Our family LOVES Becks Prime. Great hamburgers, great chicken sandwiches, AWESOME French fries. Delicious shakes and malts! We go here to this Dairy Ashford location at least once a month. Why only 4 stars and not 5? Well, last night, our family of 7 of us went there. We ordered over $100 of food. Our order was ready, and when we got back to the table (outside), we saw they did not give us an order of French fries for which we paid. So, I took the receipt and went back in to get the fries. The manager (or so I think it was) told me that, for the chicken sandwich, we did not order fries. (True). I told him I thought we were still missing fries for one of the burgers, but that I would check. I checked, came back with both of the single items that had no fries, and I told him that one of those was missing fries. He told me that the fries for the burger were on the side separate. At that point, I am getting a bit frustrated. I'm not blind. I looked and did not see any fries. So, I asked him to come outside with me to our table to look with me. He did. (By the way, this was my SECOND trip inside to request the fries. This should not have happened.) He came outside and was like, "oh, okay." He said he would get them and bring them out. (Well, thank you, sir, for that!) He came back with them and was like, "here you go." He was not rude. But, really? Not even an apology??? Wow. All this over a freaking small basket of fries. And we had bought over $100 of food. Wow. I will say that, when we entered the restaurant, one of my kids forgot a mask and was turning around to go back to the car to get one when one of the employees was like, "I've got one for you." He very nicely offered a mask. Maybe that employee needs to be promoted to manager, and that manager needs to be re-trained. :\ read more

Really good food and mostly worth the money but the truffle fries tasted like they had literally no truffle oil on them, I wouldn't have been able to guess they were truffle fries. Everything still tasted good though. read more

We ordered a salad and got home to discover there was no dressing. When we called to complain, instead of apologizing and asking the receipt number, the manager was immediately defensive and accusatory. Such a bad experience! I've been many times over the years to the two westside houston locations and the burgers and fires are always great. The help is always nice, they are more mature and not teeny boppers. Always clean and nice. Now, the prices are a bit steep, 9 bucks and up per burger ala carte, but the burgers are thick, prime meat cuts, apparently not frozen and always juicy tasty and cooked like I like with a little pink left - medium. Fries are delicious and hot. I think its worth the price if you really want to enjoy a burger. I took off a star only for the price. Now I'm wondering if the steaks are worth it? read more

Everything I have ever had is excellent. Good service, clean, quiet, nice outdoor seating, has a drive thru (that I've never used). Normally I get a side of veggies and a side of rice. It's expensive at $6.25 for a side of veggies, but is worth it because they taste great. Becks Prime doesn't bath them in salt/fat like most places do, their vegetables are done so that the actual vegetable flavor is strong in a satisfying way, with just the right texture. The rice is wild with some mushrooms and a few grated pieces of carrot, which also tastes great. Both are very nutritious options for those who are not fans of meat. The meat items always look like they're cooked perfect with a lot of flavor. Becks Prime knows how to treat food. read more

This is what a cheeseburger should taste like. Imagine a prime steakhouse for burgers and you get Beck's Prime. Friendly counter service and quickly prepared accurate orders are the start. The chips, queso, and salsa are Mexican restaurant quality. The fries are perfectly crisp, requiring neither salt, pepper, nor ketchup. And they taste like potatoes. The burger? Sublime. A toasted egg bun and perfectly grilled ground beef. Yes, you can taste the beef. About the perfect thickness of meat too. I ended up with the hickory burger and added grilled mushrooms and bacon. The hickory sauce reminded me of the old Rojo Burger from Chili's of days gone by. Not BBQ sauce -- hickory sauce. The grilled mushrooms were steakhouse quality. The bacon? Everything goes better with bacon -- and Beck's Prime knows how to make bacon -- CRISPY. I can, without a doubt, say that this is the finest quick service burger I've ever had -- and quite possibly the best burger in my memory. I don't know if I'd make the trip from Austin just for a Beck's Prime burger, but it gives me one more reason to go to Houston. Fair warning. Utterly disappointing experience. When I go to Beck's I expect one of their "famous award-winning burgers" but left this location feeling $28 poorer and absolutely unsatisfied. First of all, lunch time here is a madhouse. Wait in line wasn't long (5 min) however, the whole restaurant was packed with people and was stuffy. The cashier who took my order was very rude and did not listen attentively to me when I requested two NO-bun hamburgers, wrapped in lettuce. She was huffing and puffing about my apparent "high maintenance order" which took her a good minute just to type in and didn't bother to thank me. I (by some miracle) found an empty table and waited with the buzzer I was given. After about 10 minutes of waiting the buzzer went off and I went to get my order only to discover that SURPRISE-SURPRISE it was incorrect. The burgers had no bun, but were NOT wrapped in lettuce. I then waited ANOTHER 10 minutes for the food, which to me was ridiculous. Once the correct food came, my burger was lack-luster in taste, and looked like it was a pre-formed patty. The fries (both the sweet potato and regular) were NOT hot and fresh and frankly were bland. I also noticed that they really water down the soft drinks here with the carbonated water to syrup ratio. Maybe they're trying to save on cost? Maybe it's because I know how to make a real juicy, medium-cooked, hand-formed patty for $3 but aside from that fact I've had way better burgers at other Beck's locations. The Beck's off 1960 and also the one off of Westheimer are both "OK" in my book, but this location was absolutely disappointing in service, quality and taste of food. Wish Beck's Prime had a location in Austin. The burgers are fresh and delish with a lot of variety. For dieters, the grilled chicken and veggies are amazingly good and full of flava. This location always seems cleaned and well-staffed. The foods comes out hot and cooked to order. And I'm a glutton for Beck's fries and parmesan toast. The only negative I can report is the price is high (generally running $15 for a burger/fries/drink meal). But the quality is WAY above most other burger joints. So there. read more

