I finally arrived in Houston and I was just craving some vegetables. I had only a butter croissant, an apple, and almonds for the day and it was already 7pm in Houston. So my gal pal takes me to Ruggles as it's also close by to Trader Joe's for some much needed groceries for the week stay. The parking situation is like how folks drive here...a mess. (Sorry to you Houston folks but I'm afraid for my life on the roads.) There's probably a good 7 tight diagonal spots and you need to back out of the spots to get out. The interior is a bit rustic chic. You order at the counter and take a numer with you to your table. There were way too many things on the menu that pulled at me, but I decided on the Kale Yeah! Lots of chopped kale with pumpkin seads, dried mango, fresh strawberries, red onions, and carrots. I unfortunately forgot to put the dressing on the side and well it was over dressed for my taste but the salad was delicious and felt really fresh. The salad dressing was way too salty and thus kind of killed the rest of the freshness of the salad. I also topped the salad with some grilled tofu which hit the spot. I love Ruggles Green. I'd eat here every single day if it were closer... Oh wait, it WAS closer to me when the Kirby/W. Alabama location was open. Sigh... But I digress. This is a solid place to get a meal after a workout or pick up take-out after work. I've had almost everything here, and even though I wouldn't give every single food item a full 5 stars, it all averages out to around 4.5 for me. And since I like to look at the glass half full, I'll round up to 5! I personally love the kale caesar, goat cheese salad, and blackened shrimp salad. The tacos are tasty, especially the shrimp and fish (they don't use tilapia - yay!). The corn chowder and French onion are bad-ass! The hempenadas, turkey and veggie wraps are regular items I cycle into my diet as well. All the burgers are good - turkey, veggie nut, buffalo... Yum! Oh and those sweet potato fries... Ermahgerd! They have several teas to choose from, including caffeine-free. The domino cake is the best dessert IMO, and I usually gravitate toward chocolate desserts last, so that's saying something! The honey-fried goat cheese arugula salad (arugula overload) and Oh Kale Yeah! (So much kale, so little time... to chew) are remarkably disappointing to me. I also tried the GF carrot cake to satisfy my often neglected sweet tooth. AMAZING! The cake didn't have any odd textures or aftertaste, which is rare for GF confections unfortunately. I haven't been here since they changed their name from rugglesgreen to bellagreen. I had their chicken salad sandwich and it was really good. Sweet potato fries were solid and really hot as well! Customer service was superb, came in on a Tuesday night around 930 and the gentleman that was helping me was great. I need to try their turkey burger. Bellagreen is a great place to grab a quick healthy lunch! They've never disappointed and have MANY options for vegetarians (part of the reason I love it so much!!) The parking at this location is a little tricky but there is a lot off of 11th St next to a church that is open for parking. The price point of Bellagreen is great! For fresh healthier options, you can't beat $9 for a veggie wrap and fries! (Water to drink) Each time I go with family or friends, everyone tries something different. Today, my friend got the chicken caesar wrap and said it was delish! I had the veggie wrap and it was very flavorful with lots of different veggies! Hard to pick a favorite! I really like Bellagreen because it has a huge menu with lots of options for just about any diet, and everything seems like it's customizable. Getting here is easy, but parking can be limited during peak dining times. I really like their soups and huge salads over the other menu items, but my favorite things are the minestrone soup, tortilla soup, spinach salad, and blackened shrimp salad. The minestrone soup is pretty light, served in a warm broth with lots of veggies, whereas the tortilla soup (which is vegetarian, yay!), has a pleasant kick that doesn't overwhelm you, but definitely leaves you with a little heat in your mouth after every bite. The spinach salad is filling, and you can customize the dressing if you are looking to make it vegetarian, while the blackened shrimp salad is both sweet and savory, a delicious mix of lots of tasty flavors. Be sure to specifically ask for the dressing on the side when you order if you prefer your salads served that way, as it's hit or miss whether or not it actually gets served that way. The manager and the staff were attentive and friendly and all masked up. The manager was watching out fir our needs but not hovering. When we left the establishment all the staff including those cooking and food prepping said thank you and be safe. I believed them and I will be back. As soon as I can. We did have coffees at 12:30 and I'm not sure if the coffee was a bitter flavor or it had been sitting a bit to long in the warmer. First time visiting last night and had an amazing experience! I showed up pretty late (9pm - they close at 10pm on weeknights) and was greeted by a warm, friendly face! I asked the girl, Grace, for recommendations since it was my first time. She was more than happy to help and even gave me a sample of the mango-ranch that I was iffy about... It was phenomenal by the way!! I ended up ordering the salmon salad with a side of sweet potato fries and got a side sauce of the mango ranch to dip my fries in per Grace's recommendation. It was absolutely delicious! I almost over-stayed my welcome and realized it was 10:05pm and apologized for not leaving as the restaurant was now closed. (I happened to notice another table of 4 in the building so I felt a little more at ease), but she assured me that it was fine and graciously thanked me on my way out. I have become a big fan of bellagreen and their very large selection of gluten free options. The Wagyu Bacon Burger is phenomenal. However, today I ordered the Curry Chicken Salad to go because I wanted something lighter, I love curry and it sounded amazing. I was VERY disappointed that the chicken was VERY VERY DRY, and not very seasoned (but I love curry so maybe I was expecting too much) they also gave the smallest container of dressing for such a big salad. Overall, the salad was too dry and too bland for my taste buds which I think could easily be improved with cooking and seasoning the chicken properly and giving a proportional amount of the delicious dressing. read more

