words such as organic, wild-caught, ALL natural... appear ALL over the menu. and while these words tend to also come with some ambiguity, i have no idea what the crap hydroponic butter iceburg lettuce is! the menu is already extensive enough to navigate through much less decipher frou frou words. either way, we didn't come here b/c we're super healthy and green human beings who strive to eat organic whenever possible- we just wanted to check this place out. i'd suggest giving the menu a look-see before stopping in since orders are placed at the counter where there's not a lot of room to stand around and wonder which of the 15 ($10) burgers/sandwiches you feel like eating tonight. i went with the spicy fish tacos. it had neither organic, wild-caught, or all natural in its description- though it DID say "micro greens", which i have no idea what that means either. i thought they were decent at best. truly, they were cabbage tacos, served on a single corn tortilla and a hint of fish. single corn tortilla means eat fast before whatever juices soak through and render the tortilla useless as everything breaks through. my BFF had the "naturewell natural beef burger". it wasn't too bad either, but didn't amaze us by any means. he found it too mushy, as in to say the whole wheat bun and patty blended so well together that nothing stood out. i found it hard to believe it was so light considering its appearance. it looks to be a hefty burger, but when you hold it, it's extremely lightweight. PINK velvet cake... yes. it's not bad folks. pretty friggin good actually. a non-traditional spin on your traditional red velvet cake. the texture is a little bit lighter as the frosting wasn't heavy on cream cheese flavor. a hint of white chocolate added in the mix made it a whole new thing. and that's generally what i love ruggles for- the desserts. (though i should say, a pink cake is the complete opposite of natural) notes: -the Sweet Potato Fries were suhhhweet! (i'm always partial to SPF) -organic ketchup, no so suhhhweet and actually rather watery. -the ambiance/decor was modern and unique, almost magical. sigh with me... *aaaah* -community sink area, which may be a little weird if you just wanted to see if you had pink cake stuck in your teeth. -dyson hand dryers. yes, that is why you're paying $8 for your hummus and $11 for your salad. eat up, wash your hands, dry them paper free and go about your merry way. read more

I've never once reviewed a restaurant, but I was so taken aback by their lack of concern that I decided I needed to. Went today with friends. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was ok. It could have been seasoned more the fries were cold. The crab cakes were crispy on the outside mushy inside. My friend's did like the shrimp pasta. My guy friend ordered the roasted chicken he didnt like it and returned it after one bite. I will go back but the quality was not that great. I may stick to the pizzas next time because its hard to mess up. read more

The Ruggles on Montrose is a Houston institution, and I love the food, so imagine my happiness when I heard they were going to open a Ruggles green in City Centre. The "green" concept is awesome with fresh sustainable ingredients, and fresh food. The location is perfect, with its open space, and easy to hear conversation. Outdoor seating-check...My favorite St. Arnolds Christmas Tree beer--check--The food, eh.... I ordered the Buffalo burger on wheat with the sweet potato fries, and the bf went for the Organic veggie pizza. Both were HIGHLY under seasoned. The burger that I ordered medium was still mooing--or whatever it is buffalo do. I liked the added cucumber on it though I had to pour lots of salt, and mustard to make it taste. The pizza, although crisp that zero flavor, of what you might find in an old folks home. I REALLY wanted to like this place, and will probably give it another shot, but for $35 for lunch, and not happy probably not in the near future. read more

Relaxed dining on the green with indoor and outdoor seating. We frequent the City Centre area often and hadn't tried Ruggles. After reading the menu, we decided to try it out for lunch. Everything sounds healthy and fresh. Had the spicy shrimp tacos. They were good and fresh. You get a lot of food. Also had the salmon salad. It was good. The sweet potato fries were very good (high point). Service is speedy and they are attentive. Self serve drinks (tea & soda). They have wine and some beer in bottles. Place to get great drinks is right across the green. It strikes me as a place to meet before/after shopping or to cool your heels during shopping. It isn't a place I would drive to just to eat there. However, City Centre is loaded with mid-level and high end restaurants that fit that bill. So Ruggles fills that nice relaxed, casual, "urban dining when you are shopping" need for the area. read more

