Would have to say this is one of the best Asian hair salons in Boston! I'm terrible with describing what cut I want, and even with just providing some general details and a photo, they got it just right! Hana was my stylist, and she was awesome; great attention to detail, strikes up conversations, continued to make sure I was satisfied with the cut, and overall a smooth experience. Price was pretty good, even including tip. Highly recommend! read more

OMG!! Love Love my new hair cut!! I've always been a bit afraid of getting bangs, but Toru@Beautiful Cuts helped me overcome my anxiety- and got me the perfect haircut!! He is so talented and intuitive, once I explained that I perform a lot on stage, he helped create the best style for me- this layered, he called it "shaggy" hair cut!! I didn't really know that's what I wanted- but he apparently did!! I'm feeling like I've found my hairstylist - so hard when you are asian, ( I'm Japanese and he also speaks Japanese!), and don't trust non-asian hairstylists. Thank you Thank you Toru for the fantastic new hair style. I'm loving it!! read more

Really satisfied with the work performed by Betty! She cares about your style and opinion, I got my bang haircut and really love it now! Will definitely come back for my new hairstyle. I really recommend this place especially for asian hair types ha, you wont be disappointed. Came back again to change the bang style, made by master Hannah! Again, very satisfied! read more

I've had bad luck with salons in the past, so I haven't had a proper cut in a long, long time. However, as someone who color treats their hair frequently, I was in desperate need of cleaning up my ends. After hours of research for affordable salons near Brighton, I found Beautiful Cuts - and my cut was truly beautiful! I called and was set up for an appointment with Linda the next day. When I arrived, I was taken to the chair right away. I had a picture in mind, but Linda took one quick look and knew exactly what to do. The salon was packed and all the other clients seemed to be regulars there, addressing all the stylists by names and asking questions about specific aspects of their lives. I've never had any kind of relationship with a stylist before, but I immediately felt like this could be my place to settle in. The shampoo, cut, and dry took 45 minutes and cost $45, and I couldn't be happier with the result! I realize now that the reason why I've had such bad salon experiences was because I wasn't their clientele - I haven't been going to Asian salons. If you're Asian, you're not gonna have a good time at a not-Asian salon; our hair textures and face shapes are too unique! Linda knows style and what flatters my face; she's very clearly an expert by showing how deft she is with her hands. I foresee myself becoming a regular here! read more

I got my hair cut with Touru and was thoroughly impressed with his technique and the transformation. I was not looking for much just a simple trim to get my ends healthy again and he did that but so much more. He was very attentive to what I wanted and gave me some ideas on how to spice it up a bit without being pushy or persistent. Will definitely come back and ask for Touru! Super sweet stylist and definitely knows what he is doing. Thank you for a 5 star experience. read more

I went here after not being able to book an appointment to do my hair due to covid and my hair was a mess until yesterday! I completely left it up to Touru to do my hair and he knew exactly what hairstyle that fit my face! He was very nice and made my shy younger sis speak up and tell him what she wanted. He has more than 30 years of experience in Japan and in New York. Definitely book an appointment with him you won't regret it :) read more

Lovely people, beautiful cut! Touru fixed my messed up bangs and really took the time to make sure my hair looked great. Will definitely come back :) read more

As a girl with very thick hair, I've had many hair stylists in Chinatown botch my haircuts because they were overwhelmed and unfamiliar with my hair type. I would often be left with uneven hair which turned in many different directions! I believe this is a common experience for many girls with thick, textured hair. Everything changed when Touru cut my hair. His technique is so immaculate and meticulous. He took SO much weight off my hair and gave me a very suitable haircut which framed my face exquisitely. He has a great sense of style and worked tirelessly to give me my desired haircut. I definitely feel so much more confident about my hair, and it is so much more manageable now for my lifestyle. Touru made me feel very beautiful and I invite you to schedule an appointment with him because you will not regret it. Truly I could not recommend a better hair stylist than Touru! I am so happy with my haircut. :) read more

Very disappointing. I had high hopes, as I went for a cut with Bitty, the owner. She seemed to know what she was doing. I showed her a picture of a girl with shoulder length hair, middle part with soft waves. She said, no problem, and then proceeded to cut my hair to that exact length, not taking into account that the hair was probably longer before it was curled. But if that were the only issue, hair grows out again right? Unfortunately she tried to curl and style it and instead of the soft waves, I ended up looking like a 19th century page boy or worse still, Professor Snape! I thought maybe the cut was good and that it would grow out well, but it really doesn't have great shape or styling around the face especially. For $65 a haircut (before tax and tip) I really do expect more. Unfortunately I'll have to go get this one fixed. read more

