be a pain in the a$$... Some pros of Ulta: *You get the best of both worlds because they carry both drugstore and high-end beauty brands. They've added a lot more brands recently. I was shook lol. So you'll have much more variety when you shop. *Their rewards/points system is unmatched. The points you accumulate can be used as discounts on future purchases. They also have a lot of BOGO deals, sales, freebies, and events to give you chances to multiply your points. At Sephora, you can only use your points towards whatever samples they are offering at that time. They don't have as many incentives. *They offer brow services *They have a fully operating hair salon *Stores are generally much more spacious and bigger I would say two of the biggest cons are that Ulta does not carry many "hot" or "unique brands"... Sephora definitely does. I've also had better customer service at Sephora. This Ulta location can be a hit or miss with the employees. Some are very knowledgeable about products and some are not. I came here to return a Revlon dryer that all of a sudden sparked and made a weird noise. Apparently the Revlon brush dryer is doing that a lot. After I returned it, I went to check out the other hair dryers. I am particularly follicularly blessed with long hair so I love a good hair dryer. They have a nice display for testing out dryers which I must compliment because I have not seen this anywhere else. I tested the half shot and it looked good! read more

Jenny the manager is great with customers. She takes her time to answer your questions and help you find what you are looking for. This Ulta has "clearance" on the pricey side. Just heads up you can find cheaper prices another Ulta. Fun fact this Ulta is diagonal from Target in Bergen town however the Target says Paramus, NJ in the address and this Ulta says Maywood, NJ. Try another Ulta store- Ulta at Bergen Town Plaza Paramus New Jersey is understaffed , don't have any professional experience , make mistakes at the register, seem to purposely not use or add points , and are rude to female customers - yes, because of the location which is more convenient, I've tried the store three times and never again I have gone to the Edgewater store and that is an excellent store. In fact I'll post another review when I go to another location to return a product, this Ulta sold me forgetting to give me the discount & not doing a proper transaction with other items including pretending they had no bathrooms that they were giving as a holiday giveaway and when my friend question because she saw a whole pile another front desk person was really rude to her. The customer service is ridiculous. I don't come to this ulta beauty at all, but when I went on the app, there this was the only one that let me buy online and pick up in store. When the app said that I was ready, they were not ready at all. I had to go through THREE people to get my items. They didn't even start packing my things and getting it. Also turns out that they didn't have all the items that they said that they had.. so there was no point in picking this place at all. I don't know why the other two couldn't just tell me that. This place has definitely gotten cleaner since the pandemic hit! Mainly because the testers are closed so there are no more makeup swatches everywhere! Before when the testers were open to use, it looked like the staff didn't clean things up because there was makeup everywhere. The downsides are that products are typically out of stock and the line is usually long. And it's not even popular items that are out of stock either, I once asked a staff member when an item would be restocked and he said he didn't know but it usually takes a few weeks. Just went to this Ulta the other day. While I was checking out and my items were scanned I realized they didn't ask if I wanted to use my points. So when I asked the ulta employee ringing me up if I had points I could use, she was clearly ANNOYED I asked and said how now she had to cancel the purchase now.... Umm isn't it your job to ask if I want to use my points?? I noticed too before I even swiped my credit card and was only buying 3 things. It took her an extra 20 seconds to cancel the order and check my points. I will start by saying that my vision is not an easy task and I knew it would be a lot of work, especially since my hair is thick and curly naturally but Karen tackled it like the pro that she is! Ulta has my heart, I mean I'm a little bit of a makeup junkie so this is my church . I usually order online but I really wanted to see the product I wanted before I bought it. The problem with this store is that it is always a mess! Literally just buns of stuff all mixed up and boxes all over. You would think in a "beauty" industry they would try to be more appealing. The staff is ok not too great but not awful. Also, they never give samples at this location I feel. I always get them at the one I'm Clifton or willowbrook and also when I order online. If you shop here a lot I highly suggest their credit card if you can keep it under control! They do a special points program and I save mine up till the end of the years and buy myself something I really want! This time it was the Hot Tools charcoal infused styling tool. It should have been about $80 but with my points it cost me 24! read more

