We love Becco and try to come every time we are in the city. The Sinfonia di Paste is always so fun and I love trying new pasta creations every time we visit! The staff always outdoes themselves with the service by helping select wine and making menu accommodations. This trip however was a little different. I recently had surgery on my ankle and I am currently unable to put any weight on it. For that reason, I am traveling in a wheelchair. Every single person went above and beyond in helping me! One young gentleman even helped with my wheelchair. The restaurant was extremely accessible and inclusive and everyone was so kind. We will definitely be back again! read more

Becco's location is certainly convenient, especially for anyone attending a Broadway show or exploring Midtown. Unfortunately, that's where the positives mostly ended for us. Our waiter seemed annoyed, rushed and sometimes curt throughout the meal, making the experience feel hurried rather than hospitable. The young lady who intermittently served us was great! The fried calamari were extremely overcooked--tough, dry, and oddly reminiscent of frozen onion rings from a supermarket bag. The Porterhouse D'Agnello (lamb chops) was super rubbery, very fatty and minimally seasoned. In fact, most of the dishes we ordered, with the exception of the veal piccata special, lacked flavor and depth. Given the quality of the food, and service, Becco simply wasn't worth the price. Visited 112/06/2024 My SIL likes Becco so we ended up here during our long weekend in NYC. I'm sorry, but there are restaurants in NJ that will "blow this place out of the water! " First of all, could they jam a few more tables in the place? This has to be one of the most tightly packed restaurants I've ever been in. It was busy (on a Sunday night) so just to get to our table we had to 'excuse ourselves" and squeeze around people/chairs all the way to our table as well as navigating around the "thousands" of waiters milling around. Anyway... I was in the mood for some pasta... but the only pasta dish was their special... a trio of pastas, one was ziti/rigatoni with tomato sauce (bland) a mushroom/prosciutto tagliatelle that was pretty good and a pumpkin ravioli. Who ever thought that pumpkin mush in any pasta dish is a good idea!? Ugh! Just awful! I know there are some who would love it, but no one on our table offered to have a few off my plate. I think there was one other pasta dish, maybe two, but that was it. This is supposed to be an Italian restaurant and it has only a small handful of pasta dishes?? Again... come to Jersey if you want good pasta and lots of choices! Our server (forgot his name) was very good... friendly and funny, so a few points there. We were looking forward to this restaurant due to the connection with Lidia Bastianich, but unfortunately we were left very disappointed. Off the bat there seemed to be some frustration from our server Hector who didn't seem happy to answer our questions of how their menu worked. We didn't want to order kids entrees, we wanted them to eat from the adult selections. When we asked about wine recommendations, there was a snooty retort about "well how much do you want to spend?" We wanted to know what would pair well with our meal choice, not what was going to be most budget friendly. Throughout the evening, Hector seemed insistent on rushing us through the meal as quickly as possible, hastily pouring the remaining wine into one person's glass instead of splitting it amongst the drinkers, leaving the check without saying a word. Aside from our displeasure with Hector, the pasta for the "all you can eat" was overcooked and more of a quantity over quality thing, on par with an Olive Garden experience. Disappointing for the price. While serving said pasta, the servers also splattered sauce on some of our party member's clothes; quite unprofessional. Recently had dinner with the family. We arrived about 30 minutes earlier than our reservation but only had to wait about 15 minutes so that was great. The guy working the door and taking coats was pleasant. The mussels, meatballs, and shrimp appetizers were very good. Kids enjoyed the chicken parm and the wife enjoyed the lemon chicken dish. Portions were huge. I had the salmon. The fish was good but the portion was weak. The brussel sprouts were terrible...pile of mush. I suggest substituting those for spinach or another vegetable. The cookie platter was great, we ordered two of those. The apple strudel was a bust...really disappointing. The service was great, no complaints at all. We were seated in good spot that's important as it can get loud pre theater Fri night. I have never had words with a waiter in my life especially there. Of three pasta specials one was spaghetti with clam sauce, I asked if they could please hold the clams as I have a shellfish allergy, I will take the pasta with oil and some garlic. I was shocked that's total crap of course they can, it's the same pre cooked pasta just toss it in oil with a piece of garlic I can't tell you how many times I have eaten there. He must have been tired my friend intervened as I said I can't believe I'm arguing with our waiter. I was close to ask for the manager but really didn't want to start not here. We settled on the pasta with BUTTER ( not oil are they crazy) and cheese. What do they bring me? CLAMS of course. It's just the service was very off none of the old ppl there, a new staff and the quality of my food was sub par. We flew from California to eat here prior to boarding a cruise ship. They called to confirm our reservation and we talked about our trip and they asked if we would mind sitting upstairs. I said no problem. We arrived 15 minutes early and they asked if we were going to an 8:00 play, we said no. Big mistake, they started sitting people prior to us and made us wait. Then they sat us at the worst table possible on the first floor in the back room next to the waiter stand. The noise from the staff cleaning dishes and throwing food away was horrible. Our waiter Antonio acted like he was doing us a favor and that we were an inconvenience to him. The food was awesome but they ran out of meatballs at 7:00, who does that, but Antonio's attitude and the location of the wobbly table offset the evening. I spoke the manager as we left and he sort of blew me off saying it was my problem for not communicating earlier. I told him maybe his staff should have read the comments in the computer before they sat us. Oh well, either way with the amount of great restaurants in the area we won't go hungry. read more