Love this place! Came in for the first time from a hair salon in nyc and the hair cut and styling was by far better here! Tourn did an amazing job more than I expected! My hair was so dead and now it feels so much healthier. If you are looking for the perfect Korean style layered hair cut this is the place! Will be making this my go to place in Boston! read more

I've been a somewhat irregular client for years, as I have preferred going to hair salons in Korea whenever I have opportunities to visit. That said, salons there have become much more expensive and the quality isn't always up to par. I've always asked Nakyong (Bitty) to do my hair and never had a bad experience, ever. I've done cuts, perms, coloring with her and she really nails everything. I got a layered cut done in my recent visit and the results were beyond my expectations. She is always very helpful during the pre-consultation process, she is super fun to talk to, and prices are (and always have been) super reasonable. There are a lot of Korean hair salon options in Allston but I really think she's the best in town. Highly, highly recommended! I'll definitely visit them more regularly. read more

If there are more stars, I would do that. My friends and I have been to many Japanese salon around Boston and have had good ones but not what we were looking for. Stumble upon this salon, through yelp, my friend and I again, decided to give this place a try (since the ratings are so high). Made a Saturday appointment a week ahead of time. Was going to do Bitty and Fumiko for each of us but they were so busy only Bitty had time for 2. Got to the salon that day and I was first. Was a little nervous. Showed Bitty the picture I liked and she gave me a few suggestions but also listened to what I wanted. She did my hair so perfectly, just what I wanted. My friend had long hair but wanted to go short this time. She also showed Bitty the picture and she did a really good job on her hair. Speaking of fate, I saw Fumiko and thought she looked familiar. After I got my haircut, I went up to her and asked if she used to work in Mie on Newbury Street. She was my previous stylist there before she left for Japan about 4 years ago and when I stopped going because she wasn't there anymore. I am so so happy to have found this place. It's not only reasonable priced but also closer and better. read more

I've been cutting my hair at this place for a couple of years and been enjoying the results. I recently had my haircut there on a weekend and Linda with my stylist. I asked her to cut my hair into layers like the previous stylists did. However it seems that she did not fully understand what it meant by layers but instead she gave me a very even round haircut and combed my hair so hard that the action hurted my ears... i'm not entirely convinced that she understood what it meant to cut shoulderlength later and will probably try other people next time there. This review remains to be updated. read more

I am very satisfied with Judy's service. My hair was damaged and super dry, because I permed and dyed my hair before. After shampooing, Judy pomaded my hair thoroughly. She always checked with me about what hair style I wanted during this 50 minutes, and trimmed my hair very carefully. Though in the end the price was 10+ higher than what I saw on the website, it was still an acceptable and reasonable price. My hair is now very smooth and silky. read more

Love love love this place! I went for the first time today to get my hair cut, because of all the great reviews Beautiful Cuts had on yelp. They gave me two books of hair styles to look at and then made some modifications to the cut I had picked based on the shape of my face. John (which I'm sure isn't his real name) cut my hair and did a great job maintaining the length that I desired. I don't think that my hair has ever looked this good! Plus, after an awesome shampoo that included a divine scalp massage, the haircut, and blowdry/styling everything only came out to 35 dollars. Shazamm! read more

Okay, after 3 trips here I'm now taking away a star. I still love the friendliness of the staff, convenience, and price. Annie remembers me every time, even though I only stop in every 4-6 months. My past two cuts were not as great as the first, but the last time I dropped by, Annie decided to shake things up a little bit by leaving a little extra length in the back. I told her I'd like it shorter, so she took a little off, but still left it longer than my usual style. I didn't really like it, but I figured that she's had good intuition before, so maybe after a day or two I'd see that it was an improvement over my old cut. Well, a month passed, and one day I looked in the mirror and realized I'd been unknowingly rocking an asian rockstar mini-mullet. Annie, why? Why, why, why? No, no, no! I still like this place, and one mullet isn't going to keep me from coming back.... but not until I've tried out a few other places first. read more

