I've been to this place a lot over the years and is constantly good. Use whole eggs unlike a lot of places now and knows how to cook them unlike a lot of places now. Best omelets in town. A little pricey on some but they've kept quality up. I understand their costs have gone up considerably. The servers are all nice and you always refilling drinks before you even ask. My boyfriend loves this place and I like it as well. There are definite things you need to know before eating here. You want to go with breakfast food. The burgers here are not good, I learned the hard way. He gets the gravy biscuits a lot. I wanted to try some place I haven't been, and I haven't been here before. I walked in and wasn't sure if it was seat yourself or you had to wait for a server. It has a very diner feel, which I loved. The menu wasn't super vegetarian friendly other than the bland grilled cheese. I felt the table wasn't really clean (but that goes with the diner vibe). It's like they go the extra mile! That is what my husband said when he was buttering his biscuit that had been cut in half and had been lightly grilled. This place is excellent! Coming in this morning we were greeted quickly. Two construction crews entered and these boys politely put together their tables, stacking their chairs as my husband and I watched. Love the south! We ordered our food and waited in anticipation and it was brought out about 10 minutes later. I had the seafood omelette and it was a jaw dropper! I do not know how they perfectly cooked scallops and had that inside of an omelette without overcooking but it was insane! I could not finish it and I am already looking forward to lunch so I can inhale the rest. Danny had the Low country omelette and french toast remarking it was amazing as I barely caught his eye contact between bites. We will definitely be back. Bear E. Patch is a very casual (almost cafeteria style) diner. We came in for breakfast, and although the place was full, with no empty tables, we did not have to wait long for seating or service. Italian Cream Cake with Berries-I would return to Charleston just for this dessert! It was excellent, with a beautiful texture, moist and fresh, homemade taste, with a delicious cream filling that was smooth and had the perfect taste, and amount of filling, in relation to the cake. Chocolate Chip Cookie-Excellent, the cookie was huge, and had the exact amount of chocolate chips to complement the perfectly moist cookie-my only regret was that I bought only one of them before we hit the road to return home. Lobster Omelette with tomatoes and cheese blend, topped with lobster bisque-there was a generous amount of crab claw meat in the omelette, and the omelette was cooked better than any that I've had recently. The cooks managed to cook the omelette with a fluffy, light texture, although there was too much cheese, which can easily be removed. Grits-very good texture and taste. Pancake-average. Sausage Gravy and biscuit-the biscuit had a homemade taste, but my husband did not like the sausage gravy at all, and says that Bojangles is better. The waitress did tell us that the gravy was not homemade. Bacon-crispy, perfectly cooked, with very little fat. Service-friendly and efficient. When I come back to Charleston, I'll be hoping for another serving or two of the Italian Cream Cake with Berries, and the Chocolate Chip Cookie! read more

Don't go here for the service. It's a small diner atmosphere, as you can tell walking in the door from the open kitchen and servers rushing around. Our waitress came to the table to take our order and drop off the food, that was it. Not to refill coffee or tell us we went to the counter and told them our table number to pay our bill. She passed the table multiple times without a word. The order for one of our plates was wrong, and the food was greasy at best. The taste was where our 2 stars is coming from. Don't recommend if you want easy parking or a healthier meal. read more

Went to this diner the other day, and it was a pleasant experience! It wasn't the best I've ever eaten, but it was good. I can imagine myself going back there for a predictable menu item and getting consistent, delicious results each time. This is a must breakfast spot for when I'm visiting family in Charleston! I do recommend getting there early (especially on the weekend) to beat the crowd. When I've had to wait, it was only for 20 mins max. When I saw the place I was skeptical but I tried the food and was blown away. Everything is SOO good, especially the French toast and pancakes. I've been fighting a cold/sinus infection for what seems like the last four months and haven't been able to taste more than a smidge if anything of what I've eaten, so I've been trying to try things that pack a wallop of flavor. The Harbor Sauté was the first thing in recent memory that I could taste fully. The only thing that comes to mind to describe this sensation is as if I had woken up from a coma and after only being fed through I feeding tube this was my first real meal--mana from heaven. It was truly a wonderful moment and I wish I could experience over and over again. Much of the menu is traditional diner food (with a Charleston twist) with plump biscuits and savory grits. The places is a staple of West Ashley so it can get packed but the flow of customers in and out is pretty consistent so the wait for a seat isn't terribly long. Also any eatery that sells tie-dyed shirts will always be a winner in my book. Big plus to the staff that was all-around wonderful and friendly. read more

Very good food, but not the best breakfast I've ever had. Came on a week day at 10:30, seated within 5 minutes, waited upon almost immediately. Since we had never been here before we asked what was good on the menu, and they also explained that you do not have just one waitress/waiter and that you go up to the register to pay. Service is a 5 stars here, very quick, polite, and offer suggestions too. I got Sandra's special which was very good. Good amount of food for the price. I do enjoy that they have sourdough toast here. French toast is ok, grits are good. I would come back here again for a well priced meal. read more

This is a nice diner on 61 in West Ashley close to I526 and Citadel Mall. My wife and I have been here two or three times in the last year. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of room. This is a non smoking restaurant which appeals to our family. We have not gotten bad service or food when we have visited here. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food comes out fairly quickly and looks good. I spoke to the waitress about the possibilities of them getting WiFi for their customers and she said she will talk to the owner about it. read more

When you enter, you walk into a ma and pop diner-like atmosphere with sage and garden hose green as the predominant colors. There are booths and tables for seating, and you sit wherever you like. The staff is friendly, and dressed very casual, and you pay your ticket at the front counter when you're finished with your meal. I had the Seaside Omelette, with cheddar instead of American, add mushrooms. I chose grits and a biscuit as my sides. What I didn't like about my biscuit was that they put the open faces on the grill for a few seconds. I prefer soft biscuits. On to the main event: The egg that cocoons the contents is cooked impossibly thin, and somehow they keep it from splitting. The seasonings they use for the contents are a perfect hint of spicy(the amount of heat in a medium heat salsa), with almost a Cajun taste. The scallops, shrimp and crab are fresh and tender and not fishy smelling or rubbery. Trust me, don't ruin this dish by not changing the American cheese to another cheese of choice. I stopped by here for lunch with a colleague. Staff was calm, courteous and friendly. The menu is vast and the staff all seem to like everything. So if you are looking for a recommendation, you might no get one. But this is not necessarily a negative thing. What you get is truly your preference because everything I have tried has been excellent. This time I got their cabo wrap with fried green tomatoes. All excellent. Do pay attention to their menu though because there are wraps that require a knife and fork, and what they call pick up and eat wraps. I stoped going a while back when I saw the cook sneeze in his hand a continue at the grill. As a physician and former goverment health inspector I was concerned and notified the manager. The manager asked the cook if he had, he denied it so "I was wrong"! We stoped going. They have since had new employees so we tried again as it is one of the few restaurants "open at 7 AM"...when they are. When they are not "your clock is wrong, not ours". I arrived early today and waited until 1they finally opened LATE, asked to be the second served for that reason and was told to leave. I was wearing a veterans hat so that may have contributed to the young person's displeasure with my requests. If you are a veteran I suggest TOAST! is more friendly. read more

Huge menu! Breakfast all day, which made choosing what to eat so hard. I finally narrowed it down to the French dip which was delicious. I kind of wish the bun had been toasted but it was still great. My side was onion rings. They were the best I've had in a while. My bf had some Charlie chicken sandwich which he practically swallowed whole. He loved it. He ended up getting a piece of chocolate explosion cake. It was rich and wonderful.