This Becks is a great place to go for lunch with the work gang. Unless it's raining, sit outside under the big oak and enjoy an unhurried and calm meal. This location is much nicer than their Kirby location which has received more reviews in Yelp. I have a surprise for you: the best thing at Becks isn't a hamburger. It's not their veggie burger either. Their swordfish sandwich is what you want to get, folks. It knocked my socks off the first time I tried it, and I've ordered it every time I've returned. I don't think hamburger lovers should hesitate to try this place. My friends and family love Becks burgers. For myself, when I eat beef, I want it prime, rare and definitely not ground up. I've not sampled Becks fillet, strip or t-bone. It just doesn't seem right to order something like that at a burger joint (even if it is up-scale). You will pay more at Becks, but for that swordfish sandwich, it's worth every penny. ---------- March 2008 Update: Due to mercury concerns, the swordfish sandwich was removed from the menu!! :( There is an excellent Ahi Tuna sandwich with feta cheese that has replaced it! :) Their burgers deserve a few more words. First of all, they're big: 1/2 lb of choice ground chuck in a bun that manages to keep everything together. If ordered medium rare, they possess that essence of ooziness that's essential to be considered amongst the upper echelons of burgerdom. I recently enjoyed their California Burger which includes Swiss cheese and guacamole. It just seemed a bit too civilized for me, however. I was expecting double the puddle of grease in my basket (which you're guaranteed to encounter at Fuddruckers or Sam's Deli Diner) and errant bits of guac all over the place. Instead, the table remained altogether too tidy. On top of that, my bill for the burger and an order of Parmesan crisps (along with free water) came to a very hefty $12.34. That's a bit much. This is upscale overpriced fast food but I absolutely love it. If you want to throw away 15-20 bucks on burgers and fries then you found your place. I love the veggie burger with sweet potato fry combination. I usually get blue cheese and grilled onions and my total is about 17 buckaroos. I love their salads. They are made with fresh ingredients. I do not eat meat so I cant tell you about the meat options. The staff are usually friendly and I have never been disappointed with my order at this location. read more

I was looking for a good burger today with some avocado and knew that Becks Prime would have it. I didn't mind so much paying the $12.02 for a burger and some tea. After going through the drive through, ordering a medium well burger. Getting home I found that I had a pink in the middle burger that had processed guacamole rather than sliced avocado as was listed on their menu. The burger doesn't even taste that well but it is food so I am going to eat it and note to not return. read more

Ok, a hamburger is ground meat cooked however way, on a bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle, or whatever combination there of (in Texas, maybe some jalapenos). Just like a martini is made with gin and vermouth. Anything else is something else but it's not a martini and it's not a hamburger. This place makes damned good hamburgers. The meat seems to be 80/20, so if you're under coronary care, go someplace else. And they are not afraid to leave a good portion of pink in the middle.So if this scares you, go someplace else. But otherwise, expect a flavorful, juicy hamburger. The meat melts as you bite it, and it does have a lot of what I look for, "pop". The toppings were fresh and good. I really enjoyed the pickles but they seemed to be interlaced so that when you bit into one, they all came out. And I personally would have enjoyed a little more mustard (I'll ask next time). The bun was a bun. My take on buns is just that, although I have had hamburgers with offensive buns. This one certainly wasn't. And the fries were fresh cut, homemade. Not made as you see on Food Network, blanched then refried. Kinda limp but still good. All in all, a very good hamburg. Otherwise, you'd have to come to my house for a 1/2# of 80/20 Angus Chuck, cooked somewhere between medium rare and medium on a grill over B&B Lump Charcoal. I'm still not sure what all the hype is about. I've been to Becks Prime a handful of times now, and I've never been wowed by any of the burgers I've eaten. The first time I went to Becks Prime, I ordered a California Burger. This thing was so overloaded with avocado and messy, that it wasn't even an enjoyable experience. The bacon cheeseburger is okay at best. The bacon is nice and crispy and the lettuce and tomatoes are fresh, but the meat comes out a little dry at times. I ordered some of their new sweet potato fries, and let me tell you, they are not worth it at $3.55 for a SIDE. Also, this location has a rather odd parking lot. There's plenty of parking hidden in the back though. Consensus: Overpriced for okay burgers. Carry on. read more
