Ahh, where to begin! I called at 3:30 on a Friday desperate for an appointment after my other Salon called and cancelled last minute. I called and April was able to take me at 4, for a single process balayage! I was so impressed and thankful for that. When I got there I was greeted by the receptionist (I don't remember her name but she was fabulous too, she did a great job curling my hair)! April did an amazing job on my hair, and even fixed my bangs that I decided to cut myself that morning! I would recommend this salon to anyone! It's so cute and homey inside too! I went to do a trial today for an updo, I asked if we could try at least two types of styles since it was a trial they said yes as long as is within my hour. Once I get there I show him the beautiful picture on the top left and asked him to pls do this updo. "I get absolutely i can totally do this"... needless to say I ended up looking like a hot mess the style doesn't look like the picture at all not only that but within the HR that was supposed to be mine he's texting then he needs to play music before he starts and picks up the business phone 3 times and anyone point he sits down and is asking someone on the other line to stop yelling at him(again during the time that I paid full price for), at the end; this was my one look after paying full price for an updo he said he didn't want to get too into it until the day I come back for the actual event. By the way the pictures that you see is after me telling him that I didn't like the look of the hair in the front at all. There was no one there only other employees and I did t want to embarrass him or be obnoxious and complain, I even gave him a tip and he pushed for me to make the appointment for the say of the event, I proceeded to make it to avoid a confrontation. She took her time (and much patience) getting the color just right. Look at the photo - her work speaks for itself. From the moment you walk into this comfortable, lovely salon you feel welcomed. April, the owner of the salon, sat down with me and showed me specific styles of short hair that would work for me. I had a stylist named Jackie (I think) and she was lovely! I had made an appointment to go to DryBar to get my hair done for a wedding and the day before I decided to try this place that I can walk to from my house instead. I'm so happy I did! She did a wonderful job with the blow out and curls and listened to exactly what I wanted in adding a braid. She was nice, asked a lot of questions as to what I wanted, and was very attentive. I'm not a big yelper, but I need to give credit where credit is due. I just got my hair highlighted at 21 Godwin and I walked out elated. I had been hearing good things from friends about the quality of their services and finally checked it out. I am so happy I got my ass in April's chair. I have had a lot of sub par color work done on my hair and went in apprehensive. I apparently had nothing to fear as April worked her magic to return me to the perfect sunny blonde I had asked for. Everyone in this shop is super personable and made me feel like one of the gang. It was an ideal salon experience, I was in and out in no time, enjoyed my time there and left looking pretty damn good. The prices are some of the best I've seen in the area. Over the years I've been to numerous stylists in NYC, and some very high end salons, but grew weary of the commute in, so I sought a salon closer to me. After a string of mediocre haircuts in N.J. I happened upon 21 Godwin through Yelp and booked a haircut appointment with the owner, April. When I arrived she immediately noticed that I was coloring my hair at home, and despite me only having an appointment for a hair cut, she took it upon herself to fit me in her busy schedule and color my hair "properly". My hair was literally two toned from using in home kits. I was immediately impressed that she wanted to help me look my best. April was a true professional in every sense. Great conversation and styling skills that rival any of the $100+ salons I visited in Manhattan. I left that salon looking and feeling tremendous. The staff, as well, are kind and courteous. I was on a mission on a Friday to get highlights in my hair after canceling an appt at a different salon. All places local to me were either booked or closing since it was late. I decided to call 21 Godwin after checking yelp and seeing great reviews. I should mention again it was like 5:30 on a Friday evening and they were closing in a half hour! I called and was told I can come in, and I would be seeing Laura. I had mini consultation with Laura, and let her know I was using jet black box dye for the past 2 years, and I wanted a golden/bronde balayage. She was upfront and told me I might get a reddish tone first because of my dark hair but she would do her best. To start off, all the employees there were great, and Laura was super nice. She spent about almost four hours lifting my hair color and doing foils. She even stayed late after to style it. It looked great leaving the salon, and now that the color has worn in, I can definitely see it has the golden tone I wanted, although I will lighten it in the future to get the exact tone. I wanted to find a salon in Ridgewood that was near to our ceremony. 21 Godwin wound up being a great choice. The salon is very cutely decorated, and has a fun, relaxed atmosphere. I got so many compliments on my hair and makeup. Women thought I must have had airbrushed makeup, it looked so good. And they where so good about taking the time to do it well, so I wouldn't have to worry about it all day. And I really didn't.