Where to start? Maybe with lack of being greeted when walking in while staff talked and gossiped to one another? Or the lack of help with finding items we needed? We were offered help AFTER finding what we needed. This store is a mess. Items were all over the place and in the wrong places which made it difficult to find what we needed. Once at the register we asked about the gift with purchase. The cashier seemed new or overwhelmed so she deferred to another cashier who said her name was Samantha. She was curt, rude and not helpful at all. The cashier said she could not "find" either gift with purchase even though today is actually the first day of the gift so it should be in stock. Its as if they don't want to look for the items or don't want to give them out. One of the gifts with purchase I found out about after I left the store as I wasn't offered that gift by the cashier. Finally, "Samantha" was so rude and giving us such dirty looks (weird as were just asking about the gift which was supposed to come with our purchases) that we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Won't return. I usually buy cosmetics online, however I found another Ulta in the area where the staff was much nicer and the store much more organized. Thanks for an awful experience. The one time I have a question, no one could help me. I never leave Yelp reviews but the customer service here was ridiculous. I came in with an exchange for a hair drying brush because the one I got for Christmas didn't work for me. I asked three separate people for a recommendation and they all said they'd get someone to help. No one ever came. I recently had my hair done at the salon with Nicole T and it came out amazing! I needed all over color from roots to the ends. We had to cover up some faded/ grown out color and the color came out just as we discussed. The service was superb and the blowout at the end was just how I like it. I just left Ulta with a bad taste in my mouth. I bought a makeup mirror yesterday and paid $98.04 plus tax. I wasn't happy with it so I return it today for an exchange.and the one I pickup was selling for $55.99 but noticed I was charge $79.99. I asked the cashier and he said the mirror prices were not correct. Whose fault is that? Not mine. I told him I'm not paying $79.99 when it shows clearly $55.99. He said that price expired. Not my fault. He called a manage over and she blatantly told me that price is incorrect. Seriously! Whose problem is that? I buy their stuff all the time. Now I will have to rethink about shopping there. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a store advertising one price but do not honor it. I normally have nothing bad to say about Ulta but this one really isn't good. The staff doesn't seem to have much interest in helping customers. I asked two people at two different times if they had a product or knew where a product was and they didn't even check they just said they didn't have it. The store is probably one of the messiest I have been to also. The only thing I like about this location is that they do sell high end fragrance brands such as Chanel and YSL. I bought mascara 2 years ago it was used and I returned but wanted to give another change couple of days ago and AGAIN they gave me used product! And I called to let them know manager was way tooo rude. She said I'm not giving you a problem come and return it we are not allowed to open it! When you check the box from outside you could see that it was open and not talking about the inside THE BOX WAS OPEN? Ulta beauty has been my go to store for makeup and skin care products. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with Symone an employee at this location. She was very rude and nasty, lacked basic customer service skills and made me feel uncomfortable during my visit. I needed help with getting some makeup for a bridal shower and she gave me the worst attitude and failed to maintain a welcoming environment for customers. My expectations have not been met, I've decided I will be returning the products I bought and will not be returning to this location. This company should be screening their employees better as well as a workplace sensitivity test, prior to hiring. read more

This is a horrible store and deserves no stars. I've also had the experience of never being greeted. staff never look up from whatever they're doing in the aisles to ask if you need help. Or they are rude, too pushy with upselling and appear miserable. I bought an item that had a free gift. I had to tell the cashier, Suki, that it had one. She was unfriendly and did not make eye contact. She made a half assed attempt to find the free Ouai Item then said they didn't have it, offering some lame excuse about it being the beginning of the month. Funny how the store had the new full Oproduct line prominently on display as you walked in. Of course I was able to find it at the Edgewater store after going way out of my way to do that. I don't think I'll shop at the Maywood store again. Edited to add that I believe this is a management and training issue. Management has never been visible when I've shopped here. Believe me I would know as I've been in other Ultas where the store manager has personally assisted me. Went in for a beach wave, walked out with a perm all the way to my head. A few days later I noticed patches of hair missing in my head along with a kink in the center of my head. The stylist (Brenda) told me that the kink would not stay there. I am continuously loosing hair. I contacted corporate and they made me go back to the salon for them to look at my hair. The salon manager (Jasmine) told me that she saw everything that I complained about to corporate. Corporate then told me that they could not offer me anything more than the refund of the services because Jasmine said there was nothing wrong with my hair. So now I have missing hair throughout my head and a kink in the front of my head. I do not suggest anyone go here for hair services. read more

I went for a make up release so got there at 10am when they opened. To begin with they were picking and choosing who they allowed in and who they said no to when it was a few minutes before opening. Then at 10am still did not unlock the door. As one person walked out she said no we aren't open. I was like uh it's 10? They literally made sure to wait until 10:01 to open, I guess that 1 minute was that important. So I couldn't find the display anywhere and asked someone at the register she goes "who, what?". I mean I named one of the largest names in the make up industry and you don't know who that is? She goes "we don't sell that brand" and was laughing with a coworker as she said this. So freaking rude!! I showed her the article, and said well you do, it's being released at all Ulta's today. Her reply "go check in that corner then" LOL I did and there was hair stuff! They have no clue what they are talking about!! It's ok I went to the Montvale Ulta and they were helpful. But this is reason 47392 I stick to Sephora and ordering directly from the companies for my make up. Stores like Ulta hire people who are clueless about the make up industry, and frankly rude! So let me say that I have been a longtime Sephora customer until recently. I have no idea when Ulta started popping up all over the place, but I am SO glad they did and that I happened to stumble in one (Garfield, NJ) for the first time. I have earned more than the 500 point reward at Sephora and never wanted to use the points because I never really like the samples and didn't want to waste them. I honestly cannot remember how I got onto the Ulta site or how I received coupons to my email, but what brought me in was that I received a freebie offer of something I needed/wanted to try. No one has ever helped me at Sephora, and more often than not, I find that the store associates just chat with each other, and when I've ever asked for something specific they had trouble finding it or was out of stock. I've received such little attention there that I've stood at the cash register for 10 minutes without anyone checking me out (all standing in the middle of the floor talking to each other), and so I left. I have been in many different Sephora's in different states and have never had a good experience. Fast forward to Ulta. I want to give a major shout out to Carmangelo who was SUPER helpful and has such great energy. I had stopped into this Ulta outside the Bergen Town Center to get some moisturizer, noticed they had one from Clinique that I've used before, grabbed it off the shelf, and went on my way. Carmangelo came over asking what skin type I had and let me know that I picked up the wrong one for oily skin and not dry. Phew. Then he said there was a special running and if I came back with my receipt I would get an extra product. Yay! I was so happy, AND I have to say that when he approached I was wondering what sales pitch was going to happen, and was completely shocked to find that he was truly just trying to be helpful. I went back to this location for the second time and Carmangelo was there again asking if I needed anything. Super impressed. read more