Here with some friends for an early dinner after seeing Tommy at a matinee performance. We had a reservation 630pm on a Wednesday. Plenty of theatre goers here for their pre-show meal we were not in any rush. Service was excellent and there are multiple servers, busboys attending. The hostess sat us promptly and the Maitre d showed up from time to time checking on us. The place is traditional NY Italian with a bar and 12 tables then a larger seating area around back and another bar. We were seated out front. There are also a few tables Al fresco. We ordered a bottle of Ripasso from the Veneto. Excellent. We noted that the entire wine list, which was quite extensive, had numerous offerings at $40 a bottle - a great deal. For food I got Osso Buco, my favorite here, and started with the beef carpaccio. The beef carpaccio here is outstanding in quality and presentation. It must be cut thin so that if held up you can see light. Sprinkled with Parmesan and arugula. Wonderful. The Osso Buco if always prepared perfectly, and a small utensil is provided for scooping the marrow from the bone. Also a beautiful presentation. My wife got a bolognese lasagna. Which was a large brick of food she could only eat one-third. We are having the leftover for dinner tomorrow. Dessert was a couple of espressos and Afogado. A very nice meal. It's probably been a DECADE since I was last here and I wanted to go back to try their daily pasta offering ($34.95). I based my visit solely on what they were offering which was ravioli with eggplant, penne with beef and onions, and tagliolini with pesto and asparagus. I couldn't tell you anything else about the menu; I never opened it. I started with the antipasto instead of the Caesar Salad. It was a mix of vegetables and salmon and octopus. The salmon was oddly prepared; it seemed to have a breading on it. Then came the unlimited pasta! Our favorite was the penne. The ravioli was good; it really didn't have any eggplant with it. I barely finished the first serving of the pesto and opted for a bit more of the penne. Definitely come with an appetite if you really want to take advantage of an unlimited amount. The staff did check on us throughout the meal to see if we wanted more of anything. They didn't immediately come back but that's because the pasta was likely being made! We noticed that the table next of us was served tagliatelle with the pesto instead of the tagliolini. It's a fairly large restaurant - two sides, two floors. We sat upstairs. We went to the theatre with another couple. I'm not a big Sunday guy to start with. We were seated upstairs in the back which I was apprehensive about, since many times there was lacking service. In any event I was wrong the service was fine. This place is know for its 3 pasta unlimited amount entre that come with either a Caesar salad or antipasta appetizer. It's another 2 if you want a salad mista. My wife got the salmon with Brussels sprouts and she was happy with it. The pasta was below average. Mezzi Rigatoni- pasta way overcooked, sauce was below Rafi Fettuccine Alla Bolognese - again overcooked pasta and quite frankly tasted like airplane quality Artichoke Ravioli was swimming in butter I guess you for 29.99 I shouldn't expect a better quality. I can't speak highly enough about this place. We were lucky to get in on a crowded Saturday evening for my sister's 60th birthday. We had the pasta trio, the stuffed cubanelles and chicken parmesan at our table. The pumpkin ravioli with the cocoa pasta was so unusual, but so delicious. I don't think I would ever order that on its own, but as part of the pasta trio, it was just enough. Our server and the supporting staff were phenomenal. We showed up early for a reservation at 5pm and were escorted upstairs to the other dining area after a brief wait at the bar. The place was almost entirely empty but they decided to sit us in a random blind spot area next to a random piece of old dusty furniture and a visibly dusty ledge. No, seriously, my eye kept gravitating to the dusty ledge hovering just inches from my plate. Our waiter came over and we got our waters and bread box. The bread was incredibly salty this time around and I found myself unable to enjoy it. We started with the seasonal spritz which was a glorified aperol spritz that they just charge a fancy price for. We opted for the "symphony of pasta" as well. Soon after we ordered, they sat a table of 4 next to us. Unfortunately the close quarters made it so that the pasta servers couldn't efficiently reach us. This meant that after a few rounds of their belly bomber gnocchi our "unlimited" pasta became quite limited because unless I wanted to pretend I was at Citi Field yelling for the peanuts guy, I wasn't getting anymore pasta here. Our plates were cleared and after one port wine for dessert, we were on our way. This was our favorite meal during our 3 nights in NYC at Christmas. We ate here after seeing a matinee. We walked in and the place was PACKED. There was no where to stand and wait and the tables are really close together, which is why I am giving 4 stars. I feel bad for the tables by the hostess stand because they have someone standing right at their table probably the entire meal... I think they have such a great concept for food- they are known for their 3 pasta special which comes with a caesar salad (a bit over dressed but ok). They have servers bringing each of the 3 pastas out and you can have as many as you would like. I ordered that as my meal. I loved 2/3 and liked the 3rd on the night we were there. My daughter went with Chicken Parm, which does not come with pasta. The piece of chicken is the entire plate- she ate about 1/3 of it (which is a bit of a waste of food). She'd have preferred half the chicken and a small side of pasta with it, but it did not come with any pasta. Not sure if it was because it had been sitting, but the chicken was a little tough and breading soggy- I would rate that dish a 3/5. We would have loved dessert but we were so stuffed and we had been out since before 9AM and we were just ready to go back to the hotel. They are known for their unlimited 3 pasta table-side service, however we opted for individually entrees instead. All mains come with a Caesar salad, however we chose to pay an extra $2 per person for the mixed greens salad (well worth it). The short ribs were extremely moist, and fell right off the bone! However, I did not care for the spaetzle that came on the side. The lemon chicken was delicious, and the capers were the largest I have ever seen! The chicken came pre-sliced which I thought was an interesting choice.