Great lunch (again!). Came here with a friend for a light lunch. She enjoyed her lettuce wraps so much that she ate the whole thing (that usually doesn't happen). My fish tacos were delicious! So glad I went with the lightly fried option; grilled is also available. The house-made hot sauce was great to add a kick! My friend wanted dessert and went with the chocolate cake & ice cream. It's beautiful, moist and dense. Glad I had a bite! Again, she polished off the whole thing. It was just that good! I had visiting family in town last week and they headed to bellagreen one night because they love the reliably good pizza and salads. (My favorite is the Fig and Pig). This place works well for so many friends and family. Counter service is easy and service is usually fast. Point system can be a nice perk. Great to enjoy a glass of wine with the meal too. I'm dating myself, but I first discovered bellagreen's predecessor (Ruggles) more than two decades ago. Its various locations have come and gone, and it has evolved over the years, but I've always been a loyal customer, largely due to the warm baked goat cheese salad and, of course, the amazing desserts. (My favorites are the white chocolate bread pudding and the tres leches.) Still, it's been quite a while since I last dined at bellagreen/Ruggles. Today, a friend and I met at bellagreen for lunch, and it was DIVINE. I asked the staff's suggestion on which of three salads to order: my mainstay (warm baked goat cheese salad), the chicken curry salad, or the melon salad. Since the latter is seasonal, he suggested I try that. I was not disappointed! In fact, it was probably one of the best salads I've ever eaten--I will certainly be returning for more! I also got a slice of the pink velvet cake to go and, while it was no white chocolate bread pudding, I still quite enjoyed it. It's unlikely I will be visiting this location of bellagreen again. I visited this location recently and while the food was not bad, the service was incredibly substandard and left a bad taste in my mouth. When we walked in, we were not greeted by either of the employees behind the counter, in fact, neither of them even smiled. We were unsure which person would be helping us so we stood in a kind of purgatory until one of the employees turned around so we assumed the other gentleman behind the counter would be taking our orders. I ordered a special from the limited autumn menu and when I did, the employee acted as though he had never heard of the dish and made me very uncomfortable with his lack of hospitality. The same thing happened when the person I came with ordered and the employee acted as if we were almost bothering him. Not a smile in sight, we paid and weren't offered cups for our drinks, when we realized and asked, we were told "you just take the cups." The food came out quickly and was fine. Unfortunately, the autumn special I had was lacking in quantity. The salmon had a fine flavor and was cooked well, but the vegetables served with it were virtually nonexistent. The person I was with ordered the vegan burger with sweet potato fries - a true favorite from bellagreen- and it was slightly undercooked so it fell apart more than we would've liked. I usually enjoy the food at this place a lot more, but I made the mistake of ordering the green pizza. Nothing in the description on the menu mentions how freakin spicy hot this thing is! There are lightweights like me among you -- please put some warning there. If there had been some mention of it being fairly hot spice-wise, I might have looked at the list of options more carefully and asked to have the hot red pepper flakes removed. Who puts that much on a normal pizza before serving it to the customer?!?! Bellagreen does, apparently. It was not an enjoyable dinner. This is hands-down my most favorite restaurant in all of Houston! I love that this is the only certified organic restaurant in Texas. All of their ingredients are organic or local and they recycle their oils and rainwater as well as I can see from the outside. I love that they do that. I also love that they have bushels of fresh Rosemary bushes grown outside of the restaurant. They have a covered patio outside as well if you want to eat around nature. Their employees seem friendly and helpful. I have tried almost everything on the menu and loved almost everything. Their pizzas are cheesy and delicious. Their salads are absolutely amazing and fresh! I order their salads all the time and add grilled wild salmon on top. Their french fries are bomb.com! The crab cakes are so tasty and it has a yummy sauce all around it. The artichoke dip and hummus appetizers are a must. Also all their Iced Teas are fresh brewed as it seems and flavored. They also have a rewards program that gives you free items or free pizzas by the points that you earn when you come there so that is a nice Plus. I come here on a regular basis and love this restaurant and I'm sure anyone that comes here will love it too! The only Improvement that I would suggest for them is that they aren't consistent when it comes to giving the drinks that comes with the kids meal I would like to be able to order that and have my drink. Especially since that is not the only thing I order I usually order about one or two extra dishes on top of that. And even dessert! I get it it is for kids under 12 but I think they should look at the bigger picture and see that if a customer orders multiple orders and come there on a regular basis that giving a drink that comes with the kids meal should not be a big deal especially since I've had it all the time I think as of lately they have been stingy with it. Went here with some friends to grab some "healthy" food to eat after exercising and being all fit n stuff. They have a more extensive menu than I imagined and lots of options for everyone (including vegetarian and gluten-free!). I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it came out a lot larger and also smothered in cheese. It was very yummy and huge but not quite what I was expecting. My friends food looked just as delicious. I tried a bite of their special "the Mac n cheese" and it was WAY too cheesy and had the strangest texture. Honestly never thought that was even a possibility in the realm of Mac n cheese world but it was not good. The parking is limited and we had to find street parking a few blocks down but it is in such a cute area it was a fun lil walk. 3 stars because it wasn't anything super special, I would say it was mediocre and fit my expectations. read more

I love Ruggles (Bella) Green. One of the first places we ever ordered when we moved to Houston. And we order at least 2-3 times a month for pickup. It's the go-to place in the Heights if we can't figure out what else to get. Or I'm just craving a certain thing. Place is one of the few around that can do fresh, healthy food quickly. Most of the time they are right on. While I order out a lot from this place, portions are definitely better if you eat in the place. Salads especially are smaller and have much to be desired in presentation. I'm vegan and they are very comfortable with modifications or special orders, even by phone. Before I was vegan, I was obsessed with their pizza - I love it. Gluten free or not, get it. Specials are always good. Kale Caesar with an added salmon and extra capers was my go-to. As a vegan, grab the Lettuce Wraps without cheese. Lots that's good here for in or take out. Name change not a fan but whether this location or the one is City Centre, go for it. read more