For the steep price you pay here for what is supposed to be a higher end health cafe, the quality of food is just purely unappetizing!! Just left Ruggles; I've always been a fan of their food. Used to eat at the one in Saks all the time and the one in the montrose area....and ruggles bakery in rice village (used to work in the medical center it was a weekly spot). This is in alignment with the rest, good, fresh, food! I got a free dessert today just by signing up for an app that tracks money spent for rewards. The domino cake was divine, served with ice cream. After Happy Hour at Brio, my husband insisted we walk down to Ruggles & get the white chocolate bread pudding (even though it was his birthday). He has been raving about how they have the best bread pudding and OMG was he right! The perfectly lightly toasted bread was sinfully sweet with yummylicious pudding goodness! Love the outdoor seating for people watching and when they have events going on in the middle of City Centre. Don't let the long lines fool you, they move pretty quick! We decided to check this place out Sunday evening. Come hungry because the portions are Texas sized. We ended up skipping breakfast and lunch, and we still weren't able to finish everything. We started with a spinach dip appetizer. That alone would make a meal for two people. The fresh baked bread was really good that came with it. The veggie nut burger was flavorful, the bread was great, and cheese was awesome. The Veggie Sourdough Panini was not so great. The fresh herbs included cilantro which just doesn't go with the goat cheese. The sweet potato fries weren't that good, but the regular fries were. The desserts we selected, the Charlottes Webb and the organic Key Lime Pie were very good and they were huge. The service is difficult to describe. The restaurant tries to make this fusion of urban hip and a self service fast food joint. At times we were expecting the wait staff to do something and yet they ignored us. We assumed that if you want a refill you have to do it yourself and that if you want a take out box you have to handle that as well since those are next to the drinks. The only other issue was with the specials menu. The cheese & wine special is supposed to have a pairing of both by the chef. Everything was ala carte. Was this upscale "green" dining or fast food? On the green side, the take out containers are paper instead of styrofoam. The to go cups were plastic instead of the biodegradable corn based material that looks like plastic that Ted's Montana Grill uses. Overall the experience was ok, but they need to make some service changes and try to discover their identity. The location suggests a higher end level of service than we experienced. read more

I was so looking forward to eating my lunch on the patio and enjoying the rain. Unfortunately, my burger was awful! The bottom bun was soggy, the tomato was the but end with the stem, and worst of all after I took my first bite I realized that the meat was raw! I asked for medium and I got raw hamburger meat! I was so grossed out I asked for a refund. The manager gave me the refund and offered a gift card for next time but I declined the gift card. I will not be coming back here again! Ruggles green is one of my favorites. I went here to eat with some friends and the food was great. I ordered the margarheta/margarita pizza and I loved it! Memorial is a little too far from us so I try to go to the one in Kirby which works perfectly fine with me. I never get tired of this place and they have the best sweet potato fries ever! I definitely recommend the place. The only down side though, the location gets packed and it gets a bit hard to fine a decent and closer parking lot. Weekend is always busy so expect it if you plan on going here. read more

Incredibly disappointed with this Ruggles location. We ordered out and what was delivered was horrific! The quality of food was sub par, we ordered shrimp tacos and the lettuce was browning and bruised, they gave us the wrong sauces. The steak panini had the incorrect sauce, the meat was old- both of us took two bites and threw away the food since we were afraid we might get food poisoning. I have eaten at the Ruggles chain 3 times now. I have eaten at this specific location the 1st and 3rd time. Of the 2 locations this is definitely the worst. This most recent time I ordered the Blackened Shrimp Salad (my last salad from their other locations was AMAZING!). Sadly this was no where close to as good. The shrimp was dry and lacked flavor. The salad was fresh, but the star of the salad was supposed to be the shrimp and it did not meet my expectations. People around me were ordering desserts and they looked amazing! I will no next time at this location to just skip dinner and go straight to the sweets. read more
