I ended up sitting downstairs at the bar for some drinks. The place seemed to be busy. The bartenders were all friendly and inviting. I tried one of there house cocktails and I didn't really Enjoy it so I went with an old fashioned. I had a dozen oysters and I loved the fact they had a selections of different ones. They were all very fresh served with horseradish, mignonete and cocktail sauce. I also got the fish dip, they said they make it daily. I absolutely love BettleCat. I've been many times my birthday and a cousins date (theres plenty of places for pics) being extra special visits, making it my favorite in Georgia. Their oysters are usually my go to and everything else is just extras . The service never disappoints as I usually find a seat without waiting too long or having a reservation but make one that's best. The restaurant has an old luxury ship theme kinda vibe it's very decadent so I'd say dress nice. No matter how many times I have already been I can always look forward to going back. read more

Cute restaurant, but the food and the kitchen time left A LOT to be desired. I went to Beetlecat for the first time to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were an average sized party of 4, so not a large table. Donuts are part of their "thing" so we each ordered a donut as an appetizer. I was expecting a delicious donut that melts in your mouth and I received a subpar donut that definitely wasn't worth $5. For my meal, I chose the Lobster roll. It was $44 and came with no side. The lobster wasn't cooked long enough and it was served on a toasted hamburger bun, not a roll. The bun was way too soft for the lobster. There was no contrast between the meat and the bread. I ordered fries as well. Apparently they use to have a yummy waffle fry, but now they mash the potatoes to then form them into a fry shape and then fry them. Sooooooo wrong. I love fries and this was a complete let down. I had great company, but horrible food. read more

