So they worked some sort of magic that I'll never understand and somehow did exactly what I wanted without doing a balayage or dying my hair - I think it was a toner or low lights - anyway, it's all natural and they kept my natural highlights from the summer while bringing out the deep tones to my natural hair and it ended up looking exactly what I wanted. My hair is SO soft, shiny, healthy, and perfect. I can't thank them enough! Not only did they do a perfect job on my hair, but they were so accommodating and welcoming. I went on Halloween night and they were giving out candy to all trick-or-treaters. At one point, my parking meter was going to expire so they paid for my extra hour of parking which isn't a lot, but they even ran outside to put it in for me. Each stylist there is so personable and kind. They're really so wonderful there. I'll admit that I try Groupons all the time trying to find a steady salon since I've moved up to Bergen County. The hairstylist was more concerned about keeping me happy than having the confidence and boldness to take an artistic approach. The experience was a little too safe for what I wanted. Luckily I've been here before when they did my hair for my wedding. Although this time, after going through tons of reviews, I found that Laura, the owner, was highly recommended for bleaching hair. I met with her quickly for a quick consultation. I did it to show her how extra thick and long my hair is- so we can plan out how long the first session would be and rough pricing of course. She was very honest with me by telling me she's unsure if she can get to the color I desire in one session because she wants to keep the integrity of my hair. After hearing her say that, I knew I was in good hands. My first appointment with Laura felt like a breeze. She walked me through every process she was doing. I asked a lot of questions just for my own knowledge since this is so new to me. She was kind enough to answer them all! She was very attentive to me and kept making sure my hair was still silky soft. By the end of the day, my hair color wasn't what it was supposed to be yet but I trusted the process! She told me she didn't want to stress out my roots as they put a ton of bleach on my hair already. The color I left with wasn't bad actually. I fell in love with it! Not to mention my hair was super soft still and felt as if the chemicals from the dye didn't affect my hair at all! I left that day with a smile on my face thanks to Laura! My final session was yesterday and this time Laura had a helper lol! I was so glad to see it since she definitely needed help with my hair haha. They started off with bleaching my roots after that they did the rest of my hair. The bleach ended up burning my scalp, but it's okay it'll get better soon lol. The hair washing is my favorite part omg. Mainly cause their shampoos and conditioners SMELL SOOO GOOD!!! It made me want to bring all their products home!! After all that, my hair came out beautifully! From jet black to a HEALTHY bleached sandy blonde!! Let me just say that this hair studio has the nicest and funniest team. They're all like family and are willing to help each other out without any problems! It's definitely a nice environment to be in! The music is perfect and again everyone is super nice here. I'm definitely going to be a regular and will refer all my friends and family here!! It's nice to know that I finally found a salon that genuinely cares for their customers and especially their hair! I have been in Manhattan salons & I put myself thru college in Chicago working as a receptionist in premiere salons. Vain is at at the top for being the coziest, well kept, clean, & friendliest salons. Upon entering, they took my coat, showed me to the unbelievable sofa (I was early), & made me a coffee. I was greeted by the owner, who is very hands on in the business & sweet. This place really is welcoming & makes this place a cozy, but nice, neighborhood place. Everyone that works here will acknowledge you & make you feel like you are at home. I truly was sad to leave when my hair service ended, but I look forward to going back. Overall - top notch, well cared for salon that truly welcomes your visit!! Just a tip - park in the back. Meters are for 2 hours & the time is up - someone will run change to your meter. My experience with SARA is everything & more. I highly recommend for men, women, AND children. Sara is well experienced in hair of all types & colors. She truly loves this purpose in life & really enjoys people overall. She colors like like a true artist & applies color like Da Vinci or Picasso. Sitting in her chair, you feel like a canvas. I am male & have shoulder length hair & wanted to look like I was at the beach for a summer. She nailed it - it was perfect. I have also sent her many female friends her way for various color & cut services & they have all been pleased. She has a natural & "pretty" color sense - her work is never processed or fake looking. You look at her work on Instagram & think, "that's really nice!". She also has a "conservative" way of cutting. You don't ever have to be worried she will chop your hair off. She only wants to make sure you have healthy hair & will only cut what's needed, unless you ask for more. Such a rarity. One other note - Sara is very rehearsed in hair care. She will honestly recommend salon products that would be good for you & if they don't carry it - she will suggest products that can be found online or on Amazon. For an example - I needed a "blue" shampoo for blonde hair & a Biotin vitamin to help my hair from a thyroid condition. Thanks to her recommendation - I'm doing good. One tip - if she recommends a salon "condition treatment" - please take it. It is incredible & worth every penny (not expensive!). Overall - I HIGHLY recommend Vain Salon & Sara for all hair needs. However, there was one issue that ultimately made me stop coming. She spends a lot of time chatting with other staff members while working. During my last appointment, my color took nearly four hours, and it genuinely felt as though half of that time was spent on conversations unrelated to my appointment. While cutting my hair, she became so distracted that she completely missed one side which I only noticed after when I came home. I don't mean this as a rude comment, but as constructive feedback. I don't mind friendly conversation in a salon, but I also expect my stylist's attention to be on the client. More importantly, I simply can't spend half a day at a hair appointment. I work five days a week and only have two days off, and those days are precious. As much as I appreciate the quality of the work, I eventually stopped going because I didn't feel my time was being respected. Great service isn't just about the end result--it's also about respecting your customers' time.