Masa is simply put, one of the best hair stylists I've ever worked with. He's extraordinary at the airwave and digital perm procedure, has the magic touch with both curly and straight hair to snip cuts the falls perfectly into place, and is so kind-- he makes even shampooing, conditioning, and the mousse treatment feel amazing. I've never been so relaxed, or had such an amazing hair experience, and I've been coming here for cuts, airwaves, and hair styling for months. Highly recommend Masa for ALL types of straight and wavy hair-- there's no one better in Allston/ Brighton/ Cambridge/ Somerville...if not Boston! Thank you Masa for an amazing hair experience, and making your clients feel stunning and beautiful :) read more

Alright, I am giving it two stars cuz the haircut was good. This chick there cut my hair. It was cheap and the cut was decent (although my usual stylist said that she sort of damaged my hair -- the way she cut it). Anyway -- they also said they would give me a discount on highlights, partial. It was my birthday, I needed a pick me up. Anyway, she highlighted MY ENTIRE HEAD!!! WTF! The highlights were the color of what I call "cheap honey/caramel" attempting to immitate that nice caramel hue of chicer salons, but it comes out very old metal rust-looking, not too terrible, but def not good! And um, SHE COVERED MY ENTIRE HEAD WITH THE HIGHLIGHTS! EVEN (drumroll) underneath the hair, yes, it was LAYERED, I could not escape these things! Alright, I am taking away a star cuz I am now remembering the traumatic experience when I told her "I hate this, this is ugly" and she tried to convince me it was pretty. Thaaaaaaaaaat's right, I looked like a cheap ho'. Awesome ... my birthday... yea.... Hello, law school, my name is "high school hairdo". Awesome. read more

Very satisfied and happy with my haircut!! Layers are neat and my hair is very easy to control! Found this place online while I was searching for japanese hair salons.. And don't be surprised cause they have 2 websites. The first one that comes up in google search is their old website. Scroll down and you'll find their current one. I called right away and ask for appointment with Bitty because in the website it looks like the 2 pros are either Bitty (Nakyong) or Fumiko. I was not sure of the place at first and there wasn't much pictures posted so I'm not sure if their cuts are good. When I arrived there, I was greeted very nicely with Bitty. Then we started discussing about how short I want to cut my hair. I told her I have frizzy big hair. It's hard to control especially with a bad hair cut. She totally understand that frizzy hair should not have too much layers and she knew exactly how to cut my hair. I would recommend this to all my friends and I would definitely come again!! read more

I cut my hair with Touru and did a conditioning treatment. Touru was very friendly and made my hair look amazing! He also used high quality products from Japan for the treatment. I am happy with the care that he gave to my hair! read more

I hate to be a negative Nelly here, but I've been to this place twice and still haven't been pleased with my cut. Each time, they've really botched my bangs. I got my bangs cut there 3 weeks ago, they still won't lay flat - even with a hair iron! Keep in mind, I have had bangs for months, and they've always laid flat. Again, I hate to bring their rating down - it's a really nice group of people who work here! But, yeah, my bangs are awful. read more

Had been looking forward to getting a fresh cut but at the salon I was faced with one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. [context: it was my first time at the salon so I agreed to getting a cut with any hairdresser. NOTE: HAIRDRESSER, someone who knows how to cut hair and you expect to find at a hair salon. This detail is important to keep in mind when reading my review] So anyhow, I get to the salon and wait for my appointment. After a while, a woman comes up to me and takes me directly to wash my hair (thought this was a bit odd because normally you talk about what you want to do with your hair before starting the process but did not think more of it at the time). The woman begins to wash my hair and the setup of the washing station is very odd. You see, there is no room to stand behind the sink so she needs to bend over me from the side to wash my hair. I close my eyes and try I relax during wash which, for the record, was sloppily done and was more like "petting my head with hair products" than actually massaging the scalp and washing it. Then I feel her breast stroking against my cheek and in chock, I opened my eyes only to discover that my face is INCHES from her armpit, not very pleasant. But all this are just details that I could have let slip if it was not for what came next. Finally, I get to sit down in a chair and say what I would like to do with my hair. Cut shoulder length, straight off. Nothing too complicated. My "hairdresser" does not know what I mean by this and brings up a magazine with various cuts and asks me to "point on what you want, this is my third time cutting someone's hair so I need to see what you mean" WHAT? At this point I, and my cumulated uncomfort, had had enough. Cutting someone's hair twice does not make you a hairdresser, especially if you don't know how to cut a basic trim. I kindly tell the lady that I feel uncomfortable getting my hair cut by her and ask to pay for just the wash. She does not seem to understand me and tries to blow dry my hair. Getting frustrated, I ask to be let out of the cape (what do you call the fabric they cover you in?). Now, someone who I believe to be a manager comes and i am finally freed from the chair. I ask to pay for just the wash but they did not take Apple Pay even though it said on the website they would. Luckily, they understood that they were in the wrong and I got to leave anyways. If I could, I would rate my experience 0 stars but since that is not possible, I have to give a one. If I go to a hair salon to pay for a hair cut, I expect to receive service from someone who actually knows how to cut hair. Keep in mind that this review is based on my unfortunate experience with one "hairdresser" and I am sure there are some actual hairdressers at this salon, considering that this place had great reviews (did my homework before booking). However, I think that my experience speaks for an overall unprofessional organisation since they assigned a customer a completely inexperienced person to cut their hair. read more

