But alas, there were no openings the for my Columbus Day vacation, and I returned without a haircut that it was getting so painfully obvious I needed. So I decided to find a decent, cheap haircut place just for this one time, to hold me over until I could get it cut at home again. After doing some Yelping, I gave Beautiful Cuts a try. No qualms about appointment times, they got me one when I needed it. And when I showed up 15 minutes early, they confirmed it was me, and had me get in the chair no sooner than a minute after I walked in the door. I explained what I wanted to Linda, and in all the places that ever cut my hair on the vague description I gave them, Linda was the first with the good sense to use a razor-laden comb to cut it, which gave me exactly the look I was going for. Other customers walked in, sat down in chairs, and chatted with the stylists like catching up with a good friend. So what was once going to turn into a one-time thing is now probably going to become a habit. I've been here a couple times and always had good experiences. Today I had my haircut with Judy, she was very thorough and cut my hair for about 45 minutes. I'm not used to this kind of treatment because I usually go to a barber. She shampooed and conditioned my hair afterwards and was very attentive. I've also had my hair cut by Biddy, she has always given me a great haircut. I recommend them both. There are a handful of stylists there and they all have different costs for haircuts. For men's hair Judy's cost was 24 and Biddys was 30, both not including tip. Will be back in the future read more

I came in and the woman on a ladder by the door said they were booked for walk ins completely that day (there were 3 people in the waiting area and you can't "book" a walk in ahead of time so I'm not sure what she meant) and said to come back Tuesday? After today's experience I am definitely not going back here. I came in with a picture of a super-short pixie cut and the stylist, (Bitty? Betty?) looked at for a while, asked a few questions, and started cutting. She finished the back of my head, then told me she didn't know how to do the front. WTF??? Let me say that again for emphasis- she got halfway through before telling me should couldn't give me the cut I asked for. I would understand if I asked for a haircut and didn't like it, or if I didn't give her much guidance and then didn't like the result. BUT SHE CUT HALF MY HAIR OFF BEFORE TELLING ME SHE COULDN'T DO THE CUT I WANTED. At that point my hair was already super short, and none of the other haircuts I'd considered would work, so I just let her finish. It turned out decent- not really what I was going for, but I can definitely live with it. I've gotten some good haircuts here, from both Annie and Judy, and would probably come back here if I knew I'd get one of them as a stylist. Like other people have said, this is a really friendly, family kind of place, but I can't forgive them for this. It's okay for a stylist not to know how to do a certain cut, but there's no excuse for starting a haircut without knowing how to finish it. read more

For men's haircuts, Beautiful Cuts cannot be beat. It's no surprise that it's as popular as it is in the neighborhood. I've gone here at least 20 times and always been satisfied. The haircuts are great and cost about $15 (there might be a small discount for students.) I've spent more than twice as much on worse haircuts at other places. If you're concerned about a language barrier, ask for Judy (the owner) - she speaks English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and like 10 other forms of Chinese. She's also pretty funny (and loud.) You can call for an appointment or just walk in at any time. I've seen men of all ethnicities getting haircuts here, though most female customers I've seen were Asian. Not sure if this is due to styles, or the language issue. As mentioned above, Judy speaks English, Annie seems to mainly speak Chinese, and there's a younger Korean woman working also. For the same price as a cheap barber shop, you'll get a great haircut here. If I could give 6 stars, I would. read more