The first thing is that the managers are a bunch of you know what's. They just stand around and do not help other employees who clearly need help and have lines a mile long. Secondly, trust in this...it doesn't matter what level customer you are or how much money you have ever spent with this company.... they do not care and won't help at all with returns to make things right. It's as if you are a waste of their time that they spend just standing around looking well once again, you know. It doesn't pay to purchase from the store. The staff who works here is amazing. And the store is open on a Sunday! (Yay!) I had to run into Ulta in between my grocery shopping at Whole Foods to find a certain lip color. They were so nice and attentive. We even joked about the lipstick color's name, "Shame" ("Do you have no Shame?!"). I've been going to this Ulta for over 4 years or so. I've never been followed around the store. This trip however the security guard followed me around the store . To a point where he ran across the store to find me.RAN. When I asked him what he needed he walked away. There were many customers in the store and I understand that he may as well have been doing his job. But he presences around me while I browsed really bothered me. I was the only brown person in the store . And I was very offended. I've lived in Maywood for 20 years and go to the Bergen mall weekly . The woman bleached my hair to a white/yellow color and then dyed it back to the dark brown it was!! I've done waxing and threading in the past and my brows have never been better since I started coming to Melissa here. She is very knowledgeable about brows and really cares about her clients. After my appointment with Melissa, I had a hair consultation with Meredith and WOW. She is also so incredibly knowledgeable and doesn't just try and sell you the most expensive services. She really cares about your hair health and wants to make sure things are done correctly. If you ever come to this location, make sure you look for Melissa and or Meredith. 10/10!!! read more

Went here today with my mom and little brother tagged alone since my moms bday is tomorrow i wanted to treat her to some stuff... A woman dressed in all black and a crossbody bag came over and asked my mom if she was "confused." My mom is a very simplistic person, she uses the same few products unless I recommend her to some. The woman was clearly one of those fake shoppers that try to catch people stealing. Ok, I get it that's your job, but it's a makeup store and we were looking at eyeshadows and face creams to see what we wanted to get. We're obviously going to be browsing around. The woman was talking to my mom and I walked over and suggested for her to show my mom a few of the Ordinary products since she likes those. The woman snootily shrugged me off and gave me a look as if I was just a stranger talking to them. She said to my mom "thats for kids." Funny because i'm not a kid but ok. Youthful skin would've been more appropriate. She then directed my mom and tried to sell her an $88 face cream... mind you, my mom looks amazing for her age, her regular routine is just fine. When I followed I guess the woman realized, and tried making small talk. For one, shame on you for trying to take advantage and sell her an $88 product when she didn't even ask for your help, two, shame on you ulta for hiring people that made my mom so upset she felt like she never wants to go back to that ulta because of the fact that they made her feel so horrible as if she would ever steal. This is by far the worst Ulta location i've ever been to! People that work here are either always talking among themselves or nowhere to be found. They really need to do a better job of find employees that actually WORK. Can't say anything bad about this place. I probably won't ever shop for makeup, hair, and other beauty products elsewhere because I have zero reasons too. There is always a sale, coupon, or giveaway of some sort, so that makes you want to spend your money there as opposed to other stores. In addition, as a platinum member I get a few extra perks and who doesn't love that? They carry all of the must-have brands, both expensive and affordable, making it a one-stop shop. I haven't taken advantage of their salon services but, seems like they are worth trying. Been coming here for my cosmetic needs for over a year. I love that they're open on Sundays and also have a salon too. Sign up for their free membership program to earn points and get deals in the mail. Ulta sells drugstore brands like Maybelline, Revlon, Cover Girl, etc but also carries higher end brands such as Stila, Too Faced, Benefit and Bare Minerals. Their service sucks here. There's no one on the sales floor to answer questions. I slipped and almost fell on broken glass and liquid in the skincare aisle. Their inventory of products sucks, so many items were out of stock. When I went to pay I wasn't greeted. When I showed my birthday coupon and 2xs point she wouldn't answer my questions regarding it.