I was inspired to finally set up a Yelp account based on my final experience with Beautiful Cuts today. It's my final visit only because I'm moving out of state soon and I had to get in one last quality haircut before leaving town. The folks who run the shop are extremely friendly and always have been since I started going there back in 1999. The first time I went was based on close proximity and low price. My expectations were low considering the price of the haircut, but I got a great (and fast) cut in exactly the style I asked for. I think it's funny that someone else here mentioned that they can barely understand a word they say. It's totally true, but it's also part of the adventure. The language barrier is there, but I always manage to cut through it and get some good laughs in with the staff. My last appointment with them was 5 minutes before closing and though I felt guilty for showing up so late and unannounced, they greeted me warmly and gave me a friendly sendoff. This is the kind of hidden gem I'm very sad to be leaving behind in Allston. read more

Got my haircut and treatment by Masa. It was my first time in this salon, and I'm very satisfied with the style! Had an inch cut for my back hair and just a trim for my bangs. Masa is very attentive, skillful, and kind - I would strongly recommend him for haircut. And the treatment works too - my hair is even more softer than before. I will be going back soon to try color and and straight perm! Thank you Masa :) read more

Have been going to Fumiko@Beautiful Cuts for over 3 years now. I always leave the salon with a polished look. Fumiko is a very talented stylist, she is also very good with listening to the style you are trying to achieve. I have had haircut, color, double process & color correction all done by Fumi. My hair always grows out nicely after her cut. I was a loyal client with Hot Gossip on Newbury for over 10 years, until they closed down; after that I had been trying out & hopping to different salons. I had also tried Mie for a couple times ... I am so glad to find Fumiko@Beautiful Cuts, she knows hair and always give me good advise. Her haircut appointment also includes a quick head & shoulder massage with mint oil. I also appreciate how Fumiko spends quality time with each of her clients, she's always fully booked but she does not overbook her clients. It's quite relaxing to have my hair done in this salon. Parking is easy, there's always street parkings (2 hour free) on both sides of the street nearby. read more

6.5 years and counting. I get my hair cut here every 1.5-2months and always get a very good or great haircut. For $13 student price you really can not beat this. If you aren't a student you can sign up for the 10th haircut is free system they have in place. Judi is friendly, easy to talk to and cares about her customers. I have thick and curly hair and it is a chore to cut it. My mother's a hairstylist and having been spoiled with access to free haircuts as a kid I know how much work it is to cut my hair. Also I can say Judi is good at what she does, and I have decently high expectations. I trust no one else in Boston and for the money its a steal. I found this place after 1st moving to Boston and will continue going here as long as I can. Living in somerville (union sq) I probably have closer places to get my hair cut, but no way am I not stopping by every couple of months to say hi to Judi. You can call for an appointment or walk in, if there is even a wait it is usually short (under 20min). Go try it out for yourself and remember hairstylists live off our tips so if you are able, please tip generously! read more

The staff is very friendly and welcoming here, but I appreciate that I don't have to fake conversation once I am there.I have never been one to be very chatty in the chair, and Annie just gets right down to business. I always have Annie when I go to BC- despite a language barrier she always knows just what I want. She is really quite talented. However- I have never gotten more than a few inches off my already long hair- nothing drastic. I also LOVE her head massages (that sounds very dirty, but I assure you, it is quite the opposite! my scalp is squeaky clean when I leave). It is like another spa service in itself! Lastly you can't go wrong with the prices! I think the most I have paid is $35 which includes a blow dry. read more

Had great color job by Korean stylist Nakyung (spelling?). Would return a million times over.