5 months ago, I had an unhappy experience with my hair cut from a place in revere, ma. I have no choice but to patiently let it grow. My hair is very thin, still short up to my shoulders, and usually I can't do much to my hair since I don't have that much hair on my scalp. However, I had Hana as my hair stylist. She made me feel less embarrassed by having a very thin hair. She even made my hair look ten times better even though it's already short as it is. She understands what I want, gives an advice on what I should or shouldn't do to my hair, have good sense of humor, and very friendly. She is now my favorite hair stylist and I guarantee that I'll see her again on the month of September before my wedding. Almost forgot to mention that the place at Beautiful Cuts have a very positive vibe. The staffs are friendly and nice. Their shampoo and conditioner smells amazingly good. I don't care about ambiance, and I don't have the hair for a designer haircut. I care about one thing in a hair salon: how much money I put in, and how professional I look afterwards. I went here for a clean haircut, and walked out with a simple, sharp men's haircut. I was served immediately by a friendly staff that, despite difficulty speaking and understanding English, anticipated and adjusted to what I wanted via hand gestures and keywords. I arrived in jeans and a t-shirt and initially got sort of a clean hipster wild kid look. Then I made the hand symbol for "shorter" and said the word "interview," and she transformed me into something more respectable, with perfectionist finishing touches. While my haircut is not a $65 opus, it is what it is, and, for my particular hair, I probably look just as ready for business as I would if I had gone to a designer salon and spent two or three times the $14 + $2 tip I did here. They gave me a "buy eight, get the ninth free" value card, and I have to say, now that I know how to get something I like here, I'll probably fill up the card. I went to beautiful cuts yesterday and received a cut by Judy. She was extremely nice and meticulous about cutting and blowdrying my hair but my haircut is not great... I'm giving her 3 stars because I recognize it may have been a misunderstanding... and also because she was very sweet. I went in for a very simple haircut - a 3-inch trim. I have very straight and thick Asian hair. Judy asked if I wanted a U shaped cut. I said no, I wanted my haircut to be straight/all the same length. She later asked if I wanted the front shorter, and I said no because I wanted my hair to be the same length. Near the end of the cut, she asked if I wanted my hair thinned out but I said no. (I've had horrible experiences where hair stylists thin out my hair and make it look like a mullet so I've stopped getting my hair thinned.) What I was flabbergasted by was that Judy simply cut my hair horizontally in a straight line. Something my husband could have done at home in the kitchen. She didn't texturize the bottom of my hair at all. The end of my hair looks like someone cut it straight with an ax. I don't know if Judy misunderstood because I said I wanted my hair to be the same length but that was in context to a U shape or having layers in the front. In all the years I've gone to a hair salon, I've never received a hair cut where the person simply cut it horizontally. They've always cut the bottom vertically to give it texture and not have it a blunt cut. I've never had to say anything because I thought that was just the way hair stylists cut hair. I kept waiting to see if Judy would texturize. I figured she wanted the hair the same length before providing some texture. But it never happened. By the end of the cut, I had to leave to pick up my son, and I wasn't even sure if I could trust Judy to texturize properly. Overall, it was not worth $45. Anyone can cut hair horizontally straight. read more

I feel really sad about this. I recently moved to the area and was so happy to find an asian hair salon. I called and made an appointment. I left work early to make the appointment. When I went in, they informed me that I no longer had an appointment. They said they called. And they did, but it probably would have been helpful to have left a message for me as well. I love my haircut from Hana. She is kind, gives good insight/ advice/ feedback about what will work with your hair type and face, and she took a lot of time and effort into cutting my thick, coarse Asian hair. I brought in a picture of one of the hairstyles that has consistently worked well for me. She asked a lot of questions in the beginning about my lifestyle and habits so that she could cut my hair in a way that suit my lifestyle. She didn't thin it out as much as the pictures I showed her because she took in the consideration that I pull my hair into a ponytail often and she didn't want short pieces to be sticking out. Also, she kept my bangs longer than the picture because she said that they typically cut bangs to that length for people to hide more of their face and I didn't need that. read more

I usually go all out for haircuts, but was feeling a bit disillusioned with my previous stylist and came here twice for simple cheap trims while I researched a new salon. My first haircut (with a young man) was exactly what it should have been - cheap, good, and the man who cut my hair was attentive and very sweet. My second - with a woman - was dreadful. I brought about 3 different pictures showing different angles of the same cut (I knew the language thing might be a bit of a problem, so I wanted to be clear). The cut was pretty much an inch or 2 off my existing haircut (a bob). I said, and signaled "One length" and she nodded like I was patronizing her. Then, as she was finishing the cut (it looked fine) she very deliberately and without hesitating enough for me to stop her, cut a straight, horizontal line from my left ear to halfway to the back of my head. Not sure how to explain this, but it was as if she had given me a double bob (like the shape of stairs going down the side of my head)... on only ONE side. I started crying immediately and she regarded me with disgust, even "telling on me" to the owner, who was shocked and sympathetic. He asked if I wanted the cut evened out, which I guessed I did. I told him I expected him to fix my hair for free once it grew out in a few months (I decided to cut my losses and never go back) and left. I think I was in such shock I still paid for the haircut, and a (small) tip, which I instantly regretted! read more