We got a reservation for Beetlecat on a Saturday so we could try the Donut Brunch. Now, I am not a donut-lover (I know, it's a character flaw); however my husband is a donut connoisseur. We started with a couple drinks - both were delicious. The Hair of the Salty dog is super fresh! We also got a donut to start (by we I mean my husband - I had one bite lol). According to him it was good, not mind blowing. There was a great balance of bacon and maple. For the mains, my husband got the Captain's Favorite (a burger with a donut for buns and a fried egg). I had a bite and it was very good. VERY sweet (as expected) but really delicious. I got the Fried Chicken Sammie, and because I was in a brunchy mood, I got two poached eggs on the side to make Fried Chicken Benedict. It was DELICIOUS! I highly recommend the extra $5 to add the egg. Without it, it was a simple chicken sandwich. Good breading and tasty but not outstanding. With the eggs, it was amazing. It almost tasted like an Asian infused funnel cake and it was our favorite thing. The spicy lobster knuckles were awesome but be prepared to make a mess and have sticky hands. I came back to Beetlecat to check out their brunch and it was SO FREAKING DELICIOUS!! Beetlecat really excels in every way! My table ordered a few of the donuts which were so fresh and tasty. We loved the variety of flavors and got the ODB as well as the cinnamon roll. I ordered the All In spicy chicken sandwich which is HUMONGOUS! Definitely can split or take home leftovers! Doughnut brunch at BeetleCat was so much fun and everything tasted amazing!!! We got here because our original restaurant could not accommodate us after waiting almost two hours. We were greeted by Lamont who was so cool and kind. Our server Carina took such good care of us. Their doughnut brunch on Saturdays and Sundays did not disappoint. The menu is not big for brunch but it is packed full of goodness. We were given some kale salads and doughnuts to sample. They were so good!!! I loved all of the doughnuts but the Atlantic was my favorite. I got the chicken sandwich in between two doughnuts (can't recall the name of the sandwich) and a side of fries. I chose the Barry Palmer to drink and loved it. It was refreshing and filling. The spicy sandwich was perfectly contrasted by the sweet doughnuts and the perfectly seasoned egg. I would definitely come back here again for another meal. The decor was super cute and reminded me of being on a boat. I actually was reminded of Gilligan's Island. I'm telling my age with that one. Went here based on a local recommendation. This entire area is very hip and cool. Patios all around at many of the restaurants. The staff is fabulous and told us about what a beetlecat was (I had no idea) and thus the inside decode with ship sails and restaurant design. The service was fantastic. I have been wanting to eat at BeetleCat for so long, and we finally had brunch this weekend with friends to celebrate birthdays. It was definitely worth the wait! They recommend that you start with a donut as an appetizer, and then order from the entrées for your main meal. All of the donuts looked amazing! It was so hard to decide, but my husband and I shared a key lime donut, and my friend and her husband shared the apple one. It was absolutely delicious. The biggest reason I have wanted to visit is to have their lobster roll because it's award-winning, and I had to splurge and order that for my birthday! I always get nervous to order lobster rolls around here because they are always $40~ and often times they are small or don't really have a lot of lobster on them. I love beetlecat, I've been going here for almost 2 years and everything I've ever eaten here has been exceptional, so it really breaks my heart to say this but the last two times I've been going to Beetlecat for their donut brunch the donuts just ... have not been up to par. They must have changed their recipe or baking procedure because the difference is just so apparent. The first time this happened a few weeks ago i told myself id have to come back and see if it was just a one time thing but sadly, even today my donut was not as good as it used to be. It lacked the airiness and fell flat of the Beetlecat donuts I love and remember. Really well executed, the tequila sunrise and strawberry shortcake donut to me were both ehh. The Plain Jane donut however left me speechless. The donuts at BettleCat are thicker then a Harry Potter book, and oddly enough it works. They're huge and very doughy. Excellent choice! Kale salad - big enough to split four ways Lobster roll with waffle fries ($40). Meaty roll, average fries (a little on the soft side) Shrimp and rice (good, but very spicy. I give it a 6.5 on a scale of 1-10) It took FOREVER for anyone to offer us water and we arrived before the dinner rush (4 o'clock) on a Saturday. Our waitress was apologetic, but she never really salvaged the experience with her service. We expected more help with course staging and beverage (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) refills. We asked for our salad without cheese, but it came with it anyway. We didn't send back...just made do. We noticed another table complaining about service delays, so ours wasn't an isolated experience. Again, it took FOREVER to flag our waitress for both the check and payment. Disappointing. If you still want to try it, parking is easy enough with a nearby parking garage. There are no complimentary hours; expect to pay less than $10 for the first few hours. The lobster knuckles were the star of the show for appetizers, but they only give you a small portion. Redfish was underwhelming and did not include a side. We had the intention of making it to Oyster happy hour and we just barely missed it so we will definitely need to try it because the prices are great. Either way, we sat down inside for our reservation and it was gorgeous! Our waitress Julianna was awesome! To start, we ordered the Singapore sling Karafe for the 4 of us to share and we each got 2 drinks so great deal! We then ordered and we got 12 oysters of different kinds recommended by the waitress and I am not going to lie those were the best oysters I have ever had in Georgia. WOW!!!! For the main, we got the marqueca stew, chowda, fish dip, lobster roll and the fry bread. Everything was amazing. The lobster roll was also one of the best ones I have had in Georgia with big chunks of lobster and everything was so fresh and delicious. The mahi was cooked well with being nice and crispy on the edges but juicy and tender on the inside. I enjoyed the texture and flavor of it very much but did not like the salsa sauce it was plated with. The sauce it laid on tasted much like Mexican mole and I don't like that. If you like mole then this is the dish for you. The pickled tomatoes that it came with were so yummy and a good complimentary flavor to the mole-tasting sauce on. As Atlanta starts to morph into "Fryville", the chef and businessman Ford Fry has now established a fairly solid grasp over the city's restaurant scene. BeetleCat is one of the older establishments, having been open here for nine years. Blue tones, fun seafood oriented art, cushions that are mostly torn up. The establishment has seen the wear and tear that comes with having been opened for 9 years and it certainly needs some degree of renovation. When saying that cushions are torn up, the seat had a large tear of 10+ inches with insides sticking out. But, people don't come here to stare at the seats, so it's more relevant to discuss the things that fill up the belly. Wine selection is sufficient and priced at a reasonable average 2x upcharge from retail. With some places in the city starting to throw NYC level margins, it is pleasant to see a sense of balance here alongside interesting high quality bottles. Ordering the lobster roll, it was certainly not a traditional preparation, being served on a brioche style hamburger bun. The issue is that the lobster served is extremely chewy and largely flavorless, thus indicating overcooking, potential lack of freshness and giving in to a temptation to cover it up with butter to mask the imperfections. It is sadly a below average lobster roll. The big chunks of lobster make it hard to eat through and the hamburger bun also makes it uncomfortable to grab as everything falls out. Some things are just better left to original preparations and the lobster here was an attempt to screw around with something that did not need to be modified. Oyster selection is excellent and they are wonderfully fresh. Fry bread is a dessert like preparation that is rather delicious, but mostly because of its drenching in honey butter. The kale salad is mediocre mainly due to an unbalanced dressing. Where the restaurant redeemed itself was spectacular service. Attentive, kind and welcoming. At the end of the day however, BeetleCat is a tough place to recommend. read more

I went for oyster happy hour. The oyster selection for happy hour changes daily and it's $1.50 for an oyster. We ordered 24 oysters and they were really good. Some varieties are much better (and better value) than orders. I also ordered mussels (on the appetizer menu) and fries for my main meal. It was ALOT. The oysters also came with toast. I was expecting the sauce or the oysters to have more spice (like chili flakes) but it was more on the creamy side. The other entree menu items were a little pricey which is why I decided to go with the mussels and fries.