I scheduled an appointment with Touru for a haircut and underdye and left the salon feeling very happy with my hair. I only told him my desired length and that I wanted to thin my hair. Touru suggested that I would look good with a layered cut. He did his own thing and my hair now looks amazing! The layers were a great idea! I also scheduled my appointment in the evening and even though the dye made him stay past the store hours, he still continued his job with a kind attitude. Would come back! read more

Great service, and took their time with my haircut. Super happy with Touro. Professional, skilled, and very kind!

my previous stylist have done the best work on my hair, which is why i avoided looking for a new salon since i have horror stories of other stylists giving me mushroom cuts and flat hair. i pushed off looking for a new hair salon when i moved from amherst to allston for months. but i am so happy to have found beautiful cuts. bitty absolutely nailed it with how she handled my hair, even better than my old stylist. i showed her a picture of the layered cut i wanted, and she swiftly went over what she would do to my hair. her cut matched the picture perfectly. $40 plus tip for a haircut, shampoo, and blowdry is absolutely worth it. bonus that they also accept venmo in case you forgot to bring a cash tip! read more

I love Judy! She's Hongkonger and she speaks great Mandarin. She gave me a haircut for 90 min! She's very patient and no rush. I even started to worry about my car would be towed if I parked there too long, lol:) So if you like to get a haircut from her, have to make you put enough coins in the meter:) And they also have Korean and Japanese stylists. Boss is a Korean lady. I saw the other two Japanese stylist were doing other people's hair very patiently too. It's really a good place for Asian hair. I gave 4 stars because I don't think their price is super good. $45 for a female haircut. It's an up normal price in Boston area. I don't know y they only have a dollar sign on Yelp read more

I finally found a decent hair salon in Boston. If you would like a thorough consultation before getting any service (haircut, perm etc), this is a place to go. I got my hair done by Fumiko and she told me what style would look nice with my face shape and hair thickness. I was 15 minute late because of traffic but she still welcomed me with a smile (I called her beforehand when I'm expected to arrive). She washed my hair first, then gave me an amazing massage as well. After 10-15 minute consultation, she started cutting my hair step by step, asking me if I'm happy with the intermediate steps (which I was). We had such a lovely conversation and the 1 hour and 15 minute session felt so short. I just wanted to get a haircut so desperately because my hair gets tangled and dry very easily during the winter time. Fumiko created a whole new medium-short hairstyle without making it look too dull or too light. I am very happy with the result. I will visit her again in 3 months! read more

Ive been going to Beautiful Cuts for years now, i followed Judy who used to work for another salon. Judy is the best, she takes her time never rushing to make sure the cut is perfect. With a go-to salon back in my hometown, I preferred to wait to get my haircuts on visits home. But alas, there were no openings the for my Columbus Day vacation, and I returned without a haircut that it was getting so painfully obvious I needed. So I decided to find a decent, cheap haircut place just for this one time, to hold me over until I could get it cut at home again. After doing some Yelping, I gave Beautiful Cuts a try. No qualms about appointment times, they got me one when I needed it. And when I showed up 15 minutes early, they confirmed it was me, and had me get in the chair no sooner than a minute after I walked in the door. I explained what I wanted to Linda, and in all the places that ever cut my hair on the vague description I gave them, Linda was the first with the good sense to use a razor-laden comb to cut it, which gave me exactly the look I was going for. Other customers walked in, sat down in chairs, and chatted with the stylists like catching up with a good friend. So what was once going to turn into a one-time thing is now probably going to become a habit. Highly recommended, especially for those on a college budget, who have come to find that those 'super' places ain't so super. read more

This was my first time getting my hair cut here, and I am definitely planning on going back the next time I need a trim. Touru was very friendly and welcoming, and immediately understood the style I was going for. After showing him two or three different inspiration photos, he immediately zeroed in on one and got down to work. The end result was exactly what I was looking for, and he had perfectly adjusted it to best suit my face shape. As someone who doesn't have the typical "Asian straight" hair, I was very impressed with how Touru worked with it.
